Good morning from sunny Oregon!
Yes, that is the son who is heavy into theatre. He originally wanted to wear a cape to prom. Thankfully, that idea was forgotten, and I never reminded him that he had once wanted to. I don't know where he gets these ideas, honestly, but he does have quite a bit of style, I guess. I think they are such a cute couple, and I am so very proud of both of them. They are very serious students and have specific long-term goals already for their professional futures. The thing I like best about her, however, is that she looks me in the eye when she speaks to me and always greets me when she comes over and when she leaves. His first girlfriend would never look at me, and it was difficult to get any words out of her at all.
We are really blessed with our children. My daughter's wife has become one of us, completely. They took my son out to get his hair cut before prom, and paid for it. It's hard to imagine our lives with them now. I'm already feeling a little like that with my youngest son's girlfriend.
Ginny and Allie — I hope your recovers are going well. I know it can seem slow. I'm glad you were able to get resupplied, Ginny.

I've been doing some spring cleaning. After a long cold, rainy winter, these nice spring days are inspiring.

John's famous fish pie. :-) We ate half, with broccoli, so enough left for tomorrow. It was gorgeous 😍. A lot of work and washing up for John, but it's worth it, especially for two days.
Tracey - I am thinking of you. Sending love.
And everyone else who is struggling, whether physically or mentally. Xxxxxxxx

Hello, my Peeps and Chicks,
Machka posted a list of three things that make you happy. 1. I got some rest on vacation. 2. I got to spend time with DH. 3. I got to swim again. 4. I got to read and knit.Allie, the antibiotics are making you go too many times. Sometimes, my patient's butts get raw from it. They may need to check your labs. The more you poo, the more your can have metabolic acidosis. Drink Powerade or Gatorade if you can. Ask if it is okay to take Imodium to slow down the diarrhea. As Margaret says, do all you can to stay hydrated and eat.
My friend Baby Suko(Linette) has been texting me about her mom's progress. She had a stroke the day after her 95th birthday and party. Now, she qualifies for Hospice. They brought her home, and they are sending the hospice team out to her house. I am so glad because Mrs. Hashimoto wanted to go home, and now she is. When she passes, they will go to Hawaii to bury her next to her dad. Baby Suko lives with her mom and has paid for the house's upkeep and the mortgage. So it is paid for. I want her to be around family till the end.
My other friend Ange just found out that she is allergic to chicken. Isn't that weird to find out at 58 years of age?
The tractor pictures remind me of the time I took DS to the museum in Chicago, and he climbed up to sit in the tall John Deere Tractor. He was in love. He was only two years old then. I would love something like that, too.
Machka, I love the quality of those pictures, and you are making me want to get my passport so I can go to Australia. DH wants to go to New Zealand instead of visiting his friends. We need to do both at different times.
Lanette, Rose is right behind me, resting as I am at my desktop. The high in Jackson is in the 80s, and the lows are in the upper 40s. A cool breeze has been noted. I will soon post the picture of the scarf.
Flea, My kids didn't go to prom. Julia didn't go because she dropped out of school to be with her ex, so we put her in Boarding school to get her High School Diploma. DS's schooling went remote due to COVID-19; he was in the class of 2020. He was so bummed, but he did have a graduation. The school canceled party plans due to COVID-19, and the graduation took place in August, so some kids were already in their college dorms. Now, he wishes that he went to prom in his junior year. I think your son looks quite dapper in his suit. His date looks beautiful as well.
Michelle, isn't it customary to give two weeks' notice? I know my job requires three weeks' notice. That way, you can leave on good terms. I hate that it has come to this. I thought you would get another job to supplement the one at BK. I was going to discuss the benefits of a union to prevent what you experienced, but that is on the political side of conversations. I want you to be happy.
Lisa, does this mean you purchased the "Crack House"? Since you are dismantling it?
Tracey, you would love swimming lessons. Go for it! It is so easy on your joints.
I woke up at 2:50 a.m. and read while Rose slept beside me. So, I am going to take a nap now. Chow for now.
XO,
Mo in Mississippi

My heart aches for my youngest son. It was physically hard on my son, the trip from Japan to the states. He landed in San Diego, wasn't able to get barracks housing, so is at a hotel right now. When he checks in on Monday, hopefully they will have space for him. He said all his symptoms came back, and he is jyrst sleeping and trying to deal. He is hoping to get a GI appointment on as well. I feel so helpless and hate for him to be in pain. To travel down, there's really nothing I can do. So hopefully they can get him on meds that will bring relief. He's like back to square one, before his infliximab infusions. He had made it on Thursday probably way late, then recouped Fri and by Sat evening I was frantic, just needed to know he made it ok. We Mommas never stop the worrying.😥💖

I tried my second attempt at building musubi. It was a delightful success! Fried low sodium spam in teriyaki sauce. Cooked 2 eggs into an omelet sort of deal and used the spam container to "stamp" out 2 shapes of egg. Prepared sticky sushi rice with a dash of sugar and Mirin sauce, then lined spam container with plastic wrap and pressed rice in. Added layer of egg and spam. Wrapped the two pieces with nori seaweed and wrapped in plastic wrap to rest and be happy. I was quite happy with myself!

