Barbara AHMOD - Dang it, I knew I missed one earlier! So pleased the news is good for Tumble. I know that was terribly traumatic for all concerned, and could to see the bright red covering isn't bothering your furbaby too much.
Headed into town again…
Trying to beat the rain again…
Hopefully I do that better than yesterday! 😲⛈️🌧️☔🐈⬛
Egg is inside, so it may begin earlier than predicted…

Heather—- I read everything I could get my hands on including Dad's newspaper (did the crossword when I got old enough to figure it out) and the back of boxes, I would spend summer afternoons at the library that had a swing set in the back we were allowed to use. I would sit on that swing and get lost in a book. Anything outside, rode bikes or walked to the library to the local 'milk' store, to my high school (6 miles away), and baseball with the boys (girls were not allowed on teams back then) I was better than the boys at batting and catching ( Couldn't run well or throw well due to allergies and asthma un-diagnosed), played in the woods by my house a lot too. Built little lean-tos to hide in and read. TV was limited to the 3 channels that came in and after dark or Saturday mornings only. But mostly, reading, doing homework, and biking around town.
My nerves are still on high.
Allie, I'm praying for you. My nephew who has kidney failure is giving up because he is only getting sicker. He's waiting for a new kidney and is doing dialysis. Besides his parents (my brother and his wife), I am the only relative that contact him. I'm so glad that you Allie have a strong support system, especially the ladies on this thread.

Funny, because I just got an email invoice for McAfee, which is the newest scam. If you get a McAfee Invoice through email, especially from an address you don't know, it's just the latest scam.
Considering how nuts the scammers are getting, I thought this was funny:

Had our ex hired person for dinner last night and she brought a bottle of Chianti. Trouble. My sleep was destroyed and my insides just feel like jello this morning. Blech. It barely takes any alcohol now to feel the effects, both during and after, so I don’t drink often but man do I enjoy a good wine even though I suffer its effects. I have tried non alcoholic but it’s expensive and not very good. I am starting a new workout series today- mainly strength training. It’s a 12 week program but it will take me longer as I take more rest days than she does.
Barbara- best healing wishes for Tumble. Dogs are so brave post op- they seem to just want to get on with living life 🩷
Lanette- we are definitely on the same wavelength. I often wonder about the genetic link in families and T2. I do enjoy the physical work, although there is less of it now as I move into retirement. The cows banged me around a lot in practice and I have a lot of metal in my body from injuries. They are so big, strong, and fast!
Lisa- I truly LOL’d at your son’s “caretaker” role 😜 My gosh those kids get it backwards most times. Mine left this morning- gloriously quiet here and will have minimal cooking- just me and hubs and the doggos. Looking forward to just the 2 of us until next week. We should be able to survive without them 😉
Kevrit- great volleyball dad joke 😂 That bear has a wicked swing.
Heather- As a kid, any activity or sport was my happy place, and when I got home it was reading.
Rebecca- Soooooooo close to Onderland! Stay excited… it’s coming
Pip- so impressed on your painted tubs. Especially the paw prints ☺️ I so wish I had the artistic ability to do that.
Mo- Brain over binge taught me that my bingeing started with restrictive eating in my teens. My “animal brain”, the one focused on keeping you alive, then developed a neural pathway to develop the binge habit. That habit is what needs to go, and the less you give into it, the weaker it becomes until your brain realizes it doesn’t need it. It doesn’t involve white knuckling through the urge to binge, it requires you to recognize it as a thought from the animal brain, but then have the conscious brain recognize it as noise and ignore it. It actually works. She says the only way to stop bingeing was to literally stop bingeing by using her thinking brain and not let her animal brain have her repeat the cycle over and over. She says that she still has problems, and stressors, and has issues with her body but these were not the reasons she binged because they are still there but no longer cause her to binge. Continuing to restrict will make it hard to do because the animal brain will kick inwhen it starts to feel threatened again by restriction. So you have to trust yourself and eat to fuel your body so your brain no longer thinks it’s restricted.
Your job sounds stressful and difficult but I imagine at times can be highly rewarding 🙂Machka- congrats on your success in the pool. It has inspired me to get out and swim at least once a week. I hope to go on Saturday.
Carol- healing wishes for your husband 💗
Barbie- garage cleaning is on my to do list this weekend. Stuff just gets piled in there over the summer.
Take care everyone!

