Pip - when I was at the 911 Center 25 years ago, we were very lucky to have one employee who was fairly fluent in Spanish, at least enough to translate the incoming emergency calls. Otherwise calls had to be routed through an on-call translating service.
These days, the 911 phone software probably does the translation when required.
It's great you can speak and write in both languages.
We could have used you. I'd have given you a $1.00 per hour raise. Back in those days that was quite a bit!

Barbie- Send a big gentle hug to you.
I woke up in the night with a full blowen cold – gosh darn it…. I have to take my mom to the doctor tomorrow and there is no possible back up, so I am laying low today and will wear a mask tomorrow….. I do not want to give her a cold.
It is sunny and nice today so I sat outside in the sun while drinking my morning tea, one of my favorite “pamper me” things I do if I am not feeling 100%.
I am still embroidering today, but defiantly on slow!
I spend a lot of time alone, and enjoy pod casts… some I listen to are news based, history, telling stories, garden, and some food based. One of the food one is called Gastro Pod and they did into history and science of food…. I have found it interesting. They did one about baking soda/ baking powder which was interesting. I have heard a bit about the newish trend saying Seed Oil is super bad for us, and they did a pod cast about it, and it was really interesting. They dig deeper than just a sound bite and I like that.

Heather your Chinatown memories sparked a few for me, used to go with friends for dim sum, but only for the pork buns and egg tarts and green onion pancakes when I could get ‘em, the rest was sea food. My friends were happy to take up the slack ;) Keeping good thoughts for your bro’ and your visit. I agree with Carol about not painting the cabinet.

Carol, yes and no. We have 15 vertical heavily shaded acres, but are unwilling to sacrifice any of the big trees for garden space. I’ll copy Rita and Debbie and transplant the seedlings into containers in the mini greenhouses and around the porch, the only area that gets enough sun. Lettuce, mustard greens and strawberries do well. One year we had Persian cucumbers all the way into October. Artichokes haven’t sprouted, seed may be too old. Sweet peppers truy but never fruit. Not planting tomatoes and I don’t care for them… ;} Going to fill in containers with radishes, watermelon radishes, carrots and beets. Would love to grow melons but this just isn’t the climate.

Water issues persist. I’ve asked Joe to call our neighbor and ask if he’d be offended if we called the water system company in Crescent City or Bandon. Joe is reluctant to ask, but said if we don’t see him by the end of this week I should call the other companies. We are limping along, can only one of us take a shower a day, and if I do a load of laundry, neither of us can. [sigh]

Lisa; My cat Cali brought in snakes, mice, bugs and moles. Then one day she retired and became an indoor cat completely.
Michelle, on you-tube you can pull up all kinds of workouts. I am able to do yoga, TaeBO, and yes my Step Aerobics with Gin Miller. I wanted to do it here, but I can not get into the room that has the step. Maybe next time. Anyway, I use to speak Spanish a lot better than I do now. I need to work on it more. I studied Spanish since I was 2 years old till I was 7years old. I also studied Spanish for 4 years in high school and 2 years in college. My friends are Hispanic and they would teach me as well as their parents. Some of my Hispanic friends didn't learn Spanish, because their parents wanted them to be more Americanized. It is my opinion, that the traditions, language and customs should be taught. Flea is correct, that learning a language with so many rules is difficult. That said, what doesn't make since to me is the fact that they cut down your hours. Is this punishment for going to Florida with your husband? I don't understand. That is so unfair. They could have discussed it with you first. The lady they hired, doesn't know what they did to you. Is this BK in a Hispanic area? Is she getting paid less money? All of this is not her fault, it is management. I see you as an organized person that is reliable and works hard for you company. You may need to look for another place to work. Is the ceramics place hiring? You can stay at BK, but maybe you can supplement your income somewhere else. I totally understand your frustration. Sorry this is happening to you Michelle.
Margaret, are those music sculptures in Chicago? I always thought Los Angeles and Atlanta had the worst traffic. I am so spoiled, for the traffic in Jackson, MS is nothing. I am going to hate my move to Chicago, dealing with traffic. I am a homebody already. I am trying to look for jobs now that is close to where I live. The flip side is that there is so much to do in Chicago. I love those sculptures. Thanks for sharing.
Flea, you have a big heart. Are you okay? I have been rear ended and my back and neck hurt for a while. I felt sorry for the person who hit me, but they chose not to report to their insurance. They paid out of pocket and rented a car for me. I will say a prayer for that guy, because he is struggling. I hope he will be okay. I hope that something will be done to help the homeless. Keep us posted.
Lanette, How is Rosie? Last time you said she got sick and threw up on her bedding.
I was boring this vacay. I just wanted to read, knit, and rest. Seeing my DH was wonderful too, but he is always working. Which is fine, cause I like to do, my own thing. I just don't want to be left at a restaurant alone wondering where he is. I wish my bestie was with me to play pickle ball, walk, and go to the pool with me. We did go to the pool but there was a lot of kids and the Hot tub was full of people. They have many pools, but it was getting chili outside so we walked home. We didn't stay in our usual condo, but it was nice, and I am able to watch the ducks, but no swans. I think they are feeding them to much human food. I wonder if it is decreasing their life expectancy. Just a thought. Good night everyone.

