😀 If I haven't posted in awhile, imagine me on the couch with Annie's head in my lap watching the Clancy Brothers on YouTube and lusting after their beautiful sweaters. She takes up a lot of time.

I've asked the painter to estimate on painting the big dresser the same colour as the walls. You can make chalk paint by adding Polyfilla. He would have to wax it as well. The cost will help me decide whether to keep it, or put it on Facebook Marketplace. The size makes it difficult to sell, especially as you have to get it downstairs! 😳 It does split in half, but still weighs a ton.
Then I took a couple of things out of it to donate. My tastes have changed since the 70s! So, I trundled round to the charity shop with my trolley, including a couple of John's tee shirts in a colour I hate. I have never seen him wear them. Bought lovely seedy bread, and focaccia, from the bakery, and falafel and flat breads from the Mediterranean shop. Plus salad stuff.
Pleased with self for getting rid of stuff and making a bit of progress with my decision making. John is a bit baffled by my provisional colour choice, but he isn't 'up with the trends'. 🤣
I will post a photo from my phone of the dresser.
Love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx

Back today from a weekend away up north. We organised another long distance cycling event, did a short vintage train ride, looked at an incredible model train set-up, and I got some decent walking in.
Also finished reading one book and made a good start on another. Plus I slept 13 hours one night courtesy of the evil time change.

It's a lovely piece of furniture, but huge. I hope he gives me a reasonable quote as I could fill the glass bit with nice glass and ceramics.
What do you all think? I can't leave it that orange pine colour. I bought it in the early 70s and it looked great in my three previous houses.

Back from my trip to Wisconsin and Chicago area. A nice mix of visiting with family and getting outside and local things to see! I also got into hotel pool 5 out the six days. On Facebook I was able to post my 30 seconds of Zen watching and listening to the waves of Lake Michigan. I wasn't able to copy it and post it here. I don't want to download it because my laptop is not happy when I download. I will post other pictures in the coming days. DH nephew has twin three year old boys. It was so fun to get to see them!

Machka and Margaret ~ Sounds like you both had a wonderful time away!
Heather ~ That is a gorgeous cabinet! It's almost a shame to paint that beautiful wood.

Your friendly lurcker here (again, thank you Debbi for the Dawgs tip). I know I shouldn't chime in Heather and I do believe "just because it's wood doesn't mean it's good) but I would paint a simple cream to match the woodwork. If you go too trendy with a different finish you will get tired of it and it will be even more expensive to fix (said the person who did every fancy wash and grids on all her walls and ceilings). Did I mention how hard it is to fix crackle paint?

Thought for today:
I wouldn’t buy anything with Velcro, it’s a total rip off!

Allie - I'm sorry, I know the medical days are just tough…
Heather - Agreed with @pony4us that "just because it's wood doesn't mean it's good." Didn't used to feel that way, but I know my passion for wood grain isn't everyone's cup of tea—and my ability and need to refinish wood isn't either. Also agree that a timeless color is a good option. Trendy colors on wood furniture just makes them hard to sell or even give away. I use my similar oak cabinet for storage in my craft room, and try to keep the pretty colored fabrics in the glass part.
Swooped into the larger city and picked up some stuff for Corey and got my hair cut. Just getting my noon meds in now, and then it's onto the elliptical and see what I can accomplish this afternoon. Burgers for dinner - full-sized one for Corey and a slider for me.
Might get my mushrooms sauteed ahead of time. With a little white wine, they're a wonderful addition to a burger. Throw in 1/2-slice of Swiss cheese and a tablespoon of teriyaki sauce, and I'm in heaven. Last night he made five-spice roasted beef short ribs and we had them over rice with a hoisin-based sauce. Different, and very, very good.
Later, my chickens…
Love, from sunny Arkansas, where the ground is finally starting to warm up and dry out a bit.

