New doctor is very thorough but was 45 minutes late for the appointment. Always find that so frustrating. Need to get a bunch of baseline stuff done for her and I am really behind on a mammogram. More trips to the city.
Rodeo tonight. Our ranch supplied the horses for the Miss Rodeo Canada competition on Wednesday. They took 10 to the city along with all of the required tack. My kids said horsemanship wasn’t great- interesting as they represent the rodeo community.
Workout today is total body. Going to get it done this morning before we leave.
Treated myself to a beautiful cashmere sweater yesterday… too much 💵 but I haven’t bought myself anything for a long time.
Mo- that looks like an elbow callus. Very common in older large breed dogs. It’s really just a build up of thickened skin from the pressure of lying on the elbow where there is not much padding. It doesn’t bother most. Rose is adorable- and grey like me 😊
Lisa- I feel for you. I get the odd bought of insomnia but definitely do not handle it as well as you do. I do eventually go back to sleep usually after a few hours of tossing around. Especially get it if I drink too much red wine. My husband had some dizziness come out of nowhere a few weeks ago. It eventually resolved on its own. Our post mistress had a bad bought of vertigo. She couldn’t drive. She went for some type of therapy- can’t remember what it was. She has recovered as well.
Kylie- don’t you know that you are their trained pet 🐱They always look so comfortable languidly lazing around. Good job on the 10,000 steps. That is my daily goal too.
Annie- 98 is a good long life but it’s never easy to say goodbye. My dad is 94- lives on his own, drives, plays competitive pool and “beats all the young guys in their 70s and 80s”. He is incredibly lucky. His mom lived to 104 so we continually tell him not to spend all of his money 🤣
Machka- cool taking up the piano. We had a baby grand at home so my sisters and I all had to take lessons. Mine ended when my teacher yelled at me for not practicing. The sad thing is I did, I was just that bad at it. Distinctly remember the bike ride of shame home. I never went back.
Margaret- agreed on needing more protein as we age. We don’t metabolize it as well and we need it to maintain our muscle mass 💪🏽 . I am quite high- 160g/day. Don’t find it hard to do as we are beef producers so we have 2 freezers full and I enjoy eating it. Also do a lot of chicken and some pork, whey protein powder if I don’t get enough animal protein.
Have a great weekend doing what you love ❤️

HAPPY belated BIRTHDAY Heather!
I’ve been MIA lately. My nerves are shot and holiday depression is kicking in. (I see therapist on the 9th). I can’t fix what’s bothering me, I didn’t cause it, and I can’t cure it. I just have to work on loving detachment concerning the men in my life.
Lucy has men a great relief for me. Teaching her all sorts of things. She make me laugh. That’s what I need right now. Here, she is smelling the Pecos Sunflowers when they were in full bloom:sorry, it wouldn’t get smaller.
Since we can’t put pictures in a spoiler, I must warn you who are afraid of spiders. These guys are always fun to watch on their quest for love:
and some funnies for us:

My September numbers. I was really out of it the last week. Ended the month 1.6 pounds higher than start, not too bad. If I could do this being in a down state, I can do much better if I use Pip's boot! Still did ok, just need to get back to logging and moving more. All thanks to Lucy!

I did fifteen minutes of meditation and ten minutes on my rower and ten minutes on my bike! Yay! It's the first time in several months. I am pleased that I am just slightly sore but no joint pain, so I think I guessed the right intensity. Yay!

