You're doing great @ContraryMaryMary . Sounds like Garmin is a bit confused though. Nice run and yeah for beating the rain today!
Hope you enjoyed the fight @tarun_yadavA . Great running.
I hope you feel a bit better every day @SummerSkier .
Nice track run @Teresa502 .
@CMorning99 Humm. I never considered Vandenberg for the T-10 miler. The temps sure do sound a lot better, but it is a little bit further away. LOL Nice wog today. It does make you wonder about how the "ring" decides what "kind" of person you are. I know I am NOT a morning person. @chris_in_cal I would be really surprised if that race is free, but I haven't researched it at all. It would be cool if it is.
@WarmJellyfish It may be the mental part of a long run….which I find really hard too. Sounds like today's run was nice.
Great running @John772016 . I agree that we are our own worst critics. AND I also understand wishing you could do better, even when you know that running at all is a miracle! I'm inspired by the fact that you didn't give up or currently use the nerve pain as an excuse to quit. You're awesome.

Today's run was 7 miles with 8 x hill repeats. It was tough, but I got it done. I was a little shy of the pace on a couple of the repeats, but not too far off. The Half I am running in November is very hilly. I am trying to be more prepared for the hills than I was last year.
@quilteryoyo Unfortunately I did not win a prize with my queso. It was a pretty basic recipe, but I thought it was tasty.
@John772016 I have a Noxgear tracer vest. I usually have it set to rotate between blue and purple. I should probably think about switching it. I wonder if the kids would notice.

I did an early (for me) fasted wun this morning. The temperature was great - 61F (10.5C). The first mile I ran/walked 1/1 minutes, but I felt like I could have walked faster up a couple of the hills, so I started running as long as I felt like it (plus two or three steps) and when I got tired on the hills, I walked. Turns out that was a bit faster. My running splits were 13:26, 13:15 and 12:09 min/mile.
Overall the running pace avg was 13:04 min/mile. Avg HR was 134 with a max of 152 bpm.
For reference, my driveway joins the road about the middle of this hill, where I took these pictures. I can do pretty good running up the hill from my driveway, and of course, back down. But running up from the bottom of the hill is a killer and I don't think I have ever made it the entire way - not that I've tried very hard. LOL
Then there is the hill that is my driveway. This first part is also a killer that I can walk up faster than I can run.

Great run with hill repeats @kgirlhart .

Morning all
Got in 4.99M (meant to be 5.0M) at 10'36
6 -
Well there are no hills in my neighborhood when I look at those photos @quilteryoyo I love that you are the running lady @kgirlhart and of course you had to "even" it out.
The good news here is that I think the virus killer drugs do work and meyHR seems back to normal and no fever for the last few days but my head is STILL stuffy and I have a mild headache so I guess the cold symptoms will take a little whle longer. I am still being careful as i don't want anything of this going south of my head at this point. I wonder if my HR would have stayed high if I had not started the drugs? It was less than 24 hrs in when I did and I was defintely having an immune reaction on Sun. Anyway just going to go for another walk and try to cut down on the "quils" over the next few days if symptoms ease up. Fingers crossed I will test negative on Sun or Mon to go back to work altho technically without any fever the past few days I could go back now (but I would not wish this on anyone!)

