Hugs to you Carol during this stressful time at the hospital. Thing of us in your back pocket.💖
Allie you are a fierce warrior! Keep on keeping on!💖👍🏼
Pip, I love the painting on the flower containers! I love your artistic abilities! Very sweet!
Heather, looks like Bea's party was a grand success! All your grandchildren are growing into such caring and considerate humans! Those crocks are cute. I have tried rolling cake into a Swiss roll. It was a major disaster! Lots of frosting to conceal the breaks. Tell him he did marvelous!
Today is a lazy day. I just have no energy. I will go for a nice walk later this afternoon. I took a nice long shower. Loving my shower scrubber. Got it online and its a soft square of Terry cloth on one side, and scrubber mesh on the other. Around the edge is a soft string inside the edges. You put a bar of soap in the middle and draw up the string. It has a round catch thingy on the string so it stays drawn up around the soap bar. Getting it wet, it makes hearty suds! I'm like a toddler seeing how sudsy I can get!😂
Today I might make some mini meatloaves! Just kind of woke up to the word meatloaf.

Hi Ladies, I've been out of the loop for a while and trying to get back into taking care of my health. Good to see this group still active. Hello again from Penny in South TX
10 -
Tracey – phew! Good thing you didn’t give your cc number out. So glad you found a good dentist
Everyone who commented on the bank – thank you. Is that not appropriate for Vince or is that not appropriate?
Heather – Edie is growing up!
Tina – happy belated birthday. Sounds like you had a great time. Glad to hear your hubby got a job, but sad that the commute is so terrible
Melanie – doing a rain dance for you
Melanie – I can’t help but think of when Jess sent us a pic when she was in vet school inseminating (was it?) a cow. All I can remember is how she had this glove on that went up to her elbow and she’d just pulled her arm out of a cow. I could never do that
Rita – LOL Huggies, etc
I have a bit of a dilemma. Jess is supposed to cook on MwandF. Today she wanted to do takeout Chinese. I just don’t want her or us to fall into the routine of constant take out. Buy something and bring it home. Last time she bought pizza I had to put it in the oven and by the time we ate, it wasn’t warm at all. Not to mention that take out is expensive. $53 for two pizzas. And then they wanted a tip! At work she finally decided to make sloppy joes so I went to the store (just got back) to get meat (ground turkey – she has some in the freezer but it would never have thawed in time) and sloppy joe mix. I’m trying to think of a gentle way to suggest that perhaps on Sun. she should decide what she’s having each night she’s to cook. I don’t mind going to the store and getting the ingredients. By deciding in advance she can take out of the freezer what she needs. I’m making a jambalaya tomorrow and I was going to get anduille (or however it’s spelled) but C suggested I use these chicken apple things they had saying “it’s healthier”. I took them out of the freezer last night and they’ll be thawed by tomorrow. I don’t want to hurt their feelings, but constant take out not only isn’t good for you, it also looks like you didn’t put any thought into your meal. I realize that working is time consuming, but I’d like to help her in setting aside some time when she’s not working to plan. What are your thoughts?

Melanie ~ That’s a cute photo of Stormi! Hope you get the needed rain soon.
Sue ~ Enjoy your time in San Diego!
Barbie ~ Good advice to PIP.
Tina ~ Sounds like you had some fun trips over the past month.
Rebecca ~ Glad you like your scrubber. I like meat loaf a lot.
Allie ~ Glad to hear Carmine is staying in touch with her parents and and finding her way into adult hood
Michele ~ I really think that you may get to the point of not worrying about J & C’s dinner plans and just let them do what they want. The only person you should be responsible for are you and your husband.
Hanging in there with DH's hospital stay. It's like the dr's have a really difficult time agreeing on the treatment. He is supposed to get a scope of his lungs tomorrow and I hope it goes through.
Carol in GA

Allie – phew! You don’t need implants. What good news! I’m sorry you’re not in contact with Carmine, but at least she’s keeping in touch with her parents. I’m sure they’re passing info. About her on to you.
Bowling tonight.

