Hi again,
I'm having trouble editing posts on the MFP app, for some reason. I wanted to also thank those who showed concern by sharing cautionary stories about relatable conditions and circumstances. We grow and learn from each other! This is so helpful for me and I am very grateful!😊🫂

@Walela617 I don't know much about pancreatitis. But I do know it can be serious. Was it a sudden painful attack? Did you have to go to urgent care or the ED?
I don't believe I've told this story before. I live in a small town (pop 7000). There's a larger town not too far away. But, we were at our small grocery store. There was a man checking out (he was younger than me). We were third in line. Anyways, the man was talking to the checker. I have no idea how the conversation was started. But the man turned towards all of us in line and said, "I quit drinking "x" amount of years ago. I had pancreatitis and it almost killed me". It was weird because somehow, I felt it was directed towards me. You know…maybe from a higher power?
Recently, I heard something about the spleen. I haven't been watching You Tube videos or listening to podcasts, so it could have been on a TV show. I always thought that the blood clotting factors were exclusively produced in the liver. But I guess the spleen is involved in some way also. Pretty scary!
I've been worried for some time about my health, but mostly my liver. Your incident gives me even more reason to quit. When we start having medical issues, it's nothing to play around with.
Please keep up your good work. I'm there with you. And, congratulations on the weight loss! I've gained so much weight in the last year or two due to drinking. I would love to be under 160!
Take care of yourself!

Thanks so much to you too, @WestCoastGirl_7! My pancreatitis onset was not sudden, nor acute. I woke up with it following a night of binge drinking the day after

Oops! Sorry, @WestCoastGirl_7! MFP no longer allows me to edit posts on the app, for some reason. To continue, I noticed the pain accompanied by low fever, vomiting and diarrhea the next morning, but didn't I go ahead and do it again that night? It got even worse the next day and scared me. It continued through the next day. Fortunately, I had Friday off from work already, because I don't think I could have handled it. I suspected it right away because my brother had it years ago and it almost killed him. I know exactly where the pancreas is and I was sure what it was and what caused the symptoms I was feeling. (My brother doesn't drink alcohol anymore, though he is addicted to painkillers and Marijuana.) I looked online and immediately confirmed my suspicion that it had to be pancreatitis. I don't want to become a diabetic or something worse if I can prevent it. Every time I am tempted, I will remember this experience. I am not in the last bit tempted right now. I will miss the social aspect of it, but not feeling ill and not spending all that income either!
Have a nice night. I will plan to check in daily going forward, if at all possible.

Happy Sunday,
I remember you saying how much you like the Les Mills fitness programs @globalhiker! Body Pump is sooooo much fun. And of course the Body Balance is great for a different type of strength training. I love the music too - so very motivating and a reason I want to increase my gym time this fall.
By the way, I want to acknowledge your incredible journey to 365 days of no alcohol! I can’t believe it’s been a year (or just about). You have demonstrated over the last couple of years how hard work (understatement) is paying off. I really do respect and admire you so much.Getting ready for my husband’s knee surgery this week. I’m cleaning and washing today. But did complete my 3 mile walk again this morning and I still can’t cool down lol.

@Walela617 Thanks. I saw your first post and it seemed to drop off in the middle of the sentence. I have the app downloaded on my phone but I rarely use it. It's too hard to see (I have some vision problems) and my fingers are too big to type on a phone. I have voice to text on my phone (again I rarely use it), but I don't know if that works with MFP.
I'll have to Google it, but I really don't know where the pancreas is or what it does. Same as the spleen…I have an idea where it is. But I have no idea what it does.
I'm also aiming for AF for many reasons…health, fitness, and losing weight. But, since I'm getting older, I think about if there were an emergency with a loved one and if I was drinking I may be unable to help. When I was in my 20's or 30's, it wasn't something that I thought about. We were basically kids and we didn't have medical issues. Yes, the occasional mishap. But, nothing big.
Just keep doing your best! I have to go because my new kitty wanted my attention. So I'm holding him in on my chest and typing with one finger.
Have a nice night!

