Morning, my chicks,
Up too early, but hurt too much to stay in bed. It will pass. I always feel better when I'm up and around; there's something about being in bed that lets painful areas get to sound off. There is no position that's going to make my right hand and shoulder completely stop hurting, I'm afraid. Ah well.
Heather - Well done on the book publication, dear heart! More radio interviews in store? Thanks for making it available on Kindle Unlimited—I picked up the book, look forward to reading it.
Tracey, the third one would in this video would make a good T-shirt, and Lanette - the same one explains why most of us seldom see grammar mistakes here. If I catch mine within the first hour, I go ahead and edit them, but if I'm in a hurry, I don't re-read.
The ones I experience most are the doorway effect and tip-of-the-tongue syndrome. All these are oddly reassuring, helping me understand I'm not moving into dementia, just being a normal human.
The thunder boomers have begun here in the middle of the US, a small band of thunderstorms moving through now, and then a big system sweeping in after 7:30 a.m. We're largely prepared for it, everything that needs it is under cover. On a happy note, it will give the new roses a headstart.
Decided not to mow so as to let a few more wildflowers seed out and give the birds more food. I have yet to pick up birdseed from the store. I wonder if the gallon or so I have left in my five-gallon can from last year is any good. Anyone know?
Later,

😀 From Gretchen Rubin's "Outer Order—Inner Calm"
"Outer order isn't simply a matter of having less or having more; it's about wanting what we have."
😀 Lisa, Thanks for the video about brain glitches. I knew a few of them and enjoyed the info about all of them.
😀 Barbara, I think I live out in the middle of nowhere, but compared to you, I am in a busy city. I am 15 minutes from Costco, Walmart, Walgreens, and QFC. Chewy and Amazon are on my computer.
📙 I woke up early this morning and decided that instead of lying in bed reading for awhile, I'd get up and start my day early. If it was too early for the dogs, they have no trouble going back to sleep.

We went to our storage unit yesterday with a car full of stuff. Most all belonged to DH as usual. I put my oils and wax in there, but I doubt that was a good idea for those. Sigh, Oh well, I’ll deal as we go. I did a lot with the oils before I quit. The heat in there is not going to be good for the oils. Also the Soy wax may melt. I’m not too upset about this, I’ll just throw them out if they go bad. Put them there on DH’s insistence as I wasn’t using them right now. He is realizing most of the ‘stuff’ here is his and was looking for something for me to move. (Secret smug smile!).
Went to Alberson’s, Walgreen, and Walmart, then to Applebee’s for fish and chips which we haven’t had in a long time. I was shocked as it was over $50 for 2 fish and chips with iced tea for me and a glass of soda for DH! Not worth that much! If I had known that, I would have rather gone to Texas Roadhouse!
Thought for today:
I’ve been thinking about taking up meditation. It’s better than sitting around doing nothing!

Lanette – one of the things that really irks me is when someone says something like “me and my brother went to the store”. I’ve even heard things like this on the radio when you’d expect the people to use proper grammar. I’ve read things in the newspaper that make me cringe. Guess the newspapers are trying to save money by not having someone who edits what’s printed.
Planted the small bush and then the guy for the deck came. He went on and on about permits(after I asked about them) and how we need 10 (yes, ten) more supports. Talk about something looking stupid. And the steps need to be extended a foot according (to him) to code. Not one of the other guys mentioned this. I won’t even go into his estimate, suffice to say that I almost choked. At first he said that he didn’t think we needed any permits then he was saying that in order to meet code we needed ten more supports. He really didn’t talk about PVC decking, was saying that composit is so much better now it doesn’t get real hot. I believe it’s better than it was 17 years ago when the deck was built, but not that much better. We talked to him about this stuff that goes on top of the joists to prevent rot from water. We brought it up. He said that if they did that, we’d have to wait 2-3 weeks before they can do anything else. HUH? Not one other person mentioned this. I was NOT impressed at all with this guy.
The guy who does the landscaping in the neighborhood is going to be bringing his friend (co-worker?) here about the deck. We shall see what he says then probably make a decision.
Sat here: Went to work today. W came in. I could tell she didn’t have a lot to do and really didn’t know what else to do. One part of me wants to say things that she can do, but I know that it really isn’t my place. A sweet kid.
Went to see Jesus Christ Superstar last night. The audio was good, and the guy who played JC did a good job, but I was a bit disappointed in the scenery. I think there was so much more that could be done. Like when I saw it 30years ago, the actors carried a cross. I admit, it was probably PVC or some other material painted so that it wasn’t real heavy.
Came home and grated the cheese for the mac & cheese tomorrow. Right now making the honey glazed carrots. After this, I’ll probably take Ganon for a walk then come home and get the potatoes ready for the scalloped potatoes
Barbara – whenever you hear the phrase “not cancer” is ALWAYS a reason to rejoice
Lisa – I would think that the birdseed is still good as long as there isn’t mold in the container
Margaret – you go to such interesting places. Thanks for taking us along

