Lisa - I’m curious how your wildflower seeds turn out. I bought some and am still struggling to get rid of chicks and hens? I think that’s what it’s called. Very few of the flowers lasted.

My boss gave me a beautiful rose for Administrative Professional Day today.
I hope I can keep it alive.I went for a walk again this evening. I walked a little longer and a little further, my pace was slower though.
No walking tomorrow night as I have ceramics.I struggled terribly waking up this morning. I was dreaming and it all seemed so real and weird at the same time.
I think I’ve told you the story of the lady in my life I called Mom that was killed in a car accident back in 1996.I dreamt that she had been in the accident and died, but she wanted to plan her own funeral in her house, or supposed to be her house, but was off enough to know it wasn’t. So she helped plan it, including who would sit where and how it would be paid for and she then climbed back in the casket and told us we should continue with the funeral. I fell back asleep three times to the same dream unfolding. The last thing I remember is crying and telling her I needed her and please couldn’t she just stay.
I miss her so much. I generally love when I dream about her this one was upsetting though.
I dream about her more than my Dad or grandparents. I don’t know if it was the suddenness and her young age or what.I’m watching a comedy and then heading to bed.

I had my hair trimmed yesterday, and, in the general chit-chat at the hairdressers, I mentioned my book. Well, I got a message last night that they want to put it on their social media! I said they'd better read it first to vet it, as there are a few darker moments in there! Still, it was a nice moment. 🤗
Today is Zoom with my old schoolfriends. B just got back from Australia yesterday, so that will be a good catch-up. She has three grandchildren out there. A long way to go to see your loved ones. Her husband is well into his 80s. She said it all went well.
I'm debating whether to go into town today. Because my hair is presentable, I feel I ought to make use of it! 👱♀️ IKEA have opened a pop-up shop while they are waiting for the big one to open in the autumn. I'm curious. Plus I can always use M&S food. 😋 It gets me walking, which is the main thing, and I can pick up something for John for our 22nd 'meeting anniversary' next month. It's the same day as Max's 14th birthday. Luckily, he only wants money this year and has been doing jobs to earn more. He cleared the whole overgrown garden of weeds for his parents. John has also got him a really good economics book.
My 'author's copies' arrive today, so I will have to organise myself into a photo session with John the esteemed photographer. If I can face producing a quick video, I will. Doing new things enlivens the brain!

Morning, my chickens,
Waiting for it to get just a leeeeetle warmer outside. 60 degrees is a titch too cold (15c) for my hands to work well, even in gloves.
Cleanup and outside work adventures:
Got the lawn mowed yesterday, well most of it. The back meadow is still a water meadow from the rain, so putting that big half-ton zero turn mower on there would have been like trying to ice skate and would have just ripped the ground to shreds.
Before I could mow, I had to air up both small front tires and one of the big back tires - when Corey got home, we walked out, figured out what "flat-free" front tires we could get and got them ordered. That will be helpful. He said replacing the back tires was not useful, apparently he can keep these going with slime and tire plugs. Works for me. And yes, we do have a small air compressor that works for tires as well as a number of tools he uses regularly. Cost a hundred bucks, and pays for itself over and over again if you build stuff.
This morning is all tractor work for me, pulling about a 120 feet of chainlink fence or so. Every eight feet is another steel post buried in a concrete plug, so I have to pull the top line steel stabilizer poles that run 20 to 30 feet along the top edge of the fence, then push on five or six posts to loosen them, just gentle shoves with the tractor, then wrap a chain around each one and yank it out of the ground. Then do that again and again. That's the idea, anyway. We'll see.
I'm going to try to get a little bit of video done of what I'm working on. We'll see. Haven't done a lot of taping that isn't on a stand and hooked directly to my laptop! I wonder if I can tape my battery-op camera to the sissybar on the tractor?

Anyway - the temperatures rising slowly, already up two degrees since I started this, and there's a storm line marching across Oklahoma towards us. One source says it will rain by noon, one says by 4 p.m. They often seem to peter out over eastern Oklahoma and never reach us at all, so we'll see. But I should be able to get a couple hours work done this morning.

