If you don't like me...don't talk to me!

There is a lady at my job who I know doesn't like me. The thing is, she's always trying to talk to me, join in on conversations I'm in and whatnot. I've heard, on more than one occasion, that she talks about me behind my back. What I can't understand is...if she can't stand me, why on earth would she bother to talk to me?! If there is a person I don't care for, I'm pleasant with them, but I certainly don't go out of my way to have a conversation with them. I'm not asking them what they did over the weekend, I don't ask about their kids or any of that. I am just amazed that this lady keeps talking to me! What the heck is that about?! Can someone help me understand?

That's a good question ... you may never really get a satisfactory answer to why she or anyone, for that matter, would do that. Some people find it easier to talk smack about others behind their back because they think negative attention is better than no attention. My guess is her talking about you has nothing really to do with YOU at all .. you just happen to a convenient target for conversation. She may feel that she has nothing to offer a workplace conversation because she really has nothing in common with anyone she is trying to 'befriend'...so, she picks an easy target .. like you. Some just seem to have an innate need for this kind of attention.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. Consider the source and don't take it personally. I know, easier said than done. Don't sweat the small stuff.

I find it's usually one of two things:

    1. They have a guilty conscience, so they'll be nice to your face. If they avoid you, you might be on to them not liking you.
    2. They like to ask you things to use against you later. Example: "Kesha, How are your boys"? You: "They're great". She runs to anohter person and says, "Kesha is always bragging about her boys.....

I agree with you~ if you don't like me, don't fake talk to me, please!!!

    Gotta hate when that happens.

    Ahem...
I saw a lady in Wal-mart just now, she was really overweight. She was wearing short shorts and a baby tee...NOT flattering at all!