Two cups of coffee and quite a bit of writing that I'm not sure I can use later… totally veered off into a tangent, and had to walk away. 🤷🏻♀️ Not the first time, won't be the last.
As soon as Corey's finished his breakfast, we'll head for another of the little towns near us that has a farm and ranch store, pick up some bird seed, among other things. We're taking advantage of a break in the rain for a couple hours, supposed to come right back around and hit us again in mid-afternoon and stay all night.
Later, from

Didn't want to spell it all the way out Pip,but yes..
Sean just called and he is working on a boat today ..and hasn't heard from his friend Rob..so I made a reservation for us tomorrow for Easter Brunch..went and picked up the keflex and took my first dose
Have a couple of cute pictures for you

Good morning ladies!
Ginny … I'm not sure whether to be glad that your pathology report was "as expected" or not. What does this now mean for you?
Pip … sorry to hear that Yogi has a tumor. Hoping you'll have many more years with him.
Lisa and Rebecca … the things our Vets go through make me so mad … it shouldn't be this way.
Barbara … Yay for no cancer! We had more snow earlier this week (4/16) by the way …
Drum roll, please … the bathroom shower is tiled, grouted and siliconed! Moving on to painting today and then the floor can be installed (very small) and the fixtures can come back in … I will provide a picture when it's done.
It has been a busy couple of weeks … along with the reno project, many church activities. A dessert auction for missions. Two pans of my baklava went for $125.00 each. Silly people with big pockets. We had an Easter Egg Hunt last weekend. Over 500 people attended even though it was a foggy and drizzly day. Better than if we'd had it today. Thunderstorms and torrential rain that knocked out my power for a while. Tomorrow I'll be giving a children's sermon during the regular service. I've spent a lot of time on this and I'm going to use a little slight-of-hand during my message. It will either be a success or I'll have to pivot quickly and give an explanation that fits with the message. Keep your fingers crossed for me. I dyed eggs for myself this morning. No one but me cares. Made our traditional nut roll that I'll share with my mom tomorrow when we visit. I don't like ham, but my husband does so that will be on the menu later in the day.
Have a great day!

Hi Gals,
Happy spring,
So a funny story, my housemate is of Mexican descent and grew up in a fully Mexican family- and so for this Easter I asked if there was anything that he would miss from home that we could re-create so mostly the answer was no. I asked about Easter Dinner - they do a potluck with 40-50 family - I told him our white northern European menu was ham, scalloped potatoes, asparagus and Lamb cake. He was like it sounds like it needs some spices, except for lamb cake, what is that? He had tried crab cakes, but what was a lamb cake like??? I was laughing and pulled up pictures of Lamb Cake – he was laughing so hard – that is so wrong! As it is…. But we are doing a BBQ with burgers, corn and potato salad, and thanks to a friend, I am making a Lamb Cake… I’ll send a picture
Thinking of you all,
Kim in N. California

Kim – I will be really interested to see what a lamb cake is. We’re going to have roastbeef, scalloped potatoes, peas with bacon, a tunnel of fudge cake, a key lime pie, macaroni and cheese, rolls. I think that’s about all.
Just finished the potatoes, think I’ll probably go mark where I want the plants and then at least start to plant one. Then Ganon probably should go for another walk.