Last night didn't sleep well but that isn't unusual, and then my brother called at 6:45 this morning..he is just beside himself without his pup,and Jean is just a jerk and doesn't return his calls and ignores him..and when she does show up she is usually drunk and belittles him and just wants money..

😀 My grandmother died when I was in high school and my parents took care of clearing out her house. There were things that I would have liked but no one asked me. When my mother died I was in charge of clearing out her house and I kept a lot of stuff. I still have some of it but over time I got rid of things. Today I was reading about "the duration effect" which is that the longer you've had something, the harder it is to get rid of it even if it has no use and you haven't used it in ages.
😀 Beth, I think the hygienist realized how fragile I was and decided to save calling the dentist until i was able to handle something new. I last saw the dentist in January.
😀 Lisa, everything you do in the yard seems like it is noticeable when you are finished. It must be very satisfying.
😀 I finished pulling all the weeds in the bed where I'll plant sunflowers and pumpkins. I'll move some of the dirt into the yard where Annie has dug holes and use "store bought dirt" for planting. There are lots of weeds around the house and fence so there's still a lot to do. Slow and steady wins the race.

Tracey - good job getting out and walking. I love how organized you are with getting the tubs to store items in your shed. I have plenty of tubs, just need to light a fire under my rear! Cute card. Your creative talent gives joy twice - to you and the recipient both. That was some dream!
Barbara - hope your hip is doing better today and it's just the result of a long ride. I'm still side-sleeping with small pillow between knees and hugging large pillow and it's working well.
Debbie - sorry to hear about your mom's mix-up with the coins. As Carol mentioned, Barbara and Rebecca disappointment as well. Funny, the sentimental items I desperately wanted from my parent's estate are now just things I'll need to find a home for. There was really nothing else of value that I'm aware of.
Lisa - I love hearing about your outdoor adventures mowing (on the "jiggler") and doing outdoor cleanup. Reminds me to keep after my piles and get ready for planting. 4th weekend in May it's probably safe to plant the tomatoes outside. Right now the thermometer says 37F by the shop but it has dipped down to about 33F in the greenhouse - the little plants spent the night in the potting shed where it's around 40.
Mo - I would have gotten that bumblebee for you. My apple trees are starting to bloom. I saw only one honeybee so far but a bumblebee was busy working it over. If we don't get a hard freeze anymore I might get some apples this year.
Barbie - I think the "longer you have something the harder it is to get rid of it" theory is true - at least at my house. I understand the dentist waiting on your tooth right now unless it becomes an emergency. That's how I'm treating my future crown replacement these days. My dentist is a "no push" type of guy. The irritation comes and goes, but I'll probably head back in this summer and get it taken care of. Had to get the property tax bill taken care of this month. It's a doozy!😖
Heather - I've read the first chapter of your new book and it looks very engaging. Need to find time to sit still and keep going.
Allie - sounds like the docs are keeping a good eye on you. Cute pix of SMiles and Delia.
What I've been up lately - lawn maintenance ….
Tuesday Collette came in the morning to clean and Alex's crew came in the afternoon and made some substantial changes in my landscape, removing things and trimming back bushes so I can mow. They'll be back out in a month or so when it dries off back near the powerline and take down a dead pine. Alex's dad wants it for firewood, he'll cut some of the larger limbs for me for firewood then haul off rest of the branches and rake up the pinecones and twigs. $500 plus dump fee. This is why I drive old cars.😁
Yesterday I worked outside a little more and developed a heck of a shin splint 😥- probably from following around the landscape crew on Tuesday - I need new Muck shoes, these old ones don't have a lot of support anymore.
Well, I decided to hop on the mower anyhow and got the back yard done. 10 days ago when I mowed, the mower was a little hard to start - I was hoping the battery just needed to be charged up. That must have worked because no problem yesterday. Will mow the front this afternoon or tomorrow. We've had warm weather but not much rain which should slow it down.
Anyhow, by the end of the day yesterday, shin splint was gone.
Lunch with M today. Working on my grocery list but will hold off on most things to take my first run through the new WINCO store. They don't take credit cards, only cash, debit cards (which I don't have) and checks.

