I am starting to go through my clothing. I have done a clothing purge a couple times in the past, but haven't done one since I got to Australia about 16 years ago. I figured it was about time and part of that decision is because I really don't want to store clothes in a bin in a storage facility or garden shed or wherever anymore. Here's the thing … I have clothing in all sizes between 8 and 20 because I have been all sizes between 8 and 20. Right now, my closets and dressers contains the larger sizes and the clothing bin contains the tiny sizes. I could bag up all the tiny clothing and donate it. BUT … I am losing weight now with the goal of getting into smaller clothes. BUT … I probably won't get down to the tiny size of some of these clothes. BUT … I'm not sure about that. Maybe I will. I've done it before. I'm not quite sure what my "donate it" criteria should be. Machka in Oz 9

Thanks for all the storage suggestions. I'm slowly processing. I did buy a cheap chair from Amazon this morning, so I have something to put overnight clothes on. I tend to wear things for a couple of days, or more, so need a clothes horse. I like that this has a back and two sides, as well as the seat, so 4 places to put things. It matches the grey carpet. It's not too big. May move camisoles this afternoon. Then a nap. Then hair wash and face. I've cooked some salmon and pasta for us to have a salad before going out. Love Heather UK xxxxxxxx 8

Other than my dilemma above … I've gone through all the shoes and boots I can lay my hands on right now, and I've got a decent sized bag of shoes I will throw out, and a smaller bag of shoes I will donate. And I thoroughly cleaned my bathroom. One criteria I will use to decide about my clothes is the material. If I can't imagine myself wearing the material for more than a few minutes, the clothes will go into "donate". Wool is one example. I have several beautiful wool pullovers which have gone into the donate bag because just holding them up against me was uncomfortable when a tiny bit touched my neck or wrists. M in Oz 5

Hi everyone! Thank you for the welcome. I'm glad to be part of the group and I'm slowly reading all the comments so I can catch up LOL. SophieRosieMom I don't actually have a weight loss program, I got a job at a meat market almost a year ago and I snack a lot when I'm at work so I'm trying not to do that. Also keeping track on mfp, although I confess I don't always do it. And walking on my treadmill everyday, I've been watching trail videos on YouTube so I can visit other lands :-). Just trying to be mindful and not snacking. So no weight loss just yet, but I'm only just beginning. Machka it's so hard to decide what to keep and what not to. I think I do pretty well, although I do have a pair of pants I bought at Walmart that I just can't seem to get rid of. I've never actually even worn them, I bought them the size I want to be so hopefully someday! I just go through my clothes during season changes like someone mentioned and only keep the stuff I think I'll wear or that I didn't really wear last year go to Goodwill. I made a pair of pants last year and they're too small this year :-( but when I added an additional strip of fabric it looked like I was wearing depends underneath them LOL so I put them back and I'll just have to hope to fit into them by the end of summer! The green pants I was sure wouldn't fit and I wore them for Mother's Day and they did! I added pictures but they don't show up so I'm doing something wrong. I'll figure it out!So I guess I'm doing something right! Honestly though it's way more about feeling healthy instead of feeling sluggish all the time and so far that's been on the uptick. I'm printing out stickers for a girl at work right now and then I'm off to the job. Happy Saturday everyone! 7

Machka, I think that the sorting of clothes is to just make getting dressed easier right? So you could make a box which is clothes a bit bigger, but not the biggest sizes you have. Its one thing to have a box with clothes one or two sizes bigger, for times when you have gained 5/10 lbs. But beyond that, those go, just becomes an excuse to gain, because see you have clothes so no worries!🙃. Of course its nice to have "goal clothes" that you try on and see if you're there yet. But too many n small clothes its just a test of self loathing every darn morning. You don't need that either. So those go, somewhere else, not in your visual in your closet. I like to know that everything I see I can fit into fine. That is relief to my decision side of my brain.👍🏼 Rebecca Whidbey Wa 6