We felt that way when we went to Subway this week. Hadn't been there in a long time. A simple ham footlong sandwich that used to be $7($5 when they did their deals) and now it is $17!!! and they do not accept any national coupons. We will not be going back. There was hardly any meat on it. We should have split one but dh wanted to order 2 of them.
Did errands this morning. First being picking up plants from a lady who was selling nice size veggie plants for $1 each. Most varieties I had never heard of so it will be fun to see how they turn out. I do need to make sure and label them and save my own seeds.
Walked the dog then went to see MIL. Dh kind of blindsided me, again, saying beings we were out and on that side of town(we were only half way there, not close to her new place) that he needed to stop and see her. She enjoyed the snack he brought her but couldn't understand a lot of what she was saying.
We did stop at 168 which is a great Asian grocery store/part of Ranch 99. Got fresh salmon steaks for dinner tomorrow. They are HUGE and just 6.99 a pound. 2 is plenty for the four of us. 2 was 3 1/2 pounds. Picked up some green beans but may go over and get asparagus which dh prefers. As of now, dh, ds and his girlfriend are all planning on going to church with me tomorrow. First time in about 5 yrs, maybe longer since dh has gone, same for ds and girlfriend. Church and potluck so no rush to cook tomorrow afternoon.
Need to bake some mini cupcakes for the potluck.
Will make deviled eggs and mac and cheese for tomorrow evening.Debbie

Heather - I look forward to reading your book. Congratulations.
Machka - I think everyone deserves a chance.
Enjoy your time off! That’s awesome!Lisa - I’m so sorry you are having to deal with all of those issues with the VA.
Have you heard of storing strawberries in mason jars? I’ve don’t it lots it really works well, wash them, pat them dry throw them in a mason jar and they stay fresh.
I enjoyed the video about the brain.Lanette - My DH ate Activia when his stomach was upset. I have not found a yogurt I can stomach. I just can’t go them.
I hadn’t heard of the suitcase carry. I like that idea.
The ladies that helped me heal the most were adamant that I take things slow. It’s what finally got me healed
I have been using Crest Gum Detoxify and it has really helped with my gum issues.Beth - you’ve been busy. I love ham, my DH doesn’t. I usually invite my eldest daughter to have a ham steak with me.
Kim - your pictures are what I pictured in my head. I can’t wait to see the picture of yours.
Debbie - does your DH think you’ll refuse to go if he just asks you ahead of time? I bet you’re happy that they are all going to church with you.
My little neighbour boy and his mom came for a visit today. He has been bugging her for a few weeks to come. I thought it was the Lego that he wanted but it turns out it was some Minecraft toys of Jonah’s.
I have been sneezing for about an hour, I hope it’s just something in the air and I’m not getting sick.
I bought a pork roast to make tomorrow. I’m going to throw it in the crockpot and call it good. It’s just going to be Rodger and I, the girls and their families are not coming. I’m ok with that.
Chat tomorrow