Welcome Mandy in CA- from Debbie in Napa Valley, CA
Happy belated birthday Heather.
Tracey- the pictures are so pretty. We don't get a lot of the fall colors here-there are a few trees that turn but not many
Mom rescheduled her appt. Wont be telling my sisters until after it is done. I will take her and then my best friend and I will take her to lunch, like we had planned. She made sure to put it on a Tuesday because she didn't want me to have to miss class or work to take her(I would gladly do it for her)
Reunion is tomorrow. Still a LOT of stuff to do.
I do have help and will round up more tomorrow as needed. I won't sit at the raffle table the whole time, unless I can have it set up more in the front, not against the back wall, though that was a good spot for it last time. Need to get everything loaded in my car, double and triple checking my list to make sure I didn't forget anything. I will bake the cookies-in bars instead of individual cookies this evening. Dump cake after that.
Weather looks like it will be perfect after rain off and on this week, including late last night.
This is the picture from the last one- we will be having it at the same place. So far about 80 people coming
This is at the family winery of my best friend who passed away 25 yrs ago. Her sister runs it now. Not much wine being produced right now because most of the vineyard was destroyed in the fires.Debbie

Good Morning,
I am housesitting for friends this weekend and taking care of their dog. It is a bit uncomfortable to stay at someone else's home without them here. I used to housesit/pet sit a lot but I have not done it in years.
Beth - thanks for asking - yes my eyesight is getting better, I'm delighted but it is also weird, occasionally I get a bit more sight on my right side, and when it happens it I have to re-figure out balance, where my center is. This makes the figuring out driving wild…. but I am getting the hang of it. Hopefully soon I will have all my sight back and I can get new glasses and just see like most folks.
I would not recommend brain surgery as a weight loss program, but it has worked for me, right after surgery all sweets tasted horrible! a bit like cheese that was just before rotting. So of course I did not eat any…. now 4 months later sweets are tasting fine, but a tiny bit is all I need. I think the amount of time broke the "addiction" of the sugar. I have not avoided sugar in fruit or veggies, but to date have lost 24 pounds and am continuing to loose. I also went through months of breathing through my mouth as surgery was via my nose and my nose was packed for 2.5 months for healing. This meant I drank alot of water as my mouth and throat were always dry. I am still drinking a ton of water, and turn to water prior to food at most times.
Debbie - hope the reunion is a success
Rita - sending good thoughts. we can only control ourselves and our reactions to events and comments
Linda - welcome back
Hugs to everyone.

Thanks for the welcome. There’s a lot to read here and it’s so great to see everyone’s thoughts, goals, advice and struggles.
To the folks posting about moms and dealing with elderly parent health issues, I hear you and am so glad to be part of a welcoming group. My mom is recovering from hip surgery, and has good days and bad.
I forgot to post the link to Blue Zones challenge … (hope I did this right 🤷🏼♀️)
I’m in week 4 but will keep hanging out here even when it’s over because I like having a community.
take care ❤️Amanda

Michelle … I thought maybe I wasn't going to get much onion grass as the stone areas around my house/pool aren't too bad. But then I looked at my rose bed …. arghh …choked out with onion grass!! I will see what I can do with it this weekend.
Amanda … I checked out the Blue Zone link. Very interesting! Sorry to hear about your mom's hip break. My mom broke both of her hips (separate occasions) in 2022. She never regained the ability to transfer safely without lift equipment (although she kept trying) and now at age 94 resides in a nursing home near me. It was a long and difficult process but she is now doing really well.
Husband and I spent the afternoon outside. Picked up some bags of mulch and dressed up a portion of our beds by the front door. The whole thing will need done next spring but this at least will keep the mud down and looks a heck of a lot better. The nursery gave us 2 huge mums free as they were moving stock out getting ready for their winter operations. Christmas Trees.

