Heather … you and your family look wonderful. Sorry you're dealing with a UTI.
Rebecca … glad that Zepbound is working for you!
Machka … I hang on to smaller clothes too as incentive to lose weight, but also because I don't like to spend unnecessary money. Congrats on 20 pounds lost since January !
Heading to church now. Son is singing this morning.

Heather - It looks like wonderful fun, a relaxed night where you are all able to be together and enjoy. John looks quite spiffy in that hat, as do they all, and love your jeans and trainers look.
Machka - One thing I love about my very quiet, home-centered life is that I need very few different kinds or styles of clothing. I never really was in style even when working, though. Kept a few pairs of black slacks, low-heeled shoes and bright-colored blouses for office days, that was it. Fewer choices made for less stressful mornings.
Sue - Sorry about your cat, dear heart. Giving them that gift is the highest love we can give them.
PIp - Sorry, too, about Yogi. Heartbreaking to lose him, I know.
Mid-holiday weekend, and a large part of Arkansas, Oklahoma, Missouri and Kansas are under what's called "areal" flood watches and warnings. Basically, if you live near a river, stream, creek, any area where water normally flows, it's going to run high and overflow its banks. We are not under any threat, but we're also not going to be working outside at all!
We're supposed to get a break in the rain for a bit now, but more tonight and into tomorrow afternoon. Seems there's often either too much water or not enough in this country… Still, better than my dozen years spent in the desert, where there was almost never enough.
Sounds quite biblical that, but I wasn't wandering, I actually lived there. 😉🐈⬛😹
Anyway… not sure what Corey's plans are for today, but I slept for nearly 10 hours straight, and ready to accomplish something. Probably in the house - deep cleaned the kitchen yesterday, and the next one in line is laundry room and then my (gulp!) craft room.
Finally started the next mural on my refrigerator, got the background down yesterday. Now to see if I can get a sketch onto it and lay paint in a way that comes close to matching the vision in my head…takes weeks, especially in this weather where paint takes time to dry.
Gained three pounds since the scope. Just commenting. Not panicking. Yet.
Later,
Love y'all,

Summer came too early here. Temp got up to 104-3 times this week, including yesterday. But the beach was full, campground full, great for the park!
Excited about trip this week. Packing day today. 2 days till leaving. I really need this. It’s been 3 years since my last trip alone.
Thought for today:
How is my wallet like an onion?
Every time I open it, I cry!

Machka ~ This is for you…author unknown:
In the quiet corners of rural life, an old tradition once buzzed softly beneath the surface—telling the bees. It was a custom rooted in respect, mystery, and an almost magical connection between humans and nature. Beekeepers in 18th and 19th century Europe and America believed that bees were not just insects—they were members of the family, messengers between this world and the next. And like any family member, they deserved to be told when something significant happened. When a loved one died, got married, or even when a child was born, the head of the household—or more often, the “goodwife”—would walk solemnly to the hive, knock gently, and whisper the news. They’d say the name of the person who had passed or wed, and even drape the hives in black cloth during mourning. Why? Because legend warned that if the bees were not told, they might fall ill, stop producing honey, abandon the hive—or worse, die. This wasn’t just folklore; it reflected a powerful belief that bees could feel joy and sorrow, that they needed to be included in the life of the household. The practice likely finds its roots in Celtic mythology, where bees were seen as spiritual couriers, able to travel between the worlds of the living and the dead. Seeing a bee after someone passed away was interpreted as the soul in flight. Some beekeepers even shared wedding cake or wine with their bees, inviting them to celebrate. It was a mutual relationship—if you respected them, they blessed you with sweet honey and a thriving hive.In a world that’s growing louder and more disconnected from nature, the tradition of “telling the bees” is a beautiful reminder of the quiet reverence our ancestors held for the natural world. They didn’t just farm the land or keep animals—they communed with them. And in return, they believed those creatures held the secrets of life, death, and everything in between.

