I'm missing 6 minutes of strength training this month and about 1.2 km running and am going on summer vacation from tomorrow evening. Lets see if I still manage to get both badges.

August is almost over… and September is right around the corner…

I earned 16 of the August challenges plus 7 of the Connect+ August challenges.

    • cycling: August Ride to 100, August Time to Ride, August Tour
    • Hiking: USA Summer Hiking

The September challenges are available now.
    19 regular challenges plus 11 Connect+ challenges:

    • Running: 4 challenges
    • Cycling: 4 challenges
    • Walking: 2 challenges
    • Swimming: 2 challenges
    • Connections: 3 challenges

Here we are on the last day of August. This is a great time to look at what September challenges you want to tackle. But while you're at it, remember that there are other "challenges" that you don't have to join and which are not time-constrained (i.e. tied to a specific time frame). Here are a few you might want to consider:

    • Rise and Grind • Record activity between 4 & 7am for 7 consecutive days
    • Sleep Streak • Get a Sleep Score of 75+ for 7 consecutive days (this is not easy for me)
    • Sleep Savant • Receive sleep data for 30 consecutive days
(this is easier than Sleep Streak, because the score doesn't matter)
    • Hydration Streak • Track 64 oz. of water daily for 30 consecutive days
    • 30 for 30 • Record a 30-minute activity for 30 consecutive days
    • Walk Streak • Walk 1 mile or more in a single activity for 30 consecutive days
    • Run Streak • Run 1 mile or more in a single activity for 30 consecutive days
    • Swim Streak • Swim every day for 30 consecutive days
    • 10K a Day Challenge • Get 10,000 steps/day for 30 consecutive days
    • 60-Day Goal Getter • Hit your daily steps goal for 60 consecutive days
(note: this is the step goal you've set for yourself)

I try to do them all, except Run Streak and Swim Streak; most of them are pretty easy, although Sleep Streak can be a tough one.

    Then there's this one:

    • Challenge Champ • Win a challenge against your connections — this pertains to personal challenges you create and your connections join, or that your connections create and you join.
      • Steps — The most steps wins.
      • Running — The farthest running distance wins.
      • Cycling — The farthest cycling distance wins.
      • Swimming — The farthest swimming distance wins.

The duration of a personal challenge can be for one day, one weekend, one week, one calendar month, or a custom period defined by the challenge creator.

(All of the above "repeatable" challenges can be earned up to 250 times!)

Lets see what I got last month:

    August Rundown

    August Gains

    Active August

    August weekend 5k

    Step into august.

    Not bad.

Will be on summer vacation until the middle of the month and don't expect to get any badges other than walking and steps.

    For August hopefully:

    • August step month ✅
    • Step into August ✅
    • August weekend 5k ✅
    • August weekend 10k ✅
    • August 15k ❌
    • August rundown ✅
    • Active August ✅
    • August weekend walking ✅
    • August time to walk❌ (I walked 19.1 and hiked 25.4km but hiking doesn't count for walking badges)

A bonus badge - I didn't know this one existed until I got it: New Heights - Record a hiking activity with 2000 feet of ascent

    I just earned this badge:

    Take a Deep Breath
Record a dive in Apnea or Apnea Hunt mode.

Only five dives to a depth of only six feet,
but hey, it's a start. I'm hoping I can improve holding my breath until I am able to do the crawl for the length of the pool (25 yards) while holding my breath.

(P.S. I love sea turtles, so this is perfect!)

Wow, never knew this was an option! I would have gotten this many times around as I love diving. On good days, and if there's something interesting to see under water I manage about 3 minutes. Just holding my breath and clicking onto a stop watch.. well, I'm too impatient for that :D

How do you start this on the watch?

Hi everyone, I recently bought a Garmin for my upcoming 5k, I appreciate this thread and reading about the badges! Thank you 😊

@yirara (sorry I only today saw your post)

Not all watches support the diving activities. I have a Fenix 8 and it has a number of diving options. I'd never paid them much mind as I'm not a scuba diver. I swim a lot, and I've snorkeled on a few vacations, but that's about it. But I came across the Take a Deep Breath badge while perusing the available badges and was intrigued. I'm fairly ignorant of the many options of diving activities. Here's what I've learned so far:

    • I've used apnea mode only a couple times and was mystified by how it was acting. I've learned a bit now about how it records dive time, automatically ends the dive when you surface, when you need to press start repeatedly when doing multiple dives, etc. It's a learning process.
    • There are numerous options for scuba divers relating to single-gas, multi-gas, and other types of diving. None of that is of interest to me. But there are also apnea mode, apnea hunt mode, and pool apnea mode. The last one is the one I'll be focusing on for now, as I'm only doing this in my gym's pool which is about 9 feet at the deep end.
    • In the Pool Apnea activity settings, I selected the "static apnea discipline". This seems the most appropriate for what I'm doing, which is simply to submerge to the bottom of the pool, hold my breath for as long as I can, then resurface, breath and rest, then repeat.

Here's a couple YouTube videos that might help:

@PattyRos3 Which Garmin did you get?

Thanks a lot Frank! Maybe I need to update the firmware on my Fenix 7. I'm always a bit weary of doing that as Garmin might push out a new firmeware again that bricks the watch, and they tend to do. I'm pretty good at free diving, managing close to 3 minutes when there's something interesting to see under water, thus this would really be my badge.

I just noticed Lifestyle Logging, has anyone been using it?

    What? Where?

2.5 weeks summer vacation is taking it's toll on lots of badges. No problem as I've still been very active. Now I could potentially get the strength training badge if I do nothing else, or work hart on the running one. I think I do running.

    In the Connect app

    Health & Performance

It shows up as the second entry for me right under sleep

Looks like it may be in different spots with different models or environments? For me, Lifestyle Logging is under Health Stats in Garmin Connect for Android. I have a Vivoactive 4. Health Stats and Performance Stats are two separate menu options for me. There may be other variations, dunno.

For me (Forerunner 255) it's under Health stats too.

Interesting. I don't have it at all. Hmm..

@yirara it might be device specific, although I don't know why. From the little I know about it, it seems that you would have to manually enter additional info, so why would that require a specific device?

Although I'm aware of it, I haven't set it up yet. I'm not sure what I would choose to track/log.

I have the Vivo 7 and I found the “Lifestyle Logging” options under Health and Performance. I track my healthy meals, caffeine intake, and stretching daily; and annual massage and acupuncture appointments. I’m just testing it out in place of the F2F habit tracker because I can set the Garmin reminder. I often forget to input the information in the habit tracker but I could just set a phone reminder now that I think about it — 🤷‍♀️

Got a new iphone and have slight problems with it in the sense that the route I preferentially run is suddenly shorter. Still, just 5km needed today to get to my goal (I'm away tomorrow). This should work somehow. Big Phew! I managed to transfer the same old version Garmin app to my new phone (plus my outdated MFP app).

Although I am going to be a little short of earning the September Warrior I did earn

Great. So I got the running badge after all, but upon checking today I was missing 2.xkm. Turns out my 3km run from 2 days ago is missing from connect for some reason, but it's still on my watch. Lets see if I can get the running data from there and upload it to Connect manually, and whether it will stick for the badge. Seriously, I fought so hard to get to those 80.5km, and then this happens.

@yirara I assume you've tried syncing your watch and Garmin connect?

You can also try editing the activity in Garmin connect. That might trigger an update.

Ok, I got the missing run back. I downloaded it manually from my watch and uploaded it on the website. All fine. Phew. Got a few badges in September and am quite happy, considering I was more than half of it on summer vacation.

@yirara It looks like you earned all the running badges. Those are the ones I'm lacking.
