After work went to WalMart because Jess wanted green onions. Personally, if it were me, I would have used white onions because that’s what we have. Last night when she bought the pork chops, she also got a package of brand name ranch dressing because the one I had was the store brand. She said she didn’t want the “cheap” stuff. I told her “you want to save money, well, this is one way” Honestly, many times the store brands are just repackaged name brand things.

Rosemarie – please let me know what your friend suggests you take on the cruise. Remember I told you that Jess gave us a cruise? Well, I’ve never been on one so I have no idea what kind of clothing to take.

Rita – happy birthday to you dh

Carol – what a beautiful bride you were with that handsome guy

Rebecca – oh dear, my heart breaks for your sister. Words just will not suffice.

Allie dear – when it rains, it pours. Please take care of yourself

deb – talking about how people can pick and choose at your foodbank reminded me of an incident we had. Many times when it’s someone’s birthday/anniversary we give them a cake. Well, one day this boy who was probably around 4 comes up and tells us it’s his birthday. L said to the mother “I understand it’s your son’s birthday today”,. The mother says “no it’s not. He just wanted the free cake”. 4 years old and he’s already working the system :)

Went to ceramics then took Ganon for a short walk. I sadly don’t think I’ll take him any more in the evening. He pooped and I had a hard time finding it to pick it up.

Machka - what’s the secret? Do tell.

    This is The Secret ...

See the arm positions? When your arms are in those positions, that's when you breathe in. Knowing The Secret made all the difference!

I can't do that either. If I'm caught up in a thriller, I want it to unfold the way the author intended!

Machka: I love the denim dress! It is a good thing I am researching clothes! In some settings I seem over dressed and others i am not casual enough! I read to dress like an onion…in layers! October is not an easy month to judge the weather!

Here are some ideas for Autumn 2025.

In the link below, there are some I like and some I don't … but I do like this one. I'm really pleased to see it on the list because I've got similar in my wardrobe.

I'd have a lightweight jacket or cardigan with it … the layered thing.

If it's quite chilly, I might go with a lightweight long-sleeved pullover plus the jacket or cardigan … layering.

    Good morning !

Weight the same. Not up. Not down. Did buy two new pairs of Levi's to fit.

Rebecca- Glad you are mending. Hugs for your sister. What a shock! Tory has decided that my toes taste good. She is so funny.

Rosemarie- Delegating is not my strong suit.. Just saying. Team projects probably also not a strong suit. Somehow I always ended up doing all the work in school. I am glad to hear the excitement for your trip. When I travel it is mainly dresses with bike shorts for chafing protection as Machka said. I will normally take one pair of jeans depending on weather as I hate to be cold. Comfortable walking shoes (I like Superga tennis shoes) , one pair of heels, and a pair of sandals. Since I often head to the mountains there is usually a pair of cowboy boots as well. Layers are important. As I said, I am really opposed to being cold.

Allie- I hope you get some answers.

One of my magazines has an interview with Rod Stewart. At 80 yo he still swims underwater the length of the pool! Frank Sinatra told him strong lungs equalled better stamina so swim underwater.

I have no idea what this plant is. My mother in law had them for years. These are starts from her plants that my sister in law gave me 5 years ago. Last year SIL told me one of hers had flowers. We both thought that strange as in 20+ years we had never seen one of mom's flower . This year one of mine has flowered. I have found joy in my flowers, cats, and hummingbirds this year.

Machka- I like that outfit too. I liked most of the ideas except for....the bloomer pants. I may or may not have worn a pair or two of harem pants back in the day, but that was short lived. I will say that a lot of the dresses and tops I saw while buying my jeans were styles I or my mom wore in the 70's. Just saying....

I once had a customer tell me he could always tell where the plane he was on was going to by the way folks dressed. In Europe people took pride in how they presented themselves. Coming back to USA, it was all about personal comfort (ie pajamas). I want stylish comfy.

    Gotta get ready for work.

    Healing thoughts and hugs!

    Much love,

    Kylia in Ohio

Machka: How interesting about the crawl stroke. I was taught to take the breath when I raised my elbow out of the water. This is indeed something new to try. I will have to watch a video of the Olympic swimmers and see when they breathe!

