WOMEN AGES 50+ FOR OCTOBER 2025

Hi everyone;
Going back to work tonight. I thought about what you said, M, and I have had surgery on my septum as well, and I did note improvement. However, the injury I sustained, hitting my head in the shallow pool when my float ring flipped, has caused the occipital portion of my head to hurt, along with my neck. Moreover, the MRI did show damage to that area and concurs that it can cause pain. I may need to see a neurologist about this. My headaches in the past, before the mishap, were bad, I thought, due to the Los Angeles smog. They got pretty bad, and I didn't carry medication with me. By the time I got home from work, my headache had worsened instead of improved. I do try natural things like using Headache steamers in the shower and applying Plant Guru to the areas of my pain and headache, which helps with the neck pain. Ice packs also work for the stabbing eye pain and the flashes in my eye. Migraine tea sometimes helps, and just keeping my room dark, but if I don't take anything, I wake up in pain. I will make an appt. to see my eye doc too. When I had a cerclage to keep my son in, it was pretty painful. Morphine did not help with the pain as much as having an ice pack. So, I understand what you are saying, and I also try natural techniques with my patients first. However, at times, it is best to treat the symptoms and investigate further. Thank you, M You did give me food for thought as always.
You all thank you for the well wishes. Heather, continue to enjoy your birthday. Margaret, I hope you don't mind if I take a picture of your flower on the lily pads. It is gorgeous.
Melanie, I posted pictures of Rose's elbow. Her coat is so dry. I put coconut oil on it.
M, I took piano with my kids, and I loved it, but my teacher moved to the coast, and everyone wanted to stop learning. I was so sad, because they were so good at it. DS got a superior rating at the Bach festival, and DD got an Excellent rating. DH thought DD was better than DS, but he worked harder. That is why he rated better, and I thought the opposite was true. DD was more into Dance. I was getting pretty good as well. If you don't use it, you lose it. So, go for it.
Since the COVID pandemic, I tend to stay home and avoid people. So I doubt it is COVID, Beth. Time will tell. I was going to test myself last night, but I am out of tests.
Have a fantastic week, you all. Rita, I hope all is well with you. I haven't heard from you. Glad to hear from Sue.
XO,
Mo from Mississippi

Sorry, I missed a couple of pages before posting. Thank you, Melanie, for assessing Rose's elbow. Good to see you, Rita. I worry when I haven't heard from you. What kind of spider is that? Beautiful picture, Heather. By the way, you look radiant!. Lannette, we are waiting to hear the offer he is making. I am working on completing my CEUs to renew my Illinois license. I lost 1 pound this week, and I will take it. The move will be a process. That is it for now. Lisa, what are you going to do with that brick retention wall? As for the snake, let him be!!! I tend to leave spiders alone, too, if they are outside, but inside, they need to go. Lisa, are you close to the river? Since you call it River Valley? When I am off again, I will share more news.
XO,
Mo in Mississippi

Well, as they say on Games Of Thrones… Winter is coming. We are at single digit daily highs (Celsius) and snow is predicted for parts of the province. Fall time just seems so short.
Rodeo was ok. Too many people and soooooo expensive. I feel horrible today. Got home after midnight and didn’t sleep well. Dealing with a headache that’s been persistent for 3 days. I am hoping it’s from the dramatic change in weather.
Here is a picture of the 10 horses on the trailer headed for the Miss Rodeo Canada horsemanship competition. They were all very good boys and treated the girls well.
Rita- dogs are the best 🩷 Mine have brought me a lot of joy as well when feeling down. Give Lucy a big hug from me 🙂
Lanette- I have also been unwittingly “vaccinated”. Pregnancy testing at the back of cows on windy days while topical ivermectin is being applied has gotten a lot in and on me. I am definitely worm free. Ewes are hard to wrestle! Not as bad as a pig but close!! I may adopt the motto “carry something heavy everyday”. Good for the muscles and bones.
Dr Katie- same postal strike. They were forced back to work for awhile but have now shut down completely again. Seems like everybody is striking. The teachers start on Monday in our province. Congrats on the IT work- anytime I have to figure out something on my phone/ipad/computer it’s stressful. I often just get lucky and press the right thing 🤷🏻♀️
Saturday is house chore day and I am putting it off. I feel off. No kids or husband all day so maybe I’ll just chill.
Take care of yourselves,
Melanie, Alberta

Napa Valley,CA,
OOh enjoy your reunion! I have never been to one! I guess in 2009 I did go to a choir one, but it was mostly students that were my sisters age, as the reunion was commemorating a Europe trip that the choir had done when my sister was in. They kind of made it for just anyone that had Mr. Barber as a choir director (which I did when I was in girls glee freshman year. He was turning 90 yrs old that summer. It was fun, and I sang some opera acapella for him.😁
I have never made a dump cake!

