when I walk Kobe(MIL's dog), I wear my fanny pack and run the loop for the leash on the strap of the pack- hands free and don't have to worry about him jerking the leash out of my hand and him running off
There are quite a few cans to dump it in around the park and I have tossed it into peoples cans if they are out and ready for pick up- I won't put a bag in a can that has already been dumped-Poop would stay in the can for a week.

After work made a donation to Asure House. I think I’ll donate more to them since it seems that the Salvation Army gets a lot of donations. I’ve donated brand new things, still in the box, and I almost never see it displayed. I’m thinking that the workers put it aside for themselves. Also, with all the donations, I have a feeling that a lot of them get thrown away. Anyway, afterwards came home and took Ganon for a walk. Then bowling, took Ganon for another small walk. He’s doing so well on his walks that I didn’t use the gentle leader this time and he was fine.
Went back to the MD. The bronchitis is cleared up (my lungs sounded good) but I still have this cough. She prescribed a steroid and tomorrow I’ll pick up the cough medicine. She said I should notice a difference by Thurs or Fri.
Barbara – good thoughts being sent for Tumble
M – I only walk in my neighborhood. Remember, that the first 5years of his life, Ganon wasn’t treated like a pet so didn’t go on walks, didn’t go for rides in the car. As a matter of fact, when Jess would bring him here, she’d have to sedate him. The other day she took him to a dog park near here (probably about 20 minutes away), he got so anxious that he got physically sick in the car. So far we’ve pretty well got him to the point where he doesn’t get upset at a car in the neighborhood coming by. He used to really get upset. The HOA wants you to have the garbage can/recycling can in an inconspicuous place. We don’t, and no one has ever said anything. There is no way I’d walk Ganon to the nearest Valero station. I’d have to walk on a fairly busy road (I walk on people’s lawns), he’d get too upset at the cars and I don’t know how he’d react to walking on lawns.
Barbara – wouldn’t the plastic bag slide down the leash?
Melanie – we were 99.999999999% sure it was my daughter’s bf at the time who abused the cat. He never admitted it and she didn’t, but I did love that cat. She was the absolute most meticulous cat you can imagine. She had a dislocated hip and when they took the bandage off, I thought “how in the world will I get all that adhesive off”. She got every last bit off. Amazing, she was so fastidious. It was sad when she got dementia. If she ever realized what she was doing, she’d be horrified. Mats, not cleaning herself, etc. We were hoping that the mother instinct would kick in and my daughter would choose the cat over the bf. But that didn’t happen.
Evelyn – what a good idea to have a pocketbook. I almost spit out my tea reading about the catch for the thief….lol
Deb – one of the reasons I like the leash that I can put around my wrist is that he can’t run off. Not that Ganon would, he’s too much of a scardy cat. He’d run to the door (he’s done that). One time I had the retractable leash and he pulled it out of my hand.
Well, off to a shower and bed, probably play some mahjongg online before getting to sleep.

Hey, kids - Missed a few things, including photos, so I thought I'd look back along the timeline:
Rebecca - You look lovely, and the weight loss is very definitely noticeable. Well done!
Heather - John and his younger daughter look quite happy. She's lovely, and resembles him quite a bit, particularly around the eyes.
Melanie - My mid-life crisis vehicle was going to be a similar Jeep, but in red and white. Got to drive one when I was stationed in the UK, back and forth between the main base library and one of the satellite bases, far out in the Sussex farmlands. It was so much fun! Glad yours could be spiffed up a bit!
Mo - I'm sorry the migraines are in full flood. They seem to happen an awful lot, kiddo.
Kylia - Glad the cardio news is really good, sorry the insurance company is being a pill about the MRI. Which is the main reason I didn't choose to go with private insurance for Medicare, just stuck with the original. Your daughter and the grands all look great.
Allie - How are you doing this morning? Are you back home again, or did they keep you at the hospital?
Tracey - Thinking about you, and hoping the visit home is going very, very well. More than anything, I hope you get a chance to relax and not be the "designated adult" every minute. You deserve some time off.
Machka - Glad you're feeling better, sounds like kind of a tough month!
Thanks all for the comments on the back bedroom. I know it's still very stark, with the white walls, etc., and I'm still deciding on the window treatments. I plan to make the curtains for the windows for both rooms myself, with some of the extra fabric I have, so I'm letting the ideas percolate.
I took the "before" pics of the exercise/storage room yesterday, but it won't show much, because of the massive elliptical in the middle, and me being quite short. Plus, it's not nearly as dramatic a change. The walls are now yellow, not that vaguely horrible blue. Almost done with the caulking, just a bit more baseboard work, both building them and caulking them.
This is the best time of year outdoors here, cool this morning at 62 (17C), but the weather will be sunny and warm without being stupid hot this afternoon at about 82 (28C). And that is the forecasted weather for the next two weeks. Glorious.
And… back to why we're all here, somewhere in the first couple weeks, I noted that I had got all the way up to 166 at the beginning of the month, and wasn't too happy. As of this morning, (last day of the month, guys!) I'm at 160, and reasonably pleased with that. I did get a little freaked out at dropping all the way down to 158, but my weird little weight/wellness algebra in my mind is apparently OK with losing six pounds without panicking. Eight is apparently too much? I dunno.
For those of you who are new, Barbie will be adding a link at the end of the day that will lead us to a new month for October. Be sure to follow everyone over! Clean slate, new month, new goals (if you want to) new accountability (if you need that) and just a great way to start each month.
Later, y'all,
Lisa in October.5 -
Thanks Lisa for your kind words. I am trying! Like that little engine that could...
For many years I have watched how slim "normal" people eat, mess with their food and though they seem to enjoy their food, they weren't emotionally married to it. It was like watching aliens. But folks, here I am turning into a frillin alien.

