OMG Kay, I'm so very, very sorry for your loss and your entire family. Sending love and prayers for comfort and peace. What a horrible turn of events. Wish I had better words for you. (((HUGS)))

Good morning all:
Healing continues. Leaking stopped last Saturday evening. Have been taking it easy-don't want a restart! Wound looks to be healing well on the outside. Focusing on improving breathing-I didn't use spirometer with leaking (forceful exhaling lead to more leaking!). Get out of breath easily but should improve with exercise. Going for short walk (like four house down block and back today. Still on restricted diet.
Turned in official retirement notice for July 31. Filled out state system for retirement pay. They need to pull in funds from another state system so I can see actual projected monies. Need to contact Social Security to see exactly how that works-I know I get something and I know with windfall elimination it will be better than it was going to be. Going over to double check apartment next week. A little nervous about finances but my head knows it is all ok-just a strange feeling.
Work on basement is going well-should be completed in two weeks (the man works a full-time job). It is nothing fancy but the paint makes a huge difference and the floor will look good. I'm not sure how much "value" it will add to sale price, but having it not done would have taken some away I believe.
Expecting possible bad storms this afternoon. While sitting here with coffee I think I feel great-after doing a couple of simple tasks I need to rest! However, after contacting Social Security, I may start sorting out some drawers and put some stuff together for Goodwill.
Take care all,
Ginny in Ohio

😀 Ginny, glad to hear that the leaking has stopped and you're making slow progress in getting your energy back. My recent experience with calling Social Security is that the wait on the phone is long. When I called in January and again in March, I called early in the day and they said the wait was at least 120 minutes but I could leave a call back number. Each time I waited about three hours before getting a call back. The people I talked to were very pleasant and easy to understand. Great idea getting started now and not waiting until the last minute.
😀 Lisa, Jake talked a lot about wanting to eat more vegetables but, like you, wanted cheese or other sauces on them.
☘️ Terri, I took four years of Latin in high school but since then have used what I learned only to help with clues on "Jeopardy"
😀 About swimming My mother never learned to swim so she insisted that I learn before she'd let me go in the water anywhere. She signed me up for swim classes. That's where I discovered how claustrophobic I am. I could handle anything that required going underwater (some of the turns in lap swimming that going to the bottom of the pool to retrieve something). I tried lap swimming for awhile but found that the time it took to drive to the pool and change clothes was not a good trade for the amount of exercise I got. When we traveled in our RV I frequently swam in pools at RV parks but we haven't traveled like that since 2009. I went to water aerobics once and loved the class but had the same feeling about driving to the pool and changing clothes taking too much time.
😀 About intermittent fasting, It's not for everyone. Many people, like me, need to eat at regular intervals. The biggest trick is to find out what works for you and stick to it. I eat at 5:30, 8:30, 10:30, 3:00, 5:30. I eat many of the same foods every day—lots of protein (eggs, chicken, Isagenix shake, cheese) veggies (frozen mixed veggies, tomatoes) , prunes, and Dave's Killer bread, I look for every opportunity to be active. It works for me but it's not a plan for everyone.
😀 I'm watching the new season of "Mountain Detective". The stories are great and the scenery is spectacular.

Hi, guys,
Taking a break while the Skyriz on-body injector does its thing… Got two things out of the way, took up the length of my pajama pants so I'll quit tripping on them, and shortened both the torso and the leg length of the overalls that finally bought yesterday.
Been thinking about it for a while, and I just need deep pockets too much for small tools while I'm working outside. The apron I've been using is too loose - it gets in the way as often as not. So I got a men's 36 x 29 overall and tried it on in the store over my leggings. My waist is not 36, but my chunky little lady thighs wouldn't fit in anything that was right for my waist. I was able to shorten it up, so we'll see if it suits what I need.
But not today, as I'm taking a rain day. It was supposed to start by now, but should be here in a couple more hours, and Corey wants some pickles. I will be going to the orthotics lab tomorrow to get my orthopedic shoes fitted, but honestly don't love doing a whole lot of things on the same day. Adds stress.
Ginny - So glad you're feeling better. Take care of yourself! And congrats on putting in your retirement pay. Scary, but so lovely on this side.
No video for me this week. Stepping back a bit while I decide if I am OK with letting the number of views I get on a video impact my mood. I can't seem to avoid tangling my self-worth with things that have specific numbers (like weight on a scale, for instance!). I don't mind when it's a matter of selling what I make, even the sales of my books (now), but I need to get to that same detachment with videos or I need to stop doing it.
Time to grab my raincoat and go! 😽
Later, my babies,