Carol … so very sorry to hear about your husband's blood clots! I'll be praying that tomorrow's lung scope goes well for him and provides definitive answers.
Annie … I agree with the advice you've received from others regarding home health care. I would not bathe my father …. my mother, yes … father, no.
Heather … wonderful photos of your family!
Rita … addiction is a disease with many components and addiction is fueled by choices. Not a black and white situation by any means.
Childhood question …. I spent hours and hours and hours reading, followed by day dreaming, riding my bicycle and swimming when a pool was available.
Pip … a loser??? I was going to get MY boot out and give you a swift quick … but then I thought, who the heck am I kidding? Pip will have that boot off my foot in no time and kick me with it! Seriously. A loser?🤦♀️

Carol - I think I'm just getting frazzled that Vince is on my case about making sure dinner is ready in time to go bowling. Like it would kill us to go late! I need to stop and breath. I'm awestruck how well C&J work together. It's all good and working out. It's working out with the two of us. I'd just like for her to be prepared, but this may very well be working for her and I need to learn to live with that.

Our fridge popped out. Thank goodness our fridge isn’t nearly as full as others that i have seen. We have a garage fridge and a portable one. The thing is only like 4 years old! Refrigerators are expensive!
11 -
Pip - oh, no! Sorry about that fridge. Are you getting it fixed or just buying a new one? Yes, good it wasn't full. Every time I open mine I pat it and thank it. I believe it's going on about 8 years. Sears Kemore. Probably made by Whirlpool.
Lisa - I just saw a video for focaccia made with frozen bread dough in a cast iron skillet. A store in town carries fresh sourdough dough in their refrigerated section, think I'll pick up a bag and give it a try. Do you make your own dough? Do you bake it on a cookie sheet? It always sounded so good when you said you were making some.
Credit card… I got a letter from Discover Card telling me if I don't charge something by mid-November, they are closing the account since I haven't used it in 18 months. We used this card all the time until Amazon came out with their Visa and rewards, so I stuck the Discover Card back somewhere to have in case of an emergency where I couldn't use the Visa.
Well, I "stuck it back" so well I haven't been able to find it, lol.
But it's listed on my Amazon account as a secondary card so I made a little purchase with it this morning. I have a few more places to look and if I don't find it, I'll have them issue me a new card.

I had to go to the dentist, when I got back, he got it working with the help of phone support. We’ll see how long that lasts

Lanette - I make my own, but I always have yeast around… super easy, and this is the half recipe, and yes, I baked it on a sheet pan. No kneading whatsoever. Recipe:
Yeast, honey, water, flour and kosher salt. Olive oil for your hands and oiling bowls and pans.
1/2 package of active dry yeast, 1 teaspoon of honey, and 1 1/4 cups of lukewarm water in a medium bowl, whisk together, let sit for five minutes. If it gets creamy and/or foams up, your yeast is OK, if not, start again with a new envelope of yeast.
Add 2 1/2 cups (315 grams) of all-purpose flour, and 1 tbsp kosher salt and mix with a rubber spatula until a shaggy dough forms and no dry streaks remain. Oil a larger bowl with olive oil, and tip the shaggy mess into it. Will double in the fridge in eight hours or one to four hours in a warm place.
If you want slightly thicker bread, use a 9x9 pan. For reasonably thin bread, use olive oil to grease up a sheet pan, push the dough down, gently put the dough into the pan and use oiled hands to spread it out slightly. Let sit in a warm place to double once more. Use your fingers to dimple it all over, like you're playing the piano. Bake at 450 for 20 to 30 minutes.
Sprinkle with a little more salt on the bread once it's done, if you want it.
As far as tomatoes, they're on their last legs, for sure, but Corey will probably get one more jar of jam out of them. My morning glories are nearly done, too, but the hummingbirds are still visiting them every day. I expect they'll be heading south before too long.
Penny - Welcome back!