John went off to cricket after lunch yesterday. He was home by 4.30, so a short visit, but it gives him a decent walk both ways, and he does love it so. He was telling me about the hilarious conversations he overhears. Yesterday a couple of old boys were talking about their wills, in loud voices. A complete comedy show!
Unfortunately, he got an email in the evening from his elder daughter, which upset him. She now lives in the Southwest of France, in a small village. It was a saga of difficulties, from badly leaking roof, damaged interior, very disabled and extremely costly dogs, and work and pension/investment fears because of .….. She works remotely for a London law firm. These daughter troubles tend to upset John, as they do most of us. 😥 It's not easy getting down to see her, though we did go 18 months ago. I keep suggesting he go on his own, now he knows how to do it, but I can't see it happening. (He does speak basic French) She can't come here, because of the dogs.
I got a message, at last, from my son in Nottingham about dates for a visit. I decided on May, when I shall get up there by midafternoon and leave at midday the next. I shall see him for at least one long evening. It's been ages! I booked the trains from London straight away, because you can get huge reductions if you book in advance, for a designated seat, especially on first class tickets. It's only £10 return more than second class, and you get free tea and coffee, snacks, water etc. Plus you can use the first class lounge at St Pancras, which also has the same. I hope to avoid having to buy lunch! 😀 I don't need to book the train from here to London early, as there are no perks to that. I have a Senior Railcard, which gives me a third off any train travel.
I also booked my usual hotel, with breakfast. The cheapest room. I booked it on a cancellable rate, which is a bit higher.
So, here's hoping it all goes smoothly! 🙄
In the afternoon, I had a long chat with L. She has various persistent gastric problems, but seems cheerful. Mid-may, she is going on a cruise round the UK with her sister, including the Channel Islands and Orkney. Her sister is a big drinker, so we were discussing her strategies for dealing with that. The drinks are free on board. Unfortunately, L is easily led! 😱
Every day I'm using some time to publicise my book. Emails, texts, Facebook, and the rest. I might do a very short video for Instagram, not up to Lisa's standard, once I have got the author's copies in my hands next week. I've not done one before, but I have practiced once. Plus adding the running subtitles. Publicity is not my favourite job, but I can do a little bit every day. 😏
I'm cooking a Lamb Tagine for tonight. Always delicious.
Love Heather UK xxxxxxxx

Kim and Others ~ I think we who are Christians see the lamb cake as significant for Easter as Jesus was the Lamb of God! 🐑

Kim - loved the lamb cake photos. The lamb cake was a tradition at my house when I was a kid. Mom would always sprinkle shredded coconut on it.
Had a great time at T's parent's house yesterday afternoon for the Easter meal. T brought the ham - a relative in Illinois sent it to her, it was from a farm-raised hog. I hadn't tasted ham like that since I was a kid on the farm and it was delicious. When my parents were still alive and I'd fly back to Indiana to visit them, I go to the Amish/Mennonite? butcher shop in Nappanee and load up on sausage and pork chops to bring back to Seattle, lol. Pip, I'm not sure if that shop was still in business when you were there.
Tracey - I don't think my relatives in Indiana eat yogurt, beans, or sauerkraut (unless it's cooked) like I do - they also get stomach upset or at least used to, I'll have to ask my sister. They also aren't big fish eaters. My sis did make her own Kombucha and Tempeh though.
Debbie - how nice your whole family is planning to go to church today, hope they can make it. Great deal on that salmon, your meal sounds delicious.
Heather - I ordered your book and it should arrive today. Looking forward to reading it, I sure enjoyed the last one.
Just for giggles, here's a photo of me and my siblings ready for church nearly 70 years ago. I'm the one in the middle. My hair was crazy back then and still is now, lol. My big sis had a fresh perm - a "Toni". Check out my brother's snazzy bow tie.
Weekly check-in reminder for those of you participating. 😉
Happy Easter to those of you celebrating. I'll find some services on TV to watch and am making a batch clean-out-the-freezer chili. Back to regular food now that I had my Easter pig-out yesterday. 😁

