Training for my first half marathon what is the average time (how long) I should expect to finish. I normally run 5Ks.

  • Shoot for 2 hours, that's a pace of 9:10 per mile.

    What's your 5k pace?
You can find guides online that indicate time/pace for different races based on your current speed.
I'm aiming to finish in under 2:30 - I'm a newish, slow runner so this seem realistic for me.

Don't worry about your time for your first half marathon. Just set your goal to FINISH (with a smile on your face). You have an automatic PR because it's your first. I don't know that there is an "average" time to finish. Some people are really fast, some people are slower. Just have a good time. You only get to run your first half marathon once. Good luck!

I think there are too many variables to know what your finish time will be. If the course is "flat and easy" your time will be better than if it's a "hilly and challenging" course. The temperature will also come into play.

You might be able to get an estimate by looking at your patterns of time for your long runs and calculate those into a half marathon time.

Instead of worrying about a finish time, my suggestion would be to just go out and enjoy the half marathon. Soak it up and enjoy the experience.

If you want to shoot for a specific time, here is a link to a race calculator where you can plug in your 5k time & it estimates your time for other races. (but I still say just enjoy your first half! )
