Rosemarie ~ That is interesting that you often don't finish the entire book you are reading. If I am reading a book and get involved in the story, I often skip to the very end to find out what finally happened.

Barbie: I blurted out at a book club meeting that I often just read 80% of my books. The ladies looked at me and said nothing. Apparently most people do not do this. But truthfully, I just love character development and bringing characters into my life. And after a while I am ready to move on and meet the next character. I am just not that interested in the endings of books! I mean especially the fiction books! To me it is all about characters.

    😮😮😮

I'm all about the story. The characters could be a couple of stick figures … as long as there's an interesting story. I read a lot of mysteries and thrillers so they're certainly all about the ending. Others, like the Virginia Woolf I read, I really didn't care … I lost interest about 4 pages in. But I do like to finish books so I persisted till the end hoping something would happen. It didn't. I just finished reading another one like that for a Goodreads challenge … it was the only book I could get ahold of in the time limit and I was very glad it was short.

Australia tends to be a bit more dressy than Canada (and the US too, I presume) in many situations like going to school & work, going to the movies, going out to dinner or lunch, going to an event of some sort. Australia's a bit more like Europe (from my experience travelling in Europe).

There's a certain segment of society that will hit the malls in just about anything (in the last few years, clothes that look like pyjamas seem to be the thing), but I'm in a segment of society that attempts to dress up a bit when I go out … usually … unless maybe I'm in the garden section of the local hardware store.

Denim is popular here right now, in dresses, skirts and tops, especially. I have the dress in the picture and love it! So if you went with something like that in Europe, that would probably be OK. But it does take a little extra work to launder - it needs to be carefully hung dry.

Ordinary jeans are really cumbersome to travel with - heavy and will take forever to dry. If it will be warm, look at skirts (and leggings/anti-chafe shorts underneath). If it will be a bit cooler look at pants/capris etc. that are quick drying.

And no, you wouldn't walk around in sweatpants/shirts, yoga pants and the like! Not unless they somehow looked really nice. Those are for around home.

Actually, in thinking about it ... I haven't worn sweatpants in probably a decade. I think I still have some but I bet the elastic has gone crunchy.

Definitely haven't seen a lot of other people wearing them either.

I woke up from a bad dream about my son visiting and spent some time worrying about food for their stay. I am not good with uncertainty, and we do not have any plans laid down. We may go out, we may get takeaway, my other son may host a meal. 🙄 I chatted it over with John over our morning cup of tea, and I decided to take a trip to M&S to get some flexible supplies. Ones that can be eaten another day if we don't eat them, and things that are super quick to cook and serve if we are at home.

I texted my son and it turns out that they are now 'somewhat gluten intolerant', (glad I know that!), and not keen on shellfish and oily fish.

My son's partner is an excellent cook, part professional, and looks after her home with flair. She has never been to this house before. She is super nice, but I am more nervous than I am with people who are familiar with our place. I suddenly saw the duvet covers on the twin beds with new eyes. They are terrible quality, and were mainly bought from Amazon for when the girls come to stay. I decided to buy two new sets!

The only single duvet cover sets, that M &S had two of, were very expensive, but lovely. Textured white cotton. The big bag weighed a ton! I had a coffee then went to the food hall. I found everything I needed, to fit all parameters, but it was overflowing out of my wheelie trolley. Oouuff! I decided to get an Uber home, and the driver loaded and unloaded all my stuff. Success!

I feel much better now, and although I gave up a morning's writing, it was worth it. I also picked up easy food for tonight. 😁

Rosemary - Your list of no-no items was accurate, but I shouldn't worry too much. You will be amongst other tourists anyway. You are not trying to go incognito! Everyone will know you are American. But please, no baseball caps! Or loud logos. Smart/casual, classic, co-ordinated. At the seaside it will be more casual, and brighter colours. City wear is more subdued. You will be among people like you, so, be yourself, 'on a good day'. On Saga cruises we have several formal evenings, but my brother never went to any on his P&O cruises. You will find out the dress code on your Zoom. I am excited for you! 🤩

Talking about Sciatica, I went to the doc when I lived in CT the second time because I could hardly walk. Turned out to be bursitis. So now, I keep an eye on that. I found that I have less issues like bursitis or arthritis here in NM. I think the lower humidity is keeping me walking. Between arthritis, bursitis, tendonitis and all the other "itises" I find them to be better and more under control in the NM desert weather. Have any of you done a climate move like that and what did you think about your aches and pains?