I too am in the Broccoli and cauliflower camp. I do eat my veggies with some kind of calcium type food because so many veggies are high in oxalate. Unfortunately the bitter foods have many nutrients to offer us. Our taste buds run toward the sweeter and often not as healthy for us.
Since reducing my sugar and upping my veggies I like the more bitter foods. I have mentioned this book before. Eating on the Wild Side. She tells the history of how some of our veggies have been changed to have a sweeter taste. The sweeter it is the more sugar it has. She helped me embrace bitter again. I have told this story before too. I can remember my grandfather taking bitters before he ate. Within the last few years I learned the reason behind this is to get the bile going to help you digest your food. I realize some of you my have had your gallbladders removed. Are you prescribed some type of bile salts to help in your digestion? What does your doctor have to say about making up for the loss of bile without your gallbladder?

Good Morning Friends...One of my favorites from Art in Bloom...A grille work from an elevator was the inspiration... There was a stuffed bird hidden in the cage.
Hydrating hoping starting to work. I did not have to get up at 4 last night. I am starting to realize I have/had overactive bladder. Without proper hydration your signal to go is thrown off. Age is a factor in that your signal for thirst gets thrown off so you think you are hydrated when you are not. Being a teacher for years did not help either. I can remember not drinking enough water because you did not always have a chance to use the bathroom when you needed to. I am getting myself retrained!

After work went to WalMart to get a few things. I really needed epson salt for the plant. Still don’t know what it does. Dentist this afternoon then I’ll probably start spraying the green posts
Ginny – congrats on turning in the retirement papers! And that the leaking has stopped
Lisa – you’ve given me a good idea. I don’t like to paint the posts in decent clothes, even tho so far I haven’t gotten any paint on my work clothes. But just in case. I’m sure I’d get it on my clothes the first time I was wearing decent clothes. But if I put my apron on over the shorts. Thanks for the idea
Had breakfast and at noon I’ll start the clear liquids. Made jello yesterday. Got some peach today. Should be interesting.
Think I’ll use Lisa’s idea of an apron and paint some of the posts so they can dry while I’m at the dentist

Good morning ladies!
Ginny - so glad to hear of your continued improvement and getting back to walking bit. Perfect time to get going on the retirement and SS with your official July 31 date coming up.
Lisa - glad you are taking the Skyrizi today. The overalls sound perfect for you.
Barbie - thanks for mentioning "The Mountain Detective." I need to find this next season's - it's one of my favorite series.
Machka - enjoy the swimming classes. I'm not a great swimmer - like Barbie, decided it's too much work driving to the pool and changing clothes, etc. I took lessons as a teen and learned enough to save my life - can tread water, dog paddle and swim on my back. Did a little diving back then and really liked that part.
Heather - I'm almost done with your book. I'm really enjoying your timeline of the earth's history and hearing stories of your parents. I've started re-reading the Inspector Ian Rutledge series by Charles Todd which talks vividly about the Battle of Somme, and to think your grandfather was there. Wow. And your story about your father and Dunkirk. My father was stationed in Europe during WW2, mostly in/around Italy. He then was moved to Adak, Alaska when that area was invaded by Japan. He never spoke much about it.
Margaret - My gallbladder was removed years ago. I haven't noticed any problem with digestion, but then I rarely eat a lot of heavy greasy food all at once. I recall the surgeon said the body eventually adapts for most people.
Broccoli and cauliflower - I eat a lot of it. Like it raw in salads and also will steam a big batch of broccoli once a week, generally have a spear or two with scrambled eggs. A favorite cauliflower recipe is to cut it into florets, spread them on cookie sheet and sprinkle with olive oil and seasonings, bake at 400F for 15 or 20 minutes until nearly done. Pull them out of the oven, let them cool slightly then smash them down with a heavy glass, sprinkle with grated parmesan cheese, put them back in the oven for about 5 minutes. Some recipes call for parboiling the cauliflower first, smashing then sprinkling the cheese and baking, but I'm lazy.
What a day yesterday. T messaged me that her uncle suddenly passed away yesterday morning - he'd felt ill on Saturday, wife took him to ER on Sunday and he was admitted to the hospital, then died from blood lots in the lungs! He was only 57. (Tiff is 54, her grandmother had 2 families.)
Then, news of our Kay's brother's tragic accident. 😪
That's the quick catch-up.