Happy Easter to those who celebrate,
Beth - Can't wait to see pics of the new bathroom. While the space may be small, the effort is NOT small at all.
Kim - I grew up with the lamb cakes, as well. My mother actually had a cake mold to bake it in, one that looked a lot like this image. You can still get a mold from Walmart! I've also seen them made in more than just cake, everything from Spam to Jell-o, and both sweet gelatin molds and savory ones. Which can get really odd when they put eyes on them.
Lanette - The clean-out-the-fridge chili was our dinner last night! Corey took the leftover hamburger and leftover pork carnitas from Aldi, added a can of chili beans and some spices and made one of the best chilis he's ever made. I can seldom eat more than a few bites, but that was honestly terrific.
Heather - Sorry John's daughter is going through a lot at the moment, and glad you'll get a chance to go up and see your older son next month. I think an Instagram video for your book will be great. If you are happy with your video, you might think about doing audio recordings of all your books. Your voice will go a long way toward selling them. Much easier to record your voice than your image.
I finished your book last night, by the way, and published the review before I put my reply here. Won't belabor it in both places. I really enjoyed it, though.
And, perhaps because I was reading, rather than watching YouTube last night, I slept in LATE this morning, nearly 7 a.m.! Woke up feeling a lot more rested and together than yesterday.
The only thing we accomplished yesterday was cleaning out the fireplace. Corey's going to see if he can figure out how to take the legs off the gas stove and fit it into the fireplace, so it will take up less space and accomplish the same heat. Looked at fireplace inserts, but they start at $500 and go up to $1800, not something we're going to do.
We are both determined to get the spending back under control. We really have been very relaxed for a while, and it's time to stop. By other people's standards we may be fine, but we know what we want to accomplish, and how to do it, and it doesn't involve overspending. It's time. Past time, really. Going to sit down and see what we need to do to get the little tractor paid off early, and go from there.
Speaking of Corey, he's snagged his first cup of coffee and gone back to bed with that and a laptop to explore the Internet… supposed to be a rainy day, we'll see what we can accomplish inside. All kinds of possibilities!
Love y'all!

Did Firm Hip Thighs and Abs DVD then took Ganon for a walk
Kim – do you need a cakemold for the lamb? I would think so.
M – did the bilby come see you today
Heather – so sorry John’s daughter can’t come
Planted one of the plants yesterday and I was so very tired. It’s hard work using that pickax in the hard red clay. Hope I got it low enough. I don’t think I’ll do one today because I know Jess will tell Colby to help me and I just don’t think that’s right. Went to Chili’s for dinner. Surprise, Surprise that Vince agreed to it. I wasn’t impressed, don’t think I would go back. Just had the salmon and water to drink. However, we went out for ice cream afterwards and I didn’t realize that the one I got had three scoops. Really should have gotten the one with two scoops.
Won’t track today, I know I’ll go over. Unfortunately, I took shrimp out of the freezer. Shouldn’t have. I don’t think you can refreeze it tho. Maybe I’ll give some to Jess to take home. How to serve it, that’s my problem.
Allie – so sorry for Sean. How's Tracey's sourdough business going?
Thought Mass was at 9. Then saw on the internet that it was at 8 so I went there. Only it didn’t start until 9. Then, for some reason I was thinking that the roast needed to be in the oven for 4 hours. only for a 4 lb roast (ours is5lb) it is supposed to take only 2 hours. You know, I remember as a kid we always had our “easter dress” and hat and shoes. In a way I was sad to see so many people in church so casually dressed
LAST NIGHT Jess asked us if it would be an option for her and Colby to stay with us while they look for an apartment/house. It’ll be nice to have them here. In one sense I wish she didn’t have Ganon. Don’t get me wrong, he’s a really really good dog. Only that a dog’s schedule and a cat’s are so totally opposite
Happy Easter to all who celebrate.
Think we might go get the covers off the pool. I know that'll make Jess happy. It's not windy today and the sun is starting to come out. Maybe I'll put the stakes up under the power lines so I can repaint the posts for Christmas. Don't know why Vince didn't order the new storage containers for them. Maybe this will incent him.

Thought for today:
Why didn’t the dog stop the movie for his friends?
It didn’t have a pause!
I made a lamb cake once for my kids when they were small. Without the pan! It definitely was a challenge for me as I am not very artsy! My aunt and Uncle always brought lamb butter for our family Easter dinner. Everyone was afraid to use it! Lol No one wanted to cut it and use the butter, it was so ‘cute’.
Happy Easter all,
