Gonna be having some drinks later this week due to family coming to town and lots of celebrating! Gonna try not to go nuts.

@tmbg1 you got this!! Have a great time with your family, always good to have a plan in place

Another AF day, and under my calorie goal. Considering I went over it yesterday with all those delicious butter cookies, I’m taking the win!
@tmbg1 have a great time getting together this weekend! I’m right there with ya- have some drinks but don’t go crazy.
@itlaydee you ’ll feel so much better once you have a plan in place for your sister. Hugs! Oh and also, I wish I liked beer too because all the NA beers are supposedly awesome. Dang. Oh and good luck packing for your road trip! I rarely pack light.

I take everything I can on any trip no matter what - a cruise, a road trip, glamping - you name it. A girl has got to have options and shoes and all the things! Have fun and enjoy the ride and trip @itladyee
You are doing great @Womona!
@tmbg1 enjoy the family time - you have a good plan to do both - enjoy yourself and stay mindful!
Thanks for sharing a photo of your gorgeous dress you’ll be able to wear soon - super pretty @NonnieDoiron4 -
I’m at 50/50 for the first 6 days of August. AF plans for tonight after a busy day ahead of lunch with friends and a Derm appt.
I’m already thinking of just getting into my pajamas early and cozying up to my book.
Also planning a simple N.A. birthday brunch for my elderly mom for Sunday with family. God willing she will make the 2 hr train trip on Amtrak on Sat. for one overnight and home.5 -
I used to be an "everything Chocolate" ice cream girl, except for Baskin Robbins pralines and cream. Then I got into Salted Caramel ice cream from a local dairy. But alas, I became lactose intolerant, and now I'm ecstatic if I can find Breyers Lactose Free Vanilla. I've tried the substitute cream types, but they're as appealing to me as that nasty NA wine. I'm just praying I won't ever have to give up my morning black coffee.☕️
Last night was the first night since I got my Garmin Smart Watch in January that it reported over one hour of "Deep Sleep." I don't know how reliable it is, I almost always sleep between 7 - 9 hours, but it's rarely classified as "good" by my watch.
So I'm going for another AF day.

@LittleSurferGirl7, sending prayers to you and your husband. I hope he recovers from the effects of the fall, and that he experiences no problems with that aneurism, that's scary. Best wishes on your choices today.

For those of you who DO like NA beer, I recommend, Fremont, Deschutes, and even Corona, depending on your tastes.
3 -
I'll bet a short term diet of ice cream and protein shakes will help people be AF more easily.
@Michieb125 really great advice - I'll check into the Orgain. And I use Vital Proteins chocolate flavor, half the amount daily. If I skip it for 2 days, the morning joint stiffness sets in bigtime. I take it with 500mg vit C and that is supposed to help with arthritis and it totally works for me.
I like powders pretty plain, no gums, fake stuff, low lactose. I have Truvani in the house and it's just OK. It lacks flavor intensity and a bit too sweet. Would only buy it when seriously discounted. Other days I am happy with plain Siggi's yogurt mixed with nescafe espresso powdered decaf or a spoonful of organic raspberry preserves.
@Womona vanilla ice cream is delicious with chocolate syrup or some pistachios or cherries or all 3.
@LittleSurferGirl7 I hope your husband feels better. Once I randomly and unexpectedly fell and fainted and landed in the ER and kept overnight and tested for weeks thereafter only to hear that it's most common to not know what caused it. They thought it was heat or low salt. I wasn't even drinking when it happened but it was after a cup of coffee. ER doctor says sometimes we just go ALT-Control-Delete. Yep he really said that.
Have a great rest of the week everyone - next time you feel like a drink maybe try something like a diet root beer with a scoop of real vanilla ice cream :)

Sure hope your husband heals quickly, @LittleSurferGirl7! That’s scary for sure. Prayers to him and you. I hate that it happened. BUT if it becomes your motivation for successfully getting the alcohol monkey off your back, then it may be worth the bit of pain he’s having to endure right now.
I walked today and we picked up 3 trash bags full of litter, could’ve done a 4th if I had grabbed another one. Oh well, tomorrow is another day, and I’m sure it’s not going anywhere. Added motivation to go walk tomorrow.
I have a doctor appt in the morning to get my hormone levels checked. I’m hoping she can tell me what stage of menopause I’m in. I’m tired of guessing. And to see if HRT would help me especially with weightloss.
Keeping it AF tonight.
6 -
@LittleSurferGirl7 so glad to hear your husband is doing better after his fall. Ouch, but falls get scarier as we age. Glad to hear he didn’t break or strain many thing. But I’m sure he’ll feel it for a few more days!
2 -
@NonnieDoiron hope your appointment goes well, and you’re able to get HRT! Also, good for you getting all that side of the road garbage. Not all heroes wear capes. Sometimes they wear gloves.
AF again tonight! We leave for vacation tomorrow, a week on Grace. I seriously need to keep it together with food and drinks while on the boat.4 -
hello… I’m new here so I hope I’m doing this right!
I have significantly cut my alcohol consumption down since my husband quit drinking 5 years ago! I don’t miss hangovers especially!! I feel so much better when I don’t drink… clear headed… especially making good healthy meal choices… I love this App and love this Community to chat on… 🤩8 -
Ah-HA! I found the August discussion!
(Thank you, @itladyee!
Hi everyone,
I've been off and on but now I'm back ON! I had no alcohol yesterday and won't today either, but I'm going to reset my Sober Time counter to August 8th, which is also "International Cat Day"! I love the "88" ("double infinity") combo! Also, my birth date is 8/18/58, but which time I plan to have 10 alcohol-FREE days completed.
Have a wonderful day!