Beth - like you, I'm also limited in counter space. I have deep cupboards under what counters I do have, but with this tricky back, I prefer appliances to be at waist level at least. And a couple live in the garage on a shelf. Good luck with the mattress - I'll be curious to know what you picked and if you still like it 6 months from now. That phone shopping - what an ordeal.
I think I'll be stuck with many things I have until they are no longer usable because of decision fatigue.
Rita - temps in the 100's! That's toasty. 😯 My A/C came on yesterday afternoon when the house hit 72F.
I made a sunrise run to grocery shop this morning. I have a large package of sliced chicken breasts to saute today and broccoli to steam. That should set me up for many meals this week.
It's looking pretty overcast right now - no rain today, it's supposed to wait until evening. Might take the day off and not worry about weed eating.
T messaged me this morning, she might stop by later on. Hope I can talk her into taking tomatoes. Even though many of them look scrawny, some are starting to set blooms. Have you seen the Garden French Manicure? It's the rage here this summer. 😁
Reminder - tomorrow is Weekly Check-in for those participating.

😕 Beth, getting a new phone and a new mattress in the same week sounds like the recipe for stress. That's more than a month's worth of decision fatigue. You deserve gold stars and a nap.
😀 Heather, your adventures and your family look awesome, as usual. You look especially good in that photo.
😀 This morning I put labels on some of my fancy iris so when it's time to thin them, I'll know what color they are. Two of my neighbours asked for iris when I thin them out in September so I want to be able to share the colours they want. I'll thin more than just those but the others will be for me and it won't matter what colour they are when I put them somewhere else in my yard.
😀 Chicken soup is simmering on the stove—-chicken bought at Costco yesterday and veggies and broth were part of my curbside pickup at QFC this morning. This pot will make about a dozen meals for me. I'll freeze it Mason jars.
😀 Lunch is a pbj with Adams natural peanut butter, apricot jam, and Dave's Killer bread with a few grape tomatoes on the side. Yum.
😀 I've been watching Svalbard videos on YouTube— a simple life.

Happy Birthday Pip!! So sorry about Yogi.
Sunny but cooler here today, supposed to rain tomorrow. I went to church this morning and DD got some mowing done with the push strimmer. Grass had gotten so high in places the regular mower and weed whacker were not enough to cut it down. We talked about buying some more corral panels on sale this week end to be able to let the goats onto some different areas. They are definitely efficient at clearing things out but we have really rocky ground and driving fence posts in for temporary fencing is a lot of work.
Everyone take care, Sue in WA

Did Firm Super Cardio Mix DVD then Yoga for Beginners DVD, took a short walk around the block ecause I needed to get home to go to the bathroom (LOL), then went to WalMart. Got most of the ceramics out, at least now I can get my car in the garage. The ones Vince has to work on still need to go out.
I tend to buy most of my clothing at thrift stores so I don’t feel bad redonating it for any reason. Also, this way I’m constantly being able to vary my wardrobe. Something goes to the Salvation Army if I no longer want to wear it
Beth – I hope everything works for you with the mattress
Heather – you all look so lovely.
Appliances: I don’t like having things on the counter, all my appliances are in cupboards. It is a bit of a hassle to get heavy things out, but I’d rather the hassle than the cluttered counter
Went out to dinner with a gal who used to work at BK. She wanted to go to this Chinese restaurant. To be honest, I wasn’t impressed at all. The whole time we were there, we were the only patrons. When we got there, the parking lot was empty. I think I saw one person getting take out. Kind of makes me wonder about the freshness of the food. But it WAS filling. Just got the diet shrimp and vegetables. They had another shrimp and vegetables item on the menu so I asked what the difference was. The diet plate didn’t have the sauce, which I didn’t want anyway. Came home and had some ice cream hoping that’ll settle my stomach some.
Shower because work tomorrow.