@Walela617, I do hope you'll be able to stay AF for a good long while. Acute pancreatitis is truly a warning sign. During our "pandemic happy hours," DH woke up after an indulgent day with severe pain, and went to his PCP that day. He had to fast, cut way back on dietary fats, and go in for blood tests every day for a week to make sure he was recovering. And he was strictly warned to drink no alcohol for 6 months. Fortunately, he was scared into compliance and made a full recovery. I don't want you to feel that I'm preaching or trying to scare you, but it can be bad. Praying for you.
@WestCoastGirl_7, Congratulations on your 3 days! What a great start! Sending you hugs and all my best wishes.
@NonnieDoiron, I'm glad you had a good day with your female teenager. I have absolutely no idea what the latest slang is and would probably need an interpreter. Parents who make the efforts are heroic - I think you're doing a great job from what she said to you. She needs a mom! I think that's why she didn't want you using kid slang. I'm going to have to search out what a wolf haircut is… I'm feeling old.

Late to the party. In addition to hoping you enjoyed your birthday, big hug on the pancreatitis! Glad to hear you’re already feeling better. Great job with cutting out the alcohol.

@WestCoastGirl_7 nice job on the AF streak. You must be so happy! Congratulations also in the two kittens. Won’t replace Tinker, but I’m sure you’ll enjoy caring for kitties again-even if their crazy energy is through the roof!
@NonnieDoiron glad you had a nice day out with your daughter. She may not be girly-girl, but that’s ok. A woman can look very elegant in a suit (when she gets older). Take heart, my son used to wear gym clothes everywhere, and of course nothing matched, he looked like a slob, etc. Thank God for his Catholic school uniform, at least he looked somewhat put together part of the time. Now that he’s an adult? He is a VERY snappy dresser. I think dressing weird is part and parcel of being a teenager. Meanwhile, I look back at all the very loud sweaters I wore in college and absolutely cringe. So we’ve all been there.

ugh MFP what is going on with edits and quotes? Grrr.
@tmbg1 nice stats!Welp, all my hard work last week, and I’m almost back where I started. 3.5 glasses of wine Saturday getting together with the girls, and 2.5 last night at a dinner party. My weight is up, but not by much, which I’m thankful for. Back at being AF this week, exercising and logging my food. I will get there yet, dammit! The big test will be Labor Day Weekend. I have GOT to cap at two drinks. Pray for me!

@Womona thanks for the insight. I really am hoping she eventually grows out of this. She really has ZERO femininity most days. Oh well, nothing I can do. She’s got to figure it out on her own.
Anyway, work was quiet then I realized I left my work phone in the car! And, I screwed up when running tests in our online system’s test environment and actually did it in our production environment. 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️ I would normally ease the embarrassment and stupidity with some wine, but I’m down 6.2 lbs this month and don’t want to screw that up. So, no wine. Just an apology email for my idiocy and an after hours phone call to apologize to the boss lady for missing her call.

AF tonight, and it’s getting easier to avoid a drink when I have some practice. I’m more motivated to rein my weight in. Weekends are proving to be my worst.
@NonnieDoiron all I can think about is Kiera Knightly in Bend it like Beckham. The mim wanted her to dress more feminine and all she wanted to wear were sports bras and soccer shorts.
4 -
I don't quite understand this thing about femininity. It may just be a southern thing. But I find it more desirable for a girl or young women to be themselves…to be confident, independent, athletic, fit and have their own goals and dreams. As I mentioned before, I mostly wear shorts and T-shirts. I believe I wore long pants when I got married (it was at city hall).
And as far as the teenage attire thing…think about it. Although, I may be older than some of you. But, when I was a teenager, kids were wearing bellbottom pants. My mom took me shopping and I bought a pair of flairs. That's what the kids were wearing back then. My dad had a fit and I think I had to return the pants. But, when all the other kids are wearing certain types of clothes and you're not, you feel like a misfit. And, as a teenager it is so important to fit in. Eventually, as we grow up, we develop our own style.
Also, when I was in high school, we all wore flip-flops every day of the year to school. I lived in So Cal, so usually that was fine. But, occasionally, the weather would be cold, so we still wore our flip flops with socks. Back then they didn't make toe socks. But we made it work.
Just my thoughts and memories!

Good Tuesday Morning!
As far as A goes, I seem to have this every other day pattern going on… I was AF on Monday, then last night, my husband made drinks while we attempted to watch The Bear. We just started season 3, and for me, it's tough to follow. It was filmed in Chicago, so my husband really wants to finish it. I've spent this much time, so hopefully it will take a turn for the better~
Plan is AF tonight and then book club on Wednesday. Family in town Thursday - Saturday so not sure what that might look like… aiming for LA at any rate.
@globalhiker When is your one-year anniversary of being AF?
@NonnieDoiron ~ I had flashbacks reading your post. Accidentally releasing live code in production, unintentionally or even worse, testing logic in production, "thinking" I was in test!! So glad those days are almost over! Congrats on 6.2 down~
@Womona ~ Good for you that it's getting easier. I hear you on the weight thing…I'm still chiseling away at these vacation pounds, and slowly they're dropping off. Very! I don't have much planned for Labor Day, so once our guest leaves…but then it's football season! I used to enjoy prosecco or other champagne (mimosa) during the game(s) on Sunday. I've got to figure out an alternative.
Hope everyone's doing well!

