Not me. I may eat more than usual, but it will be watermelon, salad with no or little dressing, lots of fresh tomatoes. Hard to go over calories.

No, this day means nothing to me, being in Europe.

I planned days ago since I pre-log days out, and plugged in 1200 calories for a neighborhood dinner. I estimate I came in at 1177, and probably overestimated at that.

Had a burger, and small sample spoonfuls of everything else. Split a small slice of fabulous homemade fruit lattice pie by a neighbor who is a well known chef, and split a small cupcake. It was plenty. Honestly, I could have easily eaten a whole pie, but there were 37 people, and three pies. Was kinda grateful there were only three because I still remember being obese and getting the side eye at a neighborhood event. No ”off” switch in those days. 😬

For myself, I think believing in cheat days is like believing in Santa Claus as an adult, sort of a charming, appealing myth.

Who or what would I be cheating? Food and eating aren't some kind of drama about good and evil. Food is good, and we need to eat some. Sure, if we routinely eat too much, there are bad long-term consequences.

Most days I stick close to my calorie goal, a little under or a little over, doesn't matter. On the rare day - especially on unusual special days - I may decide to eat above my calorie goal, even above my maintenance calories . . . once in a while, waaaay above.

It's a decision, that's all, not "cheating". I need to own the outcomes of my decisions. The majority of our days determine the majority of our results. The rare day - too much cake, working out for 5 hours, extra craft beer, whatever - is a drop in the ocean. The day-in day-out humdrum habits I follow on repeat are the ocean. Those habits are the power tool for weight management, so I focus there.

I don't aim for perfect, with the occasional so-called "cheat". I aim for pretty good on average overall. I'm in year 9+ of maintaining a healthy weight, after around 30 pre-loss years of overweight/obesity, so I think this mindset works OK for me - so far, anyway.

I didn't eat anything unusual or extra on July 4 this year, because I didn't have any special events on my calendar. Had there been an event with tempting goodies, I likely would've eaten more calories than usual.
