LESS Alcohol ~ September 2025 ~ One Day at a Time

@globalhiker It’s not been easy. I definitely struggle with the little voice telling me to just enjoy a drink or two.
I really appreciate everyone’s support and encouragement. I appreciate you reading my vents/rants too. If I didn’t have a place to vent/rant, I’d probably have a drink. So, thank you!

I'll catch up tomorrow but my puppy, aka my Emotion Support Dog (who knew I needed one) is keeping me so busy between her routine ( building in progress) and me trying to keep a few of my targets on the table (walking)…at the end of the day… I'm beat.
I've sat down with a glass of wine and lights out….

This might sound crazy but it worked for me.
Get stupid vomit drunk if you don't have anywhere to be the next day. You will be so sick you will be turned off by the poison for a while. ;)
6 -
@xbowhunter That could be an option, but I don't think it's good option for me. For one, the last time I vomited, I was vomiting blood and ended up in the ICU. To this day, I'm afraid to vomit! I will make this…I'm very determined. The last time I checked you were doing good. And, I agree alcohol is poison. It's interesting that you've noticed losing water weight already. I've noticed that in the past also. I'm looking forward to that. It seems when we drink that we accumulate water not just in our waistline, but also in our faces.
Take care and keep up the good work!

Slept amazing again last night. I decided to abstain long term until I get my eating and weight back in control. :)
Bring on the October challenge!
Cheers

@WestCoastGirl_1 Glad to hear that your husband is going help you. I'll keep you both in my prayers!
@xbowhunter good to see you back on your game!
@NonnieDoiron we're always here for all of us! I love the support in this group!
@globalhiker praying for you, too, that your "backslide" will be moderate. You've come so far!
I successfully fought off the wine devil last night and went to bed early. I can't wait until sleep comes a little easier and deeper

Good work. It is an evil thing wine! I put mine away. Just think of the $ we will save.. lol

@chicbuc Congrats on not having any wine last night. You know, just like I do, once you get one day AF, you can keep on keeping on. I'll be there soon. I may have to taper. My husband is willing to help. But I really just want to quit. It's getting old! It's not fun anymore.
This morning, my husband said that he wants to quit the wacky tabky also. Just a week ago or so, he said he was going to grow two plants next year. He's growing just one this year. It's completely legal here. But this morning he said he isn't going to grow any next year and that he wished he hadn't planted this one. I'm happy about that. He's not a kid anymore and IMO it's not any better than alcohol. Before the weed, he did most of the cooking. He thought he was a master chef and I have a few specialties also. Lately, we've been eating horrible. So, hopefully, we can get back on track and maybe I can join the weight loss challenge again.
Take care kid and thank you for the prayers. Your prayers mean a lot to me.

Cutting back on A is part of me trying to get in shape. Also exercising and cutting back on calories. I feel great, but the scales are barely moving, and this belly fat is stubborn!
4 -
@tmbg1 - You have a great motivator to keep the A at a minimum - to get in shape!! You are doing great and will get there!

I finished off some red wine last night and am motivated to get to my 12 days NA by Sunday. Getting back to my pre-summer numbers is a big confidence builder.
I know this thread is for LA but wanted to share my new mindset on food. Yesterday, I shopped all fresh ingredients to start the tried and true healthy eating style today to prevent cardiac disease, and HBP - DASH-Mediterranean.Cheese, Chocolate and small amounts of red wine are also part of the plan. Will weigh and measure of course!
6 -
Good luck with plan @Michieb125. Measuring/weighing logging food really helps.
@chicbuc congrats on your wine free night last night.
@xbowhunter I thought your advice to get just nasty drunk was actually pretty good. I haven’t had tequila since I had alcohol poisoning after getting horribly drunk. It was BAD!

I'm hoping to have some time tomorrow to catch up with everyone, but I just wanted to take a few minutes to say welcome to and applaud your success!! Excellent job of introducing exercise and getting some awesome results.
They will notice…but if you see the difference and YOU are feeling good…that's what maters.
Again, welcome to the group.