On measles: When my middle child was about 1.6 years old, my oldest was 5.6 and my youngest was under 12 months and still breast feeding, the oldest brought home measles from Kindergarten. All 3 kids got it at almost the same time. I contracted a UTI and was put on a Sulfa antibiotic which gave me a rash much like the kids. Turned out it was hives ( it spread all over me, even the bottom of my feet!). We lived in an isolated place, so I went outside, while it was snowing, with as little clothes as I dared, just to stop the itch for a little bit. Fast forward about 5 years, all kids were in school, so I would go for long walks in the woods. One time I came home and the hives started again! Apparently, I had an allergic reaction to a pine tree that I had brushed against. That began my lifelong battle against allergies! I haven’t had hives again since that last time and I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy! I had to get a prednisone shot for the second time as my throat was starting to close up. So with those experiences, I get every immunization available to me. I never want to go through those experiences again! Puppy time! I taught her ‘watch me’ yesterday and she does it without a treat! This picture was taken when she obeyed the command. He ears are beginning to stand up! She is a riot and a terror at the same time. She definitely has Terrier in her! Thought for today:Why does it take so long for bread to digest?I loafs around! RVRita 7

Beth is there some small change you can make today that will start you on the road to where you want to be with your health. Improving your health is a marathon not a sprint. M Agree not the chair for you. When you sit in a chair your knees should be at the same level or a bit higher than our hips. Chairs are often designed for men who have longer legs than we do. I learned in that posture class I took years ago the fall out for woman is they end up with hip issues because of sitting improperly. One solution is to have a foot stool to help with alignment if chair makes your knees fall below your hips. I readjusted my car seat to make this work too! Still in mantenance Mornings 155-158. Night 157-160. I do get tempted every once in awhile to go back to my old ways. What stops me is how much better I feel and look eating the way I do. Still working on adding more water to my day, tart cherry juice, less meat, and less sugar. I know because of my kidneys I need to be careful adding too much protein and sugar to my diet. I notice with weight down I am better able to handle the heat too. In the past I would have had AC lower on during our last heat wave. I had it on less and at a higher setting. 5

😀 While going through a pile of papers yesterday I found this list that I got at a health fair years ago. It's about sodium. At the time I wasn't concerned about sodium. Now it is more significant. Top 10 Tips for Finding Hidden Salt 1. It tastes salty or you can see the salt on it. 2. It comes in a can or a box. 3. It doesn't need refrigeration or stays fresh for a long time. 4. The label says "instant" or "quick". 5. It's processed meat like lunch meet, deli meat, hot dogs, ham, or sausage. 6. It only needs a microwave for cooking. 7. There's more than 400mg of sodium per serving. 8. Salt or sodium is listed in the first 10 ingredients. 9. I has more than 10% of the daily sodium value per serving. 10. You get it from a fast food restaurant. ❤️🎵 Barbie in NW WA 6

Rita ~ Your new pup is so cute! Your experience with measles and hives must have been horrible. I had a case of shingles years ago and have not gotten the vaccination. Probably should! Heather ~ I like your blue door among the white walls and the brick porch floor. It almost looks tropical. Machka ~ I have a reclining wing back chair. I don't recline it and use a foot stool to prop my feet on. I like sitting up and not leaning back. I agree that some of the reclining chairs would be very uncomfortable for me with their curved backs. Allie ~ Why in the world would the man above you do wood work at night. Can you complain to the management about it? Clothes Sorting: I finally got my mother's and mother n law's donated to the Good Will. It was mostly winter coats and purses. I have a few tops that I need to donate because my torso shape has changed and they feel too tight. Carol in Georgia 5

