Keeping your actual weight a secret from loved one?

I've always told him, especially since I started gaining weight (which is why I'm here) cuz I would be so upset after being weighed and he's always like "don't feel bad mami, I gaind __ lbs too." lol. He also helps me a lot in the weight loss department, due to our scheduals I was doing most of the house work. We made a pact that if I started working out instead of just complaining about it and taking 20x longer to get ready everyday, than he would get up early and do some of the house work so I would actually have time to work out. Now, I work out and he helps with house work and its like a little reward to know I dont have to come home and do laundry or dishes or w.e. lol. He is also my healthy eating support system0

No way!!! Your loved one is your best support.
I couldnt agree more!!!!!0 -
My husband knows how much I weigh, how much I want to lose, and how much I've lost. He's great for support, so I don't really feel embarrassed letting him know the number.0

Thanks for the feedback and comments everyone!
In some respects, I think my husband turned a blind eye to my weight gain...He always tells me he is happy with the way I look. Even when I show him pics of me a year ago (we were together then!) he does a double take. Did he not notice the weight? Doubtful, but I guess he can really see the difference now. I dont think he would care what my SW was and yes, he is incredibly supportive. For some reason, Im okay sharing the numbers here but not with him. Maybe when I reach my GW I will tell him so we can celebrate together!0 -
How do you tell your partner you're 10 kilos heavier than him :P
I'll tell him when I've finished, but not now. It's too embarrassing.0 -
When I started I was pretty embarrassed, my SO is super tiny and weighed a good 30 pounds less than me and I'm much shorter, I didn't want to admit it. Now we make notes together of how much I've lost, and I haven't hidden how low I want to get (I've even mentioned being only 10 pounds away from my goal, as if it could get more obvious) but I've still never been able to say the actual number, even though it's really good now! I suppose it's because even though I've lost so much I'm still right around the same number as my SO, I want to wait to admit it until I can say I'M LESS THAN YOU NOW!0

My husband doesn't care about the numbers. He is the most laid back guy I know...very athletic too and he has always supported all of me no matter what the weight.
My goal is to get into "his pants"  At my goal weight I should be able to fit in his jeans. Then of coarse I'll re-evaluate my goals. Not sure where I am going to be comfortable on this journey. But for now, I am only 7 lbs. away from my first one. :bigsmile:0 -
I am very secretive asbout my weight to friends and family. If anyone started talking about weight, I usually kept quiet. If they asked how much I have lost I would tell them. One friend stumped me by asking what I weigh now, I couldn't get out of that question, so told her truthfully, and she didn't recoil in horror or laugh, just said well done, youre doing great. Its made me a bit more willing to talk about it if the subject comes up in the future.
Just now my hubby hasn't seen me since July (working abroad) so hopefully he will notice a big difference when he comes home.0 -
Mine has no idea how much I weigh. He knows how much I have lost but, bless him, he has never specifically asked how much I currently or used to weigh. If he did ask, I'd tell him!0

I never could tell my husband my weight. He's always guessed a number that was significantly lower than my actual weight. lol. ... However about 4 months ago I told him what my then current weight was, even what my heaviest weight was (just in January) .. I tell him every few days when I weigh myself about my progress as well. I feel like it was such a big secret, as though I was ashamed. Well I am trying really hard to do something about it, so I need his support. Letting him in on all aspects of what I'm doing helps me. He's the only one who knows though, lol. Other than everyone on MFP, lol0

No, my hubby knows. And always has. It's almost like I'd rather have it known than out there like the white elephant in the room. Like I'm stating the obvious b/c it's better than the guesses!? I have weighed more than my dh for a while now (since the beginning of the year at least and before that b/c I was pregnant and had put on some weight before I got pregnant)....not anymore! woohoo!! I wonder why it's such a huge thing to weigh more than our so's?? I guess b/c women are "supposed" to be dainty and delicate and have big strong men....0

My boyfriend doesn't know my real weight but then, he's never asked.0

My Partner knows how much I weigh and supports my weight loss. All he says don't lose too much and end up a bag of bones He likes curvy women :flowerforyou:0

I still live with my mum and she has this habit of sabotaging me when she knows I'm losing weight. It's not intentional but she still does it despite a couple of arguments we've had about it. So currently my weight and the fact I'm back doing weight loss is a secret.0

Wow, this thread is really surprising to me. I've never kept my weight a secret from my husband. He sees what I look like, what difference does it make what a scale says.0

Absolutely!0

Row, row, row your boat gently down the stream.... I am in the same boat. My guy knows how much I have lost and that I am smaller now than when we met 6 years ago. The exact weight he doesn't know. I have always out weighed him. After we moved in together I gained 60 pounds, he gained 25. He isn't overweight, but he does have a belly going on. He does know my goal weight (not how much to lose to get there) because my reward for reaching it will be to throw him out of a plane....with a parachute of course.0

I do not tell my husband how much I weigh.
However, when I get within ten pounds of my goal weight, then I will probably let it slip.
Now, I just say "Oh, I lost a pound" or whatever. He's very encouraging about my weight loss. Sometimes a little *too* encouraging. Hence why I dont tell him the real number.0 -
I used to.....but then when I started to lose, I just told him. It made me feel better about my progress for some reason:)
Yes I agree. I kept it a secret for over 20 years. When I finally told him, July of this year, I think it made us closer. He is very supportive, loves me very much and I trust him with everything else, so I figured why not. It has definitely helped me to keep focused and I think it has helped me with losing weight, because it was a weight off my shoulders.0 -
My husband is the only person who knows my actual weight! And that's a good thing cos I get to start wearing my new gold watch when I break through the 100kg mark, so he definitely needs to know.
He is also a great support for me and even though he doesn't need to lose weight, he gets up early mornings to walk with me, comes bike riding on weekends, and now struggles to keep up with me on the dance floor (instead of me struggling to keep up with him.) This journey has been good for both of us, and for our relationship.0 -
I'm too embarrassed to tell anyone my weight, except that I'm on a diet and I want my BMI to be below 30 again. Luckily the guys I dated had BMIs over 30 too and were also trying to lose weight0
-
Yes as a matter of fact i have been married to my husband for 14 years and never told him my actual weight. My frineds and him never would guess what i have really weighed. They all know how much I have lost too but not my starting weight. I said that one day i might tell them when I finally get where I want to be. I don't know, I just don't want them to thing badly of me I guess.0

When I started I hadn't been on a scale for months; my hubby was with me when I went to the doctor, so he knew I'd hit an all time high. At that point I out weighed him by over 35 pounds. He's been very, very supportive and as a result I've almost caught him, and with his support and encouragement I will pass his weight soon, even though he is also losing weight as well.
I had a 'scale' momment this morning in that I was calling for him to come look at the scale to make sure I wasn't misreading it :laugh:0