I failed last night. I had 2 big glasses of wine partly because I still had it in the house. I threw the rest away and today is a new day!
Have a great Thursday, all!

No plans to have a drink this weekend but one never knows! Lol

I totally fell into my old bad pattern yesterday - it started with a very long workday, about 11 hours, so I totally skipped out on my "planned" weight workout. Then found myself at 5pm with aches and pains from sitting all day in hunched over a laptop. I had to pick up chicken to cook for today so I drove down to the supermarket and also picked up 3 cans of cheap fizzy garbage wine on sale. Why 3? I went down the aisle with the intention of 1 (to kill my aches and pains) and grabbed 3 because there were 3 left.
Result: I stayed up well past my bedtime, found 2 cans gone this morning and the third partly full in the fridge. The calorie damage set back was estimated at 750 calories. My aches did go away but really I could have just taken a pain reliever or better yet, I could have prioritized myself while working to take breaks, stretch, and get my workout in.
And I feel like crap. Where's the alka seltzer? All stuffy and puffed up and moving slowly. And sweaty. Feeling too yukkers to go out for a run. This isn't working and I think I need to just go back to another year of no drinks and feeling good about myself.
@WestCoastGirl_1 you are very right, I can't (and shouldn't go back). I need to stop now before that wine devil takes control. And I am rooting for you too.
@xbowhunter all your comments speak to me - saving money, amazing sleep, and the reminder that alcohol is a poison. Glad you're back here and back in the game.

Hello everyone!!
Tomorrow will be one week with Lola and she is doing very well!! We usually go to bed between 9 and 9:30. She wakes up to go out at about 1:30am, (so about 4 hours) but she waits until she sees me move to let me know she's awake. Then again, at about 4:30 or 5am. I usually wake up a couple of times a night to take care of "my" business, so we are perfect together. She doesn't dilly when we go out at night…she's out and in in less than a minute!
The other night, I climbed into bed and realized how happy I am with my new puppy and how good it felt to need to take care of her and to have her appreciate it, a tear or two fell. I am her person….but now I have to work on separation anxiety!
I'm also finding I need to reorganize a few things in my house. I had made adjustments for grand children, but children don't grab your throw rug and drag it across the floor, grab your shoes and run with them, attempt to chew on wicker baskets on the floor, drag the box of firestarters for the fire pit… I think you get the idea!! 🤣I haven't started training yet. Maybe next week, but I'm still at a loss on how to train without treats!
I have not been AF but definitely less. As I mentioned earlier, by the time we settle down, I pour a glass of wine, I might have finished it before I'm asleep! Today, i have book club so yes, a glass or two during our discussion then I will focus on AF for the rest of the month.
Catching up….
@WestCoastGirl_7 @WestCoastGirl_1 Thank you. It was not unexpected but I thought there would be notice and at least a couple of weeks of pay. Following your story and continued prayers for your success. I bought Lola a snuggle puppy, the kind with a "heartbeat", that's what you saw. I thought she might need it. She used it Saturday morning and then every night since she's been with me, but then last night, she took out the "heart"….I'm curious what she will do with it tonight.
@chicbuc ~ I'm still crunching numbers. I'll be ok through the end of the year before I need to take any actions. My husband has been looking for part-time work. If he comes through with something for a while, it will be just the bridge we need!
@nbruns83 ~ Yes, definitely sounds like the plan with "work". I'm just happy to be where I am mentally and financially. When a similar thing happened in 2014, I was devastated, but quickly got back on my feet. Now, I think "retirement" has a nice ring to it! I LOVE THIS….I can do a primal squat and get up without hands~ You SHOULD brag, as a matter of fact, this should be part of your signature line!!! I'm not a cat person but I do have to say that they are a cute cat family!
@NonnieDoiron ~ Congrats on the 12+ pound loss! You're crushing it! My head is tilting sideways on getting yelled at by the person who is responsible for the issue! Yikes! I'm so glad you left that dressing hanging out as motivation; it's working! I do recall the stress of the vet bills, and I used to get very frustrated. I had switched to a different vet when I had Yoda and they charged you just for walking in the door. My new vet seems better…they even told me to order the Flea, tick, heartwarm from Chewey.
@tmbg1 ~ I love your consistency. You are doing so well. Keep exercising and cutting calories, the results will come!
@chicbuc ~ thank you for sharing your pictures and the commentary. They are beautiful. You should frame the lighthouse! We've traveled a lot in the past, and it's not that I don't want to continue, but with less income, it might be problematic. I'm also thinking of more local things that we could do and bring Lola along. Time will tell.
@Womona ~ I heard things blew up the very next day 😍 I'm sure I somehow got blamed for it! Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I can very much relate. Just my 2 cents…(and things I need to hear as well):
“dress the body you have" > Nope
" accept the natural aging process” > the aging process is beautiful, accept it but do it gracefully by taking care of yourself.
and “get control of this now, it’s only going to be harder in the years to come.” > I do agree with this one…the more stress on your body now, the harder it will be to address later.@xbowhunter ~ wishing you luck but I know you will conquer this little speed bump in life~
@Michieb125 ~ I didn't know what I was missing. So much laughter and joy. She's a blessing to me! I baked cookies for my son's 36th birthday this past Tuesday. It was nice to bake and the smell was better than the taste! Love the new mindset on food. I just cleaned out the refrigerator and freezer this morning (garbage day). I have quite a bit of meat in my freezer, my goal is to cook what I have before buying more and also to do earlier meals/dinner, now that I have the time. I will spend the rest of the week putting together a plan and rock October!!
@globalhiker ~ I had to file with a joblink for my state for unemployement. I got one match sent to me by email but it's not really a match (salary + full-time). I thought about updating my Linkedin but I think I'm going to ride out the rest of the year and just enjoy the downtime and puppy time. If something drops in my lap, then I will reconsider 😊 Sorry you had a hellish week and hope that you were able to return to your AF streak. Hey, don't listen to the little voice….Hey…go back and read your prior posts. What has changed for you? You were doing extremely well and i know you will do it again. Figure out the trigger.
@Walela617 ~ Keep on keeping on. You can do this!
A few folks have gone missing,@SparkSpringtime69 @Fursian @BurnMode05 to name a few…. I hope things are going well with you all.