Tracey,
Yep, He is a patient painter. He sits hunched over then wonders why his back is sore🙃.
His current village game. He constructed all the buildings just PDF files he copied at a print shop from the websites. Then all his guys lined up, and a photo of his other buildings (more of a resin type construction) and smaller figures he paints for other solo games.
Its so great to see him at it again, as there was a time when he couldn't paint, nor figure out these games. It was frustrating for him!

Lisa,
You are blessed with warmer days still! I suppose if it got as hot here as in your slice of heaven, I probably would change my way of thinking. It gets to 60' and that's about it. I wear my sweater out and about like a coat. At night we play electric blanket bingo, clicking on our side before padding to the bathroom. Then gosh forbid I don't turn it off before falling asleep. Wake up with itchy feet because they're so warm! I suppose the fact that I have my blanket on a 5 setting might have something to do with that! Doh! I am not patient, I want heat now!

Melanie,
Your horses are stunning! Even if its just their back and butts. I have always been fascinated with horses in general. Such magnificent, sensitive, intuitive creatures! I was petrified of my sisters horse as a child. My sister had put me on the back, behind her saddle and I was bucked off, knocked the wind out of me. See, that there is called a core memory, because it was so scary, yet my sister was on the horse giggling! Lol we are both Geminis so we bickered a lot as kids! Squabbles mostly. We now get along like peas and carrots.
Sorry you're feeling under the weather. You need soup, and a day of rest.💖👍🏼

Machka - how thrilling to see that new queen taking flight. Nature doing what it has done for eons. That made my day. 😁
Heather - love the photos, looks like a wonderful time at the birthday meal. It sounded scrumptious. The grands are looking so grown up.
Debbie - have a wonderful time at the reunion. I'd love to see a photo of the gang.
Kylia - agree 100% with your DH about that carrot cake, it's got to be one of the perfect foods, lol. I dug around yesterday and found a recipe for apple cake using almond flour that I want to try, so kind of the same thing. Maybe I need to wait until after the blood draw on Wednesday though.😉
Beth - sunshine and fresh air will help bake those germs out of you. Is your son able to sit in the sunshine? Hope he's on the mend!
Allie - looks like a fun time for the grands. Santa already….gasp!
Kay - good job getting that heavy lifting in with Jasper. And getting that printer hooked up. Nice there's a work-around.
Melanie - what well behaved horses all lined up so nice, and I see one has a braided mane! 🤩 Are they quarter horses? Didn't summer go quickly, especially at your latitude? Maybe it's our age. I try not to get upset when we get the rare super hot or super cold days. In the blink of an eye, the next season rolls around and I get to complain about different weather, lol. Hope your headache gets better.
I started this post hours ago and kept getting sidelined by needing to find features that I discovered are no longer supported with W11. Like downloading photos from my old Canon camera. Blast it! 😢 Again, Chromebook to the rescue. I had to have AI Copilot guide me through the process with the Chromebook but now all is good. I guess if I didn't have that Chromebook, I'd be buying another laptop.😣 Or a new camera. Probably a new phone too. $$$$$ This Dell I'm using is barely a year old. Just get out the checkbook, right? Nope. For what little I do taking photos, what I have cobbled together is fine. But I guess the good thing about this morning is my brain got to do some "heavy lifting" figuring all of this out.😁
OK better close this one before it gets to be tomorrow somehow.

Mo - We live just over 10 miles away from the Arkansas River, which is quite big. Barge traffic on the river isn't as heavy as on the Mississippi or Missouri Rivers, but a lot of stuff makes its way up and down the Arkansas. There's a massive lock and dam just 11 miles from the house.
Was glad to be ten miles from the river in 2019 - the river rose as much as ten feet above flood stage, and this part of the country stayed wet for months. We own 11 acres on the side of a hill in the Boston Mountains, which are the southern foothills of the Ozark Mountains. That little square dot at the bottom left of the pink area is where we're situated.
Heather - so frustrating when the colors you can see in front of you don't look at all the same on a computer screen, I know.
Melanie - Love the pic of the horses. I could almost smell that combination of hay and grain and leather and horse that smells like nothing else, and feel the warmth that comes from all those big bodies in one space. I rode a lot as a youngster, but haven't ridden for decades now. If you decide to start a dude ranch or something, let me know… 🥰
Rebecca - Lee does some great work. Does he do anything with the buildings and people afterward? Sell them? Play games with them? Definitely warmer than 60! It's 78 degrees outside now, beautiful and sunny… Corey's out watering things, but that's honestly a little warm for me.
I woke up with a visual in my head that I can't get out, and I'm going to see what I can do to get it out and onto something physical, like cloth or canvas.
Later,
Lisa in AR6 -
happy saturday everyone.

