Allie - thank you for checking in, hope they get you in better shape before they send you home.
I'm having a lovely afternoon… while Corey works on the baseboards (where I'm essentially useless), I've finished vacuuming, and am sitting crocheting and watching Season 6 of the Great British Sewing Bee. Getting inspired to actually make garments again. Haven't made anything but my crocheted garments since high school home economics class, and that was an unmitigated disaster.
By the way, if you go to Roku on the web (https://therokuchannel.roku.com/ ) it is free, and they have all the old Great British Pottery Throwdown, as well. Really enjoying the Bee… interspersed with the slam, bang, roar of the air nailer and compressor. Grew up in construction, so it's very homey to me… 🙂
Later, my dears,
Love,

Well they have poked and prodded me, took vials and bottles of blood.EKG and now we wait.

Took cousin to lunch to celebrate her 70th. It was a four course meal. She is having the dessert. Enjoyed our pampered lunch!
Picture of me with my $25 hair cut from Great Clips. I just have them get the split ends and ask for a blunt cut.

Exercised then took Ganon for a walk then WalMart. I didn’t do any yoga this morning because I thought perhaps Ganon would give me a hard time walking since we didn’t go for a walk yesterday, but he really didn’t. Made cabbage soup, divided it up, went in the pool, Made okra and tomatoes for C and me. We got a donation of okra at the soup kitchen and they gave some to me. It really wasn’t that much. But we sure don’t turn away a donation! I used some and maybe I’ll take the rest to BK to see if anyone would like it. We can only eat so much
Tracey – It’s not that J doesn’t do things my way (well, she doesn’t but everyone has their way of doing things and as long as it gets done, it really doesn’t matter HOW). I just find it interesting how brand conscious she is yet she says that she wants to save money. Guess I’m just a cheapskate….lol Truthfully, I think us having our meals and J&C having theirs would be a bit of a hassle. Two women in the kitchen? Talk about a recipe for diaster! lol We’d just get on each other’s nerves. This seems to be working for the most part. Like I know that she doesn’t really plan things in advance, but I sort-of led her yesterday by asking what ingredients she needed since I’d be going to the store early this a.m. and would get them. Otherwise, she probably wouldn’t have even given dinner a thought until tomorrow after work
Rosemarie – I feel sorry for Ganon. For the first 5 years of his life he was a lab animal (used for teaching purposes). So he was never treated like a pet. Oh, they’d take him out to do his business and have a yard for him to run around in. But he was (natch) never taken places. Even now I can see him feeling “well, I did my business, now to go back”. But he IS getting better about going on a walk. He does balk some, but no where near like he used to. He has anxiety. I don’t know if he’ll ever get over it. It used to be if a car came into our development, he’d get very anxious. But he’s pretty well gotten over that. Occasionally he gets anxious. Like the other night there was thunder in the distance and this really bothered him.
J&C just came back from Costco. I know they wanted to buy things(food) but, really, we don’t have a lot of room in the refrigerator. Like they bought blueberries, I have some in the freezer, we had trouble finding room in the refrig for them. Oh, well, it’ll get eaten. They also bought chicken breasts and J kept saying that there was room in the freezer. Yes, there is. But I also know her and she won't take them out until the night she needs them and then she'll defrost them on the counter. You really should defrost meats in the refrig since on the counter introduces bacteria. And I also know that she doesn't think in advance. Like "we're going to have … Thursday so I should take the chicken out to defrost today".
Allie – Dan had better find the time to take you to Yale. Afterall you do for him. I really, really don’t like this constant (it seems) vomiting. Update: so glad he took you.
Lisa – one time I made Jess and Denise a scarf with a hood. But I really like the sweater, only I’m not good enough to make something like that.
Rebecca – I keep my whole wheat bread in the freezer for that exact same reason – I’m the only one who eats it and I don’t eat it that often. I do keep some bread for Vince in there, too
Just came back from taking Ganon on his second (shorter) walk.

Michele NC,
I am very particular on my refrigerator, freezer and cabinets organization. I would pull my hair out having J & C buying willy-nilly like that.😁. Lee makes up a menu the week prior, looking at stuff we have, and writing what we need to buy to make that meal. That stops any buying of things not needed. He also puts meat that I am making for a dinner, in the refrigerator the night before. He also piles up items on the counter that I need from the cabinets, like a box of hamburger helper etc. Between us, we make a pretty good team. We also only have the freezer on top of the refrigerator, so not a lot of room for frozen stuff! When son returns from overseas we have him buy a grocery run maybe once a month. He has an area in the cabinet, but mostly he eats whatever I put in front of him. I tell him what the menu is, and ask him what meals he wishes or will be home for, so I can have enough. Otherwise he is on his own. On meals that are ones only him and I eat, I kind of cater to him.

