Tracey – what we do as far as giving out food is they just have it in these banana boxes and the people take what they want. This way, they don’t get things they don’t like. Truthfully, I’m amazed at some of the things that people don’t take. After everyone has been able to look things over, I might. I’ve gotten bags of apples, some really good fruit, things like that.
M – what kind of paint did you use that would protect the wood from the elements. Does it make the wood waterproof?
Kylia – there is one store around here that if they order food and it won’t fit in their refrigerator, they donate it. Pretty far from the expiration date too.
Lanette – yes, when J&C leave, they will take Ganon. But I do enjoy walking him. However, a dog’s schedule is very different from a cat’s
Barbara – one time I had such a pain in my (what I thought) my hip I was positive I was going to have to have hip replacement. Went to the MD. Turns out it was sciatica. She gave me prednisone and it went away. I couldn’t even exercise, and you know that’s saying something
Just came back from walking Ganon.
Went to bowling today then in the pool for a bit. Made salmon cakes for dinner. T, W, T, and F are Jess’ days to make dinner. She’s at the store right now buying pork chops for dinner tomorrow. I think MAYBE she's starting to plan. Today she gave me a list of the foods she needs. She has it planned what we'll have for dinner each night.

Machka: There must be a secret to the crawl stroke! I am a mouth breather and have weak upper arm strength. It takes all my concentration to swim the length of the pool doing the crawl! But I have been told I look like I can do the crawl! I will have to look into the Good Reads challenge! Work sounds busy!
Grandmallie: I hope you can adjust to the medication! I hope you feel better!
Lisa: Where do you sell your goods? I must have skipped those pages? I would like to take a peak? I hope the scheduled injection goes well. I think the term is co-parenting, but in some situations that is even harder to say than biological father!
RVRita: I dislike cooking meat in the oven! I hate cleaning the oven! So I am a de facto vegetarian!
Michele: Great you saw your grandson.
Kylia: Yes! A done list! What a wonderful idea! How are you at delegating?? I am not very good at delegating.
Barbie: I blurted out at a book club meeting that I often just read 80% of my books. The ladies looked at me and said nothing. Apparently most people do not do this. But truthfully, I just love character development and bringing characters into my life. And after a while I am ready to move on and meet the next character. I am just not that interested in the endings of books! I mean especially the fiction books! To me it is all about characters.
Lanette: I volunteer at a food pantry now. People I guess are so busy that when they are clearing out a kitchen for someone, they just put the cans in a box and drop it off at the pantry. Us volunteers check all the expiration dates. And the cans are often expired because this person with this kitchen has probably not been able to keep up the kitchen and the cans.
Margaret Turk: Great job on your weight loss!
Tracey: Great going having Michaela and Jonah over!
My book club enjoyed the book Boomerang by Robert Bailey. This is not my style book but it did hold my interest. There was plausibility to the plot and some action!
Earlier this year I lost 10 pounds via compounded Gpl1 injections. I gained 5 pounds of this back. So signed up for the Mayo Clinic Diet. I like this app. It was not too expensive. There is a Facebook group I plan to join. The food is similar to what I already eat.
The diet focuses on the macros and you have to hit a tab to see the calorie count. I have lost 3 pounds so far. Very difficult situation with the weight. Because I have eaten a 1200 calorie diet for several decades now. So with the injections I did go below 1200 calories a day. And of course eating below 1200 calories is probably not sustainable for me.
We have a zoom meeting about the cruise on Thursday night. I am excited! Finally! I have a friend that has done over 5 cruises and she has been texting me ideas of what to bring and what various people wear. She does not mention jeans. I think I might not bring jeans.
I have also looked at videos about what to wear in Italy and Greece. My impression is that fashion is rather important there. No baseball hats, shirts with insignias…like Braves Shirts..UGA …shirts! No shorts….no yoga pants or gym clothes. The u-tube videos seem to say Europeans do not wear their GyM clothes around town. LOL…the town i am in use to be rather formal…but many ladies now…including me..walk around in our gym clothes and yoga pants! No sweatshirts! No hoodies…nothing with a hood. I really didn't realize there was such a fashion difference between the two continents!
Best,

Rosemarie ~ That is interesting that you often don't finish the entire book you are reading. If I am reading a book and get involved in the story, I often skip to the very end to find out what finally happened.