Michelle…Lanette gave me an idea for your doggie issue…You could have an old purse that is a crossbody and put the bag in the purse until you can dispose of it. If stolen what a surprise! I would not recommend treats unless you are training a dog. I learned the hard way. Other dogs become your new best friend.
Allie I know you fear gaining weight but right now eating food that heals you that you keep down comes first. Getting off that weight loss drug would be one less drug.

Well, not such a great afternoon!
The lovely boiler man came to service the boiler. Unfortunately, he discovered that the heat exchanger is leaking carbon monoxide!!!! Ugh. A repair would be complicated and might mean some time without heat and hot water. Plus not cheap. After a lot of discussion, we have decided to get him to fit a new boiler when we get back from our cruise. V expensive, obviously, but the alternative was a problem. He said the rubber seal on the boiler cover was keeping the carbon monoxide in, but obviously it is not a good thing!!!!! Fortunately with the good weather we haven't had it on much. If we notice any headaches or anything we will switch it off.
So not great news!
I just got to school in time, but all is OK.
Poor John, who will have to find the money.

Melanie - When I was a kid (in the 1950's) my dad had a beat-up olive green Willys Jeep he drove back and forth to get to the fields. Yours looks nice! It should go another decade or two, right? Sorry to hear about your filly. I follow a gal on Facebook - Katie Van Slyke, whose family has a large farm in Tennessee. They raise goats, horses, mini cows, beef cattle and who knows what else. 😉 In the reels I've watched this past week, they treated severe fly strike on a couple day old calf and a premature foal - born at 280 some days if I caught that right. That's what - a month or 6 weeks early? The lungs were developed just fine but they had to splint the legs and curtail walking since the bones weren't fully formed yet according to Katie. I had no idea. I think they keep their vet in business from the way it sounds.
Lisa - perhaps I've already mentioned - I love seeing your Egg. We had a polydactyl kitten show up at the farm one day, same gray color as your Egg. DH called him Mitts. He was super friendly, a great barn cat. We intended to bring him here to suburbia but the day before we moved, DH found him hit on the road. 😥 So I guess it wasn't meant to be. If a little short haired gray polydactyl kitten showed up here, I'd take it in, cat allergy be damned.😁
Rebecca - glad Lee's doctor visit was good. Sorry to hear about your long-time friend and her living situation. I hope senior/social services can help her. Has your sis with the farm gotten a new puppy or cat yet? Maybe she's taking her time, if so, don't blame her.
Ginny - congrats on Finn's arrival. 😍 A new grand baby and your house sale wrapping up - an eventful few days for you, for sure. Hope your back pain isn't too bad these days.
Kylia - adorable grands! Your daughter and granddaughter are cuties and really resemble you.
Allie - so sorry you are back at the ER! We worry about you. Are all of your doctors communicating with each other?
Rebecca - I hear ya. I was always amazed my skinny sister could take a cookie, eat a bite or two, then set it down or throw it away because she was "full and done". What about those starving kids in China? Waste not want not. 😁 For me, overriding the "I'm full" signal has been the hardest thing to overcome, and I still struggle some days. Sigh.😣
Just did a big PC backup and will get this laptop upgraded to W11 today. Against my will, lol.
Also, when I was out this morning I noticed part of the greenhouse plastic has deteriorated so on the south (windy) side so need to come up with a fix before later this afternoon - wind and more rain coming.