I had never heard the expression “rationalize your wardrobe” so I googled it to confirm it meant what I thought it meant. I am working on that right now. I have an appointment Friday with a consignment shop. I’ve found that my biggest pile of things to take is shoes. I have a lot of practically new, hardly worn, expensive shoes.
i’m not quite sure how - probably my new strength training habit, but I have busted through my plateau and dropped another 5 lbs. I am now at my lowest weight since starting my journey in 2011 - 65 lbs lost altogether. I’d like to see another 15 or so gone, but that may not happen.
I visited my mother today. Possum/Lavender ran to greet me. She has more energy already. Her new Science diet regime is definitely making a difference. My mother is spoiling her with attention, which is a good thing. Mark my words, that dog will be in the house, come winter. Lol.13 -
Barbie, which cozy mysteries set in small town Cape Cod are you reading? Always looking for a good, cozy series.
Rori thankful for that dream answer from your DH. ((hugs))
Heather, what a tribute to your design, that Johnny wants to redo his room! Will wonders never cease?
Tracey love the deck but even more that you are quite firm with people who push you to eat whatever. Good strong boundaries needed with pushy people.

Travelogue Spoiler Saturday last, guests K and N and I waked the Stout Grove. While the trail around the redwoods is only a half mile, to get to the trailhead you go down a loooong paved path. N really struggled coming back up. Overheard her mentioning to K that it might be time to reconsider her opposition to knee surgery. Only pray she hasn’t left it too long. She looked to be it mighty pain. Lunch at Chart Room to see the sea lions, then visited “Ocean World” in Crescent City. I’ve never been before and won’t again but will recommend it to anyone traveling with children. “Tidepools” full of sea stars, gum boots and sea anemones to touch. A friendly shark to pet as she swims by. Amusing seal acts. Small tourist town diversions. T and C joined us for dinner at Groundlings Pizza in Wedderburn, beautiful view of the Rogue River. Face-planted when I got home. Sunday morning K and N explored Chetco point while I went to church. Suspect we were all relieved to have some time off ;} afternoon, after we enjoyed lunch at Black Trumpet Bistro we strolled around Brookings Harbor’s boardwalk, checking out the Art at the Port paintings, and stopping in Pithitude for some souvenirs. Hugs held real long and they were off.
Later, lighter, lovelies!

Barbara: Like you I am enjoying some peace and recovery after a lovely visit with N.
The entire "date" was great. One high point was our trip to Rocky Mountain National Park for 2 nights. Did some long scenic walks as well as took a trail ride. Our first time on horses in many years. I was nervous that 2 hours on a saddle would cripple me. but i actually got my legs back quite quickly. (have tried to insert photos, but it's not working….gah!) He went home yesterday. Next date is set for late July.
Pip: Belated HB. Hope you have much more time with Yogi.
Heather: Bravo on the home improvements. You and the family look great.
Sue: Sorry about the loss of your kitty. (Hugs)
Kay: WTG on busting thru the plateau. So happy to hear Possum is thriving.
Michele: I'm a thrift store shopper, too. I've gotten over half of my wardrobe from thrift and consignment stores. Something goes out every time a new piece comes in.
Happy Memorial Day to anyone commemorating. It has been stormy all day. Stayed in getting my house in order. Stay well friends. We can do this.