This is my friend A. I took her to 2 symphony performances last week for her 82nd birthday. She is like a mother to me.
Ginny: Hope your son and DIL have an easy delivery.
Michele: Would Jess consider using her free days to pre cook some entrees to freeze so that meal prep on their days is easier?
Heather: I love the latest family photos. Those kids are growing so fast.
Allie: Stay positive and focused your healing. I worry about you.
Carol: Sorry about your husband's medical challenges. Hope they at least keep him comfortable.
Annie: When DH started to neglect his hygiene the Alzheimer's 24 hour support line was a source of great advice and comfort to me. They have heard it all. Try them!
Tina: Jealous you went to Savannah Bananas. Glad you had fun getaways and the mister found a job with great benefits. Happy decluttering.
When I was a kid I loved listening to rock and roll on my little record player or the radio. Also never missed the teen age dance shows in TV.
And I guess I haven't grown out of it. Just booked 2 nights in Albuquerque for Paul McCartney concert and the Balloon Fiesta Oct 5-7. N is already enroute in his happy hippie van. We'll take the scenic byways to So Colorado where the aspens are turning gold. This will be our 11th date. Color me hot pink with excitement because I know it will be a fun couple of weeks.
Stay well. Think positively. You just never know when the next miracle is coming. We can do this. Love you all.

Hi tribe;
I had to work from home today. My boss emailed me and several others. I have a deadline in five days, but they are concerned that we may not be able to work if we don't meet it. I had a migraine when my boss texted. Now she doesn't want us to text her for work-life balance. Well, I want a work-life balance too.
Pip, according to your account of the past. Running and biking helped you with your sobriety. You were able to run from all that hurt. If you need to challenge yourself, then do it. Just don't push yourself so much that it stops being fun. Did Lenny acquire AIDS from drug use? I wondered about him. I asked if he had stopped using and decided to be healthy, and then he found out he had it. I figured that he loved you so much that he wanted you to be healthy, too, and must have cared about you and been aware of your athletic history, which is why he gave you a gift of a gym membership.
Same with Kirby with biking. Does Kirby bike anymore? Your story kept me wondering, which is why you should write a book. I remember how happy you looked in France with Lenny. So I know that was a mighty blow when he died. You mention that you and Kirby don't talk while running or walking the kids. Sometimes, that is how my husband and I would bond - by being together but not talking to each other. I would work on my writing for school work, and he would write his book. Just being together is all we need. I know my question is private about Lenny. I took care of adult patients in the 80s, and people were so judgmental of those who acquired AIDs. A close friend of mine died of Aids because he was cheated on and his partner passed it on to him. I have known him since middle school. He protected me from the guys who would tease me. I used to run in middle school, but my asthma made it less enjoyable. I was fast, but now if I can finish a 5 K run, I would be proud. I genuinely believe that both Lenny and Kirby recognize the benefits of exercise for mental health.Allie, you look great with your new haircut. I pray that you and Tracey can reconnect. I wish she remembers how much you are there for her. I know you are tired of hospitals, labs, tests, and doctors. Keep it up and rest when your body tells you to. S'Miles may be a budding photographer. Tracey looks stressed.
Carol, it sounds like your DH may need to get Heparin shots to break up the clots. If he does, you will need to learn how to administer the shots. Some of my patients get the clots and have to put up with the shots. I know all of this is scary. Just take it day by day. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your DH.
Margaret, the garden pictures are the respite I needed from my chaotic weekend at work. I love gardens and birds.
Lisa, is your son moving in with you soon? You said something that hit me hard in the chest. I lost 75 pounds for my boyfriend; I wanted him to love me more. When I told him how much I lost, he said he didn't have that much to lose. My cousin said he had more to lose. I attracted everyone but him. I felt like it was a form of mental abuse. He told me I was a sinner because I had premarital sex with him, and he couldn't do that anymore. He was hanging out with his "Friend" Betty and was going to church with her. I stood me up for a date and married her in Las Vegas. This was the same guy who had asked me to marry him, but he wanted me to quit nursing school and support him through his education. He was angry because I said that we could both go to school and get married after we finish school. ( I only had one semester left) I really wanted to be a nurse, and I was afraid that if I married him, I would never have the chance to complete my education. Kenn never finished school. I was thrilled when he attended the University of Arizona. It allowed me to focus on my studies. I didn't even miss him. I loved taking anatomy and physiology and hanging out with my friends.
I hate to say this, but while DH is in Chicago, I love my alone time. I don't know what is wrong with me. I am an only child, and I am accustomed to being alone. My therapist thinks I can focus better on my weight loss journey. He is right, I can. Yet, we talk on my way to work and back home. I love him, but sometimes he piles on many things that I need to do, and I am aware. I need to attack things one at a time. I have ADHD, and my way of dealing with things that seem daunting is procrastination or doing it to get it over with.Rita, you look beautiful amidst the sunflowers. Your jokes are funny. I am sorry about your son. It is an up-and-down process. My daughter says she is sober, but she is so anxious. DD is bipolar. My aunt was schizophrenic, and she almost killed me when I was eight because she thought I was a communist. My friend Erica saved my life. My aunt drank like a fish. It is hard to watch our loved ones suffer from illnesses that are beyond control.
Heather, I love the pictures, and I love the way Edie decorated her shoes.
Melanie, Thanks for sharing Stormie with us.
Tracey, that was a quick road trip. Am I to assume that Rodger stayed home?
Barbara, so glad to see Tumble made it out of surgery okay. Tumble is a beautiful dog that seems fancy. My Rose seems more like a tomboy.
Barbie, I am so glad you had a wonderful visit with your son and DIL.
Well, I'd better close now. I talk a lot.
XO,
Mo in Mississippi