Welcome @Debi1956 & welcome back @Walela617! We're really glad to have you here. Whether you're just looking around or hoping for some advice and support, this is a great space to find connection, encouragement, and hopefully a little laughter along the way.
I somehow managed to have no work meetings on my calendar today—for the second day in a row! This hasn't happened in about three years. Zoom fatigue is real, and this little break feels like an unexpected gift.
To make the most of it, I decided to invite my MLA out for a quick wine tasting this afternoon. A small escape to enjoy some fresh air, a change of scenery, and yes—a glass (or two max!) I’ll be pacing myself and switching to water (served in a fancy glass, of course) for dinner. Gotta stay classy and hydrated. 😉
Hope everyone’s having a smooth week so far.

AF-5Guardianship hearing for my son today went very well. We were awarded guardianship. There are a few things regarding his rights the judge did not rule on because he wanted a couple of days to think on it, but they are exceptions we are asking for from the typical laws and appears we would be setting a precedent. So, we’ll see what he says next week.
Went to dinner afterwards, and my dinner did not stay down. 🙁 Oh well, I guess I don’t have to count those calories tonight.🤣
Took the day off work today for the hearing, and I know there will be a ton of emails to wade through in the morning.
Going to lay down and watch tv I hopes I can get this sick feeling to go away. Good night all!

Mine is the Sunnyside App - I did the 15–day trial and stayed! You can also find their popular videos on YouTube.

Well, ironically since posting in here and recommitting to being mindful with drinking, I am yet to have an AF day. I wish I could say it's been mindful, but while it hasn't been horribly excessive, it's been driven by depression, frustration with work, loneliness and a lack on control. It's the weekend now and I have big social plans, but I need next week to be a better week in all ways, drinking and eating, because I feel like I am letting things slip in all aspects of my life, not just alcohol.
@NonnieDoiron I'm glad your hearing went well and I'm sorry you are not feeling well! That's a gorgeous gown and I think your plan to wear it is an amazing one.
@ itladyee I found some really cool "grown up" sodas that are just as expensive as a case of beer but feel like something super special when I want something different. My fav flavour is a lime and jalapeno one.

@Alatariel75 I completely understand the “depression, frustration with work, loneliness and a lack on control” as reasons to drink and drink to excess. I have been doing that for years, I had been doing well for a year keeping it controlled. But when I got this new position, I reverted back to old habits because of how stressful the job became.
But, I came back here to get my accountability and support. So, you’re in the right place. 🙂

Welcome @Debi1956 I hope you get all the support and inspiration you need from this wonderful group. We're glad to have you here.

@NonnieDoiron ~ Glad the guardianship went well for you. It's the thing that most don't consider. I have a friend that just went through this process for her son. Your stomach was probably just a bundle of nerves, I hope it all better now.
Welcome newbies… I'll catch up with all when I have more time.
Vacation is going well. Minimum A days but one was not so minimum :)

@NonnieDoiron SO happy to hear the hearing went well for you, sorry to hear you were so sick afterwards.
@itladyee I'm glad your vacation is going well, enjoy yourself for the rest of it!

I've been feeling this way myself lately, especially the last three you noted. I keep reminding myself that the A doesn't help, but then end up giving in the cravings anyway. Tomorrow is a new day and I plan to be AF for a few weeks now. The grown-up sodas sound like a win for you, enjoy!

AF-6Had 192 emails this morning from being out of work for one day. LOL
Started Monday on the new weight-loss journey, and so far so good. I’ve been under my calorie goal every day so far.
Anyway, going to enjoy to try to read a little this evening.

I’m debating on a wine night tonight. I am currently 2 and 6, but I cleaned house today and burned so many calories I could safely enjoy a glass or two without ruining this week’s weight loss efforts. But I did have a major hot flash this morning that lasted for quite some time, so I’m not sure wine would be my friend today. 🤔
I got on the scale after all the cleaning and before I showered and I was already down 5 lbs. I’m pretty sure that’s not accurate and probably a lot of water weight because I was sweating my @$$ off! But, we’ll see what “weigh-in Monday” says.
Probably won’t drink because 1) I’m trying too hard and the dress is still staring at me and 2) I’d have to drive to a store and get it. My feet hurt, and I’m tired. So I’m not driving anywhere.
Ok, calling it…