Kim - so glad to see you stop in. Glad to hear you are doing better and vision is improving!
Mo - so sorry to hear about that devastating migraine headache. My friend T suffers with them too. They did get better when she quit her job, I think the stress of a horrible supervisor contributed, plus she had a pile of family obligations to take care of. Has the potential buyer for your house completed a purchase and sale agreement or is it still in the preliminary negotiating stage? I'm getting excited for your move - I know you've been swamped, but have you had a chance to put out any feelers for jobs in the windy city? Any place would be lucky to have you. 😉
Rebecca - wow, I love those little figurines Lee is painting. So cute! He's doing a fabulous job.😍 Where did he get them? And your sister's painting is so beautiful. I think you mentioned before she sells her artwork through a gallery? I still remember the bluebirds on sheet music she did. Congrats on the weight loss and how exciting Onederland isn't far away! 😉
Beth - hope your son recovers quickly. That forest is so cool! I had forgotten about beech trees. My dad had some in the woods when I was a kid, I remember collecting and eating beech and hickory nuts. We can get black and English walnuts to grow in my area but they aren't native as far as I know.
Rita - "I love Lucy" seems appropriate. So glad you have her for a buddy!
Melanie - I like your exercise room! It's much more organized than mine which is weights and stuff all over the house, lol. I wish I had a chin-up bar. Not to do a chin-up, but to see how long I could hang, just to test grip and arm strength. I need to check at the gym and if so, prepare to embarrass myself. Wouldn't be the first time. Your dad sounds like a firecracker. We learned a few things from our vet. Putting in drains, stapling hide. Giving injections. I gave myself a lot of Ivermectin and antibiotic needle sticks, lol. In an attempt to be quick wrestling a ewe, my aim sometimes wasn't good.😁
So my tummy was still kind of upset yesterday. Like GERD. Doubt I even got 50 gm of protein in, but get this: I went to the retiree's BBQ last night and they prepared ribeye steaks! The one I was served was small (prob 8 oz) and lightly browned, lol. Still mooing. I wasn't hungry for it at all, so ate a little around the edges and brought the rest home. BUT I did hit the dessert table. Hard. And on my way out the door, the host gave me a big slab of carrot cake just to get rid of it since he's diabetic, lol. Well, I ended up eating even more of it when I got home. ACK! I slept great and when I got up this morning, my tummy felt fine. I must have just been low on sugar. Good grief! 😃We'll see how the A1C looks on Wednesday.
Lisa - good job on the Farmer's carry. I've always thought writing is good therapy.
The benefit of carrying heavy stuff (this is mostly a repeat of what I post every few months 😁) long and rambling, so feel free to skip!:
Now that I've put away my watering cans, I'm making an effort to keep up carrying something heavy every day. I think I've mentioned before that Peter Attia said we need to work on strength training when we are younger to enable us have the ability to carry 5# in each hand for 5 blocks when we are seniors. Google says a city block is 500 ft (actually varies a lot but that's what I picked). My little road is approx. 2800' round trip, which would be over 5 blocks and I think I could carry 5# each hand no sweat.
Now that the weather is turning cooler and wet, that's why I continue to walk in the house carrying weights. Let's say one "lap" in my house is 120'. Ten laps, which is my typical after-meal walk, is 1200'. So maybe 2-3 city blocks. It's pretty easy to carry 5# and I often increase to 8# a few laps on days I'm not doing SWSY.
For me, and I'm not pushing this on anyone else (you do your thing, I'll do mine), carrying something heavy each day might be as important as doing the weight routine. So back to the Farmer's carry and Suitcase carry (carrying weight in only one hand at a time.)
A watering can full of water weighs around 12#. I have a 15# dumbbell I can carry for 30 steps in one hand, switch hands, and walk back 30 steps. It's pretty heavy. When it doesn't feel heavy anymore, I'll pick up the 20# kitty litter container, rinse and repeat. It strengthens my arms, my core, and best of all, my grip.
I need to get this posted, been working on it for a while. The sun just came out - back later.

He gets many from sites selling D & D items, dioramas etc, and most are in the UK. There's different types depending on what era, plus to tailor it to a solo board game, which is what Lee does. This gal and child are on the large side scale wise.
My sister does some local art shows during the holiday season, and does really well. She loves doing the small prints because she can easily paint a handful during an afternoon. Thanks for the inspiring words regarding my journey. Right now I seem to be holding, with no movement on the scale for a week now. Patience Rebecca, patience!