Lisa - your lawn is looking great and the mimosa - very nice! Intriguing what the birds and wind plant over the years and the best part - they are usually very hardy species. My aronia bush, locust and several Garry (white) oaks are a good example of volunteers I see popping up here. So happy to read you are feeling better. Hope the storms don't bring any damage to your area. Heather - cute chair. The Big Band Swing concert sounds like great fun! Hope your UTI subsides quickly. Rita - Lucy is a "riot and a terror at the same time." I think there's a reason the words terror and terrier seem similar. 😁 Mandy - walking on your treadmill daily and cutting out snacks sounds is a great idea and good place to start. Carol - you hit the nail on the head with the recliner. I like everything about the one I have right now except that it leans back when I put the foot rest up which puts pressure on my lower back so I end up with a couple pillows stuffed behind my back. A nuisance. I used to have a recliner that stayed erect unless I pushed really hard on the arms which would put it in a recline position. 🤔 That's what I'll be shopping for next time if they even still make them. I managed to mow most of the back yard yesterday afternoon and will finish the rest of the lawn this afternoon. Already did some weed eating out front and back under the powerline. Thistleville. I stopped at Grocery Outlet yesterday morning and grabbed a few things. I asked the check-out clerk if business had fallen off since Winco opened a few weeks ago. She said yes, they've laid off 5 people and a few others have had their hours cut. Not sure how Walmart is faring, perhaps the outdoor, hardware and clothing sections are making up for reduction in grocery traffic. I'm working on my grocery list… funny that most of the things I'm going to get tomorrow are at Winco. If they carry the brand of milk I like then I won't have to stop at Walmart. Make it a wonderful weekend! Lanette 😎 SW WA State 6

Weather is lovely this morning. There was so much traffic on hwy 2 going up into the mountains yesterday it was awful. Lots and lots of RVs. We had to take our old kitty, JJ to the vet to have her put down. She came here with me from SD 10 years ago. She was very old, about 18 and had developed thyroid problems. No matter how much we fed her she kept losing weight, even on medication. Will miss her. Hoping to get some yard work done today. Need to cut down the dead bluebells and plant my petunias. The umbrella on the cantilever umbrella ripped over the winter so we got a new one and put it on. I really thought it would be harder to do. Since we had the large ladder out we took down the ceramics on the shelves we can’t reach. Each night I think I’ll put at least one out. We did put the ceramics on the pergola, tho. Just came in from playing mahjongg online. I really like it online, I can play when it works into my schedule. I know that they play on Tuesdays at 10, but I told them that we were having company (which wasn’t a lie) and I didn’t know what time they’d be leaving (which wasn’t a lie). The truth is that I took a sandwich from BK to the guy who had open heart surgery then came home. The guys had left but I honestly didn’t feel like going. Had too much to do at home. Vince gave me my new computer, now I have to get used to it. Finished Jess’ tissue box cover for Christmas now to work on the one for my friend in FL Allie – what’s Carmine been up to? Heather – nice looking bedroom Lisa – fantastic news! Barbara – one time this guy that I take the water aerobics saw me at the front desk checking in and he said “so that’s what you look like with your clothes on!” Then he realized what he’d said. We all had a good laugh Well, I didn’t go in the pool Thurs. I totally forgot that we had a zoom meeting for the condo so after the rowing machine, I went to Aldi. Got the groceries in, ate breakfast, then we had the zoom meeting Vince did buy gas for the mower. He used my car. He didn’t air the trunk out so everything reeked of gasoline. All my bags for Aldi. When I got in the car the next day, I swear if I’d lit a match, the car would have exploded. He opened the windows yesterday but you can still smell a hint of gasoline Yesterday we got the ceramics down that were on the shelves and little by little I’ve been putting them out. I just don’t like doing everything in one day Meeting a gal who used to work at BK for dinner tomorrow Mo- I used to teach a senior strength class We’re supposed to go up to a friend’s house in PA in two weeks. Jess is invited so she asked if the lady who watches our cats would watch hers too. I’m sure she won’t have a problem. I do feel bad for Jess’ dog, tho. That would mean that for about 23 hours/day he’d be in his crate. But I don’t see any other choice Welcome Mandie Heather – sorry your UTI revved up barbie – interesting list about the sodium. Some of those things I never knew! Just made meatloaves for this week and the freezer. Will make pork chops tonight. Lectoring at the church tonight. Michele 6

            hey peeps-
yesterday we walked to our local Red Robin so I could get my free birthday burger. They used to honor it for take out/to go but not anymore. We walked so we could walk off some calories on the way home. Today is one of my brothers birthday, tomorrow is mine. I realized that I only gained a pound on that Alaska cruise, I’m happy with that! Kirby leaves for Vegas on June 1st, I’m excited for him and to be alone for a week, just me and the kids, then when we come back, going to pismo again. For all we know, this may be yogi’s last trip. His bump on his side has gotten big. When we were in Washington , we used this service called peaceful passings where the vet will come to your home and put your pet down. I found that they have that service here too. When. The time comes that’s what we are going to do for yogi. It’s going to hit kirby really hard, I can tell. I have a vet appointment on the 2nd, I want to ask a few questions, I will record it so kirby will be able to hear what is said.