In regarding stuff, I wanted to add living a simpler life doesn't really involve just getting rid of stuff, its about finding the stuff that really matters, and in doing that, you make your world shine. Removing the chaos of clutter does help.🤗💖

Ginny, I would have had you come in to assess the wound. I am a safe than sorry nurse. Thanks for explaining everything. I didn't know exactly what surgery you were having and what was going on. You are in my prayers and heart. I would hate for you to be in an ER full of germs for 5 hours as well. I'm glad you're seeing the surgeon today. In the future, take pictures so they can visualize what you are describing. Parents show me videos of their kid's seizures or apneic spells, and it helps me know what they look like and what to assess. When they say a picture is worth a thousand words, they are not kidding. I love it when parents document wound progression or show me the accident to understand what I am dealing with. Chemo is no joke. I took care of my uncle when he had cancer. I worked in adult oncology during my nursing school years. I was a student nurse worker. I completed my preceptorship in it as well before graduating. I am so glad your family is helping you out.
Lisa, please don't overdo it, and wear thick work gloves. Corey appears to love the tractor. Is Egg telling us we will have a cool spring? April is ending pretty stormy. My grass needs mowing, but it is too wet to get it done.
Purple Cat, don't give up. We must continue to battle the bulge so we can live healthily for the rest of our lives. Please write down the top 5 reasons why you want to lose weight and live a healthy lifestyle and put it on your mirror and in the kitchen. I will do the same. We are here for you.
Flea, the Easter egg hunt looked like a lot of fun. I miss doing all of that. I know I will be doing that again in the future when the grandkids come. Maybe even with my own if they can talk and heal from the past.
Allie, I am worried about you. Please take care of yourself.

On Dentists/hygenist: The dental facility I go to here in New Mexico does not have hygenists, only dentists. The dr does the cleaning and addresses anything found right there. Works well here. I asked once why no hygenist, to which they answered ‘isn’t it better for the dr to do it and get it all over with?” I’m not sure if it is better or not, but I do know that they are quick and thorough!
On bees: My DH is allergic to wasps so we assume bees too though we are not sure. He is scared to death of anything buzzing. It is my duty to dispose of the bee or wasp. If it is a bee, I shoo it outside, but wasps I’ve killed because they don’t need a reason to bite. If DH get’s bitten, its an old epi-pen then a quick trip to the hospital. Haven’t had to do that for over 20 years now, but never know when he will get bit with a reaction.
Heather: I’m waiting until next week to get your book. I’m anxious to read it as I have read all the others. I need to wait until pay-day as I’ve bought 3 bird books, and 3 Al-Anon books recently. I’m going to do some birding and have gone back to Al-Anon since my son has been in rehab.
My son: The rehab program is 28 days and he is done on April 28. They are trying to get him into a sober house. Just before he was admitted, his car was stolen by a drug dealer. It was reported, but no police action as of yet. DS is all worried about how he will get to work once he is out of rehab.This was/is the best program for him yet. The Therapist, Case Manager, and Family Care people are in constant touch with me. I asked the family guy what happens when DS leave, he said he would continue to be in contact with me. I was glad of that. He is a sponsor for Al-Anon but can’t be mine as he only does men, but will support me in getting one and any help I need from him. I was glad of that.
Sorry I’ve been a little distant from here, but know that I read every morning. We are moving next week for 2 weeks then back here per DH. He is a nervous wreck right now affecting me. Sometimes it’s just better to stay quiet. I try to use ‘loving detachment’ on both him and my son. It is an Al-Anon concept and is very helpful in keeping my sanity. The definition is in the spoiler:
DETACHMENT
Detachment is neither kind nor unkind. It
does not imply judgement or condemnation
of the person or situation from which we are
detaching. Separating ourselves from the
adverse effects of another person’s alcohol-
ism can be a means of detaching: this does
not necessarily require physical separation.

