After work went to WalMart because Jess wanted green onions. Personally, if it were me, I would have used white onions because that’s what we have. Last night when she bought the pork chops, she also got a package of brand name ranch dressing because the one I had was the store brand. She said she didn’t want the “cheap” stuff. I told her “you want to save money, well, this is one way” Honestly, many times the store brands are just repackaged name brand things.
Rosemarie – please let me know what your friend suggests you take on the cruise. Remember I told you that Jess gave us a cruise? Well, I’ve never been on one so I have no idea what kind of clothing to take.
Rita – happy birthday to you dh
Carol – what a beautiful bride you were with that handsome guy
Rebecca – oh dear, my heart breaks for your sister. Words just will not suffice.
Allie dear – when it rains, it pours. Please take care of yourself
deb – talking about how people can pick and choose at your foodbank reminded me of an incident we had. Many times when it’s someone’s birthday/anniversary we give them a cake. Well, one day this boy who was probably around 4 comes up and tells us it’s his birthday. L said to the mother “I understand it’s your son’s birthday today”,. The mother says “no it’s not. He just wanted the free cake”. 4 years old and he’s already working the system :)
Went to ceramics then took Ganon for a short walk. I sadly don’t think I’ll take him any more in the evening. He pooped and I had a hard time finding it to pick it up.

Lisa - I am glad I found this mechanic as well. He has a motto for his shop that he’s now opened, before he worked out of his home, the motto is “we make it safe at a price you can afford”. He quit working at dealerships for the same reason as my brother and he knows anything I’m told I will get my brother’s input on.
I truly believe we need a tradesmen in every trade that we can trust and depend on.Machka - what’s the secret? Do tell. I haven’t worn sweatpants easily since 2000. I never was the biggest fan of them anyway. I see they are filling the racks here for the Fall Season. I don’t like it at all.I don’t like a pullover hoodie but wear zip up ones. I do have a couple of pullovers with hoods, but a polyester type material not sweatshirt material, they are also long, cover my butt so I will wear them with leggings out.
Rosemarie - I agree with you about the characters. I do read the endings but o really enjoy getting to know the characters. I miss well developed characters when the books end. It’s one reason I go back and reread most of Nora Roberts books
Margaret - I love the photo!
Rita - the woman that we bought our trailer from moved to Mexico because of the climate. She had rheumatoid arthritis from the time she was 14, she moved there when she was 36-37 because she couldn’t handle winters here.
My other friend that sold her house to live in her camper moved to BC because of the milder climate and found relief from her Renaud’s and arthritis and bursitis.Rebecca - so happy to see you post. Sorry to your sister what losses.
Debbie - I’m glad you had a nice visit.
Maybe a locksmith could be called for the safe.Allie - is there no one that can drive you? You do so much for everyone I would be worried about you not feeling well and driving yourself. Drive safe and love to you. I hope they can find some answers.
Well I bought a car. A 2022 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk edition. I told them I would not accept a payment higher than 250 biweekly, and I got this for 251.87 but it comes with a three year warranty for a bunch of things that aren’t normally covered, like oil changes, fob replacement, windshield repairs….

Hello Friends;
I had laryngitis during my entire work stretch. My boss said hello, and I waved in return. So she asked how the Night was, and I whispered, 'Okay.' Then she realized that I lost my voice. She planned for us to have Lattes and pastries to get to know her. Yet, she was talking with her leadership team instead of getting to know us. It was a waste of time. Then on Friday, we had a staff meeting. Why couldn't we have the staff meeting on the day she had the pastries? I did mention that the new pump alarms are difficult to hear. Then told them that the vent alarms are delayed.
We have toddlers who are taking themselves off the vent. I hope they fix the problem with the vents because we have many vents, and most of the kids are two or younger on the vents. At their age, they do what they want and smile because they know it is a No-No. Some are agitated because there is water in the tubing. Ultimately, we need to identify who is in danger so that we can save them. These children are not accompanied by their parents. Some have to work or have other kids at home. Some haven't been in for months. So, it is up to us to be a stand-in for parents to them. One parent came to stay the Night, but was on the couch, talking on the phone instead of visiting with her baby. So, I bathed her, performed her trach care, and put on her PJs, playing lullaby music to help her fall asleep. I read a story at bedtime to help her fall asleep. She loves books. When the baby was playing, she told the person on the phone that she was "bad." What is wrong with these parents? Baby girl is a good baby.Anyway, I am on a staycation now, but I'm sick. I have been coughing up green stuff. So, I took a friend's advice and got a medicine ball from Starbucks, and it was pretty good. The next time I asked what was in it, I told them to hold off on the lemonade. I added Crystal Light lemonade to the mixture, and it turned out well. My voice is improving now. My sciatica was acting up along with my lower back. I had to rub my essential oils on my upper thigh and lower back. I felt so much better.
Rebecca, I am so sorry that you had to go to the ER due to impaction. I had problems like that. Linzess has been wonderful along with Miralax and Milk of Magnesia. I also take Senokot, and my symbiotic. I get constipated so easily. I am so sorry about the loss of the cat, too, for your sister. Hug your sister for me. Is she ready for a new fur baby to keep her company?
Happy belated anniversary to Machka and Rowan.
Happy Belated 56th anniversary to Carol and her DH.
Lisa, your grands are so cute! I love your new website. Great job.
Good Night for now.