Monique - Our son isn't moving in with us - all that happened more than seven years ago. He's happily ensconced in his bachelor life in Jacksonville, Florida, with his cat Mabel, and has made the dean's list his first two semesters in online college at SNHU. I'll be mailing his birthday gifts to him soon. Which reminds me, I need to ask him for his new address. I'm glad you were able to get your degree… My research for the gastric bypass showed that divorce rates afterward nearly double, because massive weight loss will actually widen whatever cracks there already were in a relationship. Good relationships get better—but shaky ones fall apart. I found out later that my family was actually making bets on how long it would take me to leave my first husband, and my nearest-in-age brother called it closest at two years. No one else thought I'd last that long.
Ginny - Hope everything went well with the inducement and the little family is back together again…
Rori - Always good to see your serene and lovely face. Enjoy your Albuquerque time. I lived there for a bit approximately a century or so ago. The mountains are just gorgeous.
Allie - Thinking about you today, kid. Be careful on your trip to New Haven.
I have been thinking about my design for my daughter's quilt, as well as getting input for her on what she wants, and it is, of course, shifting. That's the point in this being a process without a deadline. It's very much for her and what she wants, and it also needs to be within my capabilities. Always an interesting process.
My sewing room has stacks of very clean, thrifted sheets everywhere, as well as a half-dozen new half-yards of fabric that I also need to throw in the washer (I usually forget) to get all the sizing, etc., out of them. Makes them shrink less later, among other things.
Plus I'm working on a crocheted afghan for my son-in-law that looks like a football field, and a cardigan for my daughter that's in shades of blue. Already told her I'll just keep them until they get here next year, whenever that may be. They won't need them for this winter in Hawaii, but they will for their first winter in Illinois!
Had hoped to see them in April or May, as her no-later-than date to be in Illinois is May, but my son-in-law's oldest son, who lives in Arizona, will be graduating in May, so that's going to gum up any travel plans to come here in between. You can't miss the boy's graduation, for goodness sake.
Time to go find my one cup of coffee…
Hope it's a peaceful and/or productive Thursday,
Lisa in AR4 -
Good morning my friends!
I'm still way behind at reading and I missed a lot. But it's okay if it takes me a few days to catch up.
Allie and those who suggested a social worker, or more help. Yes it's time to go back and check out the programs again. There's a lot that he isn't eligible for so it gets complex.
Allie last I heard you were feeling poorly and looking for a diagnosis. Was it your kidneys? Hope you are feeling better.
Sue I am having trouble with the bones in my foot from osteopenia. So i need to avoid a horse stepping on me. Plus I can't take Dad. He doesn't hear/listen to verbal commands like get back or let go. He takes so much guidance that I couldn't help anyone else. There is a small care farm nearby which is like a petting zoo for mentally challenged people. I might try taking him there one day. If I can get him bathed and dressed and fed.
Pip love the planters! And you are a boss at fitness! Glad you found a decision that fits you.
Barbara sorry to hear about Tumble's surgery, but glad it went well.
Heather your family photos remind me of all the fun you have together!
Margaret what a beautiful begonia! Reminds me of a mandala.
Volleyball is not for me because of my vision depth perception issues. I have awful memories of being forced to play.
I have always loved reading fiction. My mom had a huge collection of harlequin romances that I read as a child. We used to take a laundry basket to the library to carry all the books.
I've been thinking about my introvert tendency. It might be a learned thing. I'm awkward with social interaction, and my perfectionist streak makes me overthink what I have said. So I say less and less. Hmm.
Dad is a challenge this morning. He got hold of a pair of shorts that are so big he has to hold them up, then went outside to get the newspaper despite me telling him not to. I sent him to get his jeans, but now the shorts have disappeared. I need to hide or toss them. Nothing terrible, just a constant nuisance.
We have rain forecast all day.
Have a great day! May you all be happy, healthy, safe and free!