Here is that info on the bacteria to keep mucus lining healthy….
Akkermansia muciniphila
is a Gram-negative anaerobic mucus-layer-degrading bacterium that colonizes the intestinal mucosa of humans and rodents. Metagenomic data have shown an inverse correlation between the abundance of
A. muciniphila
and diseases such as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), obesity, and diabetes. Thus, in recent decades, the potential of this bacterium as an immunomodulatory probiotic for autoimmune and chronic inflammatory diseases has been explored in experimental models. Corroborating these human correlation data, it has been reported that
A. muciniphila
slows down the development and progression of diabetes, obesity, and IBD in mice. Consequently, clinical studies with obese and diabetic patients are being performed, and the preliminary results are very promising. Therefore, this mini review highlights the main findings regarding the beneficial roles of
A. muciniphila
and its action mechanisms in autoimmune and chronic inflammatory diseases.

Lanette, I can attest to your carrying something heavy theory. I feel stronger after a few days of picking up and carrying a 22-lb Jasper for a few days. I will be doing that again tomorrow.
Canadian friends, is the postal strike the same one from last Christmas or a new one? I remember we couldn’t mail a Christmas card to Dave’s cousin who lives in BC.
Happy birthday, Heather. Welcome to Linda and Amanda. Hugs to all who need them.
i gained a little in September. Back to doing the thing for October. Dave had to have some oral surgery so, unfortunately, there is ice cream in the house!I want to whine a little bit about our desktop. I have no idea if Windows 11 is the culprit. Our internet stopped working. Resetting the router and rebooting the computer did not help. I called tech support for the internet. They ran a diagnostic and said there’s nothing wrong with it. It works fine on our iPads, so I tend to agree with them. The computer does not recognize the wi-fi network as available. It is not in airplane mode (I checked.) i thanked the woman for her time, hung up the phone, and hard wired my desktop to the modem with an ethernet cable. Voila! Internet restored. My husband was most impressed with me. Lol.

Thanks Beth - and thanks for sharing about your mom. I’m glad she’s close.
I’ve been working out with the Centr app to try and do more strength training and just noticed they have a 12 week workout program called “menopause strength” 🤣 so I signed up. Day 1 was good … gonna sleep well after that.5 -

Heather - I hope you had a wonderful birthday.
Machka - I like your organizing methods.
Kylia - I would be going to the football game too.
So much more but I can’t keep caught up.
By the time I get any alone time on my trip to catch up it is past midnight.
More pictures in the meantime.Tracey

Tx for the pics Tracey.
Carol - Thinking of you.
Kim - so glad to hear your sight is improving!
Last night was wonderful. The kids so enjoyed it! Max polished off the most gigantic plate of lamb and chips. The candles and birthday song went off perfectly. They even turned the general music down a bit.
I must say the grilled kebabs were the best I've ever had there. Exceptionally tender. Perfectly cooked. I had a mixed chicken and lamb. Starters of their homemade hummus, and an aubergine and yoghurt dip. They do gf breads as well. And the brownies for the candles are gf! :-) Three of us drank a yoghurt drink, and John had a non alcohol beer.
Took an Uber there in the rain, but got a bus back when the rain had stopped. I wore my silver boots!

