LESS Alcohol ~ August 2025 ~ One Day at A Time

Wow, wish I could reason things out this well!!!
BTW - I don't think I mentioned how beautiful your dress is - can't wait to see the pictures of you in it in a few months.

From your lips to God’s ears, I’ll be in it in a few months! 🤣 Thank you. I loved the dress 20 years ago, and I still do. I have purged my closet so many times, and the dress always makes the cut to the stay pile because I love it so much and want to be able to wear it. When my husband mentioned in passing a vow renewal, I thought “if I can get in that dress for a vow renewal next year, it would be perfect!” So, I am on a mission! Hopefully, I can stick with it! Bestie is trying to do it with me, so I hope we can keep each other motivated.

I'm claiming an alcohol free and no sweets day today. I managed with a Barebells Chocolate Dough protein bar. I know it's got some questionable ingredients but it's not pure candy. Baby steps.
I believe it's important to do something that will make us happy each day, a planned intentional activity. This helps boost mood and begin to break the pattern of "need happy, have a drink" or "need happy, eat chocolates and sweets".
Also, rest more. I like my weekend naps. They reset me so I am balanced when I start the week.

@Debi1956, hi and welcome, @Walela617, @Alatariel75, hello again. I'm still a bit new here myself, my second month, but it helps me to check in and to remember, we all have struggles that can derail our best intentions for LA.
My brother was in the hospital with a potentially life-threatening blood condition from Thursday until this afternoon, but I resisted the urge to numb with wine. I allowed myself to eat double servings of vanilla ice cream instead.🍨 But I'm back on the mindful path of food and drink.
Hope everyone's weekend is going as planned.

@NonnieDoiron It's always nice to have a friend along for the journey - motivation and support. I know you'll get there by vow renewal time.

I love what you say here about doing something that makes us happy each day. After dinner tonight, during herbal tea time, I'm going to make a list of a few things to apply to that idea. Thanks for putting the thought in my head.
@nbruns83 Sorry to hear about your brother, I hope he's out of the woods and healing up. Kudos to you for resisting the urge to numb with wine, I'm sure your mornings were much more bearable because of that.

AF-8I overcame the craving for wine yesterday which was good. I have promised myself if I stay on track this week (no wine and under calorie limit every day), I can have no more than 2 glasses when we go to trivia night with friends on Saturday. However, it also depends if bestie decides to drink. If she doesn’t, I won’t either. Lately, she’s been dealing with some medical stuff, so she probably won’t drink which is fine. I won’t even buy it until Saturday if she says she wants to have a drink. Plus, I need to start limiting myself when she and her husband are here. I get carried away because we’re drinking together, and the liquor is flowing! (They drink the hard stuff.) So, that is my new LA goal. Just drink if she drinks and maximum of 2 glasses.
Week 1 of new weight loss effort down:
Looks pretty good to me! Saturday was a high calorie burn which is always the case when I spend all day cleaning my house. I wish I didn’t have to work, I’d have the cleanest house in the world just for the calorie burn. I would probably get my cabinets refinished faster too! 🤣 Now to see what the scale says in the morning!
Good job, @Walela617! Hope today will be be 48 hours!
@globalhiker and @SparkSpringtime69 do you have any suggestions of intentional activities? I doom scroll because I stop thinking about stuff, but I really need to stop that too because I think it’s messing with my sleep.

Hi everyone,
Almost completed three days AF. Will post milestone tomorrow. Feeling better already. Blood pressure coming down.

Have a great day,

HOT DARN!!! I didn’t expect that! 😁
Though this is cause for celebration, I’m still not going to imbibe today because I don’t want to mess this up!

@NonnieDoiron congratulations! Well deserved ☺️
Last weekend didn’t go as planned — I hadn’t intended to drink, but by Saturday, I threw in the towel. Instead of spiraling, I’ve decided to reset.
I’m now committing to staying AF until the weekend of August 22nd. A clear line, a fresh start.
Plans change. What matters is how we respond. Onward.

This is an outstanding update @Walela617 - be proud of yourself!
Your hard work is paying off @NonnieDoiron!
Great perspective @BurnMode05 - you aren’t going to let some temporary choices derail decisions for today. I’m right there with you!
Agree, those Barbells bars really do satisfy @globalhiker - so good now and then!5 -
@NonnieDoiron nice job!! I so fear the scale when I get home. I still may wait a few days!!!🥹

Over the weekend we celebrated my elderly mothers’ birthday at our home (including grandkids and great grandkids). It’s a lot for us due to her lowered stamina and always needing something. But she did it, we did it and it was nice - thank you God and Amtrak.
My intentions were good but I was particularly stressed listening to her talk about random people and repeating stories over and over that my head was pounding by 4:00 on Sunday. I dropped her off at the train for her return trip and when I came home I had two giant glasses of wine over 3 hrs. One was the Kendall Jackson low alcohol 9% and one La Crema white. At least it was a conscious choice! I was mentally exhausted so not the best idea in hindsight. Moving on!
Today I will be reflecting on what I want this week to look like. I know it will include less wine, fat and carbs and more protein, water and fiber. And exercise! Starting with a three-mile walk this morning and Barre tomorrow morning.

@itladyee I can’t weigh during the day or I get frustrated. I weigh first thing in the morning, right after I pee and take off all my clothes. It’s my true weight. Any other time, I get mad and dread getting on the scale after that. 😂
6 -
@NonnieDoiron Woohoo - 5.4 is awesome, nice work! (I weigh in the same way you do - am, no clothes, etc. LOL)
@Walela617 3 days for you - well done!
@BurnMode05 I totally agree with @Michieb125 - good job not derailing today's plans and committing to future plans.
@Michieb125 happy belated birthday to your Mom! Your reset plan sounds like a winner.

@itladyee and @SparkSpringtime69, thanks for your comments about my brother. The infusions of immune globulin and steroids, started working quite quickly, so they sent him home on Saturday with oral steroids. We still don't know the cause.
Saturday evening, the younger farmer who covered for my brother while he was in the hospital, came over that evening with two cans of Coors for DH and me. He grows malting barley for them and was celebrating a good harvest. He would have understood if I'd said, "No thanks or I'll save it." But I decided I wanted to celebrate with him. He works hard and I understand the meaning behind the beer. But it was LA only.
@Walela617, congratulations on those sobriety badges! They're pretty impressive and you deserve them.
@NonnieDoiron, That weight loss is impressive, you'll be fitting into your beautiful gown by your 20th, if you continue your good choices. Congratulations!
@Michieb125, Congratulations on both the planning, executing and post birthday celebration for your mother. Those milestones in an elderly loved one's life and precious but also very emotionally stressful. There's a lot more worry than with a typical 6 year-old's party. Two glasses are better than three. And you understand why, so that insight is positive.

Oh! Duh! Lol, I forgot you were on vacation. 🤦🏻♀️ (I’m blaming menopause since I can’t blame the wine😉)

AF-10Went to my new primary care yesterday and it went well. At least she listened! I have to go back this morning for the bloodwork because they said I was dehydrated because my blood wouldn’t come out.🫤 So, I’ve been on a mission to drink tons of water yesterday and this morning before I go back for the labs.