I love the clothes and outfit that you liked! the pants are a little pricey but the Walker knit top would be okay. It does have a slit on the sides that goes higher than what my figure can pull off now a days! Maybe I could stitch the slit up! i will have to think about it!

The other link was interesting as well! For some reason…maybe being an American…it never occurred to me that the fashion was rather different in Europe. I guess I thought there would be tee shirts and caps and sweatshirts with various soccer team names or college names on them! I have watched some Emily in Paris on Netflix! And enjoyed the fashion on the show.

i have not worn a dress since my Father's funeral in 2008. I have thought about buying one! Someone told me about cocoon dresses. I didn't even know what that was. I had to Google it! I wore a pant suit to my son's wedding.

Kylia: What a beautiful plant! Last year I was suppose to set up a plan to have people make the coffee/purchase pastries for the adult ed at church. Well I made the coffee all year and purchased donuts. It seemed easier than someone not showing up who agreed to make the coffee! i wonder how I could do better?

Frank Sinatra and Rod Stewart would laugh with me! For the life guarding test I was suppose to swim to the bottom of the pool and pick up a block or something and swim back to the other end of the pool. I picked up the pool drain! So I had to swim to the bottom of the pool 2x!

Annie: Yes! Go back to school! I go through those phases. I even looked at the Fall 2025 course offerings at the local college! I would want a live course so I could walk along the campus as Fall sets in! My parents also keep/kept conversation very, very superficial. My mother talks about the weather….not as a social construct…she really loves weather as a subject of interest! I could easily miss a tornado watch or upcoming rain storm. This has been going on for decades. As have conversations about Columbo and Perry Mason!

I think your Dad is sharing his love for you! And his concern for you! I think some of us of a certain age have trouble taking kindness and concern from men. If a woman were saying the same words, it would be considered bonding. 80's feminism has its draw backs.

Will read more later! Always plenty to read and absorb on the thread! Hope all is well! Fall is more in the air now!

    Best,

    Rosemarie from GA

I tend to look at the new fashions, then hit Target, H&M, and Kmart (not the US Kmart) for less expensive options.

I love dresses because they're so easy - pop on short leggings, put on the dress, and you're done.

T-shirts, caps and sweatshirts with team names aren't particularly popular here either. You might see them if you went to a sporting event and looked at the spectators. Or if people are digging in the garden. Maybe in a hardware store picking up DIY stuff.

I was looking around town today. There weren't too many people wearing jeans but the vast majority of the ones that were in jeans, were wearing nice business-wear tops with them. I could pick the tourists in the crowd! The family all in jeans and new-looking sweatshirts!!

My swim instructor is encouraging me to keep my arms straighter and not bend my elbows. More like this short YouTube:

DH's birthday today. Not planning much, but trip to town later to get a few things. Walked Lucy this morning, that is routine, breakfast and reading here. Got my hair trimmed yesterday and I like how it came out. Feel tired today. I do want to get a mani-pedi but will wait until next week.

They get so many desserts donated from the local grocery store- many full size two layer cakes- price tags say $22-25 on many, dozen box of doughnuts, pies, cupcakes, etc. This past week they got more than usual so each family got two large items and two small/individual size items.
It is fun when the mom's let the kids pick out what they want. Their eyes get so big and their smiles even bigger.

Kylia-That plant is a Hoya- and if you smell the flowers if it has recently bloomed- they smell like CHOCOLATE!! Love them. Need to get another one as mine died a few years ago.

I do the same thing with dresses- pair of capri leggings or long ones(depending on the dress) under my dresses/skirts- super comfy- a LOT more comfy that wearing a slip under them. Wear dresses every Sunday to church(only a couple ladies wear pants at church). I have quite a few- all are comfy ones. If I am going to be sitting for an hour and a half for service, I don't want something tight and uncomfortable.
They also help keep me warm, especially during the winter time. Even need a bit extra in the summer as they keep the AC turned up high-they said it is because all the men wear suits and get too warm.