I think the trick is getting the spam thin enough so its not overpowering. Adding Mirin to both rice and egg helped offset the intensity of the spam. Getting low sodium helps too.

Tracey, honey, I wish I had a quick and easy answer for you. I do not. I know I would be frustrated as well, and would not have been as patient as you have been. Not sure I have that left in me anymore.
Heather - it looks heavenly! I cannot get Corey to cook or eat fish, except some canned tuna for lunch once in a blue moon. No fun to make it just for yourself. I do like the handbag, too. Quite modern lines.
Rita - Give yourself some grace, dear heart. Some parts of this journey are really hard. Thinking about you.
Allie - Hang in there, girl, healing just seems to take a little longer as we swing around the sun.
Ginny - So glad you've got people stopping in.
Flea - What a charming pair! Your son does look absolutely dapper, I agree, and that waistcoat is seriously spiffy. They both look wonderful.
Mo - Yes and yes and no. Just the grounds for now. It's barely a half acre, but there's so much trash it will probably require two or three large rollaway dumpster loads just to get rid of it all. When we can get an excavator in, we'll get the whole house demo'd down to the foundation. A little too much to do, unfortunately, even with a tractor, for just Corey and me.
Excitingly enough, we've already discovered an old stone terrace between the two houses, and we'll deal with getting that cleaned up after we get the brush cleared away.
Corey and I worked hard all morning, went back out after eating lunch, got one fence panel down and decided that was it, we were done for the day. Went back in and showered and relaxed the rest of the afternoon.
We got a LOT done today, more than we planned, in all honesty, but it's terribly satisfying.
We'll get there.
It's what we do.
Have a grand week all - who knows what adventures are ahead? 🎇
Love,
Lisa in AR8 -
Lanette - brother and SIL are interested in moving from Georgia to the same community I am moving to!
Kylia - your schedule tires me out!
Rita - Stepping back from others is difficult-especially family-but it is necessary at times.
Terri - thanks for the visual! I am having fun doing my hit and miss research. I have a fairly good line on my father's relatives now and am working on my maternal side. Husband's side will be dificult, especially paternal since it was Polish-Ukraine area pre WWII.
Major accomplishment was shower-which was wonderful. Treated wound carefully. Sutures where drain was look good-no seeping. Don't know how long it will take to get the blue stuff off my skin they used for sanitizing (I was always used to the orange betadine). However-don't want to seriously scrub while steristrips are in place. I did get kitchen cleaned up from meal prep yesterday.
One of my brothers coming over tot take trash out for me. I am diligently ignoring my work computer and cell phone-I still have them both turned off!
Take care all,
Ginny in Ohio

Heather—glad you go a message from your ex. When you share years and children togther there is always a bond.
Marchka—Great news about your shoulder.
Lisa—scary dream. I hate when I have a dream and when I wake up I have to take time to realize it was just a dream. Happy for you and Corey and your new machine.
Ginny and Lisa—One day at a time and it takes time.
Flea—your son looks very handsome and a nice looking date. Our 3rd granddaughter had prom last night and looked so grown up. I got to thinking the money these girls spent on each dress would of paid for my first wedding.
Rita—prayers. Tough love is hard when it's our children. We have 2 sons that I have to not get caught up in their drama. It is not like when they were little and I could sit them down and say this is not the way we are doing this.
Got things lined up to start the new job in the morning.
Blessings, Vicki GRAND ISLAND, NE💜

Rita – one of the hardest things a parent has to do is not help when you know it isn’t in the child’s best interest. They have to learn some things the hard way. It kills us. My heart to you
Tracey– it isn’t the law that you give notice. It’s really more of a thoughtfulness. I have seen so many employees just up and walk out or else just not come to work. When you do give notice, it does say something about you, tho.
Flea – yup, that’s all you can say about an employee. Great looking kids
Heather – are those mashed potatoes on top of fish?
Mo – my father found out when he was in his 60’s that he was allergic to turkey. Made Thanksgiving fun. I had to make a turkey for Vince and a chicken for my father. As far as two week’s notice: remember that this is fast food industry. For most corporate jobs at least two week’s notice is the thing to do. But that doesn’t happen in fast food. People come and go, I think a union would be a waste of time. Like I said, I’ve seen people just up and quit, no notice, they just walkout.
Jess is SO happy that Vince is building the computers and he and Colby are discussing components, etc. and other stuff. Please don’t ask me to explain it, I know some of the things are about the network but the other stuff went over me.
Made a chocolate cake for us to have for Easter. I’ll just put it in the freezer.