Oooh scary! Do you have carbon monoxide censors? Those would be helpful until you get a new boiler. Sorry yours isnt working well!😥

Lanette,
I do not think my sister will get another dog or cat. She had said she is done. I think she should take in the elder dogs or cats. Her place is the ultimate retirement home or hospice care for senior pets ever! She gets so attached. Which is understandable. She is having fun watching the bird population explode since her cat passed. Also lots more squirrels getting the bird food too. Its like green light for them without the feline hunter there.

Woke to glorious sound of downpour yesterday morning. Now we can do more than one load of laundry a week, shower whenever we want and flush more frequently. Happy rain dance!
Tumble's recheck went ok. Less inflamed, healing a bit better but skin sides still not knit back together so another bandage. More antibiotics and Carprofen to tide us over til Friday. No word on biopsy results.
Bingeing: I knew that buying that bag of Cheetos was flirting with one of my triggers. Fortunately it was only the 3 serving bag, and I was able to stop at one and a half servings. Paid the price this morning with a 1 lb gain. Know better.
Michele the last time I used a retractable leash it went over the palm of my hand when Dixie pulled and it cut me nearly to the bone. Since then, nothing but leather leashes. Could you tie a knot in the leash just below the bag to keep it from sliding down? IMHO those who abuse and torment animals come back as that animal with full knowledge of who’s doing it to them. Karma.
Time to stand up and do some PT exercises, baby steps.
Later, lighter, lovelies!
Barbara, the Southern Oregon Coastie AHMODSeptember focus tidier: 5 minutes look for something that can be done in 5 mins or less… and just do it.
2025: Chose NOW: to move more than yesterday (see action plan), fuel better than yesterday (hold that after dinner sweet down to two pieces of dark chocolate max), open heart and mind before mouth4 -
Unfortunately the teachers in this province have voted to strike starting next Monday so Wednesday will be my last practice ☹️ Feel especially sorry for the seniors. They voted 90% to strike so getting the feeling it might last awhile. Going to try to get a few teachers and myself to play the girls on Wednesday for a fun last practice.
We got rain for a few minutes this morning. My kids were over for breakfast and we all ran out on the deck to watch it. Crazy- like we'd never seen rain before. Unfortunately it didn't last long.
Our beef producers delegate group is meeting at a small pizza place about 30 miles from us. One of those in the middle of nowhere places that everyone goes to for amazing pizza. Not super excited about it as I can take it or leave it. I think I may have chicken wings instead.
Everyone is back from Utah. My 2 year old grandson walked in carrying my birthday gift saying happy birthday but he took it to my husband by mistake 😊Cow tales are my favourite treat- chewy caramel base 😋 Love the bowl too ❤️
Lanette- chewing paws and flanks usually signals allergies. It could be something in the environment that is seasonal. Or have you changed up something in his diet? There are lots of good meds out there for allergies for dogs to give them relief.
Rebecca- sorry to hear about your friend's and your sister's struggles. I can't imagine having to get through the day.
Slim people as though they are aliens… HA! So true. There has to be some explanation 🤔Evelyn- find what you like to do. Walking is so good. You don't need a gym to get feeling good. You've got this!
Michele- steroids are the bomb. They are amazing at reducing inflammation and should get you to stop coughing quickly. As for the BF being the potential abuser 🤬 I believe that there is a special place in the afterlife for those that abuse the innocent.
Lisa- YAY on the six pounds 🤩
Lanette- foals are so delicate, and premies that survive are rare. Hopefully they have a good vet!
And that is my husband with sweets. He'll leave a partially eaten chocolate bar between us in the vehicle and all I can think is "how is that possible?". It actually makes me physically uncomfortable.Allie- hope you are doing better today.
Lots of hugs,
Melanie, Alberta

Hello Everyone;
I hope all is well. Lisa, please do not iron Egg. Just learn to accept that he is supervising you so that you will do a great job. I mean, really, he is nice enough to let you put things in his craft room. 😜 Your daughter and granddaughter are very beautiful. I hope you get to see them soon.
Allie, I love that your GP wants to look into that BP. My babies at the hospital have better BPs than the one you posted. Additionally, I am concerned about the amount you are vomiting and whether it is accompanied by diarrhea. I hope they draw a Renal Function panel on you.
Carol, I hope all is well with you and DH. I have not seen a post from you on updates lately.
Melanie, I have been struggling too lately. Hopefully, I will be motivated to exercise again today. I also need to stop baking. I freeze it so I don't eat it.
DH is stressing me out about the move. So, my head is hurting, so I am going to lie down. I will be back soon. So much to tell you.