@globalhiker I'm glad you're aware of the devil. You were doing so good. Please get back on track!
I hate to admit it…but back in the 80's, I was living in SoCal and I had two DUI's back to back. One was on the freeway in LA and the other one was in Palm Springs. I had to spend 5 days in the county jail, paid a whole lot of money, had to go to AA meetings and alcohol school for a year. What they tell you in alcohol school is that alcoholism or what they now call it, Alcohol Use Disorder, is a progressive disease. And, I believe that is true. As time goes by, it just gets worse. Anyways, I hope you can get back to where you were. I believe you had 364 days AF. Once I get a few AF days, I will never go back!
I'm most likely older that you, but I have good days and bad days. But for the most part, alcohol is making me miserable and basically killing me. I'm hoping today will be my last day.
Take care of yourself and I will catch up with the rest of you later.

@itladyee Now that you mentioned it I do remember snuggle puppies. Poor snuggle puppy…got it's heart ripped out.
I do remember the puppy stage. But, my mom trained our childhood dog The dog was a mutt (cocker spaniel, beagle, etc mix). My mom had her trained not to step foot on the carpet, until my brother and I ruined that.
My Dobie, I actually bought for a friend. She had a Dobie that had passed away. I had a good job and a two bedroom, two bath condo with a two car attached garage and lived by myself. She had been basically couch hopping. So I told her she could stay with me. She was real good with dogs and trained him and took care of the puppy and the cat. But, she had a real bad drinking problem and kept trying to get jobs, but couldn't hold them. So when the dog was about a year old, she decided to move away with her sister. Monday through Friday I was gone for about 10 hours a day and the dog started tearing up the furniture. I had a small yard and a doggie door, but he didn't like being alone. Fortunately, one of my high school friend's mom fell in love with him and she and her husband were both retired. So I gave him to them.
By the way, I buy most of my pets stuff from Chewy. When we lost our Tinker they actually sent flowers…very nice.