😮😮😮
I'm all about the story. The characters could be a couple of stick figures … as long as there's an interesting story. I read a lot of mysteries and thrillers so they're certainly all about the ending. Others, like the Virginia Woolf I read, I really didn't care … I lost interest about 4 pages in. But I do like to finish books so I persisted till the end hoping something would happen. It didn't. I just finished reading another one like that for a Goodreads challenge … it was the only book I could get ahold of in the time limit and I was very glad it was short.
Australia tends to be a bit more dressy than Canada (and the US too, I presume) in many situations like going to school & work, going to the movies, going out to dinner or lunch, going to an event of some sort. Australia's a bit more like Europe (from my experience travelling in Europe).
There's a certain segment of society that will hit the malls in just about anything (in the last few years, clothes that look like pyjamas seem to be the thing), but I'm in a segment of society that attempts to dress up a bit when I go out … usually … unless maybe I'm in the garden section of the local hardware store.
Denim is popular here right now, in dresses, skirts and tops, especially. I have the dress in the picture and love it! So if you went with something like that in Europe, that would probably be OK. But it does take a little extra work to launder - it needs to be carefully hung dry.
Ordinary jeans are really cumbersome to travel with - heavy and will take forever to dry. If it will be warm, look at skirts (and leggings/anti-chafe shorts underneath). If it will be a bit cooler look at pants/capris etc. that are quick drying.
And no, you wouldn't walk around in sweatpants/shirts, yoga pants and the like! Not unless they somehow looked really nice. Those are for around home.

Actually, in thinking about it ... I haven't worn sweatpants in probably a decade. I think I still have some but I bet the elastic has gone crunchy.
Definitely haven't seen a lot of other people wearing them either.

I woke up from a bad dream about my son visiting and spent some time worrying about food for their stay. I am not good with uncertainty, and we do not have any plans laid down. We may go out, we may get takeaway, my other son may host a meal. 🙄 I chatted it over with John over our morning cup of tea, and I decided to take a trip to M&S to get some flexible supplies. Ones that can be eaten another day if we don't eat them, and things that are super quick to cook and serve if we are at home.
I texted my son and it turns out that they are now 'somewhat gluten intolerant', (glad I know that!), and not keen on shellfish and oily fish.
My son's partner is an excellent cook, part professional, and looks after her home with flair. She has never been to this house before. She is super nice, but I am more nervous than I am with people who are familiar with our place. I suddenly saw the duvet covers on the twin beds with new eyes. They are terrible quality, and were mainly bought from Amazon for when the girls come to stay. I decided to buy two new sets!
The only single duvet cover sets, that M &S had two of, were very expensive, but lovely. Textured white cotton. The big bag weighed a ton! I had a coffee then went to the food hall. I found everything I needed, to fit all parameters, but it was overflowing out of my wheelie trolley. Oouuff! I decided to get an Uber home, and the driver loaded and unloaded all my stuff. Success!
I feel much better now, and although I gave up a morning's writing, it was worth it. I also picked up easy food for tonight. 😁
Rosemary - Your list of no-no items was accurate, but I shouldn't worry too much. You will be amongst other tourists anyway. You are not trying to go incognito! Everyone will know you are American. But please, no baseball caps! Or loud logos. Smart/casual, classic, co-ordinated. At the seaside it will be more casual, and brighter colours. City wear is more subdued. You will be among people like you, so, be yourself, 'on a good day'. On Saga cruises we have several formal evenings, but my brother never went to any on his P&O cruises. You will find out the dress code on your Zoom. I am excited for you! 🤩

Talking about Sciatica, I went to the doc when I lived in CT the second time because I could hardly walk. Turned out to be bursitis. So now, I keep an eye on that. I found that I have less issues like bursitis or arthritis here in NM. I think the lower humidity is keeping me walking. Between arthritis, bursitis, tendonitis and all the other "itises" I find them to be better and more under control in the NM desert weather. Have any of you done a climate move like that and what did you think about your aches and pains?
DH's birthday tomorrow. He will be 72 years old. Amazing to me.