well, mom called me last night as I was leaving for Zumba to tell me she had changed her mind, she had canceled her MRI appointment that was supposed to be today. She still has some concerns. I told her we will just let it go until after the holidays and then think about rescheduling it after the holidays are over.
I don't want to push her to get it done and then her regret doing it-
It does work out best for me as this week I am swamped with getting things ready for our 45yr class reunion(I am in charge of it, again). I have cookies and a cake to bake, go over my list so I don't forget to take anything- I have all the decorations and most of the raffle and silent auction gifts here.
I could have made it work if I did take mom, I was totally fine doing it, just gives me a bit of breathing room now.
I don't think much will change in her brain in just 3-4 months and if it gives her more peace that is what matters.
I just keep telling her the reason I would like her to find out is because I want her to be "HER" for as long as possible. She kept thanking me for listening to her and understanding how she is feeling. My older sister is adament about her not getting any tests done or taking any meds. My younger sister is pretty adament about her getting the test. Older sister doesn't think there is anything wrong with mom, younger sister thinks mom is worse off than what I think/see. I am always in the middle with everything.Weather is changing- rained last night, more and heavier coming tomorrow, asthma acting up. Will be drinking a lot more hot tea for sure.

After work stopped at CVS to get the cough medicine, then the church to count the donations. I feel so sorry for this sec’y. She gets so absolutely flustered. Then went to WalMart for some meat for the week, now home and will probably take Ganon for a walk
Margaret – I was thinking that I’ll look for a small across-the-chest pocketbook at a thrift store. I only give Ganon “treats” when we finish the walk. I want him to associate a walk with a pleasurable experience. So far, it’s working. When I helped train the service dog, we had to constantly give him treats(usually just kibble) when he walked on my left. He couldn’t walk on the right, in front or behind me (which makes sense)
Heather – if you don’t have a carbon monoxide sensor, I would absolutely get one. As you know, that’s an odorless gas. What if something happened while you were sleeping? At least the detector would go off and awaken you
Here’s a pic of the cat in the bandage from the dislocated hip. We believe one of the ways she was abused was she was kept under water. When we got her, she would freak out at the water just running out of the faucet. Eventually she did get over that.
They should start rebuilding our deck this week. Here’s a pic of how it looks today
Will post and then take Ganon for a walk.
Michele NC7 -
this week I was scheduled to run 5.3miles one day and 6.4 the next, then alternate between the two. Since I’m out camping, I don’t want to spend my time running since we get up late and still walk the dogs. It’s already afternoon. I ran a really slow 5k then took a shower, I’m good with that. We paid for a house cleaning service to do a deep clean while we’re gone. Never had a clean service at all before. We will see how it looks when we get back.

Hi everyone,
Melanie, I give my golden retriever 50 mg of Benadryl for her licking of her elbow. Is that what a flank is? She runs when I put hydrocortisone on it. She runs when I apply the hot spot spray.
Kylia, I was able to get an MRI for my headaches. My insurance paid for it. However, my co-pay was almost $1,000.00. I am concerned that this medication for my headaches is eating my stomach lining. Unfortunately, it can be debilitating.
Tracey, I hope you have a wonderful time visiting your family. Do you miss your sidekick, Michaela? I love how close you are. I felt sad for Rodger, thinking there was a chance you were not coming back. That shows how much he means to you. That said, I do believe we need time to decompress from our DHs at times. Some may disagree. I hope you are spoiled by your family and surrounded by love.
Barbara, I believe pet insurance should be started when the pet is a puppy. So it is too late for me, my dog. Rose is 10 years old.
I am trying to use the recipe feature on this app, but so far, it isn't working. If anyone has suggestions, please don't hesitate to let me know.
XO,
Mo in Mississippi

Mo @mcmillonmail the flank is they're side- usually they lick around the area just behind the ribs. Why does your dog lick its elbow? Does the Benadryl help? I can't help asking - its in me to try and figure it out 🤔

Got Rosie in to the vet this morning. Dr. Amanda, the regular vet, was on vacation. So I saw the replacement guy - not real impressed but he did his best. He said he thought it was fleas for sure, since she hadn't licked or scratched any open wounds, she didn't need any high-powered itch stuff. He said he doubted it was food or environmental allergy.?? He was OK with giving her 5 mg of Zyrtec (cetirizine) per day, thought it was better overall than Benadryl. There's guidance on the internet about how much to give. Rosie at 14# could take 7.5 mg but I get them in 10 mg pills from Dr. Lisa which are easier to split. 4 cents each. She's to stay on Bravecto through the winter. I gave her 5 mg at noon. She's still scratching a little, but has calmed down. She's back to liking her Royal Canin dog food, whew, lol.
Also got last minute patch-up on greenhouse (it's a hoop house covered in heavy duty plastic). Duct tape and heavy duty stapler to the rescue, lol.
Windows 11 backup went OK. A couple glitches to fix/get used to, but overall looks good.
Wind is blowing pretty hard, there's a chance of power outage since the trees still have leave on them, so will hit the send button.😁