with the effects of someone else’s drinking

Yes, the keeper of historical family documents can be daunting. My sister has acquired a huge box of albums that historically are amazing, all from her husband's side of the family. She has no idea who anyone is. If her city was bigger, and maybe if they had a historical society, she could've donated them to it. I donated all my HS yearbooks to my city's historical society, along with a vinyl record of some of us choir members singing in the All State choir. They were excited to have it. But it is hard to figure out what to keep and what not to. There is a certain amount of obligatory feelings to things like that. I have my grandmothers hope chest and everything fits in there, except our family photo albums. That task is daunting to me. I have 8 albums and one day the boys will go thru them together, taking what they want, and discarding them. Or one of them will be the newly selected keeper of the albums and hope chest.😁💖

In all honesty, stuff is just that, stuff. I never did need whole rooms of stuff to remember my mother or father.💖. I think being dismissed hurt more, but I know it wasn't intentional. Their lives were in Oregon, and I was off in CA. I wasn't in their realm. Do you know my eldest sister was angry at my husband for many years? She said that he had taken me from the family, my personality changed. She was more just mad at the Navy but the Navy didn't have a face so it was easier to blame husband. Crazy, but I suppose I understand. I adapted to the Navy way, my actions more disciplined, I guess.⚓👍🏼

I did say I'd put a bit of video together - no sound, unfortunately. Forgot that the microphone on the battery operated camera has a separate on switch. Mostly just engine noise anyway. Taped my camera to the sissy bar, so you are looking past my left ear to see what I see. I also sped this up. And, after the 5th time or so that I hit it with the branch, the tape gave way. Luckily, the camera just gently fell on the muck, and I was able to rescue it before running over it! Edit to add - I've never picked up anything with a tractor bucket before in my life, so this is definitely learning curve and a lot of it.
It's on the unlisted bit of YouTube, so won't be available on the regular channel.

Lisa ~ There is no way i could do what you are doing with that tractor. Reading about getting the posts out seems very hard but much better since you got the tractor. And the MUCK! UGH!
I am doing my physical therapy exercises and I am sore all over! Guess time will tell if they actually help or if I am just falling apart.

Carol, darlin' - Most of the things I've learned in this life have been learned by getting past my own trepidation and doing it anyway, from sewing to painting to playing basketball to posting videos on YouTube to, well, working with a tractor. Genuinely, the only activity that has EVER come naturally to me is writing.
Plus, we decided together that this is important to us, and I don't feel like my husband ought to have all the fun!😀 One thing I have learned is that I do learn things better, like how to use a bucket, if he's not around. When he is around, I have a fallback - he'll do it for me. When it's just me, I have to do it or not do it, because there's no one else to learn from.
The urge to do these things has led to many, many interesting places in my life. Well worth trying anything that you want to!

I am waiting to talk to IRS. I can wait another 10 minutes and then I will have to call back and wait another day. When I paid my last estimated taxes in January I thought the check might be stolen so I cancelled it. No they waited until March 31 to credit it. Too late! I paid those taxes online back on January 16th, 2025. They say I still owe this amount. So I am waiting to find out what Form they need because it is important you fill out the correct form and the documentation needed to prove this amount was already paid.
I got a great agent and she looked up my payment and we concluded they finally got around to trying to credit the check and when it was cancelled they assumed it had not been paid. So no I do not have to pay twice. I admit getting that bill from IRS was upsetting. A relief that it was solved relatively quickly. I waited 45 minutes to talk to someone. Given what is going on in the IRS not bad. I kept busy on the computer waiting. I also starting writing this at 7:30 in the morning.
It was nice to get this cleared up before my friend and I went to Art and Bloom to celebrate her birthday.
Thank you Mo. I just feel grateful to be alive and share a great day of art and flowers with a friend. Also got to go into the Tibetan Room where they have recording of Monks chanting. So healing….

Got to walk with an old friend(former, YEARS ago) daycare parent. Her daughter was 5 when she was here, 27 yrs ago. She had been in my class when I taught at the preschool. I decided I wanted to do daycare again so gave my notice. Her and 5 other kids from the preschool all started coming to my daycare the following Monday. She was a sweet helper when son was born shortly after that. I haven't seen the girl in over 20 yrs I don't think. Saw her mom(the one I walked with 10 yrs ago). Found out she likes to walk her dog at the wetlands so we finally met up and walked today. Almost an hour and a half. Was nice to have someone to walk with but she did tend to focus the talk around herself, but that was ok.
Going to mom's tomorrow so gassed up the car today. Will go get the roll away bed from MIL's house to take up so I will have a bed to sleep in.
Took two corned beef out of the freezer to cook tonight to take up for Saturday dinner. I will leave the left overs for mom. I will freeze in small portions for her.