I ran 5.29 miles this morning bringing my total to 62.38 for the month. Unless something happens, I think I will make my goal of 100 miles.
Wise words @John772016 . We are the lucky ones.
Thanks for being considerate of others with your germs @SummerSkier – if only everyone else was!
4 -
You WILL see a report of a run on here later today. If you don't, that won't be good for me mentally at all.
5 -
@chris_in_cal Yep, we are west coast central Cali.
@quilteryoyo The signs I saw was for a T-10 Miler on Vandenberg SFB, so it might be free…you would need base access or a sponsor. But free also means bare minimum LOL. Marked course…and maybe water? LOL. They did have a cool trail run on base last month I think, I don't think it was a race per se, just a run. We also have a half marathon in Oct too. It is nice they do that since there are only 1 or 2 for profit races per year within 75 miles of here…weird…I guess the demographics don't support it.
3 -
Yesterday was a keep the HR down z3 run. Aka a lot of walking. Original plan, do a 7k, halfway decided due to sore-ish legs, smoke haze, maybe drop to 6k, then towards the end, found the legs still chugging along ended up with the 7k anyways, indecisions indecisions 🙄blaming it on the hormones.
@John772016 hear hear on the being the lucky ones. Happy I can still do runs when over half of my high school cohorts can barely walk these days.
@quilteryoyo oooo love that driveway hill! The masochist in me going yummm hr training… 🤩
@angf0679 good luck on the run!
@Teresa502 go gurl go!
@SummerSkier sorry to hear, hope you mend soon
@tarun_yadavA good run!
@kgirlhart nice vest. You got me thinking about needing one for the upcoming dark of the night winter runs. Sunset is at 4.30pm in December here.
@ContraryMaryMary headwinds can be challenging for sure. When we have a chinook here it can be like running into a hurricane.
4 -
Nice run @tarun_yadavA .
I hope your nose clears up soon @SummerSkier . Glad you didn't have it any worse. Staying home until Monday is probably a good idea for everyone. And, yes, my hills are killers. LOL
Great running @Teresa502 ! 100 miles is impressive. I'm struggling to make 80. LOL
@CMorning99 I am assuming, as a retiree, that I would have access to the base. Just not sure I won't to go that far for a race. I'll check it out though.
Nice running @WarmJellyfish .
1 -
Hello @CMorning99 that's great. A lot of my family live there, and some work on the base at Vandenberg. I also went to Uni nearby at Cal Poly SLO.
It's a truly beautiful area of rugged mountains, raging seas and mostly year round good weather. World class place to be outside and active.

Missed easy 5km on Wednesday evening, twinge in the back in the same place where I had pain 5yrs ago which stopped me running. Thought about making it up on Thursday, instead just gave myself a break.
It was worth it, Friday morning 5km, a minute faster than last week.

It rained at lunch! Since I can't take a hot shower after a rain run at work, that's why I didn't go. It was the only time I had to go yesterday
I did do some yoga last night. Maybe that's why the soreness across my shoulders is worse today then yesterday.
2 -
Nice runs @kgirlhart , and @tarun_yadavA .
Congrats on the improvement @username301 .
Hopefully you can get out for a run today @angf0679 .

@quilteryoyo Fridays leave me little time to run. I take a shorter lunch break to leave earlier, to get home and get ready for the kids program I work in at my church in the evenings. I don't get home until close to 9pm and most nights still need supper at that time

Last evening was my usual quickie trail stroll through the trees. Didn't feed as many bugs this time. I fed off some wild Saskatoon berries instead for extra energy 😁

So, there was a reason behind my question whether there were many UK ppl. Its obviously just one of those weird coincidences where UK and America are separated by a common language & I am sure it means nothing to any Americans, but:
The acronym used for Walking & Jogging (1st comment) is, in the UK a (fairly anachronistic) racial slur. Its not something you'd ever hear anyone use in the UK outside of the far far right and when it is said, is always done with malice.
I've gone back and forth on whether I was going to mention this, as its obviously entirely coincidental & nine times out ten I'm sure any british person would think, oh thats a coincidence. Everyone here is very supportive/inclusive, I thought I should at least mention it because i could imagine a scenario (albeit unlikely) where someone could unintentionally say the wrong thing.

Back home from summer vacation. Elevation running is over as it's too flat here. One day of resting after running 10km, 2 days of traveling, one day of utter exhaustion. And today I still have a lot of fluid retention, which causes muscle stiffness. Anyway. Back home.
Noticed something interesting: while on vacation I had no other option than to start my run uphill. My hr remained unusually low until the downward section happened, where it was lower anyway, then uphill again and it never got up either. I had the suspicion for a while that running uphill results in lower heartrate than on flat roads. Today my heartrate was as usual again. Oh well…3 -
That does make it tough @angf0679 .
Glad you ate more than you were eaten today @WarmJellyfish . 🤣
@username301 I find the differences in meanings of words interesting.
Welcome home @yirara . It looked like you had a great vacation. Maybe your HR was lower because you weren't stressed from "life" while on vacation.

Yesterday, I had on my calendar that I was working 8-5. So, got up early and went in, only to find the person I thought I was subbing for was there. The director wasn't there yet, so I went ahead and helped in another class until I could talk to her. Turns out, she only needed me from 12-5…miscommunication somewhere. I had the option to stay and work, or clock out and come back later. I had several things I wanted to get done that I could do in town, so I clocked out at 9.
It was still relatively cool, so decided to do a walk so I wouldn't have to worry about it later. I had hoped to not sweat, but that was a fail. I don't know why I sweat so much without a ton of exertion. The walk avg pace was 14:41 min/mile. Avg HR was 108 with a max of 127 bpm.
This is sweaty me sitting in my car right after finishing the walk.
After work, I played social tennis for over 1.5 hours. It was fun. We had a couple of new people come..one of which is new to tennis but really pretty good.
Today, I did a longish run on the driveway and out the road, ending the 4 miles at mom's and then, after a chat, did a cool down walk home. It was another struggle breathing today…had to stop to catch my breath a couple of times. But, I got it done and was a bit quicker overall that the last time I did this route. Avg pace was 12:53 min/mile. Avg HR was 131 with a max of 155 bpm.

