    Hey ladies!

Today is my husband's 65th birthday. We are watching Navy Midshipmen beat Virginia Tech in football.💖⚓👍🏼 I will make him some pinto bean soup later. I have to fry up some bacon, so I have drippings to fry up the ham hocks! I will use 2 slices of the bacon in a tortilla wrap with tomato, cream cheese and a piece of chicken tender. Then dessert is a cup of whole milk and a Magic Spoon bar. Lunch was 3 Hebrew frank bits in a pastry wrap. Pigs in blankets! I mixed sugar free relish, brown mustard and ketchup for them.😁💖

My salt intake is a bit high, but not too much.

want to thank you for recommending “Vera Wong's Unsolicited Advice for Murderers” really enjoyed it.

@auntiebk … that was one in the lists I've been posting at the beginning of each month from a few months ago. 😊

Interesting discussion about checks, debit vs credit cards and European travel. I had no idea that travellers’ cheques were obsolete. I don’t use my debit card for anything as it doesn’t have the fraud protections of our Visa and Discover cards. Use them to pay for all purchases and cable/internet/cell phone for the cash back bonuses, pay in full each month to avoid interest. Would using debit card in foreign country have any fraud protection? Would using credit cards abroad incur additional fees? Just curious, no travel plans.

Use of travellers' cheques has apparently been dropping off since the mid-1990s.

But the last time I used them was in the late 1980s. My first husband and I (either just before we were married or just after) set off on a trip equipped with travellers' cheques, and stopped somewhere for lunch. We tried to use the travellers' cheques but the cashier didn't know what they were and didn't trust them, so we paid cash. Next place down the road … same thing. We got to our destination, went to a bank and got rid of the travellers' cheques.

Evidently most banks etc. stopped making them at some point before 2020, some quite a bit before 2020.

In Australia, our debit card and credit card are the same thing — we have one card for everything — and yes, there are absolutely protections. However, it is a very good idea to talk to your bank before you travel and let them know what your plans are. So if you were travelling to Italy, and your card was stolen, then a purchase turns up in Austria, it might get flagged as questionable.

And yes, it is possible there may be fees. Again, it's always a good idea to have a chat to your bank.

Machka - Sounds like an absolutely lovely weekend for you and your husband.

Allie - Thinking about you kid. Keep checking in, please. We worry.

Rebecca - Hope Lee's birthday was wonderful. These milestone birthdays are awesome and celebrated even more enthusiastically when you've gone through something like his liver transplant, I'm sure…

Heather - Hope the visit is going just swimmingly.

Barbara AHMOD - Sounds horribly painful and like quite a hitch in your get-along. Hope your sciatica resolves soon, dear heart. Thinking about you!.

Lanette - I think the tomatoes are nearly done, Corey thinks there's more to come, so it's who you talk to! He's an optimist, and I'm uneducated on the subject… This is what we've canned from them this year - doesn't look like much, but there's at least 40 pounds of tomatoes reduced down into those jars.

    IMG_20250831_080802177.jpg

The pint jars are usable as is for sauces, but weren't roasted at all. The half pints were roasted with a bit of olive oil and garlic cloves, and can be used as is for pizza sauce or mixed 2 or even 3 to one with chicken stock to make spaghetti sauce or in lasagna or other Italian dishes. With four pint jars and ten half-pints, we're probably looking at around around 20 meals in that small space.

The jars you see peeking at left are his salsa from 2023 and past those, he still has a couple of half pints of pepper jelly from 2023 as well. A lot of his pickling is left on the counter to ferment, then refrigerated until he eats it - he's got pickled cucumbers, which we buy in pickling size - $4 worth of cucumbers makes 3 quarts of pickles and they're fresh and have significantly less salt in them. Saves $10 to $15. Pickles are getting expensive! He also pickled four quarts of green beans.

One more post to come - I dug out the pics from the year we moved in, 2018, the winter Corey ripped out the floor, 2020, and now with the work we've done these last few weeks in the spare bedroom. Feel free to skip.

    Love,

Matcha, I would definitely respond the entire Introvert column!

Mo, I hope you don't mind, but I sent you a friend request on FB as well.

Not sure if I will be running the pay booth today. We had a thunder-storm at 7-8:30 am this morning and everything is wet. (ps. Not sure how I changed the font to Italic. Not done on purpose!) Using a Windows laptop and accidentally did some key-combo which changed to Italic. Weird!

    Thought for Today:

What does a storm cloud wear as underwear?

    Thunderwear!

That guy, "sitting with dogs" is amazing! When they show the after, when the dogs get groomed, or adopted...so great! Its painful to see, but he's got an army of help behind him willing to step up! Awe, when he says to the dogs, "who's a good girl"? Some have never heard that phrase ever... Its heartbreaking. What those dogs do to physically survive, whether to disassociate, or just check out…poor things.😥💖