Im getting admiited, and poor Dan was exhausted, so I sent him home
11 -
Rebecca – that’s me. I make up the menu the week before, take things out of the freezer that I need. Sometimes I shop the sales. Like cabbage was just on sale, so we’re having coleslaw. Sorry, no salad, just coleslaw. I keep my grocery list on my phone and buy(for the most part) only what’s on the list. We have a freezer on the bottom of the refrig where I keep my vegetables in one part and other things (like my frozen fruits) in the other. It’s usually filled. Then we have a freezer in our laundry room. I try not to fill this one. Oh, I have butter in there from when it was$1.69/pound. I’m down to only two more pounds. How sad I will be when I have to start paying $3/pound. Vince laughed at me when I bought it, I had almost ¼ of three different shelves full… told you I was a cheapskate in some respects.
Allie – I’m glad they’re admitting you. That’s where you should be until they figure this whole thing out.

make pickled okra!! I love okra any way but love mom's pickled okra so much. She made me a few jars of it after I was up last time. Not a holiday meal for me without some. Sad when I checked the cupboard on Christmas and there were none.

Butter for $3 a pound- that is a sale here-runs about $5 a pound or more.
Stocked up when they had it marked down at the Asian store. I use a LOT when the holidays come along with all the cracker toffee and caramel corn I make- each batch uses 2 sticks and I make a TON of each along with lots of other candies2 -
I used to make all the Christmas treats, but then noticed really I was the only was scarfing them down. I now just go to specialty stores and buy small containers of things during the holidays for me. This year with the possibility of two sons home its hard to know if I will make stuff. Both probably would rather I cook fried rice! Lots of chicken, or pork fried rice! The boys never really did care for the homemade sweets except they did love fudge!

Sue - I went to a place that had all day breakfast yesterday too. It’s one of my favourite meals in a restaurant.
Kylia - What a stunning view.
Machka - I hope you’re well on the mend and the week doesn’t set you back.
Lisa - I love that sweater! Great job.
Meals - I have tried meal planning and I don’t manage it very well. I tend to stop and grab what I need for supper on the way home. It’s saved money for us I think because we were throwing way too much away.
Allie - I’m glad to see you were admitted, it sucks, but maybe they can get to the bottom of your troubles.
$5 is a good sale price for butter here. It is running around $7.50/lb
I had Kaitlyn, Jasmyne and her twins here for about 5 hours today. It was wonderful.

The biggest box of treats goes to my former hubby-He gets a large Priority box packed full. I know he loves them and really looks forward to all of it-I know his favorites- Just wish shipping wasn't so expensive(and it isn't as expensive as what you have to pay to ship to Japan). His dad and his brothers also get boxes of treats. I do trays of them for a few friends here in town and then little boxes for my classmates at Zumba along with other little gifts.
It used to be something mom and I worked on together(she gave to many people) but the last few years it ended up being I made all of it at her house for both her and I because she was too tired. I did cut back a little as she wasn't giving out as much plus I stayed up there an extra day. At least I get to spend extra time with her.One year I made 20 varieties of fudge-making at least two batches of each kind-one for mom and one for me. I still make at least 10 kinds- all are very simple and I LOVE coming up with new ones each year.
A few are peanut butter , Almond Joy(almonds and coconut) Pina Colada(white cho.with dried pineapple and coconut with some pineapple flavoring added), Mocha Almond, blueberry pecan, cranberry walnut, Espresso, peppermint. Those are the ones I can think of right now- every year I try a new one.
The basic recipe is super simple- I just add to it.
Got it along with some other great ones(caramel corn and cracker toffee) when mom and I took a candy making class over 45 yrs ago at a cake supply type store.
The cracker toffee recipe was the shocker- had it for over 35yrs before I tried it- sounded strange- now that is the all time favorite- I change it up a bit. Instead of just chocolate and walnuts on top, I have tried all kinds of nuts, grated coconut, mini M&Ms, etcDebbie

Hi, just checking in.
Barbara, my DH is not coughing up blood. I thought Carol's DH was.
Carol, how is your DH doing? I may have missed it. Did he get his test done?
Kylia, that recliner on wheels takes the cake. I was just in Gatlinburg last year. That was a relaxing vacation, but we did see many shows.
Margaret, I love your hair, and I am glad that there is such a thing as a 25-dollar haircut.
Lisa, take care of yourself. I love that cream sweater.
Everyone, take care, and I look forward to talking to all of you later today.