Hello my friends;
Betsy, I am so sorry for your loss. I hope that the darkness of your recent loss, sheds light on domestic abuse. The police and others need to realize that if rarely comes out positive if one stays in that situation. My daughter was abused by her boyfriend. She had a black eye at 15 from him. She would have bruises on her neck from him choking her. She said that he took all her clothes off and locked her in the closet foe 8 hours. He had her steal from us. Wouldn't let her go to school. He would come get her and drug her. He had her sell her body for money. The last straw for me with him when he came in on us and went upstairs and literally dragged her down the stairs and started choking her meanwhile my 81 year old mom came after him with a hammer. I am so happy that she finally left him. Many women stay, because they don't want to be alone. I took care of a woman who was burned severely. Her husband threw a malatoff cocktail through her trailer window. They caught him but she refused to testify against him. She died wanting the best for him. Betsy, I am telling you all of this to say, there is nothing you could have done to stop this horrific ending. Now your friend is free from fear and sorrow from the nightmare she lived in. Did she have kids and grandkids? I can only imagine what a traumatic loss it would be for them. I know it was hard knowing your friend was abused and nothing you could say or do could convince her to leave. I am sending tight hugs to you Betsy. I just don't want you to think there could have been something you could have done to stop the tragic ending. It is hard to undo all of the years of brainwashing that monster has done to your friend. Betsy, do something positive for yourself. Take a walk in a beautiful place, visit your favorite people, or go get pampered with a manicure, massage, pedicure or get some flowers to look at in your home.
Michelle, if you decide to do step exercise, try Gin Miller's Step Reebok. It is quite addicting. As for the guys you hired, I think it is nice that you tipped so well. However, the stump removal guy should have been able to fit you in his schedule. They may have been joking around with you saying he is on "C-time" or "CP-time", which are both racially derogatory terms that they should not have said to you. That said, in order for a business to be successful, they need to keep a schedule and be professional in what they say. If you want that stump to be removed, at the rate that guy is going, you need to hire someone else. I have no patience for people who do not take their job seriously. I have untreated ADHD and my dad pushed for punctuality. When I was in high school, if I was not ready my dad would take everyone else to school and leave me. My dad was in the army and he was stern about punctuality and dependability.
Barbara, I was born and raised in southern California, and my grass was so nice, all of the kids would do gymnastics in my grass. Then we had a drought and that grass became scarce and ended up being a rock garden. In Chicago, my friend captures water from the rain gutters to water his plants or wash his car. When I shower I collect water in a bucket to flush my toilet. I do not water my lawn, because the rain takes care of that. It is quite green in Mississippi. Florida is too, and I am so fascinated in the ponds here. I love seeing the lily pads and the egrets.
Terri, I am trying to picture Ireland in my mind. I have read books that took place in Ireland. My friends got married there as well and it was so picturesque. Can you post some beautiful picture in your community?
Machka, I absolutely love the pictures you took. It is so beautiful and scenic. Great photography work. How are you doing with your shoulder?
Barbie, do you have more than one dog?
Well, I better go now. DH wants to go to the pool. Looking at the beautiful pictures of the scenic walks you all take, I will take pictures too and post of mine. It does a world of good for my mental health. I can tell this separation is hard for DH and I know he missed me. He has been so sweet. It is nice to get away. Well, it is raining now, so I guess we will do something else. I love to read in this weather or knit. Take care everyone.
XO,

Lisa,
Its a nightmare ain't it? But it kind of becomes the norm after awhile. That stress, the unpredictably of it all, you just rolled with it. He also mentioned along with all he has to get thru, the barge that's been his home for months, will be closed for repairs. So the last couple of days before he leaves, he'll have to get a hotel, hopefully the Navy Lodge. It should be on the Navy dime but might be a after reimbursement.

MFP Weekly Check-In for April 7, 2025
Debbie in Napa Valley CA - up 2 lbs this week. Not what I was hoping to see but not totally unexpected after sitting all day yesterday, eating very late dinner when we finally got home. Will have to work harder this week.
Rita in Roswell NM - Stayed the same as last week. Cough is gone, weather is better. I am getting back to walking. Not a good week eating. I need to work on my portions and add more activity.
Lanette in SW WA State – weight 165#, has zoomed up 3# in the past week. Likely due to inflammation from therapy & exercises, plus increase in carb consumption – even though average calorie count not up by much. Let’s see how this coming week looks while I head back to lower carb (under 100 gm/day). Step average 8095, down a little from last week. Total activity minutes 220. Doing PT exercises, house walking without weights per physical therapist. Was able to get busy for a couple days last Friday & Saturday doing outside chores – mowing, pruning, weed eating.