Hey, kids…
Carol - Happy Anniversary!
Rosemarie - Message in the spoiler:
I'm putting the link in a spoiler, so no one has to look at it if they don't want to, but it's very possible that MFP will take the whole post down or remove it, as they're not fond of people taking you off the site to any other site where money is made or asked for. If so, we can connect in some other way.
Heather - I hope it's a very pleasant time with your son and his partner. Try not to stress too much!
Machka - I'm so pleased you got the secret to swimming! Willing to share it? I've never learned the crawl stroke, either.
Really pleased to have time and mental space to write this morning. Slowed down to posting two or three times a week, and might devolve to a once-a-week post, but this is comfortable at the moment.
Spoke to Rebecca online last night, she'll probably drop in today sometime. She was feeling better.
I've got the dishwasher going with yesterday's dishes, and gearing up to make more dirty dishes. Got pecans and coconuts toasting in the oven, whole oats waiting to go in after those are done, and dried cranberries thawing on the counter. Making some Cowboy Cookies for Corey, since it's cool enough today to have the oven on for long periods of time! 👀😹😉
Once I'm done with y'all, I'll get some exercise in, either yoga or something else, and relax with crochet and YouTube in between cookie baking. Luckily, the oven has an annoyingly loud timer that I can hear from anywhere in the house! It's a half-day process, as the toasted bits have to get completely cool before adding to the mix, then everything has to be put together. Then nearly half an hour in the oven for each batch, as they're quite large cookies…
Hmmm, I need to fit some lunch in there, or brunch I guess, since I haven't eaten anything yet.
I've got everything else I need checked, and can make a double batch. I'm actually toasting double of that for the necessary oats and coconut, and will freeze half of each for the next one of these, probably in the winter. Makes things easier.
Off to my doings.
Love y'all!

Hey ladies, thanks for all the well wishes and concern, its been quite a rough time! I think since I started on my increased dosage of 5 mg zepbound I have become slowly impacted in my intestinal tract. They did a CT scan with contrast at the ER and said I still had some constipation. I had gone in with such pain in my abdomen! They gave me a bag of saline solution, plus pain meds, also a shot of morphine to quiet me down before the scan. I have zero tolerance for pain so all was scary. From the check in gal that pinched my arm doing the blood pressure (yes I have loose bat wings, be mindful!). I screamed with that one, which just started off crying from the get go. But all in all my state was so pitiful they had me in a bed straight away! Amazing no waiting in the waiting room. Granted it was in one of the "theater rooms where major stuff happens". It was a slow Saturday? I was given some anti constipation drinkable stuff and it was mostly iodine my husband said. I was also given hydrocodone which I take with a stool softener. I am weaning off that. I have Mirilax that if I don't have a bowel movement in the last 24 hours I take.
My video appointment with doctor yesterday went fine. He said he will put in for the 2.5 dose which I had no issues with. Looking back, not only did I start really tracking my protein and getting that 100 grams of protein, but the dosage increase probably didn't help me deal with the increase well. So eating more like when I did during May and June.
Getting back to my old self. My sister has had yet another traumatic experience. She had left at 10 am yesterday, returning at 5 pm to seeing her cat Hansel curled on her bed ice cold and stiff. Hansel was not old, had be fine that morning, ate well. She just doesn't understand it! When she returned from having to put Tucker to sleep Hansel was all over her, needing to be picked up. He normally stayed out all night, returning to sleep, eat in early mornings. Hansel slept with my sister all night since Tucker has passed. Did Hansel die from a broken heart? Was is something he had caught "out mousing"? Was it her husband Clair up in heaven saying, " thanks for letting me have my best mate Tucker, but he's missing his brother so I am taking him up here.....I have always wanted a cat". Its so hard to know. She is shaken to the core and last night after burying Hansel by the tub with flowers which was where he liked to cat nap, she called me and we both just cried. I thanked her for letting me love her animals, that they really were the reason I visited her. To sit on a toilet and be visited by a huge bear of a dog, (yes I will guard you, human). To sit on a toilet in the dark with a bear AND a cat that you pick up and hold like a baby, its paws curling around your hand... Well its an experience.
So today I am gonna attempt this plan. Feeling good about it.
Thanks Again ladies! Big hugs!