Well it's six am here and my Dad just gave me a lovely pep talk about supporting me through college. I struggled through my first degree with mental issues, but that was forty years ago. Since then I have been wildly successful at three more degrees, after I left home. And now I am retired and college is so over. So why am I letting his ramblings provoke old feelings of inadequacy?
I'm surprised that his mind went to my education. He's normally more sexist than that. But he wants so badly to be helpful, particularly in exchange for me driving and running the kitchen. But it isn't like him to consider my desires.
He usually keeps conversation very surface level, so this was a rare glimpse into his thoughts. At least it wasn't morose. Just out of touch.
Anyway, life goes on. I bought a lottery ticket, maybe if I win I might go back to school.
More later,

Machka: I love the denim dress! It is a good thing I am researching clothes! In some settings I seem over dressed and others i am not casual enough! I read to dress like an onion…in layers! October is not an easy month to judge the weather!
Here are some ideas for Autumn 2025.
In the link below, there are some I like and some I don't … but I do like this one. I'm really pleased to see it on the list because I've got similar in my wardrobe.
I'd have a lightweight jacket or cardigan with it … the layered thing.
If it's quite chilly, I might go with a lightweight long-sleeved pullover plus the jacket or cardigan … layering.
This one has some nice ideas:

Good morning !
Weight the same. Not up. Not down. Did buy two new pairs of Levi's to fit.
Rebecca- Glad you are mending. Hugs for your sister. What a shock! Tory has decided that my toes taste good. She is so funny.
Rosemarie- Delegating is not my strong suit.. Just saying. Team projects probably also not a strong suit. Somehow I always ended up doing all the work in school. I am glad to hear the excitement for your trip. When I travel it is mainly dresses with bike shorts for chafing protection as Machka said. I will normally take one pair of jeans depending on weather as I hate to be cold. Comfortable walking shoes (I like Superga tennis shoes) , one pair of heels, and a pair of sandals. Since I often head to the mountains there is usually a pair of cowboy boots as well. Layers are important. As I said, I am really opposed to being cold.
Allie- I hope you get some answers.
One of my magazines has an interview with Rod Stewart. At 80 yo he still swims underwater the length of the pool! Frank Sinatra told him strong lungs equalled better stamina so swim underwater.
I have no idea what this plant is. My mother in law had them for years. These are starts from her plants that my sister in law gave me 5 years ago. Last year SIL told me one of hers had flowers. We both thought that strange as in 20+ years we had never seen one of mom's flower . This year one of mine has flowered. I have found joy in my flowers, cats, and hummingbirds this year.
Machka- I like that outfit too. I liked most of the ideas except for....the bloomer pants. I may or may not have worn a pair or two of harem pants back in the day, but that was short lived. I will say that a lot of the dresses and tops I saw while buying my jeans were styles I or my mom wore in the 70's. Just saying....
I once had a customer tell me he could always tell where the plane he was on was going to by the way folks dressed. In Europe people took pride in how they presented themselves. Coming back to USA, it was all about personal comfort (ie pajamas). I want stylish comfy.
Gotta get ready for work.
Healing thoughts and hugs!
Much love,
Kylia in Ohio