Mo Yes you may copy the lily pad picture. It is one I took not AI. It is one of my favorites from the Missouri Botanical Garden!
We are having above temps right now it is 80 and I love it. We will be back to are average temps next week which is a high of 60. I already got some light sweaters and sweatshirts out because we had temps in the 60's in early Sept.

Lisa,
He just adapts games to buildings, and scenery. He has some Asian style buildings, some Pablo style stuff, various shrubbery, and trees, plus rocks, to strategize troops or whatever with. He recreates battles in games with random type outcomes. He's a kid at heart.👍🏼💖
He just keeps them until the next time he needs them. At this rate I expect a wall full of buildings, and such.😁🙃

You are so talented! If you would be so kind to make small cards for my Christmas shelf, that would be so cool!
There is only 3.50 inches to work with. I never know what do put there. All the stuff currently on it gets put someplace else when Christmas comes. I would love to display your nice work this year, and every year.💖🎄

Well I fell tonight out in the paddock while feeding horses. Luckily my DD and DGS were out there too and were able to help me up but I am going to be stiff and sore tomorrow. Skinned up my hands a little but no other injuries. Grace is definitely not my strong point. Old mare was trying to avoid a dose of bute and turned right in front of me putting me off balance.
Kim - so glad your vision is improving.
Carol - hope your DH is doing better.
Everyone take care, Sue in WA

Oh, so sorry, Sue. These things just come out of nowhere. I remember Beth's knee, when the dog flew into her.
Today my knee and thigh are a bit uncomfortable and difficult. I'm having a rest day. I've done some counter push ups, but no lower body stuff for today.
Just watched a few different videos on retirement. I was initially caught by one that said, "What happened to Norm?" Couldn't resist. Turns out the couple took early retirement at 60 and 58. Have had a wonderful time travelling, now 50 years married, and Norm had his 70th birthday. Seemed to be fit, happy and healthy. Then he went for a routine check up and the doctor sent him straight to A&E. Was in hospital for a week, and had a bypass operation. Died on the operating table.
Such a sweet couple. 'This is our Retirement ', if anyone wants to watch.
The lesson? ..... Just to enjoy life while you can. It may not be travelling, but don't put up with boredom, or unhappiness. Only you can make your life a good one. We always have more choices than we think. Life is so short. Make it sweet.
I also watched another video with a solo older female traveller. Very adventurous. Personally, I adore my home life, and my writing, painting, and grandchildren, and travel is a beautiful bonus, but we should all go for our heart's desire. If you can dream it, begin it.

Good morning my friends!
Machka so glad your headaches got better. Yay! And Yay for your hive flourishing! Hope the winds die down. That's got to be a challenge for the bees.
Margaret that's a lovely water lily. Beautiful flowers from filthy mud are a symbol of the beauty that often comes from a messy start…and that's fascinating about A. Muciniphilia. Can it be encouraged to grow?
Beth Oh no! Covid! Hope it is mild and over quickly
Mo I had migraines that got better. I still get headaches from weather but not as bad as they were.
Lanette and Kay Yay for fixing your computers! Such smart women!
Heather you have a lovely family.
Kylia I can't follow football without good graphics.
Lisa I'm not ready for yoga anymore. Too much flesh and too little balance.
Sue so sorry you fell! So scary.
My 98 year old Uncle is doing better but still in the hospital until his kidneys stabilize. Now they are talking about rehab for him, which is much better than previous talk about kidneys shutting down.
I still haven't gotten my Dad to take a shower. I forgot about it, which makes me feel guilty.
I had a nightmare last night about losing my phone. Very upsetting.
So I was a little sore yesterday but walked a bit for a rest day. Today it's back on the bike. My body really needs this. I fall into laziness just watching my Dad. But he is 91 and I am 63, so I am too young to be so sedentary and unfit.
May you all have a great day filled with exercise and vegetables and good things! May you all be happy, healthy, safe, and free!