HI!!!
It has been a wild couple of weeks! Will get back to that shortly!
Lisa- Glad the colonoscopy reports were good. Continued healing thoughts!
Allie- Sounds like your trip was wonderful! Love the pictures of the kiddos.
Pip- Happy Birthday!!!! So sorry to hear about Yogi.
Sue- So sorry about your cat. I agree with Lisa though. Sometimes our greatest love is releasing them. Hugs for you too.
Heather- Love the room. It is amazing what some updates can do!
Tracey- Your deck looks welcoming! I love your update to your table.
Mo- What a situation to be in with DH. Our Chiropractor said to drink some salt water when I feel a headache/migraine coming on. Just put some salt in water and drink. I prefer Liquid IV , but it has helped.
Carol- I thought your picture was new! You look wonderful!
Sorry if I missed anyone. I walked for over an hour reading from page 16 this morning.
We made it to the car show in Brown County Indiana last weekend. I was caught up with invoices even though not as caught up on paperwork as I wanted to be. DH was a pain for most of the trip before, during, and after. Somehow everything was my fault-smh… whatever! We left 15 minutes later than he wanted as granddaughter was waiting for her mom to get home to say goodbye. I didn't park the car right when we go there. They changed the carts and I wasn't doing things right. The ac didn't work on our floor (again, my fault). I helped granddaughter clean on her car and not as much as on ours on Friday. We spent 15 minutes in the storm area of the Inn due to tornado and hail warnings on Friday evening. That was before we listened to what sounded like thunder for 14 minus. A couple million dollars worth of cars in the parking lot! No damage to those at the Inn. We did finally get AC that evening. Dh not happy where we got parked at show (again my fault) on Saturday. Not happy that we won 3rd place. I don't know who won second, but first place was a trailered car by a detailer. Ours is driven. Can't win them all. Shopping on Sunday was good! I found out on Monday via FB that the Horseman Campground which is only about a mile from the lodge did get hit by a tornado. 1 horse and two dogs died, several campers and trailers damaged. No human lives taken. Very scary.
This past week wasn't much better. Just crazy at work. Couldn't seem to get things done right. Misplaced my house keys for a day (again my fault). I got lots of sleep as my escape is sleep. Work is a cluster. DH had surgery for a bone spur hitting the nerve in his elbow on Friday. This was in spite of the entire Kettering Med Center Computer system being down due to ransomware. Folks weren't happy about going back to paper files! I feel badly for the folks who will have to go back in a data entry everything for two weeks or more of papers! Surgery was a success. The shop is still standing. I know there wasn't a lot of repair done as the guys were up front helping SIL and her granddaughter on Friday and Saturday. DH has been behaving for the most part. I have caught up on work paperwork as of what I had when I left work on Thursday. 26 hours missed at work last two weekends made up with 26 hrs of work at home since Friday. I did clean litter boxes, tidy up a few things, and vacuum today. Tomorrow I will finish putting away some laundry and do some house paperwork as well. Nothing major in game plan.
Mattresses- we have a nice firm one which is great for back, but have placed a 3" foam topper on it as my hips didn't like the mattress.
Beth- Those two decisions would have sent me over the edge!
Kay- Congrats!
I have to say that having extra days off especially this weekend has been awesome! The cats are exhausted at night as they have played outside most days. The hummingbirds are visiting the feeders a d hanging baskets. Feeling much more relaxed than I have in a long while.
Oh! Had a hot air balloon land in our backyard Saturday. Exciting!
Much love,
Kylia in cooler than normal Ohio

Lanette - When my hip was bad I actually found the pressure of laying on my bed hurt so I bought a 2” foam mattress topper. A good quality one. It relieved the pressure and after about 18 months I realized the pain I was feeling then was more lack of support than needing the cushioning. I took it off and have done well since. I’m sure a therapist wouldn’t recommend that, but it helped me.
I had that manicure last week.Heather - that porch looks inviting.
What a great family photo.Margaret - my therapist’s told me my knees should never be above my hip.
Rita - your puppy is quite cute.
Pip - Happy Birthday!
Clothes - I have very few clothes really. I don’t buy expensive clothes. Our closet is probably only 5 feet and we have to share it. I cull my clothes each Spring and Fall. I also have a bag in my room that if I notice I’m going past something in a regular basis I just throw it in the bag.
I had fun at the Scrapbook Carnival and hope to go again next year.
I have a lot of counter space and like it mostly empty, but we do have a fair amount on it as I have no other spaces available.
Barbara - I don’t think I would delay any surgery recommended if I was healthy enough to recover from it. My grandmother was encouraged to get a hip replacement in her 70’s and in her 90’s said, if she had known she would have lived that long she would have done it. It was one of her biggest regrets. She tried to have it in her mid to late 80’s but she had left it too long.
Rori - it looks like a wonderful trip.
Kylia - I’m sorry your DH is blaming you for everything. I hope he soon sees the error of his ways.
That is awesome seeing a hot air balloon land so close. We had that happen the first summer we lived in Edmonton it landed right across the street.Well it’s 930 I should head to bed.Tracey in Edmonton

