I've asked the painter to estimate on painting the big dresser the same colour as the walls. You can make chalk paint by adding Polyfilla. He would have to wax it as well. The cost will help me decide whether to keep it, or put it on Facebook Marketplace. The size makes it difficult to sell, especially as you have to get it downstairs! 😳 It does split in half, but still weighs a ton.

Then I took a couple of things out of it to donate. My tastes have changed since the 70s! So, I trundled round to the charity shop with my trolley, including a couple of John's tee shirts in a colour I hate. I have never seen him wear them. Bought lovely seedy bread, and focaccia, from the bakery, and falafel and flat breads from the Mediterranean shop. Plus salad stuff.

Pleased with self for getting rid of stuff and making a bit of progress with my decision making. John is a bit baffled by my provisional colour choice, but he isn't 'up with the trends'. 🤣

I will post a photo from my phone of the dresser.

Love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx

Back today from a weekend away up north. We organised another long distance cycling event, did a short vintage train ride, looked at an incredible model train set-up, and I got some decent walking in.

Also finished reading one book and made a good start on another. Plus I slept 13 hours one night courtesy of the evil time change.

Machka and Margaret ~ Sounds like you both had a wonderful time away!

Heather ~ That is a gorgeous cabinet! It's almost a shame to paint that beautiful wood.

Your friendly lurcker here (again, thank you Debbi for the Dawgs tip). I know I shouldn't chime in Heather and I do believe "just because it's wood doesn't mean it's good) but I would paint a simple cream to match the woodwork. If you go too trendy with a different finish you will get tired of it and it will be even more expensive to fix (said the person who did every fancy wash and grids on all her walls and ceilings). Did I mention how hard it is to fix crackle paint?

    Lisa,

Its a nightmare ain't it? But it kind of becomes the norm after awhile. That stress, the unpredictably of it all, you just rolled with it. He also mentioned along with all he has to get thru, the barge that's been his home for months, will be closed for repairs. So the last couple of days before he leaves, he'll have to get a hotel, hopefully the Navy Lodge. It should be on the Navy dime but might be a after reimbursement.

For my lovely people who are interested in almost any form of craft, from quilting to cooking, anything with yarn or fabric or paints, this is a link to Craftsy, online crafts tutorials and classes, and the first thousand to the link get a year of Craftsy for $1.49. You do need to be aware when the year is up, as it will costs you $123 (at least) next year, but in the meantime, you can learn an awful lot for not much:

PS - they don't sponsor me, it's just something I found.

Allie - Sometimes, the world is just telling you to rest. I'm sorry, I know it's a longer journey than you thought it would be. Rest and heal, darlin'. Thinking about you.

I like it as it is.

If you wanted to tone it down a tad, you might go with a brown stain with a bit of grey.

Heather - I think this is a project you and Edie could take on. Your son would probably need to move it onto a tarp for you. But I did this with my china cabinet and was quite pleased with the result. I used a good primer and water based paint. It was only a couple day project.

    Heather.

I concur with Tracy. Even a little whitewash stain would be nice. Something that still shows that beautiful wood grain thru it. She needs to stand out a bit, and not look like a built in cabinet.🤗💖👍🏼