My brother and his wife, R&U are here, and currently asleep upstairs. All went well yesterday. My bruv is still having a lot of difficulty eating, and U had to bring all his food and drinks. He managed a teeny tiny bowl of the ragu I made and a couple of ribbons of pasta. Plus a small slice of soft blue cheese. He finds textures difficult, and can only taste salt, sweet etc. He has lost masses of weight, but is cheerful enough. It has been hard on U, of course. We chatted, and U went to bed at 8. R stayed up with us until around 10.30. Lots to catch up on, though John was beginning to look a bit bored with all our family chat.
Today, John is hoping to get to cricket, though it's very windy and could be showery. I expect he will be glad to get away. 😁 We will mooch about and then go out to meet her niece for lunch at the local café. My cleaner is coming at 2, so I have to come back for that, and I will have a nap. They will probably go home mid/late afternoon. I have Zoom at 4.
Lovely to see them. They are easy guests, and we get on very well. John does feel a bit out of it though. R's family is huge, and he doesn't have a clue who most of them are. R is very much engaged at the moment with church utilities (billing problems etc) and choosing a new pastor for next year. Not an easy process. U is hoping to go back to work, after a long sickness absence through anxiety.
But it makes me happy seeing them. Even if it is exhausting!

Grandmallie: I guess you need to fight the best you can until the surgery. I am worried about you and hoping you can stay hydrated. I hope you can keep posting and of course post pictures of the grandchildren!
Heather: Glad the visit is going well. I hope John gets to go to cricket as a reward for listening to all the family chatter!
My son and DIL came last evening and cooked dinner. Such a joy having them close by! I pinch myself and never take it for granted! I think my son likes seeing the house clean.
My schedule is pretty open the next couple of days then I go to the food pantry and have book club, and a luncheon and probably a tabling event the end of the week. Maybe I can get some exercise in!
I cut the lawn but think the blade was too high! I had my son lower it. He also got some Fall decorations out for me and I have these on a couple of tables. I hope the GA heat is over for 2025! I am ready!
Best,
Rosemarie from GA

😄 I don't think I've ever defrosted meat, especially not chicken or mince.
Just pop it in a deep frying pan, pour in a couple cups of hot water, lift the meat so that the water goes under it, turn the stove on at about 7/10 and walk away (to shred some lettuce and cube some raw tomato) until you hear the water hissing. That's when you need to add more water, and maybe some spices … and it's time to pull off the stuff that's thawed so that it floats in the water and cooks and lets the rest thaw.
Put the burrito wraps, grated cheese, shredded lettuce, cubed tomatoes and jar of salsa on the table and the chicken or mince should be done or close to it!
We decide what we want to eat the day of … sometimes minutes before.
I used to cut my own hair. I bent at the waist and flipped my hair forward so it hung down past my face, then I cut it.
After the bad $40 haircut (the cheapest "professional" cut in this area - there are no $25 haircuts here), I figured, I'd just start cutting my own hair again … and then I remember the hairdressing school!!
Nice cardigan!
I've seen those pencil drawings before and they're great! I try to do something like them now and then.

Well feeling better this morning, but my phone is about to die.In his hurry to get bag out of car think charger got dropped in the car somewhere,so if you don't hear from me until tonight just know my phone went caput

Worked from home.
Also washed my sheets and doona cover because it's something I do when I'm on the road to recovery from illness. When I hung them out to dry, the wind died! 😐️😣 About an hour or so later it started again.
At lunch, I went for a short walk and worked on the red hot pokers. I think the red hot pokers are done for now, but will likely have to do more on the weekend.
While I was working, my husband built the shelf for my art stuff. It's in place and I've got most of my stuff on it.
That's one category of stuff sorted - the easiest category.
The wind is supposed to start up again tonight and throughout tomorrow.
The peak gusts last night were 102 km/h (63 mph) in Hobart and 145 km/h (90 mph) but they're saying tomorrow could be worse.
It's the Roaring 40s … they're high in September but sink down closer to Antarctica in a month or two. Meanwhile, little Tasmania gets blasted!