Hi Gals,
Pip – Happy Late Birthday!!!! I am sad to hear about Yogi, I had a traveling Vet come in with one of my dogs it is so much better! I feel like yogi is part of our group here and will miss him when he goes. You have such a great way with the training and making the pups part of the family. Yogi has had a great life thanks to you and Kirby.
Sue – sorry to hear about kitty. I must say 18 years is a long time! You must be a great kitty mom.
Heather – great pictures! There should be one with you in John’s cap too!
Barbie – I need to do labels on iris also!
Beth – a phone and mattress on the same weekend – those two plus a bathing suit and a bra would my idea of shopping H E double toothpicks. LOL
Welcome Mandy!
Lisa – I make meat balls with the onion soup also pre- cooked and individually frozen is a great option. Saved me from a wrong decision many a time.
Wardrobe – I keep mine simple and smaller than I really want it to be – but I am slowly adding a bit to it when I can. I find it hard to find styles that fit; look the way I want them too and are affordable. We have a few great thrift stores but no fitting rooms and no returns. That makes it hard to commit. I can wear a snug T shirt with a over shirt for trying on a top, but am not willing to try pants on in a public place with just my undies. Although it happens all the time throughout the stores. I’m just too modest to do that. I did decide to make a pattern from a pair of shorts I like and with a few alterations I made a pair of shorts from some scrap fabric, and I am pretty pleased with them. I will change up the pattern a bit, I want the pockets to be bigger and will add a back pocket to tuck my phone in. Once I have the pattern “perfect” I’ll make 3 or 4 pair. I made it through last summer with just 2 pair of shorts and it seemed like I was always washing them. If I get it really “right” I might try to make a pair of capri’s or light weight long pants, I have made due with jeans year round for 10 years as I had not found anything else that fit and was affordable. Once I stopped working in an air conditioned office what I needed for clothing changed and I have never had a “score” with light weight pants. Granted the shorts have an elastic waist and I may not really like that for long pants but I’ll see.
This past week I spent Wednesday at my mom’s doing “caregiving” cleaning house, errands, making beds, dealing with mail. Then spent Thursday, Friday and Saturday at my best girlfriend’s home doing caregiving there while her hubby was at a family thing. About a month ago she was visiting a friend in DC and fell breaking 3 bones in her foot and a full tear of her ACL and a partial tear of her MCL (that is the ligaments that support your knee – the ACL tear is a typical knee injury for athletes) She will require surgery. But the details are yet to come, she has had x-rays and a MRI, but there are so few specialists in the area she is that the first appointment she could get is June 22, and then after that surgery will be scheduled. So she is on crutches and in a boot for her foot but non- weigh bearing so it is hard to get around, and impossible to carry anything. Her DH is great and has tried to help but guys don’t always do things with a female touch… so I did a huge list of things and all the cooking. 3 long days of caregiving. But it was great to see first hand the difference at the end of an exhausting day when you are appreciated and when you are not. My goal is if I ever need caregiving to appreciate and be kind to my caregiver.
Thinking of you all,
Kim in N. California

Hi everyone!
GodMomKim Kim I started making my own clothes because I want them to fit perfectly and I just couldn't find any. I'm not above going to the thrift store and making it my own LOL.
Just did my treadmill and now I'm getting dressed to go garden outside. DH has dug up around our fence and we're planting daffodils my favorite! Other than that it's been slow with the garden this year. It seems like we're having March weather here in Connecticut instead of May weather and I know we'll end up with it being steaming hot next month. So much for spring!
Happy memorial Day!!

Tracey Looking further into it your therapist agrees with the consensus. It is best to keep your hip in line with your hip or slightly below. I don't know why the nurse I took the posture class from thought differently. I will readjust my thinking. So far I only have a mild twinge in one hip. I do try to remember to do hip stretches. Losing the weight has helped too!

😀 Barbara, the cozy mysteries set on Cape Cod are by Maddie Day. You might also enjoy books by Ellie Alexander. Her series are set in Oregon and Washington.