Carol - best wishes to your DH. I have been there with the blood clots and it can be very scary when you can't breathe.
Childhood activities that made time pass quickly were reading and anything to do with horses, riding, shows even just grooming.
Annie - do you have a therapeutic riding program anywhere near you? With your experience with horses you would make a good side walker or leader volunteer. Sorry about your dad but sounds like it might be time for more help.
Still in sunny SanDiego. Spent a little too much time time in the pool yesterday and the dog was sure I had left forever. He wouldn't even eat his treat. He finally decided I was back to stay but clung close the rest of the day.
Barbara - so glad Tumble is doing well.
Everyone take care, Sue in San Diego for now

I dunno man, I’m seriously thinking this may be my last 1/2 marathon. My heart is just not into it. I did the 5.30 miles as scheduled today but I just don’t think I want to anymore. I was looking back and my 1st half was in 2010 or 2011 and that was the Seattle 1/2 marathon. That would have made me 51 or 52. That’s a pic of me on the Seattle time.they printed that I was crying with joy, uh no I wasn’t, I was screaming in pain!
So I did 3 full marathons in 2014, 2015 and 2016. Then I went back to 1/2’s from 2017 to now. This would make 10 1/2 marathons. I think that would be a good time to quit, don’t you? I will then just do 10k (6.2 miles) and I may even walk those. I guess I’m trying to tell myself it’s okay and I don’t have to do 3 more like I originally planned. Kirby stopped at 69 so 3 more and I would stop at 69. I am trying to talk myself into it and not feel like a loser.

Annie – thanks for checking in. We’ve all been worried aboutyou. I’m so sorry your dad’s getting worse. How hard it is for you! I’m glad you’re trying yoga. It IS a good outlet, just something for “you”
Took Ganon for a walk
Counted the donations at the church yesterday since the gal who is there her husband is going for a biopsy today (not sure what for).
Carol – prayers for you and your hubby
Melanie – Stormy is SOOOOOOO cute. Thanks for sharing
pip – YOU ARE NOT A LOSER!!!!! Not by any stretch of the imagination. I’m in awe of all you’ve done as it is. You have to do what your heart tells you to do, and if it’s telling you not to do any more ½ marathons, listen to your heart. Lenny probably has his hand in it, anyway. Maybe he wants you to spend more time with Kirby.
Allie – I keep meaning to ask you, are you in contact any with Carmine?
Went to ceramics and picked up my M&M bank

Annie - My brother hired someone for 4 hours a week to come help my Mom when she needed help with personal care. It was more dignified for both of them.
The person also visited with her and gave her some companionship. It was paid for through a social program in the province.Carol - I hope they find some answers for your DH soon.
What did I do as a child? - I was really into arts and crafts even then. I did latch hook, coloured, used bits and bobs to make different things. My absolute favourite thing though was Barbie’s. I made massive rooms and furniture using facecloths for bedspreads, wrapping paper for wallpaper. Since it was also the era of Dallas and Dynasty they had to have statues, and glitz, my grandmother’s salt and pepper shakers became my statues and crystal necklaces became wall decor.Yes, I still played with Barbie’s and watch adult tv. We only had one tv and one room to sit in so I saw it all. 😂
Lisa - Lauryn read like you. We once grounded her from reading because it was all she did. It’s still all she does. I wish I would have known then that she had ADHD I never once would have suspected it. I apologize to her a lot. She keeps telling me it’s not our fault “they” didn’t know better.
I almost fell for a scam today on FB, it was a Barilla Pasta “giveaway” if you answered a survey. I did and it said I earned a free box of a variety of pastas. I filled out all the info for my name and address and then it asked for my credit card to pay for shipping. 😩. I stopped and backed out and have been keeping an eye on my email and changing passwords since.
Allie - I love your shirt. Jonah and Michaela fed a crow some fries on Saturday. Jonah even managed to get a selfie with the crow.
Pip - I think if you’re not into it you shouldn’t do it.
Michele - cute bank.
I went to the dentist after work tonight, they finished the scaling they started last week, and I had a filling. I go again on Oct 21 for another filling.
I am so scared of going to the dentist, but this new one is incredible. I really didn’t even feel the needle for the freezing, when he was done he told me I could breathe, apparently I had been holding my breath.Tomorrow after work I have a massage appointment. This week is going to fly!

