    Ginny – I don’t have an Advantage plan for the exact same reason you don’t want one. I don’t want to be locked into only certain doctors. Plus, I want to go to the nearest hospital and like I know in FL it isn’t in network.

    Allie – I’d never seen a stroller wagon like that so I had to look it up. Looks very neat.

    Went to ceramics and the newgal was there. I think she’s very flexible, seems like a niceperson. I do wish they’d kept J on and let M go, so that would mean J would be working with B (the new person). They’d have the knowledge that J has along with the flexibility B would provide. But, alas, they didn’t.

    Put my updated exercise DVD list on my phone, just in case I find any more DVD’s down in FL(like I need more)

    Hello, my dears,

    My stomach has finally settled down - bubble guts all day yesterday into last night, was up from midnight to 2 a.m. and then after I got up again at nearly 7. Not a good 24 hours… but it may be the Activia. I ate one of the small cups of it in the early morning yesterday, and apparently my system doesn't like it at all. I have some odd reactions.

    I'll wait a week, try it again and see what happens. Could just be the stomach flu.

    Heather - So pleased you've enjoyed your visit.

    My best friend is in Hawaii, and got a chance to spend time with my daughter. I got this pic texted to me last night. Two faces I love so much. But no, I don't wish I was there. I wish they were here! 😻

    Just got off the phone with my baby sis; like me, she's been inundated with rain for quite some time. So much flooding around Lawton, Oklahoma. She said the Army base there is basically underwater. We're under a flood watch, but living on the side of a hill has its advantages.

    Later, y'all,
    Love,

    Lanette, All the employees here are gearing up for a BAD summer! We already had some teens ‘skeet’ shooting beer cans over the lake on our ‘Day side’ where all the picnic tables are with a lot of people enjoying the day. On top of Wednesday’ incident, I am very glad to get away for a couple of weeks. We are moving later today.

    I updated my goals for the month and the totals are in the spoiler. With everything going on, I’m glad I only gained 2 pounds over the month. I should be able to drop that easily. With our move to a new location, I will have new places to walk and new birds to spot. Can’t wait!

    At took me a long time to realize that each person is responsible for their life. It took me years to discover that my anguish, anxiety, my depression, my courage, my insomnia & my stress, does not solve your problems but aggravates mine.

    I am not responsible for the actions of anyone & it’s not my job to provide happiness but I am responsible for the reactions I express to that.

    Therefore, I came to the conclusion that my duty to myself is to remain calm and let each one of you solve what corresponds to you.

    On mushrooms in spoiler

    Diet ID x Humana

    Greetings Rita!

    When you hear “mushrooms,” you might think pizza toppings or stir-fries — but there’s a whole world of fungi that go far beyond flavor.

    Functional mushrooms have been prized for centuries in traditional medicine for their potential to boost energy, sharpen focus, strengthen immunity, and even support longevity. Now, modern research is starting to reveal the science behind these benefits.

    Here’s a closer look at some of the most studied functional mushrooms — and what makes them special:

    Reishi (Ganoderma lucidum) Known as the “mushroom of immortality” in Traditional Chinese Medicine, reishi contains compounds called triterpenoids and beta-glucans that may help modulate the immune system, promote relaxation, and support healthy inflammatory responses. Some studies also suggest reishi can help reduce fatigue and improve sleep quality.

    Lion’s Mane (Hericium erinaceus) Lion’s mane looks like a white pom-pom and is celebrated for its potential cognitive benefits. It contains hericenones and erinacines, compounds that may stimulate the production of nerve growth factor (NGF) — a protein essential for the growth and maintenance of brain cells. Early research links lion’s mane to improvements in memory, focus, and even mild cognitive decline.

    Chaga (Inonotus obliquus) This tough, dark mushroom grows on birch trees and is packed with antioxidants, especially polyphenols and melanin. Chaga may help combat oxidative stress, reduce inflammation, and support immune defenses. It's often used as a tea for a natural antioxidant boost.