Machka: How interesting about the crawl stroke. I was taught to take the breath when I raised my elbow out of the water. This is indeed something new to try. I will have to watch a video of the Olympic swimmers and see when they breathe!
I love the clothes and outfit that you liked! the pants are a little pricey but the Walker knit top would be okay. It does have a slit on the sides that goes higher than what my figure can pull off now a days! Maybe I could stitch the slit up! i will have to think about it!
The other link was interesting as well! For some reason…maybe being an American…it never occurred to me that the fashion was rather different in Europe. I guess I thought there would be tee shirts and caps and sweatshirts with various soccer team names or college names on them! I have watched some Emily in Paris on Netflix! And enjoyed the fashion on the show.
i have not worn a dress since my Father's funeral in 2008. I have thought about buying one! Someone told me about cocoon dresses. I didn't even know what that was. I had to Google it! I wore a pant suit to my son's wedding.
Kylia: What a beautiful plant! Last year I was suppose to set up a plan to have people make the coffee/purchase pastries for the adult ed at church. Well I made the coffee all year and purchased donuts. It seemed easier than someone not showing up who agreed to make the coffee! i wonder how I could do better?
Frank Sinatra and Rod Stewart would laugh with me! For the life guarding test I was suppose to swim to the bottom of the pool and pick up a block or something and swim back to the other end of the pool. I picked up the pool drain! So I had to swim to the bottom of the pool 2x!
Annie: Yes! Go back to school! I go through those phases. I even looked at the Fall 2025 course offerings at the local college! I would want a live course so I could walk along the campus as Fall sets in! My parents also keep/kept conversation very, very superficial. My mother talks about the weather….not as a social construct…she really loves weather as a subject of interest! I could easily miss a tornado watch or upcoming rain storm. This has been going on for decades. As have conversations about Columbo and Perry Mason!
I think your Dad is sharing his love for you! And his concern for you! I think some of us of a certain age have trouble taking kindness and concern from men. If a woman were saying the same words, it would be considered bonding. 80's feminism has its draw backs.
Will read more later! Always plenty to read and absorb on the thread! Hope all is well! Fall is more in the air now!
Best,
Rosemarie from GA

I tend to look at the new fashions, then hit Target, H&M, and Kmart (not the US Kmart) for less expensive options.
I love dresses because they're so easy - pop on short leggings, put on the dress, and you're done.
T-shirts, caps and sweatshirts with team names aren't particularly popular here either. You might see them if you went to a sporting event and looked at the spectators. Or if people are digging in the garden. Maybe in a hardware store picking up DIY stuff.
I was looking around town today. There weren't too many people wearing jeans but the vast majority of the ones that were in jeans, were wearing nice business-wear tops with them. I could pick the tourists in the crowd! The family all in jeans and new-looking sweatshirts!!
My swim instructor is encouraging me to keep my arms straighter and not bend my elbows. More like this short YouTube:

My new guest bedroom linen. I'm liking it!
The family are back from Scotland. Edie is coming over tomorrow afternoon and Bibi on Friday. Yeah! :-)
Just a little bit to do, cleaning guest (my) bathroom. And putting excess fans and cushions in the loft. I will hide my memoir books, as neither of my sons have read them and I don't want T discovering stuff by accident this weekend!!!
Right now I have 15 year old harem pants on with a tight short sleeve t shirt! Nice for lounging around the house, but I wouldn't go out in it. I usually wear palazzo pants, or jeans, some kind of fitted different length sleeve t shirt, depending on the weather, and a little cardigan, or button up shirt as another layer. I stick to black, navy, or white, with an accent colour, like pink, red, or blue. I like to look 'put together'. I watch videos on chic dressing, French, Italian, smart British. Quiet, casual, elegance is the theme. But comfortable.
Really good plain white sneakers are good, or plain black. Lot of walking around on port days. I never wear sandals, hate my toes, but supportive ones are good. A dressier shoe for the evening. I wear Mary Janes with a tiny heel, that I wear for ballroom and line dancing.
I only wear dresses in the evening, for dinner. Usually plain sleeveless dresses with a little cotton cardigan. I have a small black leather bag on a long crossbody strap that I take with me around the ship. One glittery evening bag. One faux leather, smart black, backpack that I take on excursions. You need room for water, umbrella, sunglasses etc etc. Mine has side pockets for those.
All will be great!!!!