Barbara - I can imagine how great it must feel to have Tumble back home with you. That was quite an expedition! Phew! 💕
Carol - So sorry things are stressful right now. Sending healing thoughts to your husband. 🤗
Yesterday's dinner was a mix. Edie was so happy with her crocs, and enjoyed fitting her gizzbitz on them. Bea was feeling very put out by it all, and proceeded to have a toddler strop for the first half of dinner. The stew was excellent, but my poor son was exhausted by his efforts with the cake, which had taken him 3 hours the night before. No more Swiss rolls! 😫 We've brought the interior design book that I bought her back with us, so Edie and I can look at it together.
I wasn't feeling tip top, but revived during the Great British Bake Off.

Oh boy, what a business organising a trip to London to meet up with my schoolfriends in November. They are all staying a couple of nights, but that's not on the table for me. I proposed going up on a day trip, having a civilised early lunch at the National Portrait Gallery (great view) and then pop in next door for an exhibition at the National Gallery of the neo-impressionists. It proved to be very convoluted and required much, much, messaging, (🙄😚), but I have booked the exhibition for 2.15, and P has booked the restaurant for 12. Let's hope all goes well and there are trains. 😯

Aged Care Assistance
In Australia, we have a website which walks a person through an initial assessment process for help. You can choose between help at home or assistance with the transition into an aged care facility. As part of the process it asks what you or the person in question needs assistance with. And it goes on from there.
https://www.myagedcare.gov.au/
Presumably the US as a whole or individual States within the US might have something similar.

As always, FB ads are not safe.
FB and other sites have purchased the rights to one or more huge ad databases. They don't own the databases and it isn't up to them what the databases include. They just have the right to post ads from the database onto their sites. The specific ads that show up on each of our pages are chosen by algorithms (code) which tap into the cookies and whatever is gleaned from our google searches, etc. on our computers. We've all noticed, I'm sure, how we can change the ads we see by doing searches. So for example, if I don't like the ads I see, I'll do a search for ladies dress shoes and the ads will change to ladies dress shoes. But of course, I won't buy from the ads - they're just there for decoration. Something pleasant to look at. If I want ladies dress shoes, I'll go directly to a site.
And it's a good idea to clear our cookies now and then.
Incidentally, Barilla refers to several species of salt-tolerant (halophyte) plants that, until the 19th century, were the primary source of soda ash and hence of sodium carbonate. The word "barilla" was also used directly to refer to the soda ash obtained from plant sources.