    Cordyceps (Cordyceps militaris / sinensis) Cordyceps are famous for their energy-enhancing properties. They contain cordycepin, a compound thought to help improve the body’s use of oxygen and increase ATP production (the energy currency of your cells). Some studies suggest cordyceps may help enhance exercise performance and stamina.

    Turkey Tail (Trametes versicolor) Turkey tail is rich in beta-glucans and polysaccharopeptides like PSP and PSK, which may help regulate immune function and support gut health by acting as prebiotics (fuel for beneficial gut bacteria). It's one of the most widely researched mushrooms for immune support.

    How to Find and Use Functional Mushrooms

    You can find functional mushrooms in a variety of forms:

    • Powders: Add to coffee, tea, smoothies, or cooking.
    • Capsules: A convenient option for consistent dosing.
    • Liquid extracts/tinctures: Easy to add to drinks or take on their own.
    • Teas: Especially common for chaga and reishi.
    • Fresh or dried: Available for lion’s mane, reishi, and turkey tail — great for cooking or brewing into broths and teas.

    Look for these products at natural food stores, online retailers, or specialty shops. Choose brands that are third-party tested for quality and free of fillers.

    Doses vary depending on the type and form. Here are some general guidelines:

    • Powders: About 1/2 to 1 teaspoon daily.
    • Capsules: Follow label instructions (often 1–2 per day).
    • Teas: 1–2 cups brewed from dried mushroom pieces or powders.

    Start small and see how you feel — more isn't always better. And because functional mushrooms are adaptogens (they help your body adapt to stress), their effects are often subtle and build over time.
     Here are some ways to use them:

    • Stir powders into coffee, tea, smoothies, oatmeal, or soups.
    • Brew dried mushrooms into teas or broths.
    • Sauté fresh lion’s mane with olive oil and garlic for a delicious, brain-boosting dish.
    • Add extracts to water or other beverages as a quick supplement.

    Consistency is key — functional mushrooms work best when used regularly, not just occasionally.

    Important Note: Functional mushrooms are powerful — but they’re not a magic bullet. They work best when combined with a healthy diet, good sleep, and an overall wellness routine. Always talk to your healthcare provider if you’re pregnant, managing a health condition, or taking medications.

    Adaptogen Mushroom Smoothie

    The fruit and nut butter in this smoothie help balance the earthy flavor of the mushroom powder, making it easy and pleasant to drink.

    Ingredients:

    • 1 banana (frozen or fresh)
    • 1/2 cup frozen berries
    • 1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk (or other milk)
    • 1/2 cup water
    • 1 teaspoon lion’s mane or chaga powder
    • 1 tablespoon nut butter (optional, for creaminess)
    • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)

    Instructions:Blend all ingredients until smooth. Adjust liquid as needed.

    I will plant at least a dozen tomato plants just to make sure I have enough. All different kinds.
    I HAVE to have tomatoes and cucumbers. Most get eaten in the garden, never make it into the house.
    Sauteed mushrooms are sooooo good.

    the prices for assisted living and care homes is so high. MIL is in a private home, shares a room with another patient. There is care there for them 24/7 but they are not medically trained(the two I have seen, other than the owner who is only there part time) don't speak a lot of English. We are paying $4000 a month. The assisted living place we had for dh's aunt was exactly like what you described, size and price(but that was over 5 yrs ago)

    I swam competitively when through college and taught swim lesson at one point. I would stand next to the person I was trying to help learn how to float and have them arch over my hand that I would have supporting them from underneath. I would tell them to think of touching their belly button to the sky and use your hips to lift your legs. Once they felt more comfortable floating on their back I would slowly remove my hand. When learning it would sometimes scare they and then they would pull their head forward which would make them sink.It's Important to keep head back like you are arching your head to see someone behind you. When arch your head back it makes your chest expand and this is what helps you stay afloat. Dead man's float is different and it is learned so that is you need to stay afloat in the water for a prolonged length of time and want to use as little energy as possible.

    Margaret, I can float on my back all right. In fact it's one of my best moves in the water … just lying there and relaxing. 😃

    I can even do the back stroke reasonably well.