DH's birthday tomorrow. He will be 72 years old. Amazing to me.

    Thought for the Day:

What comes once in a minute, twice in a moment, but never in a thousand years?

    Hey, kids…

    Carol - Happy Anniversary!

Rosemarie - Message in the spoiler:

    https://goimagine.com/lisahannonmaker/

I'm putting the link in a spoiler, so no one has to look at it if they don't want to, but it's very possible that MFP will take the whole post down or remove it, as they're not fond of people taking you off the site to any other site where money is made or asked for. If so, we can connect in some other way.

Heather - I hope it's a very pleasant time with your son and his partner. Try not to stress too much!

Machka - I'm so pleased you got the secret to swimming! Willing to share it? I've never learned the crawl stroke, either.

Really pleased to have time and mental space to write this morning. Slowed down to posting two or three times a week, and might devolve to a once-a-week post, but this is comfortable at the moment.

Spoke to Rebecca online last night, she'll probably drop in today sometime. She was feeling better.

I've got the dishwasher going with yesterday's dishes, and gearing up to make more dirty dishes. Got pecans and coconuts toasting in the oven, whole oats waiting to go in after those are done, and dried cranberries thawing on the counter. Making some Cowboy Cookies for Corey, since it's cool enough today to have the oven on for long periods of time! 👀😹😉

Once I'm done with y'all, I'll get some exercise in, either yoga or something else, and relax with crochet and YouTube in between cookie baking. Luckily, the oven has an annoyingly loud timer that I can hear from anywhere in the house! It's a half-day process, as the toasted bits have to get completely cool before adding to the mix, then everything has to be put together. Then nearly half an hour in the oven for each batch, as they're quite large cookies…

Hmmm, I need to fit some lunch in there, or brunch I guess, since I haven't eaten anything yet.

I've got everything else I need checked, and can make a double batch. I'm actually toasting double of that for the necessary oats and coconut, and will freeze half of each for the next one of these, probably in the winter. Makes things easier.

    Off to my doings.

    Love y'all!

At the food bank/food program I help at when I visit mom, the people come through the line and are offered items. It is their choice if they want to take it or not. Some take what ever they want, some turn down some or a lot of what is offered and then there are some that try and take more than is offered. We have limits so everyone can get some. Certain people try each time. The pretend not to understand. We will give a little extra if we see we won't run out.
On Saturday, we served 220 families. They get meat, dairy, canned goods, condiments, fruit, veggies, bread and desserts. Most leave with two banana boxes full of items.
Some weeks is a bit leaner than others but there is enough, if used, to feed the family for the week.
There are other food bank/programs in town that are open other days of the week.
Mom works the dessert table so doesn't fill her own box-has one of the guys do it. So, there are things she doesn't use but that is ok. Some things I can use extra of(peanut butter, tuna, mac and cheese)or the guy that lives in her garage can use. I get my own box and pick what I can use or what my son will use. Thrilled when I got a big jar of PB as I was about out. They were donated huge pork loins- gave one to each worker that wanted one- huge in at least 10lbs, maybe more- barely fit in my freezer-almost 3ft long. I will thaw it and cut it up and share with son and my friends.
We don't always get nice meat like that but there is always at least two small packs of meat.

    😀 Carol, Happy Anniversary,

😍 Allie, Hope you feel better soon.

😀 Hooray for me I went to the dentist this morning and left Annie at home. She was a very good girl but was beside herself with delight when I got home. Besides the cleaning, they did x rays and the dentist looked at my teeth and said maybe next year he'd consider extraction of my other wisdom teeth.

😀 Another hooray for me. With the help of two YouTube videos and my own best thinking I found out how to use the battery powered hedge trimmer. I cut back the lavender plant and it was easy.

😀 I got a letter from the Toyota dealer that something needs to be upgraded in the computer in my car so I made an appointment in two weeks. That will require leaving Annie home longer than she's been left before. Baby steps to new behaviours.

😀 I wear jeans all the time with shirts of various weights and sleeve lengths depending upon the weather. They are comfortable for me no matter what I do. I don't go anywhere that requires "dress up" clothes so they are perfect.