Hey, kids - Very wet morning outside, so I'm inside for a bit, but might wander out after lunch to get the cardboard on the burn pile. No fire would keep burning right now, as it would be soaked in minutes. Only supposed to get up to 74 today (23C), very comfortable. I love fall…
Before I burn cardboard, I need to peel quite a bit of it out to use on the floor in the spare bedroom to protect the old parquet floor. Have almost got the room to the point where I can put drywall mud on the walls, but have been told in no uncertain terms that I can't take power tools to the drywall to fit the last piece. I think it would work just fine… 😲👀😂
Once that's up, the mud can go on… but in the meantime, I can get a lot of cleaning done and get it ready to paint in other ways. The prep always takes longer than the painting, in the end. But there aren't any deadlines - we're not using those bedrooms, and the one we just finished isn't usable because it has all the extra storage racks in there, blocking the bed.
Teaching myself English paper piecing at the moment, which has potential, although I'm not sure I can do it for an entire quilt. But I may not be able to sustain the patience to keep latch hooking a rug for the spare bedroom. The canvas, with just three rows done, is sitting there glaring at me. I keep thinking of doing it, then veering off to other things.
Which reminds me:
Pip - Someone else said it, and I'm kind of chiming in. As you noted, you and Kirby have always been too intent on your personal performance to talk to each other when you're running. Maybe you would enjoy the time talking with him while you both walk, rather than keep training to do a run that no longer thrills you anymore. When you don't have to win anymore or even beat your own time from last time, it's a lot easier to enjoy your life together. You've never been a loser, and you never will be. And that's from someone else who thought she had to be the best at everything.
Melanie - Stormi looks very proud of her scruffy little self. The joy that dogs bring to their lives, as well as ours, is so wonderful.
Allie - Miles has a good eye for a photo!
Heather - Looks like fun was had by all (except possibly Bea). Sorry she wasn't happy about not being the center of attention. The pictures are just wonderful, though. Still holding off on getting Netflix to catch up to the Great British Baking Show. Each episode drops here three to four days after it comes on in the UK…
Back to my paper piecing…
Love,
Lisa in AR5 -
😀 Pip, when I find myself pushing to accomplish something or meet a huge goal, I ask myself, "Whose rule is this, anyway" When I realize that it is my rule (or goal), I realize that I can change it because no one cares about it but me. Your running goals sound like rules you've made for yourself so you can change them any time you want. You accomplish so much that changing the balance wouldn't hurt anything. I understand that it probably acknowledges that you are getting older, it is worth thinking about.
😀 Heather, great pictures of a great celebration.

Hello Ladies. I guess time has flown much faster than I thought. It’s already the end of September and I hadn’t even bookmarked the month. So, there is just no way I’ll catch up.
Hugs to those who need them! Congrats to those who’ve had good things!
My month has obviously been “busy.” We went away for 4 nights for my birthday at the end of August and I just haven’t “caught up” since. It was a lovely time in the mountains. Hiking, eating, watching critters, wine tasting. He got me a new set of nice German knives. He knows me.
Then we went to see the Savannah Bananas and made a day/evening of it. That was a fun time. Then I turned around and worked a conference for a week. That’s always exhausting. Then I left 3 days later fora whirlwind trip to visit family. My dad got an honor and I went to the ceremony. I learned something new about my dad. He started the women’s sports program at the first high school he taught at back in the early 70s. Before that, there were no women in sports there.
Anyway, I need a lot of recovery after all that.
The mister started a new full-time job this week. I’m not sure that was the right choice, but at least he likes the work. I hope they will be flexible and let him work from home a few days a week or it will be a short lived thing. The traffic is horrendous. Took him 1:20 to come home last night. Less than 20 miles.
The positive is the group insurance. It’s much better than what we currently have. That’s a reason to work that is well worth some amount of struggle….though not as much as sitting in traffic for 2+ hours a day.
I have been able to start decluttering the house. With him around, the more I declutter, the faster he re-clutters. I also started my strength training program again. I hope to keep it up now that I can do it on my schedule.
I hope you’re all having a great week!