😪 Sue, so sorry about your kitty. They never stay with us long enough no matter how long they stay. 😥 Pip, sorry to hear about Yogi. Good to hear about your trips. 🌻 I did my quarterly shopping as Costco this morning. I got there way before they opened and waited with other eager shoppers for the doors to open (earlier than the posted 9:30). I parked way out so there would be no one around to disturb Annie while I shopped. I got all five items on my list and one more that was something I wanted and didn't realize that Costco had it in a package that wasn't too big for me. I noticed how pleasant and friendly all the employees were and how the early shoppers were polite and not pushy. I also noticed how easy it would be to be tempted into buying things I didn't need. 😎 Oops, I realized then when I counted the sections of fence to wash, I was counting only the inside. So I have 22 sections to wash and have finished four. It will take longer but one section a day will get it finished in June. Annie enjoyed her time sunbathing and barking at passers-by as I worked. In about an hour I washed a section of fence and pulled weeds filling two five gallon buckets. 😥 I watched the last episode of "Vera" today then found a documentary about the making of the series and will watch it this afternoon. I found the book that inspired the series and have it on hold at the library. 7

Pip - Happy Birthday! I saw something where it's fun to give a biological age/age you feel. Will you be something like 66/21? Sorry to hear about Yogi. Nice that there's a business like that which makes house calls - there's one in my area too. Sue - sorry about your kitty - wow, 18 is pretty old. You were a good cat mom to keep her going for so long. Yes the traffic on I-5 was already getting heavy yesterday too. My lunch date M said she drove on it a ways to get into town, she was going 75 and it was like she was standing still. I took the back roads.😉 Michele - I'd love to see a photo one of these days of your pool and ceramics you have out there. I think you posted one years ago. I know what you mean about carrying gas in the car. DH always did that and I was grateful I didn't have to ride in it. These days I use the Sube and have a tarp down to set the cans on so if there's a spill I can pull it out. Luckily I can nearly see the gas station from my house so it doesn't have time to slosh around much. Only filling them half full probably helps. Flea - did the kids decide to take their trip after all? Is the creepy stepdad in jail? Lisa - I forgot to mention your meatball recipe sounds a lot like mine. Great way to get a ton of very tasty, economical meals. The price of pork sausage has gone down quite a bit here recently. I've noticed when I eat in a restaurant these days, it seems the expected tip is now 20% - 30%? I remember when it was normally 15%. I'm not surprised your and Corey's breakfasts totalled $50. Well, I just finished mowing. Really went after the blackberries and weeds under the power line. Only hit one large object, lol. Didn't damage a blade (I hope). I need to go inspect the mower deck though. It seemed to mow OK afterward. I'm sure the neighbors gave up having an afternoon nap - every pine cone I hit made a racket and I probably went through a thousand but there's no way I could rake them up, they were hiding in the grass. I found out my friend Charlie got a new mower too - an ExMark. I'd never heard of it, maybe it's a commercial mower? When my Toro dies maybe I should look into something like that if I'm going to keep abusing mowers like I do.😁 I found out Winco has individually portioned frozen fish so I'll see what they have tomorrow. I missed the sale on black cod/sablefish at Safeway last week, darn. I love it - it's a great oily fish. I think flash frozen fish is better than fish that's been sitting in the case, even better if it was frozen on the ship. I'll be curious to see who the distributor is. Time for a cup of tea and figure out my next plan of attack, lol. Maybe a nap first though. Lanette 😁 SW WA State where it's a pleasant 76F right now. 7