Heather - Understand your sense of both wonder and satisfaction. We had that spate of mental adventure this summer, thinking seriously about a future of RV life, even going and walking through luxury RVs. But both of us are really enjoying autumn coming in here, at the house, in our little bit of paradise. Getting past the brutal summer and into our favorite season of the year helps. There are just so many reasons to enjoy this space we've created for ourselves, and so many reasons not to go a-wandering… Always good to think about the possibilities, but I think they sometimes make you value what you already have even more, and what you're already doing.
Annie - You beat up on yourself a lot, kiddo. You're doing the best you can for your dad and for yourself; don't forget to give yourself a "yay" for that, too! And I'll give you all my vegetables and keep the yoga for myself, if that's OK! 😂🐈⬛🥰
Sue - So glad there was someone there to help! Those unexpected falls have some unexpected consequences. Take care of yourself, dear heart.
Tracey - Woke up thinking about you… I think you're traveling this weekend. Hope you're doing OK.
As you can see by the picture, someone REALLY wants to be on my lap this morning, even though there's very little room between my tummy and the keyboard.
The scruffy bit on the back of her neck is her last flea and tick treatment for the year. I made Corey give it to her, since I get tired of being the bad cop. The nights will soon be too cold for the little parasites to survive. The deer bring them into the yard as they wander through and then Egg brings them in the house.
Well, she figured it out. Going to have to disturb her soon so I can get Corey his third cup of coffee.
I do love this life. The changes the Skyrizi brought make me feel like a drowned ship that's been raised to the surface, emerging from the depths, shedding the old pain and years of struggle, like water sheeting off the decks.
Able to float again.
There are still some leaks, not everything is perfect, but then again, it didn't start that way. I'm very nearly seaworthy, and that's what matters.
And that's it, kids, I'm off to the races,
Love,
Lisa in AR8 -
😀 I listened to a podcast yesterday with the happiness hack to "take the trip". It got me thinking about whether there was a trip that I wanted to take and concluded (again) that I love my life at home. I get outside to walk and work in my yard and have dancing, dogs, my exercise bike, and tv to enjoy indoors.
😀 Our trip today will be be to the grocery store for curbside pickup and maybe later to buy bags of soil for some upcoming projects after I clear out the pumpkins, sunflowers, tomatoes, and nasturtiums I love my simple projects.
😀 Annie, my walking friend spent several years in her 70's caring for her husband who had Alzheimer's. She spent a lot of time sitting in the living room with him listening to music. She was able to get out for about an hour in the very early to walk with me while he slept. She had a baby monitor that allowed her to work in her garden in the back yard. She had alarms on both doors to allow her to know if he decided to go outside. She never mentioned whether he bathed regularly and I never asked.
😀 Heather, my decision to retire at age 58 came in part after a conversation in which someone used the phrase "quality of life". I have not regretted the decision even though my retirement income would have been a few hundred dollars a month higher if I'd waited until a few years later.
😥 Sue, sorry to hear that you fell. Glad you had help right away to get up.
❤️ Carol, hugs to you and your husband.
😱 My computer keeps threatening me about Windows 10 and I ignore it. I'm saving important files on flash drives in case the whole thing crashes. I have Jake's practically new computer that has Windows 11.

Sundays are brunch days here. Baked hash brown casserole, bacon, sausages, eggs done in some fashion and toast. 6 adults, a toddler, and one 10 month old. We’ll probably do supper here as well- I took out a chicken to roast.
Woke up through the night with neuralgia. Not sure what brought it on. Usually wind but I wasn’t out side yesterday. I got it from my mom who got it her dad and I have passed it on to my son. It’s like someone is sticking a hot poker in the side of your ear every few minutes. Advil and a heating pad have helped. I am hoping it will improve as I want to go for a bike ride this afternoon. The fall foliage is beautiful but won’t last long.
Rebecca- pretty cool what your husband does. Must need steady paws for that work. I would not have the patience, and my back would ache too! I am not crazy about horses. At least cows are honest- they plain don’t like people. But horses are sneaky and sometimes just want to get a bite or a quick kick in. At least cows can’t bite and they don’t kick quite as high. Great picture 😊
Lanette- these are quarter horse or QH X draft cross. They only had about an hour and a half on that trailer so it wasn’t too long a trip.
Lisa- my husband had at one time suggested a dude ranch. He is an extrovert, I am not! I love my peace and quiet. I also reminded him that I chose my profession and it was not in the food and entertainment industry. We also worry about outside people coming in as there is a lot of rural crime and little police presence. So we want people looking around at what might interest them to steal. There was a time we didn’t lock our doors or our vehicles. Not anymore. People are even having beef stolen out of their freezers. But if you ever find yourself in Alberta we’d be happy to have you 🙂 Loved “Able to float again” 💕 Rang true for me.
Sue- be careful out there! Hope you are doing ok.
Heather- got a reminder of the fragility of life as well last week. A friend of ours fell off of a grain bin and died instantly. He was my age and his kids the same age as mine. I can’t stop thinking about the family.
Take care everybody,
Melanie, Alberta

