Yeah, don't you hate when your friends talk about losing weight, and they all mention not eating and stuff. I want to drive into their head that they HAVE to eat something and exercise to lose weight, but I bet they'll go right back to their normal habits. It's so annoying. :grumble:

  • Or when your "bigger" friends want to give you advice on your diet? Really? Because that doesn't seem to be working for you.

The best one was one of my know-it-all coworkers was touting how healthy she was eating by eating hummus and celery for lunch. She polished off two stalks of celery, but an entire tub of hummus. After I pointed out she had just consumed 560 calories and that a serving size at 80 calories was for 2 tbsp not the entire container, she wasn't quite so smug.

I have a coworker who tells me quite often how I should be working out. Yet she only makes it to the gym for a day or two a week and then skips months before going back. And she's extremely overweight. I just nod and smile and keep on doing it the way I have been.

Especially the ones that say "You know if you stop working out, all the muscle is going to turn to fat". Good thing they weren't Human Anatomy majors..............

Oddly enough, not eating enough is my biggest problem and reason for weight GAIN. I can lose weight easily enough as long as I'm eating something every few hours. But since I became a mommy, I got horrible about skipping meals. That's when the pounds really packed on. So when I started using MFP I vowed that I'd eat all three meals plus a snack in between (with an optional snack after dinner), and I'm considering pushing myself to consume a minimum amount of calories per day to boot because I've been finishing well below my goal for the past few days. I definitely don't want to get back into starving myself.

Right about the time I quietly joined MFP, my friend joined Weight Watchers -- and promptly told EVERYONE about it. Cut to this past weekend, when I saw her after being away at school for a month. I've lost a noticeable amount, and she's gained -- and polishes off a Friday's brownie sundae (960 calories) in front of me.

Oh and she won't acknowledge that I've lost weight either. There's the kicker.
  • I had one of my mother's friends on facebook ask me WHY I weigh out my food, that I should count calories and she's a personal trainer yadda yadda she can give me advice on losing weight. Well half her message was spelled wrong, no punctuation, not to mention "MS. Personal Trainer"...how are you supposed to count calories if you don't measure out a serving size? I can eat a whole pot of mashed potatoes, but that doesn't mean it still has the same calorie count as my half-cup. She then told me that exercise is NOT the only answer, to try dance and elliptical exercise. If exercise isn't the only answer than why does your "tip" have the word
E-X-E-R-C-I-S-E in it? Ugh people make me mad. I know what my doctor told me to do, so I'll stick with that.

Someone who had gastric bypass, lost all their weight living off sugar free hot fudge, lost half theif hair and then gained the weight back, called me malnourished. Anothef person who saw me writing my calories down, yelled out loud "oh my god, what are you doing? Are you that drastic at home around your husband?" Now, she had the lap band surgery and ate so much she somehow broke it or popped it off so its just hanging there useless causing her to puke up mozt of her foods and she didnt lose any weight. I told her quietly, that I was minding my own business and if she hadn't been nosy, she would not have seen me trying to be healthier and that I thought her lap band would also be considered drastic too. As she was eating candy and and a giant milk shake. She still makes comments, but watching her eat junk all day and complain about her health problems has been the biggest motivator for me.

I totally agree. How do you think you'll do your body an good by starving? And for the last time: "I'M NOT ON A DIET!!!!!!" I'm on a quest to change my habits for a lifetime!

What gets me is when my mother-in-law (who's had lap-band surgery) says she can't by good food because it's too expensive and then goes to the casino. She wants advice and has excuses for it all.

I have had friends fail losing weight due to "over doing it".
He went literally cold turkey. Eating nothing but boneless skinless chicken/turkey and salad.
It wasn't a change in diet he could live with. Was back to eating his old ways in less than a week.

I get the opposite. And I think it's embarrassing! "you are losing so much weight, what are you doing?" "eating better and exercising" "but you are getting so small, are you eating carbs?" "yeah, I love my carbs, just trying to eat healthier and exercise"

At least once a week, she checks in to see what my secret is