Mo - I had sent a picture the first night I called and then a new picture the night before -they evaluated those with my symptoms (or lack of other symptoms) before making decision and giving me list of things to watch for that would change course of action. Had never heard of a Chyle leak before, nor have I had a drain in my lungs, so all new to me!
The ongoing leak:
So my journey to doctor Tuesday was very tiring. Right before we were leaving, I sprung a leak. Bandaged up with gauze and washcloth, grabbed a hand towel and extra shirt. Walked fro garage to hospital building (right across street). Long walk to X-ray and then long walk to other end of floor for appointment. Began moving very slowly! Got to to room, told nurse about leak-she out a chucks on me and removed bandage with wash cloth and said "Oh -you are leaking. I'm going to leave the bandage and close here so doctor can see." Of course, when she pushed around, nothing came out. By the time doctor came in, leak decided to show off for him. By this time they had removed original stitches and I was informed I was getting new ones.
I am maintaining the limited fat diet to help-which is standard treatment. I now know more about how my lymphatic system works than I ever had. They don't want you on the low fat diet for too long because it can have health consequences. I guess there is not precise standard for how long it takes the cut portions of the lymph system to heal. We are hoping when I go back May 6 to get staples removed that I can begin transitioning to regular diet. The good news is there is still no sign of infection and my breathing (while a bit limited after the lung resections) does not appear to be hampered by the chyle-so it may be good that some of it is leaking?
Anyways-I am off work until May 21. That will be the 6 week point. I told doctor I was wondering when the major leaking hit if having the surgery really did anything positive to my overall existence. He told me that the one lung tumor could have stayed where it was for quite some time. The tumor on the diaphragm had to go-it was on its way to damaging diaphragm and would have spread to ribs-so I ha e helped myself.
Since new stitches put in Tuesday morning, had small lead. Wednesday night at 36 hour mark. So far today, no signs of anything. Will take bandage off tomorrow and see if it is possible to leave open to the air.
I am making a prodigious list of foods I shall eat-and I think I shall start with macaroni and cheese with ham.
The young man I hired to do some work in basement came by tonight and picked paint color for walls and flooring. He will most likely get stuff done in a couple of weeks-and they are looking to buy a house in my area. Who knows?

Lately I've tried to put stuff on here and poof it just up and disappears..
And anyway today I've been up and got a few things done,and also we got sweet Buddy down to the vet and he will be cremated..stopped to see the kids for about 1/2 hr,and then came home and took a nap.I will make a decision in the next week on whether to go to the in a few weeks or in October.

Mo – I am so sorry for your loss. I just don’t feel it’s my place to tell W what to do. Personally, when their big boss comes, I think he should find the place sparkling, which would mean things like the walls should be cleaned, I know at the soup kitchen they clean the drains every Friday, there’s these drawers where they keep bacon things (maybe others, I don’t know), they can be cleaned. But I would have no idea if you need to use a certain cleaner or what. There are only certain cleaning cloths that you can use in the back. I need to use the red, not the blue or the yellow. Why, I have no idea.
Lisa – like I’ve said, my gardening philosophy is “if God means for it to live, it’ll live”
Margaret – would you believe that I didn’t get my first UTI until about 20 years ago. Haven’t had one since. My cousin had to tell me what it was!
The plan for tomorrow is to do some spinning and then use the rowing machine. Then I need to go to WalMart. We have a zoom meeting at 10 for the condo. Then ceramics at night