I ran 6 miles today. It was a tempo run. I did pretty good with the paces until the cool down. I saw the high school cross country team out running. It was about 6:30 and still dark. I have seen them several times lately and it always frustrates me because most of them are wearing dark colors and none have lights or reflective gear. I sped up some to try to catch them. I couldn't, partly because they were just too far ahead of me starting out, but mostly because they are high school kids and I am 57. But one young man stopped to tie his shoe so when I reached him I told him that I wasn't trying to be a grouchy old woman, but that they needed to be wearing light colors when they are running in the dark. And I suggested they get some reflective tape or glow sticks. I'll be curious to see next week if he passed my suggestions on or if anyone takes my advice. But honestly, those kids are hard to see and it worries me for them to be running in the dark like that. So my cool down ended up being one of my fastest segments.

Hi @username301
Nice to meet you. Whereabouts in England are you?
I don't think there's any malice at all in the acronym 'wog' , and it's purely an across-the-pond coincidence.
In the same way, we use the word 'F*g' for cigarette. In my across-the-pond experience, I have heard/seen the shock/WTH! expressions (especially Big city Blue Americans) when Brits casually use that word.
It's all good!
I started posting here in autumn 2022. Nothing but love and support, and great ppl here.

Nice runs @ContraryMaryMary, @kgirlhart, @quilteryoyo, @tarun_yadavA, @Teresa502, @username301, @WarmJellyfish, @yirara, @Zaxa2021 & @chris_in_cal!
Glad to hear you're on the road to recovery @SummerSkier!
Your hills would make my calves really sad @quilteryoyo! & sweat happens🤷♂️!
The kids would definitely notice a colour change @kgirlhart! Colour commentary in the 1st spoiler (maybe 2nd? MFP a bit clunky). If it's got a 'strobe' feature they will probably cheer as they passed you @kgirlhart!
I was honestly curious about the colour as I've noticed it seems around me that some get noticed by some drivers more than others. Suspect for me it has to do with city running & what colours they may be used to seeing.
Neon pink tends to get noticed the most by drivers around here (Got an arm/leg band with a neon pink light from a charity run I did for breast cancer).
Neon green works too but only if really dark. Neon yellow isn't noticed very well at all which surprised me as I thought it was the brightest. Blue & Purple would likely work well for me.
Saw your comment also @kgirlhart about the high school team; Think it's good you mentioned your concern. I'm quite glad the HS teams near me are lit up like Vegas when they run past!
I've been almost hit too many times even though well lit/reflective & having the right of way (lol), that I've purposely moved my runs to later morning (being unemployed worked in my favour in that case)

My physiotherapist asked me to reduce my running by 75%, due to my ongoing nerve pain, then made me promise I would. I said I'd consider it, though since I know I'm not overtraining…..
This morning's race info in 2nd spoiler (or 3rd?)This morning's race was the 5K RBC Race for the Kids (raising money for kids dealing with mental health issues).
It's the 4th consecutive year I've run it, as it's a good cause, it's popular run in my neighbourhood, & it's registration sells out each year. Also, it is about a 5 min walk from my condo to the start line (got to love convenience on a race)!
It was about 11⁰C / 52⁰F this morning as I made my way to the start.
It was a beautiful running morning… though, I was happy when each time we hit the sunshine!I'm happy to say my month of worsts finally came to an end!
While not my best performance on this particular race, it was my best performance on a 5K race for 2025!I finished in the top 6% of the runners/walkers on the race today.
One of the reasons I really like this 5K is that about 4-5 mins after I make the turn around point, I hit the crest of the slight hill that I'd previously run up (& now thankfully running down!) and see about half of the route off into the distance in the south.
As far as my old eyes can see, there were literally thousands of runners & walkers heading up to the turn around. It is an awesome sight and so motivating to continue pushing.
Today I was told they sold out with over 8,200+ participants.
On a 5K, that kind of turnout is amazing!6