😀 My tiny cherry tomatoes are still ripening on the plant faster than I can eat them. Yesterday I gave some to two neighbours and there are still plenty for me and more to come.
😀 I have another knitted blanket and three knitted hats to take to Project Linus. I'll take them there today. Annie will like the short ride in the car.

Mo I just read Blindspot and The Price We Pay by Marty Markary about the US medical system. His discussion on insurance was enlightening. He also had a chapter on AIDS . There were some doctors who right at the beginning suspected it was past through the blood. It took ten years for the blood banks to do a $10 test to check for it. In that ten years the blood banks and the doctors were down playing the dangers. I was close to getting a blood transfusion in 1985 with the birth of my second son. Arthur Ashe lost his life to AIDS because of a blood transfusion in this time period, so it was not just drug addicts and gays who lost their lives to AIDS in the 80's and 90's. Fortunately I did not have a transfusion. Now you have to sign a consent form to get a transfusion if it is not an emergency!
It became clear to me that the insurance system is one of the biggest reasons the cost of our health care is out of control.
I also found his discussion on how entrenched systems and ideas can become fascinating. Sometimes it is just one or two voices who for whatever reason become the gurus of the day. Others who have good ideas are not heard because it does not fit the current treatment. Doctors can lose their license unless they follow prescribed treatments.
Another example of this was the war on fat in the diet. One doctor out of Minnesota pushed that fat was behind heart issues another doctor pushed sugar as more of a problem. We know which agenda was adopted. Our health as a nation did not improve with this adaptation.

Lisa - thank you for that focaccia recipe, one of these days I'll give it a try. I just realized I don't have any flour in the house and haven't purchased any since DH died over 3 years ago. 😁 For years I made a Saturday night pizza so always had yeast and plenty of flour, pizza sauce, etc. But as his health got worse, he wasn't interested in it anymore, and that bag of flour in the cupboard just sat. I even put it in the freezer then realized I wasn't interested in baking anything anymore. However, I'm getting interested again. I bet I could even toss a little dough in the waffle maker…
Mo - when DH was in the Marines, he was stationed overseas a few times or someplace in the US far from me so we communicated by letters or phone. I often thought we got along a lot better then than we did when we finally settled down and were around each other 24/7, lol.
Pip - hope Kirby's fix for the fridge works for a long time.
Rori - what a great night at the symphony. Have fun on your next adventure with N. 🤩
I have a few things to do around here before I head out for shopping then lunch with M.
Make it a fabulous day, ladies!

I am still eating my moderate oxalate diet. That means less chocolate, raspberries, sweet potatoes, black pepper, cinnamon, Chia seeds, peanut butter, and nuts…I still eat them but in much smaller quantities. I do try to avoid beets, spinach, rhubarb, and almond flour. My weight has held steady at 155-158 for my 5'6" frame. I am noticing subtle improvement in some of my minor issues. In my quest to eat more plants I didn't know you can overdo certain ones.
In a book by Sally Norton one of her examples was Liam Hemsworth developed a kidney stone in his twenties by having spinach smoothies everyday. Having a smoothie was not the problem it is what he put in it. Best to avoid almond milk in one too. You can substitute coconut milk and other greens not so high in oxalate if smoothies are for you.
I do think over doing the oxalate foods is why my kidney numbers came out low for kidney filtration. Now that I tweaked my diet I learned it can take 3 to six months for the changes to make a full impact. I will try to schedule my physical in February now.