Got home yesterday late afternoon. Had just a little time to unload and rest just a bit before going to zumba last night.
The weekend was good- LOTS of driving and my hip/upper thigh area are NOT happy- guessing from all the driving which I am not used to. Normally I drive at most 15 min each way to either class or pick up my daycare girl. This weekend it driving to mom's Friday night after aqua zumba, helped at food program(mom drove) but when she was home napping, I drove up to visit my sister which is a half hour or so north of mom's, Sunday morning dropped her off at church in town then on up to visit my aunt before picking mom back up and driving home. Sunday rested for a bit then went to the garden to get all the veggies that were ready picked so she wouldn't have to do it. Yesterday I drove her to Santa Rosa for dr. appt and shopping, went back to her house before loading up and driving home.
It was a great weekend-lots got done. Had a really great visit with her. She didn't want me to leave. Kept thanking me for being there and supporting her(explaining her upcoming dr. appt. and what my plan is if the results show dementia) We pulled out the trust paperwork but, sadly, they are the old ones. She needs to find the combination to her safe because we think the current ones are in there. Found out I am executor but it shows they want the assests split three ways which means selling the property. I know mom doesn't want to do that if it is possible. Need to get the new trust and see what it says.
Visits with everyone went great, each appreciated me coming to see them.
Drive home was nice, no traffic, fire still going but heading east. I saw the glow from it on my way up and saw where it had burned when I drove home yesterday- It was a lot closer to the road than I thought it was.Dh is in the city with a friend. I had a dentist appt. this morning. Now I am sitting with a cup of tea and trying to catch up with you ladies.

Carol - Happy Anniversary! You were a beautiful bride! And looks like a nice meal out for you two. 😍
Machka - Happy Anniversary to you and Rowan as well! You are one busy gal. Spring is around the corner for you - any garden plans this year?
Rebecca - glad your GI situation got fixed and that your doc will be adjusting your medicine. I'm a little confused - were you eating too much protein when you upped your dosage and so that wasn't good for your system? I wonder too if tracking fiber important. Maybe it causes problems at this stage. I'm so sorry to hear about your sister's cat. What a shock, I'm sure she's devastated. 😥 So glad you were able to talk to her and that you knew and loved her "extended family." That photo of them together is precious - I bet they went over that rainbow bridge and are with their dad again.
Debbie - glad your weekend went well, sounds like you got a lot accomplished at your mom's. Hope the trust can be found without much hassle. Hope your hip/upper thigh gets better fast! Could it be bursitis like Rita had?
Collette was here this morning and got the house all spiffed up. Bonus- she saw the pile of stuff for the thrift store I had on the bed in the guest room and I loaded her up, lol. I should have taken a photo. She could barely walk out of the door, her hands were so full and she had stuff draped around her neck. She's having a garage sale in a couple weeks and said what she can't use, she'll just sell or give away, and I told her that's fine with me and come back for more.😁
I decided to climb on the mower after she left and get the front lawn's dandelion crop taken care of. It's 80% puff balls now, but some yellow stragglers are still appearing and I hopefully cut their lives short. The neighbors are probably happy, lol. It was 72F when I started and 78F when I finished 30 minutes later. It's 85F right now, heading toward 90. It's humid so feels hotter. Ack. I'm ready for Halloween and football games.

