WOMEN AGES 50+ FOR AUGUST 2025

He had a nice day of watching the Navy midshipmen play football and win! They played Virginia Tech. It was like 50 something to 7! Then I made pinto bean and ham hock soup. I even had some. He was able to talk on the phone with eldest son in Japan, then later on middle son called for a chat. I did not chat, it was Dad and sons time.💖👍🏼
I balance to the penny because its one of the things I can control.😂👍🏼

A good job well done! My guests left a day early, but we were all absolutely bushed out, and would have spent this evening just recovering and napping. 😁 Jo felt up to driving, so they decided to head for home. Good decision! 😉
We were up at 6 am, to start walking at 6.45, down to the start of the triathlon. Got there by 7.30 to say hello to the girls and cheer them on. Over 2 miles. I hadn't slept hardly at all that night with a lot of fast heart rate, so just read my Poirot. Put my face on at 4 am.
The girls did great. I will post photos from my phone. Edie was fantastic in the bike section. Unfortunately the swim had to be cancelled because it was too rough, so it was a timed start, with each child setting off separately.
Afterwards I walked home with John, so 4 miles in total, and then collapsed for an hour. The others turned up a bit later. I had discussed with my son getting together over fish and chips at their house, so we all Ubered to the chip shop and put in a huge order! The boys had a beer while we waited. My son picked us up from there. Lunch was lovely, with 9 of us round the table. Then our visitors were given an exhibition of all the bikes the family has, and a guided tour of the house renovations. After that, we had run out of sociability energy, so they decided to set off home. I was v relieved, and have just woken up from a 2 hour nap. Two nights without sleep!
All arrangements went well. We all had a very good time, but it was exhausting. Lovely to see the brothers together and all the family.

Hello Everyone;
I was absent from Facebook for a while, but I am back on. I was told that I had been hacked, and it wasn't easy for them to gain access. So, I stopped posting. I miss interacting with family and long-lost friends, so I am back on. Baby Suko, on the other hand, has never been on FB. The invitation is open to anyone who would like to be my friend. Rita, I will look for your friend request.
I passed out in my chair watching HGTV. I woke up because I didn't have my machine with me downstairs, so I was coughing and trying to catch my breath. I was waiting for my tea to finish steeping. Now my tea is well steeped, and it is delicious. Talking about delicious, Rebecca, the pinto beans and ham hock soup sounds divine. Add some cornbread, and I would be in heaven.
Allie, please check in with us at least once a day so we don't worry. I agree with Lisa, we do worry. Is Tracey your only child?
Rosmarie, I agree that my DS was young then, and now that he is in his 20s, he can be a lot of fun. DH, on the other hand, can go overboard with the number of shows he books. Now I get to approve his itinerary.
Terri, you are pretty talented. The water looked so real.
I want to take a real nap with my machine. So I will jump back in here later. Have a wonderful Sunday.
XO,
Mo in Mississippi

Lisa - love seeing those jars of tomato sauce on the shelf. Hope I get enough ripe ones to get a few cans. Might toss them in the freezer instead of getting the canner going, depends on the weather. Does Corey pressure can anything or is it all water bath?
Tracey - the reason I tossed the Tupperware - can't find the lids, they must have run off with stray socks.😁 Also, it was at least 30 years old and had pretty grungy smells after all that time which would have affected anything I stored in them. I do have some Tupperware yellow plastic strainers that I love. Sounds like you had a great time at Kaitlyn's. Glad your girls live close by.
Rebecca - Happy Birthday to Lee.😍
Terri - love those watercolors, they are very pretty. (We have several talented painters in this group, don't we?) Did you take classes to learn the technique? Maybe there's good online instruction these days. Looks like fun.
Pip - that's a great training tip for dogs, thank you.
Rita - Machka - I land squarely in the "Introvert" column too. 😁 I'm having breakfast with my neighbor this week at a restaurant close by, the one I used to walk with every day during the pandemic. She claims she's an introvert but she's definitely in the extrovert column. I'd much prefer to just catch up via email but figure I can meet up with her once a month, lol. Besides, I told Mrs. Roger I'd get the scoop on what's going on, so it's a secret agent mission.😉
Barbara - glad your sciatica is better and you have things lined up in Corvallis for Tumble.
Debbie - those tomatoes are beautiful and look delicious. Are you going to cook some down into sauce? The fact that they are just coming on gives me hope that I might get some of my larger ones to ripen yet. What are the yellow ribbed ones?
Heather - sounds like your weekend went well and everything worked out fine. Love the photos - the girls are quite the athletes and super nice the brothers could get together again. Had it been a while? Hooray for the early departure - how wonderful to now relax and catch up on your sleep.
###BREAKING NEWS####: Fairy laid an egg yesterday! She's the hen that was so sick a couple months ago. I figured she had a problem with her egg factory and thought she was done producing eggs this summer or maybe permanently. Ain't nature wonderful?😁
Saving applesauce making for tomorrow. I made my grocery run this morning and plan on relaxing the rest of the day. Sort of.
Reminder - tomorrow is "Weekly Check-In" for those participating.