@itladyee my anniversary is this Sunday! Celebrating Labor Day weekend with a BBQ. I need to find some lower cal vegetable side dishes. Maybe also make a fresh tropical fruit salad, mangoes, pineapple, etc. I am undecided if I will buy single-serving fizzy rose french wines. It will be that or Italian gelato from a real Italian gelato shop here. Gelato is favored right now.
BMI has been stuck all August but it came down 0.1% this week. So little. But if I keep in that direction I will slowly get there. Been doing solid with limiting seed oils to 1-2x a month. It's been easy. This means no vegetable, canola or any product containing them (bye-bye tortilla chips, tacos, fried anything and processed salad dressings). I am though keeping the cheese and chocolate to myself.
7 -
I see September is Monday already. If anyone wants to do no alcohol September with me, let me know. September is the easiest time because late Fall starts holiday season.
6 -
@globalhiker I'll gladly join you in "No Alcohol September".
We used to watch the Food Network a lot years ago. It's mainly challenges now. But it used to be individual chefs all day long. Anyways, we've been grilling fruits and vegetables for years now. Bobby Flay grilled halved, pitted peaches, cut side down (I imagine he oiled the cut side a bit). We used to grill pineapple slices (oiled) all the time. It's a great side for chicken or pork. Asparagus and zucchini are easy to grill. Anyways it's pretty endless…just remember to toss your veggies in some oil first. We also grill corn on the cob (husked), but we don't add oil. I think I saw a show recently where they did coat the corn with some sort of butter mixture first.
As far as oils, I use California Olive Ranch EVOO and Chosen brand 100% pure avocado oil. There was a study done, I believe by UCLA. What they found is that it was the only one that was 100% avocado oil. Most others contained soybean or canola oil with a small amount of avocado oil. Avocado oil is very neutral and has a very high smoke point.
One more thing…I make Carne Asada tacos from time to time. But you don't have to fry the tortillas (we use corn). If you have a gas stove just heat them on top of the burner with tongs. If you don't have a gas stove, you can heat them up in a skillet. Healthier and no cleanup!
Well, I've got to go now. It's hard to type. My new kitty doesn't like me being on the computer 😕 He want's all the attention!
Have a great day everyone!

I've got a minute…the kitties are sleeping. One more thing about teenager's styles which is somewhat funny is, my husband is a few years older than me. And when the Beatles became popular in the US, my husband wanted to get a Beatles haircut. I guess all the boys back then wanted the look. Well, his dad said, "No boy of mine is getting one of those bug haircuts!". 🤣

AF-25I thought I was looking forward to the long weekend coming up. But then I remembered I didn’t clean bathrooms like I should’ve last weekend. So, I’ll be piling that on top of a bunch of other to-dos. I’d like to spend all weekend as a couch potato, but I guess I don’t get that luxury.
4 -
@NonnieDoiron hopefully you can chip at it between today and tomorrow to bang it out in time foe the weekend. May you get some Couch Potato time this weekend!
@WestCoastGirl_7 i had to laugh at the clothing and haircut descriptions. I remember all of that!
@itlaydee OMG I cannot imagine the damage control you had to do when the wrong code went out!
AF for me tonight again. I may or may not do wine night tomorrow at work. I’d like to just get home so I can head down to the boat first thing Friday morning.

MFP editing is making me cuckoo for Cocoa-Puffs.😠
@itlaydee thanks for setting up September. I’ll be there.
@globalhiker wow! One year on Sunday! If I miss you, congratulations on advance! I would definitely go for the gelato. Oh and you go right ahead with your chocolate and cheese!3 -
@Womona thank you - I've intentionally cut my calories this week so I can feast out this weekend. Actually, MFP just sent me a 8th anniversary alert. Can you believe I have been on this for 8 years? I don't.
@WestCoastGirl_7 I love grilled pineapple!!! glad you're joining me for Sept. - we're in this together.

Hi everyone,