Excellent progress everyone.
Its funny when you refuse a drink and someone says the typical "come on it won't kill you" I say actually yes it will kill you because after all its poison to the human body! lol
The looks I get are priceless.
This time around I am not telling anyone but my friends here that I'm pretty much done with it unless it's a very special occasion. So, refreshing knowing that it doesn't control me! :)
8 -
@xbowhunter Yes it is poison. Good idea not telling your local friends that you're quitting. It's probably better to just say, "I have to get up early in the morning" or something like that.
I still haven't had an AF day in a while, but I'm seriously tired of it. It does seem to control us after a while. I'll be happy when I'm done!

AF-25The husband had his hernia repair surgery today (all is well). I took a half day off from work to go with him and take care of him. I submitted a time-off request which was approved, I sent an email to all important people this morning to remind them I was off and what time I would be logging off, and I put up an out-of-office message on my email specifically stating I would not have access to email/phone and would respond tomorrow morning. When I got back home about 5ish, I took a quick glance at my phone just to see how many emails I had piling up. My boss tried to call me twice about an hour and a half apart… what part did she not understand!? 🙄 I can see she and I are going to have to have a talk. If I’m off and especially if I’m using paid time off instead of our “unofficial comp time” then don’t freaking call me! 😡
7 -
@NonnieDoiron AMen!!! Glad all went well. I’m convinced that people only read the first three words of a communication. To call was so disrespectful !
4 -
@NonnieDoiron glad his procedure went well. As for the ER visit last week, dang, that is scary!!!! You guys must have been terrified. Congrats on the weight loss, and not going for that drink the night your hubby was in the ER!
@nbruns83 OMG the kittens! Look at their little faces! Are you going to make them indoor cats? You’ve been chosen, indeed!
@itladyee how cute is Lola!!!! So sweet. Enjoy her! What a snuggly bucket of love!
@xbowhunter you inspire me. @globalhiker you do too! It amazes me how easy it is to go right back to our old habits if we let up on our discipline. I have the same exact issue. Feel like hell after drinking, and it completely derails the next day, starting a daisy chain of bad food and non-exercise decisions. Let’s get back on that horse and stay there!
I’ve been out of touch, not logging food and drinking during the week. Also, because of morning appointments and needing to meet with the contractors for our new bathroom reno, I missed an entire week of exercise except for my tennis drill. We head down to the boat this weekend. Next weekend is our last, so we need to start bringing things home, take down the Bimini, etc. I don’t want the season to end, but it will be good to get out of perpetual vacation mode!7 -

I'm gaining on those stupid alcohol consumptions days. My mini goal now is to hit 15 no alcohol days one day at a time. If I can get through this weekend, I will nail it! :)
cheers

I did not drink yesterday and didn't even think about it, probably because I still felt crummy. And I don't want to handover my sense of control over to the wine devil.
Result: woke up refreshed at 4am (yes) and put my big girl spandex on and ran 4.3 miles outside.
Time for the temporary derailment to end and plan is to be AF today. I won't listen to the devil voice that says "it's ok to drink on Fridays after such a long week, you deserve it". I'll buy a small chocolate treat instead.
Somebody be AF with me today please. Happy Friday!
7 -
Hello
I will be glad to be AF free with you today. I have some nice Corona zero in the fridge! lol
6 -
Only 5 more days left in the month!
Still eating Mediterranean style this week and feels like a good fit. Since Sept 1st I’ve been buying the small bottles of wine which have worked best for limiting portions.
But, I bought a bottle of Cab from Costco the other day (cheap price) and opened it to have just one glass “because I deserved it” for helping family members with their problems (not DH).It wasn’t as good as my little J. Lohr ones. Guess I got what I deserved alright :).
Now I have a lot of not great red wine leftover…..never good!
So, I have a busy and full day ahead and am committed to AF tonight with you @globalhiker. You have a good plan and know you will follow through - and way to go on that incredible run!
Excellent gains @xbowhunter! There’s no stopping you now!
Stats: Skipped the wine 10/25 days3