😀 Yesterday I packed the container of Jake's ashes to mail to his granddaughter in Ohio. USPS is the only way to send human ashes and the packaging directions are complicated. USPS sent the special box and packing materials and a pamphlet that explained how to prepare the package. Today i will take the box to the post office to mail. When daughter was here in July she brought containers so she could divide the ashes into portions for everyone. She took hers, her brother is coming this weekend and will pick up his, and I'm mailing a portion to granddaughter who is the daughter of Jake's daughter who died a few years ago. My portion is in the original container from the mortuary and is in the safe.
😀 It was a good day to be in contact with friends—one in person on a walk, one on Zoom from Europe, and two on the phone from out of state.
😀 Allie, glad you are in the hospital where you can get the care and attention you need.
😀 MIchele, I think frugal or thrifty better describes you because cheapskate implies being miserly or stingy. You are a very generous person but make great efforts to do so in a thrifty manner. If you were truly a cheapskate you wouldn't be hosting your daughter and her family or baking all the treats you make for others.

Allie - Thanks for letting us know about the charger. Yes, we are worried about you. I'm glad they kept you in overnight. Sorry you have to wait for the surgery to actually make your life easier. They don't consider the quality of life when they state that these things aren't life-threatening, not at all.
Machka - Something like that windscape would be a lovely abstract painting, all on its own. It does look like your island is right in the firing line, yes! We've already gone through "false fall" and then someone threw another log on the fire - we have a few more days of heat and then the summer is supposed to finally start letting us loose, beginning Thursday/Friday. I'm ready for some cooler temps, just as you're getting ready for spring… I always find that so marvelous.
Heather - So glad you enjoyed the time with your brother and his wife.
Mo, Michele, Rosemarie, Tracey and everyone who commented on the sweater, thank you! It's the first time I've made something that was created to fit someone's measurements. I hope it actually fits when it gets to her… I might yet change out the buttons. Still thinking about it. The color is Vanilla, and it's a bamboo/cotton blend. Washable and dryable, as well!
Need to get to the dermatologist for getting my stitches out at noon today.
While I'm out, I need to pick up a box to get my friend's cardigan mailed, and get one to mail my son's birthday present. Made him this very brightly-colored cotton dishcloth yesterday for his new apartment. Will send him that and a tap light in the shape of a cat that I know he'll like.
He's like me - very distracted by the shiny things! 😅
Was going to go out and get some mowing done today, but pushed it a little too hard yesterday and reactivated the muscles all along that right side. They're not terribly happy with me this morning.
The mowing will wait.
Later, my dears,

Last week on Thursday there was an ambulance and police cars next door with my very private neighbors. They spend half the year here and half in Oklahoma. Yesterday I learned her husband passed away at home I put a flowering plant on her doorstep, and she responded via Facebook about his passing. I did not ring the door bell to give them to her. I knew something serious had happened, and I did not want to intrude. He was in his early 70's.
Up slightly because of the four course meal yesterday…I had a salad, an small egg dish, steak with new potatoes and dessert…I skipped the cinnamon roll, croissant, and corn. So just full not stuffed… If drink plenty of water should come off fast.
Also over the weekend I popped for a new Kindle. My old Kindle is out of date and would not work with my updated Wii. I like to download books for free from my local library. I could have read them on my phone or lab top in bed but I prefer the size of the Kindle and I don't want my cell phone by my bed I have a landline, so I already have a phone by the bed for emergencies. I also like the screen better compared to my phone. I figure it will extend the battery life of both the phone and the laptop, too. So after reading about eight books it will pay for itself. I read about three books a week . I will keep my old Kindle because I did purchase a few Kindle books, and they are on that Kindle.
I created a new account with Amazon. Old Kindle was tied to my husband's account. Another new password to add to the list. There was a glitch or two but I figured them out and good to go. Happy camper!
The thing I like best about down loading books is I can adjust to print size . I remember my mom loved to read, too, and she stopped when the print got too small for her to read. I tried to establish a way for her to get large print books but that never worked out. Now with computers it is easy to do.

R & U have gone home. We had a nice lunch out around the corner with U's niece. I had a fabulous halloumi, falafel, hummus and salad wrap. R had a poached egg. It is really difficult to get him to eat anything. U has to almost force him. He has the protein drinks she brings with her etc. He used to love his food. 😥
After the lunch the three of them went off to trawl the charity shops in Hove. I came home and more or less dozed off, apart from letting the cleaner in. They arrived back when I was in the middle of my Zoom, so I left it to say goodbye, and then resumed. A good visit. I always find it absolutely exhausting though. 😴

Margaret ~ Your birthday treat meal sounds delicious and I know you will burn off any extra calories quickly. I got a new Kindle a couple of weeks ago. I found it a bit harder to get used to than my old one and was disappointed that I could not download Google as that is my favorite search engine. There are online ways to bypass and get a download but I couldn't figure it out so will just use Silk. Another thing different is that the print is not quite as large as on the old one.
Machka ~ Hoping the winds calm down.
Allie ~ Prayers for you!