Well texted my youngest son on Athena's cell phone. Middle son gave this phone to me to use when traveling etc, and I explained to Athena when I was visiting them, that I DO appreciate her letting me borrow it. It will send it to her for her birthday along with a thank you card and present.💖🙃
He has less than 2 hours between international flight and flight ongoing to San Diego, so he didn't want us traveling down. He will mostly spend that time getting luggage, checking back in, and going thru security. We would've taken an airporter, and that would have been 4 hours ride there 5 am starting at base and 9 am getting to Sea-Tac. A lot of traveling for merely minutes of visit time.
But he's on his way! Getting in at 9 something tomorrow. He will probably get stateside about the time that he left Japan, which I always thought was strange. I think it was like 1 hr less when I took a MAC flight from Japan via Anchorage, then Seattle and Portland. I had also gotten my period on that flight journey too. Washing clothes in the ladies bathroom of the USO at Sea-Tac. Fun times.😳🙃🙄

I am back. I just wanted to thank Machka, and Tracey for the advice on my hip pain. I can feel the difference when I sit too long. At work I have to keep moving, and sitting more that 20 minutes does hurt. I will do some band work as well. Thanks so much for the advice. I do believe I have arthritis and having an orthotic on one side and not the other didn't help. So, I will work on that too. Yay, Machka for taking swim class, you will love it.
What kind of surgery did Ginny have. I will keep her in my prayers as well.
Allie, your grands are growing up so fast. They need to slow down. Allie, you and I keep losing our original post. It is so frustrating after typing so long and then poof it is gone. I guess we need to save as we go.
Rebecca, can you fly out to Los Angeles to see you baby boy? You may want to fly into a closer airport than LAX, cause the Navy post in San Diego is far. My cousin and uncle were in the Navy. I use to drive up there.

Heather- I loved your Insta post.
Machka - one of my therapists when my hip was bad told me never to sit with my legs out straight and to always have lumbar support.
It had helped and I really notice now if I do sit with my legs out.Margaret - you look so happy, I’m happy for you that you’re having a great trip.
Lisa - I enjoyed your yard story.
Rita - glad you found out about the bathroom, or lack thereof, before you accepted the job.
I am so glad you’re being included in your son’s rehab. It has to help tremendously for you and him.Lanette - maybe they were just going home and had had a morning beer at all.

I had a lovely afternoon yesterday. The MDMD meeting was a great catch-up, because we hadn't convened since September. They are a bunch of the most positive people I have ever met. We just seem to align, politically, and philosophically. This is unusual for me as I'm, more often than not, an outlier. It's a bit disconcerting to find a bunch of people who think the same as me!
Before that, I had walked around the shopping centre, and bought some acrylic paint for my new, big canvas. I'm going to paint the background the same colour as I intend for the bedroom. Then blob abstract colours. I bought greige, and turquoise, as I already have pink. Our new shop, Søstrene Grene, has v cheap tubes of acrylic. Had a quick look in Flying Tiger for frames for some smaller paintings.
After the meeting, I met John for a pot of tea in M&S and we picked up my tee-shirt by some technical wizardry. A real man did pop his head out to hand it to me.
I took John to have a look at Søstrene Grene, and he approved, though it isn't really his thing, 😅. We wandered down the hill to The Regency in a cold wind, and picked out some light food, because it was early for dinner. We shared tzatziki, I had an octopus tentacle and he had scallops. Both heavenly! We shared an Afogato. A small glass of house wine each. Lots of water.
Walked back up the hill, and along to the venue for French Circle. Good lecture on why Josephine Baker was 'Pantheonisée'. 🤩 No 'Pantheonisation' for me, I'm afraid.
Walked back down to M&S, and bought a Melton Mowbray pork pie, two small steak and kidney suet puddings, and a chunk of Stilton. It probably sounds extremely weird to my US friends! But all super gorgeous traditional British food, two with protected origins.
So, I walked a long way. My little brain has added it up roughly, and it tells me 3-4 miles. Hooray! The most I have done since my operations.

