How old is your son? If he's still a child, I would focus on eating whole foods (vegetables, fruit, whole grain, beans and a small amount of meat). Use the hand method to estimate serving sizes (his palm for a piece of meat, his fist for a serving of grain, and as much fruit and veg and you can get him to eat. If he's an adult, use a calorie calculator online to find an estimate of how many calories he should eat. (I would NEVER recommend calirie counting for a child).

So can you get a referral to a registered dietician who deals with diabetes needs and liver health…
Whole foods, not juiced, not pre-chewed that have the fiber in it - takes longer to eat and to digest which can help for diabetes and overall body health.
Food choices to include in meals and snacks can make a difference too.
As you find meals and snacks that work for your son and what he likes, keep those going and add more as you find more solutions. If he is old enough, involve him in choices so he begins to understand helpful eating.

I would second the recommendation to seeing if you can get a referral for a registered dietitian who specializes in diabetes/prediabetes, in children if possible.
There's no responsible way … just anyone on the internet… can tell you what to feed your still growing child that will help ensure they get the nutrients they need and also help to control their pre-diabetes/other health issues they have.
Like, general….lower carb, higher protein, fiber, whole foods, etc. But nothing specific - at least that'd be outside of most people's scope of knowledge. I'm sure that there is some way you can get some educational classes/referral for a more specialized/educated person to give this type of advice.1 -
Try a whole food diet siding on more protein than carbs. Young people it's mostly about eating junk (lots or refined carbs and sugar) which results in exactly that, pre diabetes and fatty liver, and if they are attached at the hip to social media, push them outside and make them move more. In the perfect world of course. 😉

Keeping meals balanced with fibre-rich foods and less sugar usually helps, though a dietitian can give you a proper plan for your son.

For a child with prediabetes, focus on a balanced diet rich in whole grains, lean proteins, fruits, vegetables, and healthy fats. Limit sugary drinks, processed foods, and refined carbs. Encourage regular meals, portion control, and active play. It’s best to work with a pediatrician or dietitian for a personalized plan.