Weight: forgot to send to Lanette. I’m up to 184, gained 2.5 pounds this week. I’m not eating right, I know, but…… there is no real reason. No one is forcing me to eat sugar laden foods. Sigh…..
Kay, I’m so sorry about your loss and all you are dealing with right now. Please take care of yourself.
Veggies, I love any and all veggies, including broccoli and cauliflower. I prefer with just butter on them, but DH makes cheese sauce to put on them which is good too. He loves sauces, I prefer the taste of the food without the sauce, so we compromise.

Wowsa, Jona had quite a lot of hair at an early age! So cool! Eli's was thin baby hair, and when he'd get mad or crying, his hands would go up to his head and he'd be pulling his hair. I'm sure he was thinking, " oh strange what is this pain feeling"!
My sons all got their hair cuts on base at base barbershops. It was a rite of passage, and a good way to make them sit still. "Look, see, all the sailors are being good and not fussing about this. Be my good little sailor. You will get a sucker after"!!😁

Hugs to ladies that need them!
Its a drizzly day here on the island.
Here was sons text after his early morning colonoscopy yesterday. He had been on clear Louise since Thursday a when he was admitted, so he was very happy. The most animated he's been! I was so happy!
He will probably be discharged today, he said he hopes to get a PT waiver so he won't have to do that. Something about his old ship in Japan not completing the paperwork for it. He had has an MRI (E?) Its the one with dye he had to drink, so he needs to get results from that.
I guess he got turkey with gravy, a roll and other stuff for dinner, so I told him after his cup of tea, to just relax and sleep. It was a long day for him! Told him I was proud of him. Thank God for technology to ease my peace of mind.

😀 Lisa I used to knit things as gifts for friends and family and after a long famine of getting little or no appreciation for my word, I stopped doing that and began to knit for charity. Now I can happily assume that my work is being appreciated without having to have any tangible evidence. Now I can knit for my own pleasure.
😀 Rebecca, glad to hear better news for your son.
🎵 Barbara, A lot of the music I listen to on my phone while I walk is line dance music. The dances are ones that I knew well and loved. I can visualize the room I was in when I learned the dance and the people around me, but I don't remember the steps.

I always get up at least once in the night to urinate. That's all right. Even twice in the night is OK. More than that might be a sign of an issue.

Michele - Epsom salt adds magnesium to the soil. I use epsom salts around my marigolds to keep the slugs away. They don't like them but have to replenish after too much rain.
Went to water exercise today then sat way too long in the hot tub listening to some guy talking about dancing. Crazy the conversations that get going there.
DD made it safely to Savanah. She was happy she had a whole row of seats to herself on both flights.
Lisa - When I lived in SD I had a pair of insulated Carhartt overalls for going out to the stable. I had to have them shortened but they kept me warm.
Ginny - Congrats on getting your retirement organized.
Everyone take care, Sue in WA

when I go to aqua zumba, I wear my bathing suit over to the class and wear it home- it is less than 15 min drive each way. I have a waterproof "pee pad" that we use for the cats that I put on my seat along with my towel. I take a shower as soon as I get home. No time wasted changing that way. I swim laps before class, 45 min class and swim laps again after.
Our class is just in the summer. I am looking forward to it. I checked with out teacher and she will be doing it again.
For me, at first it wasn't worth the $$- but, that was before I found out I could swim before and after. Adding that extra hour or so made it worth it. I love swimming so I splurge those few months on something just for me(which is rare for me to ever do)Debbie