Just popping in to say hello, this seems like an active group anybody craft, sew, crochet, knit? I’m 57 with renewed focus to improve my joint pain, pre diabetes and cholesterol to name a few. I like to garden and make things and have a silly cavalier and two grown kids and a hubbie.

Lordie - didn't watch my whole video back and left in a clunky bit of business that I had selected to cut but then forgot. Took that down, am fixing it now and uploading it again. Unfortunately, can't keep the views I've already gotten, but luckily, only seven people actually watched it so far. Thank you, Terri, for your comment, but had to remove the comment along with the old video - you can't just re-upload over one, you have to remove it completely. My apologies.

More adventures in my yard…
Feeling ouchy and a little beat-up this morning after yesterday's futility of trying to pull fence posts out that have been in the ground for 25 years or more.
Lanette - not pulling T-posts, but old, metal, chainlink fence posts - ones that were put into a large hole and concrete poured around them. The ones in the front yard were put in first, put in better, and the ground is lower than the other side of the house, so more than six inches of soil has washed down and been built up on top of them. The 60+ posts that I pulled up in the back yard were in much softer ground and nearer the surface. As my husband pointed out last night.
Talked it over with Corey last night, who is still ouchy from Sunday, himself. He had to use a shovel and a wheelbarrow to fix a small crevasse that opened in the middle of our gravel driveway due to all the rushing water from the storms. It wasn't terribly wide, but it was about 15 feet long, and nearly a foot deep in places. He had to drag all the gravel and dirt that washed down to the road and dump it back in the hole…
The upshot is that we're going to go look at mini-skidsteers this weekend. I'm talking about the same piece of heavy equipment that we used to shift the old boat into a dumpster - remember that crumbling hulk that I had for yard art for five years?
We've been tossing around the idea of buying one for a long time, but our own age is what is driving us to look at buying one now. Plus other things going on at the international level which I won't discuss due to our prohibition on politics (which I heartily agree with). A lot of this new generation of mini-heavy-equipment comes out of China.
I am genuinely aware that "mini-heavy-equipment" is an oxymoron, but also know that something not even as tall as me weighs upwards of a ton, and as much as two tons for some (1815 kg).
Anyway, Corey has plans for what he wants to do to the yard, and all of them involve back-breaking labor. This would honestly alleviate far more than half that effort. It isn't cutting the tree down that's hard and backbreaking, it's dragging its dismembered corpse either to the brushpile or the woodshed.
And I could have put a chain on the bucket of a skidsteer and pulled these fences down in less than an hour. And not felt like someone beat me up this morning.
I know I'm justifying it to myself and to him, I really do. And it's working. It's a question, though, for sure. They're not cheap - $6,000 for the teeny-tiny ones that look like they're made of plastic, and about $25,000 for good ones that won't break in their first season. It needs to last, so you have to walk that line between buy it once or keep putting money into it when you break it.
I've met my husband. He WILL break it. The big question is just whether it's fixable afterward. Luckily, he's a fixer, too.
Got the laundry going, need to get one load out of the dryer, get the dishwasher unloaded, do at least the minimum to the floor… because playing in the dirt doesn't mean the usual stuff goes away.
Barbie - I think of you and your Annie and Bessie every day. If you never had a fragile day, you would not be human, and you are a shining example of humanity, dear heart. As I noted - if we were perfect (which includes being strong every single minute, after all) we would just be annoying! And you are anything but that. Many hugs coming your way.

😀 Rosa, I hope you keep coming back. I knit while riding my recumbent exercise bike and watching TV. Others do many other crafts. I live with two dogs—an active puppy and a sedentary older dog. I walk at least 10,000 steps every day. I am working in my yard now that it is drier and warmer.