Good weekend!
Machka-stay safe. What is something I would like to be better at? I think movement like yoga or ballet. I will keep stretching this body. Next would be to find an adult dance class. My life will slow down one of these days.
Heather- what a wonderful celebration!
Tracey-Great pictures! And I did go to the football game. They won!
@drkatiebug Great job on making it work! My DH has a computer that I bought for him to use at home. Took to the shop because it never got used at home. It is Windows 10 and screaming for an update. The problem is that it took a tumble when something fell on it and has cracked glass. So do I update it or do I just get a new one? Decisions....
Lanette- I and my DH know when my sugar drops.....I get HANGRY! It isn't pretty. I get the same reaction if I have artificial sweetener. Glad you enjoyed the carrot cake! My DH believes it is a complete food. Vegetables, fruit, protein (nuts, eggs, and cream cheese), dairy ( again cheese), and fiber. Lol!
II went to the football game last night. It really was fun. I had a hard time keeping track of the ball which my daughter thought was funny. Grandson did not get to play. They did win yay! Afterwards for the seniors, they did photos with the players and their moms. My daughter made sure to get photos with him, her and me as well. I thought was wonderful! I will share when I get some.
Have a great weekend!
Make the best choices you can(sometimes that is the cake)

Added a box to our hive structure. The hive is full up!!
About 3 weeks ago, we got to see something that isn't often seen … a new queen heading out for her mating flights!! 😀 We had to wait 3 weeks to do anything with the hive so that the queen could finish her mating flights and start laying eggs.
The girls (bees) have been a bit techy lately — possibly because of the low pressure systems, impending thunderstorms, wind, etc. and possibly because of the crowded hive. They are normally very calm. My husband has been working in the backyard and got stung on Thursday. Hopefully they'll like the new box and will busy themselves with it.
Got another bicycle ride in! I take the days when I get them. Today was nice … tomorrow is not supposed to be nice.
Then I spent about an hour and a half in the front yard … digging. I'm still working on getting that grass up so I can continue with my garden plan.

Rebecca - Are those figurines D&D things that your DH paints?
Kay - last year the workers were ordered back to work although nothing by was accomplished with the strike. This time they are on strike to continue that but also because the government has stated they are ending door to door service over the next 10 years.
It’s a mess. I doubt there will be a resolution soon.Tonight is our party we are going to clean up my brother’s shop this morning and prepare some food. I’m hoping it’s as beautiful night as it was last night.

Heather - Your celebration looks like wonderful fun!
Annie - Well done on the meditation and exercise! I'm always pleased with myself the days that I get my yoga done.
Tracey - Love the images, glad you're having beautiful weather for your time at home. It looks like such a lovely land.
Linda - Welcome back!
Melanie - Well done on the cashmere sweater - we all need to treat ourselves sometimes!
Rita - It's good to see you whenever you are up to posting.
Corey's got his third cup of coffee, contemplating life as he explores the interwebs… His jeans are done in the washer, will peel them out and probably get them on the line once the sun is completely up. These cooler days will get them dry since the sun is out, but takes a bit longer than when it's already up to 90 by 9 a.m.!
Broke down and picked up Netflix for the rest of October and November, so I could watch the Great British Baking Show. After I had watched the latest episode, I ran across a comedy series called "North of North," about a small town in far, far north Canada.
I really enjoyed the whole first season of it! Kind of reminds me of "Corner Gas," but with a few more people who have at least a little bit of sense. There's heart to it, though - and no sappy happy endings, more like life is, with lots of laughter and a couple tears mixed in. Good writing.
For those who don't know, my husband is from Alaska, so it tends to come up a lot in our lives, for whatever reason.
No idea what the day holds, other than a little more laundry. Hope it's a grand weekend for everyone.
Later,
Love,

Edie came over this afternoon because they had to cancel the cycle Triathlon that my son and DDIL were running. High winds and official warning, so they had no choice. It was for kids.
She's still here. She and Bea brought us over the presents they had bought with their own money for both of us. Mine was a v large canvas. I painted this. Thinking of putting it in our hall which has muted lilac walls.

Mo … I need to make a correction to the preventative migraine medications I mentioned in a previous post. My son does NOT take both Nurtec and Qulipta every day. He takes Qulipta every day as a preventative and then adds Nurtec when he has a migraine.
I'm getting a scratchy throat and really hoping I'm not coming down with son's crud. Time will tell.
Heading outside for some sunshine and fresh air. Think I'll tackle the rose bed with the onion grass.