Almost forgot - for those of you who like peanut butter, here's a FB reel showing how to make it with a food processor and a jar of unsalted dry roasted nuts. I'm going to try it one of these days.

Mo…Good for you! Unfortunately there are those who will take advantage unless you put your foot down. Way to advocate for yourself!
Lanette if I were to try to make peanut butter from peanuts I would try to find organic ones. I learned that peanuts and cotton are often grown together and cotton is a heavily treated crop with pesticide unless it is organic cotton. I do pay more to buy organic peanut butter. It is often also in a glass jar!
3 -
Margaret - I'll be on the lookout for organic peanuts when I get ready to make peanut butter. I usually buy Adam's organic peanut butter. Always in glass jars. 😉

Lanette - the brothers haven't seen each other in at least 5 years. Bea doesn't remember him. Jo has never been down here. They are only able to travel now because all their three rescued greyhounds have died. My son is on the spectrum and finds solitary travel very anxiety provoking. He doesn't drive. He can only cope with limited socialising. The brothers are so completely different that they have never been natural friends. Much better now. It was my suggestion that we had the fish and chip lunch or it would never have happened. I only suggested it after the race.
I'm pleased it all went well, but it was a major effort. I feel it is important to keep family members in touch. Good for the kids.

Lanette - he uses a water bath for everything. I have done a small amount of canning, but I find it stressful, and he's very relaxed about the whole thing, and indeed seems to love it. I do not. That said, we're not trying to can anything that needs pressure canning. If anyone has the tremendous urge to tell me how we "have" to do something with canning, please stomp that urge flat. 😈I don't tell him how to do it, and we haven't died yet. 😲 Can you tell we get lots of unsolicited advice whenever he posts his adventures in canning? Yeah.
Anyway… the underlayment is cut into pieces parts and laid down… and I've ordered some medium pile carpet tiles to use on the floors. Should be here by Thursday. I was able to get some carpet tiles from Home Depot for 88 cents per sq. foot with my military discount. I should be able to create some reasonable patterns on the floor with my quilting knowledge. Maybe. We'll see. Each tile is 12" x 36", so the patterns should be just endless…
Supposedly.
Later, my dears,
Love,