Afternoon ladies
Im taking it easy, think I might go to the ER tomorrow afternoon after taking Doris for bloodwork. Yale called and they messed up one of the blood panels so it has to be redone.
Lately I've been having shortness of breath and tremors about and low blood pressure and I think my sensor for my CGM has been really low so I'll drive myself down. To Yale emergency as my cardiologist and transplant team are both there

At the food bank/food program I help at when I visit mom, the people come through the line and are offered items. It is their choice if they want to take it or not. Some take what ever they want, some turn down some or a lot of what is offered and then there are some that try and take more than is offered. We have limits so everyone can get some. Certain people try each time. The pretend not to understand. We will give a little extra if we see we won't run out.
On Saturday, we served 220 families. They get meat, dairy, canned goods, condiments, fruit, veggies, bread and desserts. Most leave with two banana boxes full of items.
Some weeks is a bit leaner than others but there is enough, if used, to feed the family for the week.
There are other food bank/programs in town that are open other days of the week.
Mom works the dessert table so doesn't fill her own box-has one of the guys do it. So, there are things she doesn't use but that is ok. Some things I can use extra of(peanut butter, tuna, mac and cheese)or the guy that lives in her garage can use. I get my own box and pick what I can use or what my son will use. Thrilled when I got a big jar of PB as I was about out. They were donated huge pork loins- gave one to each worker that wanted one- huge in at least 10lbs, maybe more- barely fit in my freezer-almost 3ft long. I will thaw it and cut it up and share with son and my friends.
We don't always get nice meat like that but there is always at least two small packs of meat.4 -
Thank you for sharing that- love it~~

Grandmallie: Safe travels to you! My aunts are still driving on the highway in their 90s. Myself, I don't do it much anymore. But in New England it seems to be part of the life style. I hope you feel better. I wish you could go to a local LabCorp if you are just going for the blood work. I hope an MD meets with you!
LOL: My husband once left i-95 so he and my son, in his early teens at the time, could visit a Bugatti dealer! The sales reps were very nice…to the both of them. And I always appreciated this.
Lisa: I received the site! Thank you! I have it book marked!
Heather: I hope I am with Americans. There are 11 of us going! I have already booked my excursions. I guess I could change. but won't the cruise be mostly Europeans. It leaves from Rome?? I don't see any formals in the evening. There is a comedy show I saw.
I took a cruise in the 80s but it did not have excursions…we did windsurfing and snorkeling on the beach. Everyone was in their 20s.
I did a trip to Ireland in the 80s…I was quite cold on the plane over..of course I was quite thin! That trip had excursions and was much fun! Americans really like gift shops! At least in the 80s!
I am less stressed than before my trip to the Southeast coast of the US in May. I think the house is in better shape now. So I am more at peace.
Machka: I love the denim dress! It is a good thing I am researching clothes! In some settings I seem over dressed and others i am not casual enough! I read to dress like an onion…in layers! October is not an easy month to judge the weather!
I don't see sweat pants among women here any longer..all yoga pants and stream lined pants! But I went to a book club recently where the women were in tee shirts and sweat shirts. But a few had gold on! I noted that and smiled!
Will catch up more later!
Best,

😀 Carol, Happy Anniversary,
😍 Allie, Hope you feel better soon.
😀 Hooray for me I went to the dentist this morning and left Annie at home. She was a very good girl but was beside herself with delight when I got home. Besides the cleaning, they did x rays and the dentist looked at my teeth and said maybe next year he'd consider extraction of my other wisdom teeth.
😀 Another hooray for me. With the help of two YouTube videos and my own best thinking I found out how to use the battery powered hedge trimmer. I cut back the lavender plant and it was easy.
😀 I got a letter from the Toyota dealer that something needs to be upgraded in the computer in my car so I made an appointment in two weeks. That will require leaving Annie home longer than she's been left before. Baby steps to new behaviours.
😀 I wear jeans all the time with shirts of various weights and sleeve lengths depending upon the weather. They are comfortable for me no matter what I do. I don't go anywhere that requires "dress up" clothes so they are perfect.