For my lovely people who are interested in almost any form of craft, from quilting to cooking, anything with yarn or fabric or paints, this is a link to Craftsy, online crafts tutorials and classes, and the first thousand to the link get a year of Craftsy for $1.49. You do need to be aware when the year is up, as it will costs you $123 (at least) next year, but in the meantime, you can learn an awful lot for not much:
PS - they don't sponsor me, it's just something I found.

went to the gym to do an easy jog to get my legs used to running again, it was the 1st time this year, I did better than I thought. I didn’t take a shower there, just came home to get on the bike. I saw the 2nd place person (female) did a 50mi ride, so I was planning on doing a 33 mile ride, well I hit a button I guess and got myself out of it and did just short of 19 miles. By the time I was done with my excercises and took a shower it was already 2pm. If I decide to go to the gym to run, we have to start walking earlier. I wish I could just slow down and not do all the stuff I do, I guess I just can’t tell myself to slow down.

Walked down to the dollar store to get Denise a birthday card on Sun. Why I did that I have no idea. Her birthday isn’t until the end of May.
Allie– you’ll feel much better once you get something in your stomach. Rest!
Ro– I have Gin Miller’s, I think it’s called, beginners step DVD. I do have others but I may use that one just to get back into the groove. I do like her cueing. They didn’t say “C time”, I was the one who said “C time” meaning the guy’s name. On his time. He’s a really nice guy and his workers are good people. I want to go with another landscaper but I also know in my heart that if something comes up (like if Vince can’t use the tractor), I can ask him and he’ll do it. Vince is someone who is really into punctuality. If we are to meet someone at a certain time, he gets upset if they’re more than 5 minutes late. Like I have a girlfriend in FL who whenever we get together, she’ll always use the “traffic” excuse. He said that next time he’s going to be late on purpose. We shall see if he is. But he is very much into punctuality. He feels it is rude to be very late. Like his time isn't important.
Rained heavily today. For the first time in a long, long, long time I actually broke 100 bowling. Then took a short walk around the block and then a Leslie Sanson DVD since it was a short walk.

I like it as it is.
If you wanted to tone it down a tad, you might go with a brown stain with a bit of grey.

Heather - I think this is a project you and Edie could take on. Your son would probably need to move it onto a tarp for you. But I did this with my china cabinet and was quite pleased with the result. I used a good primer and water based paint. It was only a couple day project.

Heather.
I concur with Tracy. Even a little whitewash stain would be nice. Something that still shows that beautiful wood grain thru it. She needs to stand out a bit, and not look like a built in cabinet.🤗💖👍🏼

Had a wonderful day yesterday. Went to hear the Seattle Symphony. We went directly from church on the light rail and had lunch at Benaroya Hall, followed by the symphony. A young man who has been blind from birth was the featured pianist on a Rachmaninov concerto. He is from Japan and did a marvelous job on a very technical piece. The second half was the orchestra playing a Braham's symphony. A good way to spend a rainy afternoon.
Allie - I'll add my voice to the chorus, rest. You just had a very major surgery.
Everyone take care, Sue in WA

Dh went and saw his mom today, like he does almost every day. Today, he said most of the time he was there she was talking in Japanese to someone who wasn't there. He isn't sure if this is the end or if it is just the dementia getting worse.
He did say he is ready to let the kids move into her house that he knows she will never be able to come home.class tonight was good. There were only 8 of us that was ok. They need to replace some of the fans. We got there and all the windows were closed and the heater was on. Fixed that but when we plugged in the fans- two of the three would not turn on. One fan for the size room we use(like a basketball court) is not enough. I will start bringing my own fan again.