The yellow one is called Orange Accordian.
I got the plant from a lady who was selling plants for $1 each.
I planned to make some pico de gallo today with some of them but- right as I was getting to church(sat less than 5 min. DH messaged me to tell me the fridge went out. The freezer part of it went out two weeks ago but we are still waiting for them to come out with the part- of course, already paid them $400 for the part and service that was supposed to only take 5 days)- now it took the fridge out too. Most likely everything in the fridge will need to be tossed. DH said it was barely cool when he checked it this morning.
We should have just bought a new one but didn't want the hassle of moving everything in the hall way to get the old one out and the new one in. It is a narrow hall and now lined with book shelves, etc.4 -
Been somewhat busy. Did Ageless with Kathy DVD today.
Jess asked a few days ago if her friend, H, could spend Fri. night here. No problem, I thought it would just be the one night. Well, while they’re here she asks if they can spend Sat. night too. What can I say with them sitting there? So right now they’re sleeping. The father who is also here said they wanted to leave early Sun. I was thinking that early would be around 8 so I made bacon and I’ll give them eggs. It’s now 9 and they’re not up. Oh well...I was going to do some yoga but decided not to so that I could make the bacon.
H was in Wisconsin and gave me a block of cheddar cheese. Is it good! Put cheese in front of me and it’s gone
Mo – actually, we got to talk more with Pete than with Denise. Don’t ask me to explain it. I think she was glad we came so we could take care of PJ, but that’s OK with me. I’d much rather spend the time with him anyway. Oh, the drive WAS scary. We went thru pockets of rain where you couldn’t even see in front of you. And the whitecaps off the Bridge! Like I said, some of them were so high that the water came on the car. Fortunately, shortly after going across the Bridge we hit a bad rainstorm so it washed all the salt off. Gotta look at the bright side.
Tracey – I have a few crowns and none of them feel like they shouldn’t be there. Definitely have your dentist check them. I-95in the north can be a pain. I really don’t have a problem with it when we get to the South
Heather – so lovely. I especially love the jewelry
Annie – when we went to France, Vince kept saying that I would be the one to get pickpocketed because I’m so trusting. Guess who got pickpocketed
Lisa – glad you got the “yoga mat” issue somewhat resolved
Took Ganon for a walk then went to Aldi. I didn’t realize how crowded it is! H and her father left around 1
H gave Jess a henna tattoo
Yesterday the guy who delivers bread to BK came, Before I was cleaning the tomatoes (putting wash on them) and in trying to get out of his way, the wash got all over me. When the store manager came in I asked her if we had any more shirts and I explained what had happened. I asked her for another one “any one but black”. Then I find out that they want us to wear black, I guess for continuity. My feeling is “if you’re paying me to wear black, I’ll wear black”. She thinks my brown shirts will be OK, I’ll wear one tomorrow and she can see. I’m not sure if she’ll want to trade the orange ones I have for a black one. Really, it’s not like the customer sees me much, just going to the bathroom and coming and going. How many people are there at 6:30 anyway? But whatever…..
Yoga mat: Thru BCBS of NC, I get a certain amount of $$ each month to spend on their equipment. Unfortunately, my gym membership also comes out of this money. But before that started, I got one of their yoga mats. Is it ever thick! Didn’t have to pay for it, and I’ll probably never be able to get another one as long as I go to the gym(and I’m not giving that up, even tho financially <for them>it isn’t worth it. Me? I honestly don’t care, as long as I get to go to the gym for free, I’m happy
I’m thinking that I have arthritis in my hip. Earlier we were on the porch talking and I was in so much pain. Came in and took 2 Aleve. There is still pain, but no where near what it was like before. Anyone else take Aleve? Did it totally eliminate the pain from the arthritis, or just diminish it?
Rosemarie – I clean before and after houseguests!
Ginny – I like to walk early in the a.m. when I’m not working on Sun. On Thurs (the other day I don’t work) I like to go to the gym early and then I go for my walk (if I don’t go shopping first)
The other day we talked to Jess about washing pots/pans in a timely manner. I don’t know why she got so bent out of shape. Her friend was due to come here shortly and I really didn’t want to have dirty dishes in the sink. Boy, did she ever get upset. I talked to Colby and he thinks part of it is the stress. I told him that I’d be willing to make dinner M.T,W and T. She can do F. S. and Sun. Maybe that’ll relieve some of her stress? I’ll talk to her about it later. Anyway, she made pancakes for breakfast. I know she used non-stick spray. She did wash the pans. But even tho she used the non-stick spray, you have to scrub the pans. I scrubbed the pans. Well, she tried.
Allie – I do wish you had someone staying with you
I just realized that when H left, she took some of her leftovers in two of my dishes! I thought they were hers
Rebecca – happy birthday to Lee
kylia – what was the name of that plant again?
Pip – sometimes when I take Ganon for a walk, he gets a stubborn streak and does not want to go. I don’t want him getting the idea that if he protests, I’ll give in and just let him be in the house. I hate dragging him. Any ideas how to get him to come short of taking food with me?
Mo – I’d like to send you a facebook friend request, but what name should I search for?
Yea Fairy!!!! You go girl!
What does everyone think about this new diary???
Well, now that I’ve bored you all to tears, guess I’ll post this.

