As I said I recently started cardio of 1 mile in 2 to 3 mph various incline of 0 to 3 to 6 and back down for 5 minutes each and total of 30 minutes and am gaining weight (4 lbs,) over 2 days. How is this possible? What am I doing wrong other than going from no exercise to cardio? Caloric intake has not increased.

Are you eating your exercise calories back?

Most likely its just the usual water/daily fluctuation -- I can easily gain/lose 5lbs overnight...
You didn't gain 4lbs of muscles in 2 days --- most likely its water retrention.
Do you watch your sodium? Did you add a bunch of sports drinks?

When you build your muscles, water tends to go to those spots affected.. If you are just starting out with cardio or strength workouts, you need to start slow...workout one day, take a day off, workout the 3rd day, take 4th off and so on...Give that a week or 2, then you can workout 2 days, take a day off and so on. Also, get in the habit of drinking a protein or whey drink after a workout...It helps with lean muscle... Also, you need to stretch...Make sure your stretching out those legs really good....
Also, keep in mind, as you workout, you will gain muscle..Get away from looking at a scale and go by what your clothes tell you...They give you the full story!