My neighbor gave me a hosta that I hope will work in the area I want. If not, no harm done
Allie – What did Tracey use in those ice pops? I use a 32oz container of plain greek yogurt, a 12oz can of OJ concentrate not reconstituted, mix the two together.
Thurs here: Did spinning then used the rowing machine. I think I should wait a couple more weeks before I go in the pool
Went to ceramics and they were closed. Wish we’d known. Oh well. So I came home and planted a plant. I honestly don’t know if it’ll make it or not. It’s a hosta but I planted it in full sun. I know they usually like shade. Well, in our first house there were hostas on the side of the house in full sun and they did fine. If it dies, no big deal. At this price (free) I’m not about to worry if it doesn’t make it. Then I finished the weed whacking, did a bit of weeding on the hill, no big shakes. In a sense, glad I was able to get to that.
Planting the plant was a pleasure. The ground was soft from the rain, I didn’t even need the pickax.
Debbie – I feel your pain. I’m glad to see your husband is coming to terms with his mother’s situation
Barbara – I don’t really understand what you mean by Vince covering for me at ceramics. What do you mean?
After exercise went to WalMart, then home to put away the groceries. We had a zoom meeting for the condo and in the middle of it we lost power! A friend from down there called to see when we were coming and said not much more happened.
The guy who is doing the bathroom said that he expected to be finished today so the plan right now is to go down there May 8 and stay until the 12th. I know when we get down there I have to do laundry since we used the sheets to cover the furniture and now there’s dust all over them. We’ll have to clean, just don’t know how much. I suspect that when I see it, I probably can’t wait to have the other bathroom done.
Seems there was some sort of leak in the condo above us but if we had any damage, I’m sure C would have mentioned it since he was there every day.
Made a chocolate cake for Vince today. Actually, it came out quite good. And low calorie, only 3T of oil but it had applesauce and yogurt in it
Soup kitchen tomorrow. I hope it’s like this when I get out, not raining. If so, I may have tog et one or two more plants, but that will be it for this year….I think
When my grandmother died all I wanted was her sewing machine. I did get it, but my aunt really cleaned it out. The memories of my pretending to use it and going thru the drawers. Wish she’d left things in the drawers, but at least I got the sewing machine. When my dad passed, the only thing I wanted was his rocking chair. I’d hoped to rock my grandchild in it but that didn’t happen.
Well, we decided which contractor we are going with for the deck. It originally was between two of them, but one wanted us to take care of all the permits, etc. It seems to be quite involved. The other guy will do it all. He’s done it before so he’ll be on top of things. This was the guy who didn’t call when he was supposed to be here. But his quote was reasonable and the fact that he’ll take care of all the permits is a big factor to us.
Lanette – Aldi used to not take credit cards, and they’ve changed so hopefully WINCO will also.
I donated MIL and FIL’s highschool yearbooks to their schools.

Barbara ,Tracey,Carol,Lynette and Rebecca- thank you for both understanding and for telling me your stories. Love to hear them.
Rita- my dad was highly allergic to honey bees. He had the epi-pens in a few different places. He had 15 min to get into town after a sting. Scary when they lived 10 miles from town. One time, he almost didn't make it. The whites of his eyes were red by the time he got there.He was not allergic to wasps.I have not been stung that I can remember so I am afraid of getting stung now, just in case.My younger sister said she is allergic to them too but I don't know if hers is a severe as dad's was
Got to walk with an old friend(former, YEARS ago) daycare parent. Her daughter was 5 when she was here, 27 yrs ago. She had been in my class when I taught at the preschool. I decided I wanted to do daycare again so gave my notice. Her and 5 other kids from the preschool all started coming to my daycare the following Monday. She was a sweet helper when son was born shortly after that. I haven't seen the girl in over 20 yrs I don't think. Saw her mom(the one I walked with 10 yrs ago). Found out she likes to walk her dog at the wetlands so we finally met up and walked today. Almost an hour and a half. Was nice to have someone to walk with but she did tend to focus the talk around herself, but that was ok.
Going to mom's tomorrow so gassed up the car today. Will go get the roll away bed from MIL's house to take up so I will have a bed to sleep in.
Took two corned beef out of the freezer to cook tonight to take up for Saturday dinner. I will leave the left overs for mom. I will freeze in small portions for her.

my friend called me with info as to which excursion I would like to have. She I insisted on paying for an excursion for us since I wa paying for the trip. I told her that whatever she decided was good with me. My thought was whatever was cheap was good so that way she wouldn’t pay as much. She gave me some choices and we decided on a zip line one that was in Juneau so that was the pic. The day is coming up before you know it.