😀 Debbie, your tomatoes are beautiful. I've grown only cherry tomatoes because our growing season is short and the sunshine in my yard is limited, but I love what I've grown.
😀 Lanette, congrats to you and Fairy for the egg.
😀 Lisa, all your remodeling is inspiring.
😀 Machka, I agree. I liked lockdown and having nowhere that i had to go.
😀 Heather, congrats on surviving your houseguests. Suggesting fish and chips was a great idea. Sometimes it's best to take the lead. Glad you could get back to your favourite activity of cheering on your granddaughters.
😀 Rebecca, Happy Birthday to Lee. You helped him have a great day.
😀 Allie, sorry about your lost post but glad you checked in so we don't have to worry about you.
🌞 Barbara, best wishes to Tumble.
😀 There's no doubt that I'm an introvert. On Friday a friend I hadn't seen in a long time came over for a walk. After walking and talking for 40 minutes, I showed her my tomatoes and sunflowers and said, "This was great. Thanks. We should do it again. Then she left.
😀 I made a giant pot of chicken soup this morning. It's cooling on the stove. I'll have one serving with brown rice for supper and freeze the rest in pint jars that are single servings for me.
😀 Carol, You mentioned buying what she thought was a healthy low calorie canned soup and found it filled with sodium. I found this list at a health fair.
Top 10 Tips for Finding Hidden Salt
1. It tastes salty or you can see the salt on it.
2. It comes in a can or a box.
3. It doesn't need refrigeration or stays fresh for a long time.
4. The label says "instant" or "quick".
5. It's processed meat like lunch meat, deli meat, hot dogs, ham, or sausage.
6. It only needs a microwave for cooking.
7. There's more than 400mg of sodium per serving.
8. Salt or sodium is listed in the first 10 ingredients.
9. I has more than 10% of the daily sodium value per serving.
10. You get it from a fast food restaurant.

get a fanny pack and fill it with treats. The smellier the better. Before you go in the walk don’t feed him much. Or better yet if u feed in the morning, feed after the walk, so he will be up for the treats. Use a shorter leash, not a long one. Have you used a gentle leader on him?

Greetings and good vibes to all.
Heather: So glad the visit went well. Add me to the group that stresses over houseguests. Just today I got busy in my bathroom with the express goal of creating a spare drawer that N can use next time he is here. It turned into a Pandora's box that eventually led to redoing the entire bath undersink, 5 drawers and my sock drawer. I must be insane.
Allie: I had an echocardiogram this past April. Found that upper right chamber of my heart is enlarged. That finding triggered the sleep test which showed moderate sleep apnea. Hope to get fitted with dental device for sleep soon.
Carol and Michele: do you have any lady friends to travel with, even for short trips? I just got back from 2 nights with a couple of gals I have only known for 2 years. We got along great.
We did a road trip to Palisade in the western side of Colorado. Saw the amazing rock formations of Colorado National Monument, the famous Palisade peach orchards, wineries and then posh hot springs. We shared a large hotel room with 2 queen beds. The other 2 had already travelled together and adapted to each others sleep preferences, so I had second bed to myself. It was all good.
Stay well, friends. We can do this.

Rori - That was a lovely trip! Peaches - yum! Gorgeous scenery. I, personally, couldn't share a room now, but it saves a lot of money if you can. I used to share with G when we travelled together.
Pip - Super view! Glad you got the right room in the end. We always have the same Grand Suite on our cruises. For me, that's a huge part of the holiday. We are at the front of the ship and can see everything through our panorama windows. Before we set out to get the fish and chips, Jo and I had a Margarita. 11.30 in the morning! It was fun though!
Terri - I bet you are a wonderful tutor. So important. That's how we got started, on the cruise. Didn't have a clue, so the support was vital. It changed our lives.
It was very emotional yesterday, seeing the determination on all those kids' faces. 60 in Edie's group, 40 in Bea's. And there is an even younger group of littlies. Seeing my granddaughter speeding down the road is heart-stopping. Fearless. And those tiny kids, running their hearts out. I always have wet eyes. John remarked on the Brighton names, when they are announced at the finish! 😅 Edie just missed the top ever cycle time by one second. She was going to go to her swimming club that evening! 😯 She did manage to eat a whole adult pizza at lunchtime!
Lisa - Well done Corey! It reminds me of my early days, doing up two houses from scratch. Oouuff! But it's so worth it in the end.
I've done my morning exercise. V stiff! Post guest washing to do. Must write first. Cleaner today.

Funny story was told over the lunch table. A few years ago, they were on holiday and talking to the kids when 'Uncle Tom' was mentioned. Bea said, 'I don't know Uncle Tom. Who is he? Is he dead?' That is now a running joke in the family. 'Is he dead?' 🤣