So sorry to hear that Sue. We will have to do the same thing with our old grandma cat, Shiro- Same thing. She eats constantly but just is skin and bones. Dh isn't ready to have her put down but he is getting close. He has agreed that when we run through his latest order of pee pads that he will consider it. The order was 400 pads, we already had at least 200 here when he ordered. We go through SOOOO many of them and the washable ones, all because of her. We don't know exactly how old she is- she was a stray that showed up, stayed in our yard for years before we brought her in and that was over 5 yrs ago. Guessing she is at least 16-17. Weighs less that 6 lbs last time I weighed her
When she does pass away(he is hoping she will just pass in her sleep), we will finally be able to take a trip. We have a friend that will take care of the other cats. Her care is just toooooo much to ask anyone to handle, even though I pet sit for them three or four times a year and have for a long time, and we haven't had her take care of ours since the very beginning of covid which was our last trip.Pip- hopefully you get good news from the vet and Yogi can stay with you longer 7

Pip – happy early birthday. I feel so bad for Yogi. Having to put a pet down is so hard, but it’s good that you’re going to do it in your home. When Jess had to have her cat put down, don’t ask me how she did it, but she got the injection and gave it to the cat. I could NEVER do something like that Sue – sorry about your kitty Lanette – I’ll post pics of the pool and ceramics, but it might be a while. I don’t have them all out and like I said, I only do a few a day. Like barbie, it’ll get done. Maybe when Jess is here next weekend, she can help some. I wish Vince would do just a little at a time. He likes to do everything at once and then he’s real tired and can’t do anything. Oh, last year (or was it the year before?) the pipe to the heat pump for the spa broke. Vince worked on it today and realized that a bird family has taken up residence in the heat pump. So we can’t run it. Jess has always said that she wants the spa warm, but I bet she’d be willing to give that up so that the birdies can survive. Actually, when she comes next weekend, we’ll probably take off the cover to the heatpump and relocate the birds. We’ve had cats who ate and ate and ate but still lost weight (sometimes I wish I could do that!) What it wound up was that they had hyperthyroidism. Giving them radioactive isotope treatment cured the problem completely. Michele who is waiting for the porkchops to bake completely 6

Criteria for getting rid of clothes …Anything that is not comfortable - scratchy, neck too tight, cuts armpits, pinches, anything that you recall pulling, tugging and adjusting to try to make it more comfortable. - For me, this includes wool and turtlenecks. I used to be able to wear them, but not anymore.
Pieces you regularly skip in your closet - when you are looking for a top, these are the ones that are almost always a "nope". Chances are they aren't as comfortable as you'd like or they just don't work with anything else or maybe you don't feel attractive in the item. - I think for me this will include items that make me look like a blob. Some things are just cut wrong for me.
Items that have never been worn - anything with the tags still on them or anything that you wore once or twice and weren't that excited about. - I have a few of these. Some will likely go (the ones with high necks like turtlenecks or mock turtlenecks), some I'll keep because at the rate I'm losing weight, I'll be into them shortly.
Clothing from another life - pieces you used to wear, but realistically will never wear again. Pieces you wish there was an event or something where you could wear them. Pieces that just don't fit your current life or life in the foreseeable future. Pieces that just aren't your style now. - These will be the little short tops I wore in my 20s and 30s when I was thin and fit. The ones that barely come to my waist. They are back in fashion now, but probably not for a 58 year old woman.
Pieces that are dated - anything that is noticeably out of fashion. Older classic pieces are all right, like a black pencil skirt, but hanging onto something because it might come into fashion again is not. - Most of my clothes are fairly classic. I've not been the type of person to chase the latest fashion.
Clothes that require extra care - items that require dry cleaning, hand washing, lying flat to dry, ironing, etc. may not be part of your lifestyle. If you're happy to do all that with an item, great. But if it is a chore, it might be time for the item to go. - This might include wool items for me.
Anything that needs alterations or mending - if you just can't be bothered, maybe you're not really interested in wearing the item. - I have a bag of this sort of clothing.
Clothes that don't fit - as I mentioned, I've got a wide range of sizes. But as Mandy mentioned, it is probably a good idea to hang onto a size or two above and below my current size, but not the sizes that are some distance away. - One thing I noticed when I lost weight in 2015 was that my body shape changed. While I was back down to the weight I was in my early 30s, some of the clothing I wore then was uncomfortable because my body shape changed. I am losing weight now, but if I get down to the weight I was in my early 30s, I might not be able to wear my smallest sizes anyway because my body shape will have changed again.
Anything you would not buy again - ask, "if I were in the store, would I buy this?" - Interesting question which I will have to ask myself.
Also … Declutter clothing in stages - start by removing the clothing you really don't like or really won't work for you anymore. If you're not sure, make a point to wear the item a time or two. Machka in Oz 6