The good news is, I sold my heavy metal sea picture. I only got £20 for it, but it's £20 better than giving it away! Facebook Marketplace, my first time trying it. I first asked £50, then £30, but I was about to put it on Freecycle. She's just collected it. It doesn't really go in any room in this house. In Whitstable, it fitted perfectly into a dining nook, and matched the surroundings, next to the beach.
I think I've written my blurb, which is one of the hardest jobs. I'll share it with you tomorrow, when I've slept on it. 🙄 We have the girls tomorrow, picking them up after 'Art K' at 12 noon. I'm hoping that they might like to go to the local park to play cricket with the new cricket set. After lunch, of course. I have some gluten free gnocchi for Edie and me. Bea always has pesto pasta, farfalle. It's going to be almost hot tomorrow! Sunscreen required.

And on that crafting subject, my squirrels have taken over the joint, and want me to create a triangular fabric storage basket for the new shelf in the living room, which would get quite a bit of my yarn chaos back under control, as it's right next to my side of the couch. Already made a pattern for the bottom and the measurements. 😁🥰🐾 Dang squirrels. 🐿️🐿️🐿️🐿️

Not really presently. We would be flying into San Diego, and with the uncertainty of his career they might just discharge him after reevaluating him at medical. Its hard to know. Being that technically he can't perform his job rate, they might get him on a med that he can manage , educate him on how to manage this, and send him on his way. His job rate is on a ship, and they can't cater to their dietary needs.

Had another doctor appointment yesterday to review last bloodwork from old doctor. She gave us both mostly a green light. DH and I both need to work on our HDL to get it higher, otherwise cholesterol is good. DH has NASH, (non-alcoholic steatohepatitis) of the liver and high blood pressure. My A1C is 5.9, which she said is good, but I told her it had been rising the last few tests. She said don’t worry about it, just watch the carbs. Good review overall. Talked about my stress/depression levels and she was happy I am going to a therapist.
Went to the only ‘good’ Italian restaurant here, Portifino’s, for dinner/lunch. Always nice to go there: fresh made Italian bread and olive oil dip to start, salad and then the mail meal, chicken Milanese for me and chicken piccata for DH. We both ate the ‘whole thing!’ Post office, Walmart then home brought us to 2:30 pm. Long day in town. DH began packing his ‘save for later’ pile when we got back.
Anyone here try Angelino’s coffee? Mail order coffee, in beans, Kureg, and ground styles. Pretty good and not really more than what you pay in the grocery store.

I went to the dr. for a follow-up after getting an injection in my hip. The injection did not help and I had days later with shooting electric like pains going down my leg and knee. The consensus is that the pain is coming from my back. So, I am taking a med pack of prednisone. Hoping that this will clear up whatever it is. Will try really hard not to do movements that seem to injure this old body.

🌞😃 Went to the doctor today for review of annual blood tests and to renew prescriptions. All looked good but she was concerned that I'd lost 7 pounds since last year. I was delighted when I got off the scale when I saw my weight. I assured her that it was because I was eating better and wasn't try to lose weight. It just shows what a few months of no ice cream, cookies, sauces, gravy, chips, or restaurant meals can do 😀🌞 They also gave me my Covid booster so I don't have to make a separate trip to the pharmacy 😀 Annie did well in the car for 70 minutes (her longest wait so far).🐾 I thought she would lick my face off when I got back in the car.

Mo - Sounds like you had a nice vacation but I bet it's good to be back home to your normal routine. Sorry your hip is flaring up. Rosie seems just fine, thank you for asking. Did I mention here that I found a nest of dead baby rabbits behind the greenhouse a few days ago? Something had found the nest and dispatched them all. Rosie likes to spend a lot of time in that area, out of my eyesight. I'm wondering if she found them and played "squeaky toy". 😣 Cats generally make a meal out of little ones. There are probably still 3 or more nests in my back yard and though I don't condone it, I wouldn't punish her. My only concern is that she'd try to gulp them down or roll in them when they got "ripe" enough.
Carol - so sorry your back is acting up as well. Crossing fingers the prednisone does the job. These aches and pains as we get older are just so aggravating!
Barbie - Glad you got your doctor visit in. Yep, no "junk food" makes a huge difference. Good to hear Annie did OK guarding the car for that length of time. 😁
I went to the dentist today - cleaning and 6 month checkup. I've been having intermittent pain around an upper molar, thought I was flossing too hard and maybe I was. But the dentist said it might be time to replace that crown. It's probably 35 years old. I'm not looking forward to it but grateful it's lasted that long. Unless there's an acute event, I'll wait until this PT stuff is done.