Morning, all,
Trying to type around my cat again. I swear, she oozes onto my lap when I'm not looking, and I figure out that my lap is suddenly 8 pounds heavier and purring. Funny girl.
Heather - The bedroom looks very minimalist and serene. You'll need to paint another large canvas to hang in the center, above the lamp.
Tracey - Holy crap, that Jeep is a pretty thing! Plus, you'll definitely be able to see it in the snow! 😉The incredible security of having a vehicle that is completely under warranty is addictive, I'll warn you. Glad they got the payments where you needed them and hope your insurance isn't too crazy.
Kylia - Google sez your flower is a Hoya carnosa, sometimes called a wax plant or porcelain flower.
Rosemarie - I love seeing you getting excited about your cruise. Always fascinates me how we all have so much in common, but are so completely different. Just the thought of dealing with what to pack to travel makes me want to go take a nap!
Allie - I'm so sorry, and I hope they can do something for you. I know it's so incredibly hard to be so tired for so long.
Annie - I think it was you that asked me if there was any symbolism in the feathers. The short answer is "No." The long answer is that I only planned to do the white feather, but it barely showed up against the background. So I decided to add a bluejay feather and a cardinal feather, as those are the birds we see most here. Didn't like the light and dark barred feathers of the jay, it unbalanced the overall, so I turned it into a raven's feather, but that was too dark, so I added a lot of pearlescent blue to it. Not symbolism, just painting until I got what I wanted… and, by the way, I never, ever, EVER reach what's inside my head. But at some point, I tell myself it's good enough, and I stop. And then I get used to it for a while and I'm OK with it.
I have every window in the house open, and it's gloriously cool outside, at 63 degrees (17C). The first time I've been able to have them all open in months. The rain will be back this afternoon, and all day tomorrow, so will have to close the windows at lunchtime, but I'm really enjoying the cool air. Feels like fall could actually show up!
My home injection is warming up to room temperature, and because I never know how I'll react, I have zero plans for today. But I was able to get a full ten minutes of aerobic exercise yesterday - yay! 😹 If I feel good this afternoon, I'll try to get in another ten minutes of yoga. I've GOT to get a plushier yoga mat, though. It hurts when my knees and my hipbones hit the floor, no matter how gently I place them.
Later, my babies, hope it's a lovely, peaceful Wednesday in your part of the world.

My friend who has sciatica and is receiving PT also got a referral to go to the Mayo clinic for her diet. It sounded like a great succession. Bottom line for her is eat real whole foods. No overly processed. Watch quality, amount, and timing. It reminded her of the diabetic diet they had for her mom. He suggested eat in balance, so if you have have protein , also eat a fruit/or veggie, and carb with it. Portion size does make a difference.
Some flowers to enjoy!
What I learned from her is I should have a protein snack with a small fruit or veggie before bed. My legs cramps might be coming from too long between last meal of the day and breakfast the next day. I tried a small banana with organic peanut butter last night and it seemed to help. So this might be a missing piece for me. This is more important to do for woman versus men.
I was very impressed and am cheering her on. She was going to take another long term subbing assignment but decided she was going to put her health first. I silently thought hallelujah! He said it would take a year to adjust to her new way of eating and it a process. I agreed!
This painting was from the fine arts building at the fair. Happy belated National Dog Day! It is inspiring me to try another portrait of Drew B. I love the lighting, background and detail this artist used in their painting.

