I'm giving this a strong effort. Michael is to drink only water after 3:00 and I'm forcing myself to drink a whole bottle of water after 3:00 before I even take my shoes off. Another goal of mine is to make sure I'm getting enough protein. In the morning I'm going to try to make sure I get the majority of my protein in that meal. The kind of proteins I like for breakfast are egg whites chicken and I would have cottage cheese too. So I'm going to start making sure I have those in my pantry at all times! Here here for the second day of getting my water in and today is the first day of seeing the numbers where I want them for the most part so it's a great start! Do I think doc?

What is a simple goal that you have?

    Hello, and welcome!

I'm glad you're off to a great start. Building positive changes into routine habits is what it's all about.

At this point, a simple goal that I have is to keep on keeping on, so my weight stays in the healthy range. (I lost with MFP starting nearly 10 years ago, after around 30 previous years of overweight/obesity; I've been at a healthy weight since loss . . . hence that goal.)

More protein is a good goal, if that's been low previously. Getting enough water is also good . . . but that can be overdone. At the risk of TMI: If your urine is pale yellow, you're good. If it's clear, you're probably overhydrating, which isn't ideal. If it's dark (brownish), that suggest drinking more would be a good plan. (It can be bright but still light yellow if getting more than needed of certain water-soluble vitamins, but that's an OK color, too.)

I'm a big fan of making the easiest possible plan that still leads to good results, because I think that's a great way to focus not just on weight loss, but also (mostly) focus on finding and practicing the long term habits that will keep us at a healthy weight permanently. . . without a constant input of willpower, discipline or motivation. (Those last aren't my strong points, I admit. 😉)

Wishing you success - IME the quality of life improvement that results is more than worth the effort it takes to accomplish it.

I know it’s just semantics, but the word “forcing” really bothers me.

If I had to force myself to do anything, my will to do so wouldn’t last the day.

Encourage yourself, set yourself a goal, challenge yourself, but never ever “force”.

One thing I can sincerely say in my years here, the words I use to myself have meaning, and words set the stage, whether consciously or subconsciously.

My simple goal, every day is to eat. Not too much, but definitely not too little. It’s nice having a numeric goal to look to.