    But, turn me over and that's where it all falls apart. For years, I've been sort of propelling myself along with my arms, head up, holding my breath, and dragging my legs. That's not particularly efficient. When I do kick, evidently I bend my knees a lot.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Regarding the time and energy to get to a place to swim …
    My work colleagues have been extremely supportive of me taking swimming lessons. No criticism. No judging because I don't know how to swim. No being made to feel a little bit foolish for wanting to learn to swim at my age. No giving me reasons why I wouldn't want to learn to swim.
    And all of them have told me that as soon as I'm comfortable in the pool, I will be taking it to the beach and will start swimming outside. Because everyone swims outside at the beach! My work colleagues are already talking about me learning how to swim out of a rip, dealing with waves, swimming deep under water, and all sorts!
    I am surrounded by water and beaches here and would not have to go far to be somewhere I could swim. The triathlon club swims at a beach about 5.5 km from where I live.
    And, if I walked about 100 metres from home, I could climb down to the water and might be able to swim there. I would have to ask around to find out if it is OK for swimming, but we're certainly going to try canoeing.
    This is the little tiny beach about 100 metres from home.
    Machka - That Inn is just down the hill from my hotel. I walk past it on the way to the station. I went once with some friends many years ago and sat in the cave part. No, we went to their local micro brewery, in the suburbs, where my son's partner works Friday and Saturday nights, and cooks bar snacks. It's a great community hub for them. I'm pleased my son has found a friendly niche. I met his friend, Gadge, who I have seen a million times on their videos. Weird feeling! Like meeting your favourite superstar!
    Just phoned G, who is recovering from her Paris trip. She's still glad she went, despite the hiccups. We swapped stories.🤩
    Now for a lovely relaxing day.
    Yesterday, I worked from home and worked from 9 am until midnight. Long, long day.
    Today, I slept in, did some gardening, voted, did laundry, and went for a bicycle ride.
    Now I'm trying not to watch anything about the election. Just about every channel is election coverage. 😕
    It's our 22nd meeting anniversary on Tuesday, and I hadn't got John a present! So I went onto Amazon and ordered him some Armagnac. Arrives on Monday. It will remind us of our holiday in south-west France. Not long before we got married. At the time, we were thinking of buying a house there, for long holidays, but decided against it in the end.
    I also bought myself a power bank, not expensive, because I worry about running out of power on my trips. I may never use it, but it will diminish anxiety. Good reviews.
    Then I ordered some dark choc chips to make brownies for Max's birthday, the same day. My old, cherished, recipe has gone offline, but I do have a printed copy somewhere in a file. If not, I found a very similar one online and screenshotted it. It uses real, dark, melted chocolate, like other one. Very squidgy. We will have to take it with us to the school when we collect Bea. John has made him a great card. This year he is having money. John has also bought him an economics book.
    So, all is organised. I will make a card for John this afternoon.
    Heather - Chess geeks are a special breed… sweet card! The trip to and from your son's sounds tiring, I'm so pleased you're handling travel so well now.
    Machka - So pleased your work colleagues are supportive of the swimming lessons. Helps a lot when you don't feel like you're having to push to get what you need. We definitely considered the lack of steps, hall width, hard floors, all the same things you're talking about, when we bought this house. Where it hasn't been big enough, we've made it big enough, like the little half bath. It will easily accommodate whatever walking aids are necessary. We may not live in this house forever, but we wanted to be able to do so if we wish.
    Corey and I are probably going to just take this beautiful spring day off and accomplish nothing much. It's awfully muddy out there, still, and there's enough clay in this soil that it's sticky.
    The birds are yelling their little heads off this cool morning - about ten degrees cooler than yesterday, but will warm up soon.
    The demo work is still going forward on the little house. They've stripped it down to the studs on the inside. Stuck my head inside yesterday to check on progress, and the worker bee showed me the closet that had been walled off in the old living area.
    When I looked at it, I saw he hadn't emptied it yet. The denizens of the place had apparently left a few items in it when they closed it off. He said that he hadn't got them out of there because he kept running into snakes every time he moved anything.
    I left. Hastily.
    Urk.
    Need to get down there and take pictures again today. From outside. 😜
    Love y'all!