another thing with Jona when he was young but still get it sometimes(from one friend who has known him for well over 20 yrs).
We pronounce it like you are saying his full name which is Jonathan but stop after the second syllable.
It is not Jonah(like in the bible).
We have never called him Jon or Johnny. It has always been Jona, Jonabug, or Jonathan. First and middle if I need to get his attention.3 -
Decided to just put on a bathrobe while spray painting. Needed to redo a few of the green ones. They’re drying right now so after dinner I’ll bring them in and then I have to repaint some of the orange ones again.
Sue – is that what epson salt does? Thank you for telling me. Do you dissolve the salts first in water and then water your plants or put the salt around the plant and then water it so that the salt penetrates the soil?
Think I may go back into the pool next week. Can’t wait
Just respraypainted half of the orange posts. If they’re not the way Vince would have done it, well, it is what it is, perhaps HE should have done it
Had a nice dinner of chicken broth with a side of jello. Now drinking apple juice. Maybe I should have bought more...lol
Tomorrow Vince is bowling in the afternoon and then in the evening. I’ll be home.

Question for anyone (Heather?) - is there an app FOR FREE where I can write something in English and it will be translated into Spanish?
All the apps I found charge something like $4 or $5. I won't be communicating with W much so I really don't think it would be worth it for me to pay. But I can't seem to find something for free. When I was working at Food Lion, there was a free app that I used to "speak" to a woman who was deaf, translated into ASL.

Michele:
I've used Goggle Translate with pretty good success. I've not used it with people, but if I see or hear something, I can get a translation. However, that's from the source language to English, I assume it would work the other way, but maybe not? In any case, it's free.

Oh Kay, what a shock! ((hugs held extra extra long))
Rori so glad to hear from you. Whooshing good monitor news energy your way.
Thanks, Machka I’ll check my multivitamin for B9/folic acid content and compare with Megafol5.
Michele so glad you’ve found a way to communicate with W. Keep up the good work. Epsom salts provide magnesium and sulfur to plants, Kim would know what that does exactly, I don’t! ;) Is peach jello ok? Know I can’t have anything red (jello or Gatorade) but don’t know about pink/peach…
Carla gorgeous cards, but please no, I have a hard enough time getting rid of stuff, I’d never be able to part with your beautiful art.
Debbie wow, that’s a lot of plants! So glad your mom has some people living on her land to keep an eye on her and help. Your another overnight a month plan sounds good too.
Mo what a trip! Sorry about the migraines and missing the ceremony, loved hearing you know how to do the hustle! ;)
Beth pool repair fail and vanity glitch, ugh, just ugh. Understand you can return/replace the vanity, but what will you do about the pool?
Lisa is there a bridge across the stream, or just a shallow ford? Corey’s retirement plan sounds like a dream, especially the “as far away from anyone else as he can get” part. ;}
Carol you might be a super taster, one with the gene that makes broccoli taste bitter. There are lots of other vegetables to love, you don’t have to eat the ones that don’t taste good.
Rita sorry you didn’t get your appointment, but brava for enjoying the roses’ scents.
Rebecca Hugs for you and prayers for your youngest.
Flea in order for me to eat broccoli stems, they have to be peeled. I’m with you preferring it raw, but I also like it blanched in broccoli crunch salad with cranberries, sunflower seeds and bacon ;)
Allie great news about the lupus meds. You are right right right that Sean moving in with you would not be a good idea. Please make that boundary clear and firm. ((hugs))
Ginny so relieved to hear the leaking stopped and healing continues. Ditto what Barbie said about calling Social Security sooner rather than later.
Barbie what you said about finding out what works for you and stick with it. Same for exercise, for me that’s line dancing and walking dogs at dog group.
Lanette thanks for reminding me that I like roasted cauliflower with olive oil, garlic, salt and parmesan cheese. Must make some soon!
Sue didn’t know slugs don’t like Epsom Salts, thanks! You may have saved my red Romaine ;)
Pip Bravissima! What’s the plan for your cruise?
Gorgeous, sunny, calm morning. Joe helped me put the plastic cover on the new walk in greenhouse from Grocery Outlet. Moved some of the cucumber seedlings into it. Will make it easier to water and keep an eye on them. Joe also moved the big plastic pot into the greenhouse to get ready for the medicinal plant he’ll buy later this week. ;}
Tomorrow is our teacher’s last BB&B class, he’s moving to Arcata. We’re all wearing black and carrying boxes of tissues.
Later, lighter, lovelies!