Good morning my friends!
Rita and Barbara Yay weight loss! Slow and steady!
Michele Yay for Jess planning dinner!
Rosemarie often I read a romance for the cozy feeling of the developing relationship. Then at about the three quarters point, there is some sort of challenge to the relationship, and sometimes it is so contrived that I have to put the book down. The characters seem willing to give up over a misunderstanding. Or sometimes the plot gets too dangerous or intense. So I have a collection of books that I haven't finished, but I usually think I will go back someday.
Heather I get nervous about guests too. Those are pretty linens! But I'm surprised to not see paintings hanging in the room?
Carol Happy anniversary!
Lisa Yay for writing!
Rebecca glad you feel better. Sorry to hear about Hansel. Give your sister a hug from us!
Debbie Yay for a great visit!
Allie hope you feel better! I also would encourage you to ask for a ride.
Barbie Yay for a good dentist visit! And the hedge trimmer!
Kylia lovely flowers!
Tracey Yay for a new car! Glad you found something safe to drive.
About clothes - I found a pair of pants/leggings that stretch like yoga pants but are tailored like trousers. Pockets and a front crease stitched in. I found them with a generic search on Amazon then sort by customer satisfaction. Then you see things that everyone likes.
And my Aunt decided her arthritis was really sciatica, and found some stretches and exercises online that really helped. Yay! So she is off the walker, and almost back to her usual. I still worry about their situation though. She is 91 and caregiver for my 97 year old uncle.
Lanette my aunt was my mom's sister. They were young orphans and separated as children so they decided to live close as seniors.
Well I'm resisting buying new books until Sunday, so I picked up a Lucy Score that I never finished. Maybe it will be better this time.
May you all be happy, healthy, safe and free!

Tracey … great looking new ride!
Mo … sorry you picked up some crud …
Lanette … the bots are not deterred by my weird bee profile pic. Rats.
Husband is at the back surgeon's office to discuss recent MRI and how they should proceed further. Very conservative group so surgery is not necessarily going to be recommended at this point (he's already had 3 surgeries). He had blood work yesterday that shows his A1C and glucose is climbing. No surprise there given he doesn't pay attention to his diet, but his doctor is now talking about Ozempic. I suggested actually following a diabetic diet might be a better place to start. We'll see. He's a big boy who can make his own decisions.
I'm getting ready to attend a funeral this morning. My son's friend lost his father. Only 57. Never fully recovered from covid years ago and had several health issues (like diabetes) that were disabling. Sad.

Tracey ~ So glad you were able to get a replacement car! Like the photos.
Kylia ~ What a beautiful flower. I am sure Margaret or Lanette will know it’s name.
MO ~ Sorry about your laryngitis. I don’t exactly know what kind of hospital you are working in. Do the patients stay there for months at a time? I can’t imagine parents who do not come to visit and care about their child.
I remember that last winter you mentioned buying pants from Land’s End and today I ordered a couple of pair on Amazon and hope they fit. I did order one pair last winter but they sent the wrong size I had ordered.
Rosemarie ~ It sounds like you were very athletic as a young person…snorkeling, life guarding, and surfing. It must have been a wonderful time in your life. Now it is great that you are making the effort to find exciting things to do.
Allie ~ We are all worried about you! Please take care of yourself.
Annie ~ It’s strange to me that you sometimes seem unsure about yourself. If you have four different degrees, that says a lot about you and your abilities. As you travel through this journey with your dad and earlier with your mom I am sure that life has a lot of great new beginnings for you.
We had another incident Monday that is making us even more careful about everything we do. Husband mailed a bill he had to pay at the local post office. When he checked the bank statement, he found out that someone had stolen the check inside, changed the name it was written to and the amount from 2,000 to over 5,000. They then cashed the check. We are now dealing with getting the bank to cover the fraud.

Just found this thread. I also just retired in July. New to MyFitnessPal and have already experienced several friend requests from guys trying to meet me. I guess every community site has the potential to become a dating site....sigh
Thanks Barbie for the word "enough"... so inspiring for me both in dealing with my over snacking because I'm bored and handling life.
I'm a certified water aerobics instructor and teach 5 classes a week in my community. I love walking, hiking, paddleboarding, pilates, and dancing to help manage my weight. Below is a photo from a park that I try to walk at least 3 times a week. I'm so blessed to live near Sedona,AZ with so many beautiful trails and parks nearby.
Looking forward to next month. September brings cooler temps and fall colors. Can't wait!

DH's birthday today. Not planning much, but trip to town later to get a few things. Walked Lucy this morning, that is routine, breakfast and reading here. Got my hair trimmed yesterday and I like how it came out. Feel tired today. I do want to get a mani-pedi but will wait until next week.