Vicki - My very best wishes for starting your new job today. 😍
I had a better night, over 6 hours sleep, and when I woke up early, I managed to do 20 minutes of back and hip strengthening exercises. Always glad to get that done. I still need to do a bit more upper body work.
I'm nervous about the process of publishing my new book. But I will do some of the initial form filling today. Plus making sure I've got the blurb and biog ready to go. Also the cover photo. I always sweat a bit over it. 🤯
Yes, Michele, a fish pie normally has a mashed potato top. This recipe has the crispy bacon as well, which is a great addition. Inside is a combo of white fish, salmon, and smoked fish, along with prawns and hardboiled eggs. In a white sauce. And some scallions. A labour of love. 😀

Sometimes I wonder if they would work for me … being kind to my arthritis. Do they have much tread or other support?
1 -
Regarding driving … I'm not that enamoured with it now. If my husband were no longer here, I think I'd look for a smaller place within walking distance (or maybe a short bus ride) from work.
Interesting article.
I'm already dealing with those sorts of issues in my husband.
One of the things I've done is to record all our bills and how often/when they need to be paid each year. So some are once a year … others might be quarterly … others are monthly. But I know what's coming.
Also most of our bills are paid automatically. And I am currently in the process of going through all our accounts and a) making sure I can access the accounts, b) updating the details where necessary, c) making sure that both my and my husband's contact details are there, and d) determining if we really need it or not.
Just an aside … I found out today that cheques will no longer be valid currency in 2028/2029 in Australia. Cheques written after June 30, 2028 will no longer be valid, and they will no longer be accepted for deposit from September 30, 2029. New Zealand did this between 2021 and 2024, so Australia is following in their steps. Some European countries have gone this route years ago.
Because most of our bills are paid automatically, we don't get bills in the mail … with just a few exceptions. So we don't have bills piling up that we forget to pay and we don't pay bills twice. The article mentioned those specific warning signs which would not be warning signs for us. There are others, however.

Machka - I am thinking of signing up for swim lessons again. Have fun!
I'm actually surprisingly nervous about the swimming lessons! I wasn't particularly nervous about fencing or pottery, but I am about swimming. I can flounder around in the water and propel myself from one end of a 50 metre pool to the other. I'm not nervous when I'm in the shallow end which is where we'll likely be much of the time. However, most Australians can swim and learned before they could walk. When I mention that I've signed up for swimming lessons, the conversation stops and I get the raised eyebrows. A couple times I've had the "You're doing WHAT?" So now I'm thinking, what if I don't do very well at swimming …
Here it is the law to give a minimum of 2 weeks after 90 days of employment, it goes up based on how long you are employed after that. If an employer chooses not to allow an employee to work the two weeks they must be paid what they would have earned. If an employee doesn’t give the notice the employer has the right to hold their pay until the notice would have passed.
I think it's a similar situation here too.
M — in the US, when someone calls a former employer for a reference, basically the only thing we are allowed to say is the dates that they worked and if they are rehireable, in other words, would we hire them again. When I give a professional reference, I can answer more specific questions about their work ethic or cooperative nature, but the rehireable question is a way to figure out if there are problems with the employee that we can't legally talk about, if that makes sense. We're really not supposed to bad mouth a former employee. Sometimes it is difficult to walk around the land mines because you don't want to say too much but you also want to let the prospective employer know if there could be issues.
I don't know how it is at the retail and food service industry level, but for professional positions, the referee (reference) is given a questionnaire. I'm not sure about the details of the questionnaire, but some of the questions have to do with skills. Does this person know SQL? Could this person produce a Brief or do a Presentation? The referee just goes down the list and answers yes or no. That way, you're not bad-mouthing, you're just listing skills.

😀 Vicki, I'll be thinking about you at your new job today.
🌞 Yesterday was sunny and 60 degrees. Annie and I went for a walk with a friend after lunch, then worked in the yard for more than an hour. She dug holes and sunbathed on the patio. I made good progress in cleaning up the weeds. Outside of the fenced yard there are tulips and daffodils. I had to get rid of bulbs inside the fence because Annie's vigorous place trampled them.

no support like tennis shoes, they mimic walking barefoot.they do have some tread on the bottom.
5 -
Machka9- I'm gave the link for men’s but I bought women’s. No support on bottom, like walking barefoot. These are what I run my marathons and 1/2 marathons in.
they also have them with tiny holes throughout the bottom , meant for like walking across a river or wet areas. You could wear those in the pool so you don’t slip. I use those kind for running too.