I would be HONORED to make something for your Christmas shelf Rebecca! Thank you so much for asking! <3 We'll chat some more about exactly what you're looking for, but I have some ideas.
OH NO, Sue! Hope you're feeling better soon. Mom sarcastically always said, "Grace is my middle name." I could fall going upstairs.
And I am absolutely serious peeps! Creating and sending cards is my passion. Please let me know if you'd like to be on my list.Love and Blessings

Melanie - your horses are handsome. About cows—-when my dad was in the dairy business a cow he was milking kicked him in the mouth and his s teeth were loose for months. Luckily he didn’t lose any.
Rebecca - those paintings your husband does look great and must take a lot of time & patience.
Lisa - thanks for all the photos of Egg. She always looks at home in your craft room.
Day 12 in the hospital. They are waiting for his kidneys to show improvement. When they do, we may get to go home.

Machka - love the bee update! I want bees but travel too much to give them the care they need … but one day!
Lisa - it makes me happy to see another lover to Great British Baking. I am personally trying to reset my diet with less baked good, but I love to see all the treats anyway. And love to see people compete and support each other at the same time!I’ve visited my older kid - he’s happy and healthy with a fridge full of yummy food (thanks to mom 😉), and tomorrow I visit kid #2. Hard to workout and eat right on vacation, but I had a quinoa salad while watching my son polish off a steak sandwich and beer (#healthygoals).

Someone asked me what kind of spider that was I posted. It is a tarantula, big as my palm. They do not bite or attack unless you poke them or make them mad. DH and I think they are cool! One year, one of them climbed into the dog-food bowl then climbed out and into the water bowl where it stayed to take a drink. So funny/weird to see that. They always show up just in time for Halloween! https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&opi=89978449&url=https://www.colorado.com/la-junta/events/la-junta-tarantula-fest&ved=2ahUKEwiI0arwvI2QAxXBOUQIHZ9iAaMQFnoECD4QAQ&usg=AOvVaw20IrP75fKWc44smscJHEuq
Hope that link works. It links to a tarantula march celebration!
The tarantula march, or "tarantula migration," is the annual journey adult male tarantulas make in the fall to find mates, a process that can lead them to cross roads in large numbers. This mating ritual begins as the weather cools and occurs from late summer through mid-October in areas like the desert Southwest and Colorado. While fascinating, these spiders are generally docile, playing an important ecological role, and are not aggressive toward humans. Why They March
Mating Season: The "march" is a quest for females, as male tarantulas leave their burrows to find a mate.
- Maturity: Males typically begin their journey when they reach maturity, which can be around eight to 10 years old.
- End of Life: For the male, this is a final, often one-way trip; their quest for love is their last mission before they likely die within months.
When and Where to See Them
Time of Year: Look for them from late summer into early fall, with a peak often occurring in mid-September to early October.
- Locations: The phenomenon is visible in various regions of the United States, including Arizona, Colorado, California, New Mexico, and Texas.
What to Do if You Encounter Them
Respect Wildlife: Leave the tarantulas to their important work of reproducing for the next generation.
- Stay Safe: If you want to observe them, stay on public land, pull over safely, and do not stop in the middle of the road.
- Handle with Care: If a tarantula wanders into your personal space, a gentle nudge with a stick is enough to direct it away, as they are not aggressive animals.
Enough on spiders! Each day, I walk Lucy before breakfast. Its routine now and she will not let me sleep! During that walk, I let her run, (we walk in a quiet part of the park with no people around) and about halfway, I stop and meditate using my Balance app for 10 minutes, Lucy protects me! LOL Makes for a nice way to start the day. I end up walking her 3-4 times a day. Good for both of us. My son is back in rehab and DH is trying to quit drinking, so things look better, but I'm not sure they ARE better yet. I am waiting for the 'bomb' to fall. So, I have my ups and downs. Lucy is my emotional support pet for sure!
Thought for today:
Did you hear about the dog who was floating in the ocean?
He was a good buoy!