Hello, my friends;
Well, this morning started with a crazy boom! My mom kissed this lady on the mouth at the nursing home. She has been violent, and they are going to put her in a psych ward if she doesn't straighten up. I called and informed them that I had messaged her doctor and explained the situation. We will see. Then I got a message from my unit that the boy who was with us had brain damage from the abuse he received. So we cared for him for nine mos. Finally, they lowered the standards and sent him home with his aunt, who had a positive drug test. In the news, the aunt was in handcuffs, and he child died at age 4. The sad part is that due to his brain injuries, from trauma, he didn't talk, and he couldn't walk. He was so sweet, and this had to happen.
That is why I needed to step away for a bit. My husband seems to want me to work on his mom's paperwork. On my vacay, and I am ignoring him. I want to do what needs to be done for my mental health. I need a nap and to take meds for my stuffy nose.
I love the beautiful flowers, Margaret and Kylia.
Machka, I love the technique of the swimmers and will try it next time I am in the pool. I also looked up the breast stroke. I love to swim. Thank you for sharing.
Carol, I had patients who stayed for years. Most of our patients were discharged from our NICU and transferred to our floor. We have a new unit opening up for medically fragile individuals, and they will be relocating there soon. We had girls who were the same age as DS, and they had been with us from the ages of 10 to 22 years. Now they live in Kentucky.
Beth and Carol, this crud is knocking me out.
Jen, welcome to our tribe.
Lisa, it is cooling down in Mississippi, too.
Have a wonderful day, everybody. Talk to you all later.

They get so many desserts donated from the local grocery store- many full size two layer cakes- price tags say $22-25 on many, dozen box of doughnuts, pies, cupcakes, etc. This past week they got more than usual so each family got two large items and two small/individual size items.
It is fun when the mom's let the kids pick out what they want. Their eyes get so big and their smiles even bigger.4 -
I think from the moment I started on 5 mg dose on July 10th, I was getting into constipation. Then that month I kind of concentrated on 100 grams of protein (or more) a day. I wasn't supporting that by either taking stool softener, or Mirilax. The phase of the medicine goes up and down as you have it in your system weekly. So I am keeping track and if I haven't had a bowel movement in 24 hrs from the last one, I will take a dose of Mirilax. I will also drink more water, take a fiber gummy, and also take a stool softener nightly.
Realizing that my zepbound will have symptoms, and I need meds to handle those before they get too extreme is key!

Kylia-That plant is a Hoya- and if you smell the flowers if it has recently bloomed- they smell like CHOCOLATE!! Love them. Need to get another one as mine died a few years ago.

I do the same thing with dresses- pair of capri leggings or long ones(depending on the dress) under my dresses/skirts- super comfy- a LOT more comfy that wearing a slip under them. Wear dresses every Sunday to church(only a couple ladies wear pants at church). I have quite a few- all are comfy ones. If I am going to be sitting for an hour and a half for service, I don't want something tight and uncomfortable.
They also help keep me warm, especially during the winter time. Even need a bit extra in the summer as they keep the AC turned up high-they said it is because all the men wear suits and get too warm.4 -

Carol - I am so so sorry that check fraud happened to you. I always thought that by mailing checks directly at the post office we had some protection. I wrote a check to a local charity that took over a month to clear and I was getting nervous. It did clear for the correct amount. I think I'm going to start hand delivering checks. Otherwise, I'm not sure what we can do about this other than pay everything online.
Mo - what a tough day for you. Is your mom in a care home or an Alzheimer's facility? I guess what I'm wondering is if they would put her on medication? My friend T's FIL is having problems with sundowners - he wakes up in the middle of the night, angry and violent. The care home doesn't have the staff to handle him so they call his sons to go sit with him. Such a heartbreaker about that little boy dying in his aunt's "care". There's no way I could do your job. No way. You have my utmost admiration. Try to rest up on your vacation. (((HUGS))))
Jen - welcome! Sedona looks lovely! Some, if not all, of the guys who want to be "friends" on MFP are bots and scammers. I sometimes get the same photo, different name, lol.
Heather - guest bedroom looks spiffy with the new linens.
Barbie - so glad to hear Annie is learning it's OK for mommy to be away for a while and to not get upset. These battery operated tools are fun once we get the hang of it.
Tracey - so excited for you with your new to you Jeep! It looks great and how nice you get some service and 3 year warranty included. That means a lot. And I'm sure you feel more confident it taking the grands somewhere.
Allie - is there anyone who can drive you to these medical appointments if need be? You've been such a good sport about taking other people places and to appointments.
Looks like we're in between showers so I'll see if I can get some weed eating done.