Lisa: The internet is a marvellous resource for questing minds, but one must results with sense and sensibility. I do use it quite a lot. Machka: I know that feeling. It’s difficult to get rid of things that you feel that you might actually get into. However, after years of maintaining my weight, I have removed most of my larger sizes. Also, I tend to buy reasonable quality clothes, so they last quite a long time, although they’re not worth donating by the time I get rid of them. shoes and boots are quite another thing. I think I have more than a little bit of Imelda Marcus in me.
It’s bright and sunny with high Clyde at the moment. The forecast is for . Planning to do a little work in the garden if the weather holds dry. Then this afternoon we have planned a WhatsApp chat with .

I would add to Machka's helpful info, that it's good to have as few clothes as possible. I have pared my wardrobe down to not quite the bare minimum, but nearly. I love every single one of my clothes, and they reflect my style. Most of the stuff in most people's wardrobes is rarely worn, and just cluttering up space. If in doubt, throw it out! I really enjoyed the jazz last night. The church it was in is the oldest in Brighton, 14th century, when it was a small fishing village called Brighthelmstone. There is a stone, carved, font there, from the same era. The band were good fun, a big ragged here and there, but they made a great noise. I, personally, would have liked a few more oldies, but they gave us a few. The singer had a good voice, but zero presence. But 'Night and Day' was wonderful. I am a sucker for a good tune. I did have a little cry at 'In the Mood', because it reminded me of my mother in the war, at 18 or 19, going to dances in London, when the bombs allowed. She adored dancing with a good partner. Max seemed to enjoy it, and perked up at the piano solos. He is experimenting with jazz piano. John may take him to something else in the Brighton Festival. Edie mostly read her book, but was very attentive to the songs. Bea sat next to John and jigged about the whole time, but enjoyed herself. The drummer was female, as was the alto sax. The singer also played the trumpet! So, a good evening. We went by Uber, and got good seats by being first in the queue. We came back on the bus. The family are right now on the ferry to the Isle of Wight. DDIL has a photo of us all on her phone, but hasn't sent it yet. John wore his pork pie hat, and looked great! I had a bath this morning and all is good. I can feel the antibiotics are giving me thrush, but I do have some medication for that. I'll probably use a pessary tonight. Lunch is Dim Sum. Dinner is halloumi curry. Yesterday, John was bowled over by my salmon pasta salad, and kept singing its praise. We put it down to the wonderful olive oil I use. I've bought my son some oil from the slopes of Mt Etna for his birthday next week. 😃 I'll be curious to taste it. LLove to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx 5

Clothing/De-cluttering …. I have a phrase that runs in my head … "does this item deserve a spot in prime real estate?" So, for example, my kitchen counter isn't overly large. Does an Instant Pot or Air Fryer deserve a spot on the counter which is limited and "prime real estate"? Nope. Does something I use infrequently get same status as something I use daily? Nope. Same with my clothes closet and the things I store in there. I'm not perfect at this, but it helps when I'm sorting things. Went to the phone carrier store yesterday and upgraded our plan and phones. It was a debacle. Three trips to the place and over 5 hours in the store. I went to bed with a headache. Still not completely sorted out (we need to relinquish our old phones before some of the "deals" show up on the bill) but will deal with it on Monday when the salesman we worked with will be in. Also bought a new mattress on Friday. Will be delivered on Tuesday. That too didn't go well. My husband's back couldn't tolerate getting on and off different mattresses after a while. So we stopped and bought the one that we thought will work best. There's a guarantee, so we can trade to a different mattress if it doesn't work out, but honestly don't know which of the other mattresses we could sleep in. Keeping my fingers crossed. It's been an expensive two days and I'm stressed out. Will visit my mom this afternoon and try not to think about it. Beth near Buffalo 9