Does anyone else have a Creami machine? My daughter got me one last Christmas and I am eating one a day. Make it with 1 cup of whole milk, a scoop of protein powder (whatever flavour) some creatine and collagen. Freeze it them mix it in the machine. Absolutely delicious and gets a lot of protein in.
Just got word that one of my volleyball players is sick. I only have 7 so we are down to the nitty gritty. I wish more kids would play. We are such a small school. It seems like in years past most everyone played- you went from volleyball to basketball to badminton then track. It’s disheartening for me as sport was such a huge part of my life and organized sport for girls typically ends at high school. I understand it’s not as important for all but sometimes just being a part of a team helps smooth some of the rough patches in high school. Wish us luck… mainly that everyone remains healthy and injury free.
Still super dry here. The dust from our gravel roads is suffocating and you can’t keep anything clean. Very windy today as well which doesn’t help. I never thought I’d pray for rain as much as I do since moving to the ranch. I grew up in the city and rain was usually a bummer.
Pip- first of all 🩷 You have accomplished so much! Training for halfs was time consuming and to tell you the truth- quite stressful on my body once I entered menopause. I usually gained weight during my 12 week training programs. I think if it hadn’t been for this knee replacement, I’d be pounding out the miles just to prove something to myself. But I have found walking, biking, and swimming to be as fulfilling. I see the knee as a gift in disguise to listen more to my body and do things it likes, and not things that stress it out. Even if you “quit”, you may be inspired to do a 10k down the road. Really a breeze compared to a half or full. WE ARE NOT LOSERS! We are just evolving… gracefully 💁🏻♀️
Tracy- the dentist is absolute torture for me. I had a molar pulled after a root canal went wrong. They wanted to put a fake in its place but I really don’t think I can do it. You can’t see the space so it doesn’t bother me. I have been avoiding going back for over a year now. I will have to get my big girl pants on one of these days and face them.
Heather- My mom loved leopard print. She has passed but whenever her adult grandkids see it they always yell “Baba style”! Thanks for the pics- that made me smile as well as how you celebrated. Birthdays are my favourite.
Take care all,
Melanie, Alberta

Lisa and Debbie - how are your tomatoes doing? Mine are just about done. Looks like my last dry day here will be Saturday, so everything not ripe yet (I'm talking half a dozen medium sized ones) will be brought into the house to finish ripening on the windowsill. They were great while they lasted.
Lisa - sounds like you are making great progress on your room. When you get finished, I have one or two here that need that attention, lol.
Annie - getting someone in to help your dad shower sounds like a good idea. I don't think I would be very comfortable helping a male bathe that wasn't my husband.
Allie - your haircuts are always so cute. SMiles is getting to know is way around the phone camera.
Pip - very wise comments here on your consideration of stopping the marathons. My DH's cousin was a later in life marathoner - started in his 40's as a way to keep "high" or maybe busy when he stopped drinking. 😁 He did well and placed in marathons, then in his late 50's, had a back injury that the running somehow exacerbated. Walked away, grateful for the memories and now he's heavy into painting abstracts of all things. Love YOUR painted flower boxes, by the way.
Melanie - I can imagine working with large animals can be quite hazardous, not surprised you have some metal in your body. I don't know if sheep are considered large animals, but I know several shepherds whose knees met with a ram's head and ended up with surgeries. 😣 Our rams were horned so I was able to grab and throw them before they'd make contact.
Looks like the Raindance here the Pacific Northwest is paying off starting this weekend. Melanie - let's hope some of it blows up your way.
Margaret - thank you once again for the beautiful flower photos. Do your flowers smell as good as they look throughout the year?
Tina - you have been busy this past month. Good insurance is worth a lot, for sure. Yes, it would be neat if your mister could work some days at home. Years ago we really lived in the boonies and both worked in Seattle, and the commute was around 50 minutes. But the good thing was that it was not stop and go, so at least we were able to zip along. DH soon bought a Honda Civic to save on gas.
It's another warm(er) sunny day here so I'm playing catchup outside.
Meeting M for lunch tomorrow - she had her eyelids done several weeks ago. They were "hooded" and impairing her vision. Can't wait to see how she looks - it was a fairly minor procedure so probably not much evident except for her.

Lolol, we don’t like talking to each other when we ride or run because we don’t want to waste our oxygen, lololol. We’ve always said, we’ll talk when the run or ride is over. When we walk the kids every morning, we still don’t talk to each other maybe 90% of the time. We both like the quiet I guess plus the cars passing by makes it hard to hear because most of the time he’s walking behind me.
Well, after much thought, and input from som of you ladies and Kirby of course, this is it. I will be going down to 10k if I do the run next year. I am still riding and doing the MS bike ride, not sure how much longer I’ll be doing that, maybe til I’m 70? Today was my 4.20 mile run and it was a decent pace, 10.14 minute mile. No mater how good or fast I feel, I have to promise myself that this will be the last one. Thanks for your thoughts.
