Yes Rita stress overrides diet, exercise, sleep in terms of how it affects your health. That said diet, exercise, and sleep can help lessen the damage.

    Good morning from sunny Oregon!

Yes, that is the son who is heavy into theatre. He originally wanted to wear a cape to prom. Thankfully, that idea was forgotten, and I never reminded him that he had once wanted to. I don't know where he gets these ideas, honestly, but he does have quite a bit of style, I guess. I think they are such a cute couple, and I am so very proud of both of them. They are very serious students and have specific long-term goals already for their professional futures. The thing I like best about her, however, is that she looks me in the eye when she speaks to me and always greets me when she comes over and when she leaves. His first girlfriend would never look at me, and it was difficult to get any words out of her at all.

We are really blessed with our children. My daughter's wife has become one of us, completely. They took my son out to get his hair cut before prom, and paid for it. It's hard to imagine our lives with them now. I'm already feeling a little like that with my youngest son's girlfriend.

Ginny and Allie — I hope your recovers are going well. I know it can seem slow. I'm glad you were able to get resupplied, Ginny.

M — in the US, when someone calls a former employer for a reference, basically the only thing we are allowed to say is the dates that they worked and if they are rehireable, in other words, would we hire them again. When I give a professional reference, I can answer more specific questions about their work ethic or cooperative nature, but the rehireable question is a way to figure out if there are problems with the employee that we can't legally talk about, if that makes sense. We're really not supposed to bad mouth a former employee. Sometimes it is difficult to walk around the land mines because you don't want to say too much but you also want to let the prospective employer know if there could be issues.

I've been doing some spring cleaning. After a long cold, rainy winter, these nice spring days are inspiring.

I think the trick is getting the spam thin enough so its not overpowering. Adding Mirin to both rice and egg helped offset the intensity of the spam. Getting low sodium helps too.

Rita – one of the hardest things a parent has to do is not help when you know it isn’t in the child’s best interest. They have to learn some things the hard way. It kills us. My heart to you

Tracey– it isn’t the law that you give notice. It’s really more of a thoughtfulness. I have seen so many employees just up and walk out or else just not come to work. When you do give notice, it does say something about you, tho.

Flea – yup, that’s all you can say about an employee. Great looking kids

Heather – are those mashed potatoes on top of fish?

Mo – my father found out when he was in his 60’s that he was allergic to turkey. Made Thanksgiving fun. I had to make a turkey for Vince and a chicken for my father. As far as two week’s notice: remember that this is fast food industry. For most corporate jobs at least two week’s notice is the thing to do. But that doesn’t happen in fast food. People come and go, I think a union would be a waste of time. Like I said, I’ve seen people just up and quit, no notice, they just walkout.

Jess is SO happy that Vince is building the computers and he and Colby are discussing components, etc. and other stuff. Please don’t ask me to explain it, I know some of the things are about the network but the other stuff went over me.

Made a chocolate cake for us to have for Easter. I’ll just put it in the freezer.

Sometimes I wonder if they would work for me … being kind to my arthritis. Do they have much tread or other support?

Machka - I am thinking of signing up for swim lessons again. Have fun!

I'm actually surprisingly nervous about the swimming lessons! I wasn't particularly nervous about fencing or pottery, but I am about swimming. I can flounder around in the water and propel myself from one end of a 50 metre pool to the other. I'm not nervous when I'm in the shallow end which is where we'll likely be much of the time. However, most Australians can swim and learned before they could walk. When I mention that I've signed up for swimming lessons, the conversation stops and I get the raised eyebrows. A couple times I've had the "You're doing WHAT?" So now I'm thinking, what if I don't do very well at swimming …

Here it is the law to give a minimum of 2 weeks after 90 days of employment, it goes up based on how long you are employed after that. If an employer chooses not to allow an employee to work the two weeks they must be paid what they would have earned. If an employee doesn’t give the notice the employer has the right to hold their pay until the notice would have passed.

I think it's a similar situation here too.

M — in the US, when someone calls a former employer for a reference, basically the only thing we are allowed to say is the dates that they worked and if they are rehireable, in other words, would we hire them again. I don't know how it is at the retail and food service industry level, but for professional positions, the referee (reference) is given a questionnaire. I'm not sure about the details of the questionnaire, but some of the questions have to do with skills. Does this person know SQL? Could this person produce a Brief or do a Presentation? The referee just goes down the list and answers yes or no. That way, you're not bad-mouthing, you're just listing skills.

posted a list of three things that make you happy. 1. I got some rest on vacation. 2. I got to spend time with DH. 3. I got to swim again. 4. I got to read and knit.

    Wonderful!

😀 Vicki, I'll be thinking about you at your new job today.

🌞 Yesterday was sunny and 60 degrees. Annie and I went for a walk with a friend after lunch, then worked in the yard for more than an hour. She dug holes and sunbathed on the patio. I made good progress in cleaning up the weeds. Outside of the fenced yard there are tulips and daffodils. I had to get rid of bulbs inside the fence because Annie's vigorous place trampled them.
