OOh no Melanie, I am sorry you had a fall! Take a nice hot shower before bed and ointment yourself up. Big hugs! Be nice to that body! I declare soup and French bread today!

My knee has been bothering me all day. I've ordered a knee brace from Amazon, to take on the cruise with me, because I don't want to suddenly find the excursions difficult. It's just an insurance, just in case ..... I think Rori found hers helpful. One or two excursions have steps, or uneven terrain.
So it's been a quiet day. I watched a few more 'Norm' videos. So strange to think of the couple's joint plans for their future just evaporating in an instant. John and I retired early, when we got married. We did a lot of travelling in the early days, but now our home life is vitally important to us. My writing is top of my list. And the grandchildren keep us young. Edie said yesterday that she just likes talking to us. She asked us if we ever argued. We were honest!!!! It's not often, but, when we do, it's massive!
Fairly busy week ahead. Flu and covid jab on Tuesday.

Did The Method precision Abs DVD. It was really more yoga and pilates. Then did a part of the Ultimate Power Yoga DVD. First I fed Ganon. To try to get him over his anxiety, what we do is feed him in front of the dumpster/pool shed/garage and while he’s eating tap on the door. Eventually, he’ll realize (we hope) that there’s nothing to be anxious about.
kylia – I’m always so jealous of how flexible the cats are. The cute clothes are a winner! My husband says that pineapple pizza is a complete food – dairy, vegetables, fruit, even carbs...lol
Made brownie cookies for Vince, J & C. Got the casserole for dinner tonight made. Finished painting the door. Not a whole lot. Just the places where Vince drilled holes for the door for the cats when they were kittens. Then cut the grass, just a little parts, parts Vince couldn’t get with the tractor yesterday. Didn’t do much in the backyard since there are nails and all other stuff all around. I’m sure they’ll clean up. Sprayed this expanding stuff in these holes in the one pergola (we have no idea what’s making the holes) then put down red ant killer.
Annie – so very sorry about your uncle. Yea for the exercise!!!! You go girl
Linda – how nice to see you popping in!
In one way I like having Ganon here. Although Jess says that I shouldn’t feed him people food, any leftovers I give a small portion to him. Like the other night we had a little bit of garlic bread leftover. Normally, I probably would have had it just because I don’t like throwing out food (holdover from childhood). Now I don’t feel bad because I’m not throwing it out yet I don’t have it (I need it like I need a hole in the head)
katie – you impressed ME
My shoulders were cold last night and I went to pull up the blanket. Only 3 cats thought that was a good place to sleep. So I got to have cold shoulders!
Sue – so sorry about your fall but glad D and GS were there
Carol – hope you get home real soon

Todays Meals are just a 1/2 Mini 8" pizza, dinner veggies and dip, with a large V8 tomato drink, snacks are yogurt cup, and chocolate protein drink
Tomorrow I am planning on a nice parmesan saucy spinach and ravioli dish! I had planned it for tonight's dinner, but with having pizza, it just wasn't going to work out.
over planner, yep that's me!

Ladies, I finally have a chance to sit down and read posts and catch up.
The weather is nice, it's sunny and near 70. Was going to mow tomorrow or Tuesday when it's supposed to be warmer. So I went out and got a little weed eating done. Wasn't really hungry for lunch yet so guess what, climbed on the mower. I think that's the last mow until I spread leaves on the lawn and chop them up a bit in a few weeks.
Made another batch of quinoa in my little rice cooker. That's a slick way to do it for sure.
Lisa and Barbie and Heather - there's no place like home. 😁
Rebecca - thanks for posting your food diaries. My tummy is still a little "off" but I'm going to try to get in 80 gm of protein today. Just not very hungry. Odd for me.
Sue - glad you weren't badly hurt and even gladder your DD and DGS were there when it happened.
Rita - we once had a pet tarantula named Ruby - after my DH's ex boss who was a witch, lol. The spider was nicer! Fascinating little creatures, thanks for that info. I don't mind spiders and snakes, though there's at least one poisonous spider out here. Not quite as bad as a black widow, but nasty nonetheless. Again, "I love Lucy!"
Carol - crossing fingers your DH recovers enough to go home, I'll bet he's getting antsy.
Melanie - your breakfast sounded delicious. Your children all live close to you? Anyone on a coast? When I was a kid, a neighbor on a farm nearby fell into the silo and suffocated. I think farming and ranching have to be one of the most hazardous professions with the animals and equipment.
Heading back out - more I wanted to comment on but I've got the bug right now, lol.
Reminder tomorrow is "Weekly Check-In" for those participating.

Hey kids,
The weekend is coming to a close here in Arkansas… We try to stay in the habit of being in bed by 9 p.m., as Corey has to be up at 4:30 every weekday morning to leave by 5:15. It's not enough sleep, but it's more than if we went to bed at 10 or 11, like we used to.
I'm retired (for those who don't know) so it doesn't matter to me what time we go to bed… I think I feel a tad guilty because I do exactly what I want all day while he's working a 50-hour week, so I do tend to center my time when he's here around him… OK, I indulge him unmercifully. Can't help it.
Amanda - I do love the Great British Baking Show, and have branched out now to the Canadian version on Netflix (I think) and the Australian version on YouTube. The American one is just kind of annoying, for some reason. But the best part is what you said - people are so kind to each other, they help each other and cheer for each other and even cry for each other. And there is no money involved. Just a cake plate and a title. I love that. I'm going to hate when Prue Leith leaves. But I do not bake any of the things they do either! I'm a bread baker from way back, but I don't do much of that now, either, except the occasional focaccia and pizza dough. Still keep a pound of yeast in the freezer just for that. Lasts for years that way. 😎😂
Annie - Something Barbie said triggered a memory… My father took a bath once a year, whether he needed it or not. It was quite a production, considering the fact that we hauled water in from a well, and Mama heated the water for baths on the stove. He said bathing was removing his "essential oils," and no one was willing to tell him different. He smelled of Right Guard and cigars and funk, mostly. Not advising that you have your dad clean up only once a year, but he may not need it lots… Just saying.
Relaxed weekend all the way around. Corey finished up the mud and the baseboards in the spare bedroom this morning, and then put his head in a book the rest of the day. Just a bit of sanding and I'll be able to get that floor masked off and get started on the painting finally. Really looking forward to being able to sort both rooms out.
Finally got started on the other kind of painting, the kind that's been occupying my mind. Have found these images won't go away unless I at least try to make them real. Actually, it's a multi-media type thing, don't know if it will work out. I'm painting the curtains for the first bedroom we finished. If it works out, I'll post a picture. It may be a complete disaster - but if it is, it will be a big one, at about 6 feet square.
For those who remember - that last big painting, the three-feather painting on the refrigerator, is working on my last nerve too. Still not liking it, a couple months out. Its days are numbered… While I've got the white paint out for the back bedroom, I might just roll a couple coats over those feathers… 😎👀🤔😂
Later,
Love,
Lisa8 -
Lisa, I will go through that "working on my last nerve" thing with my colouring too. I worked on one recently way too long and finally put it out of sight. There was something not quite right about it.

Went to the YM pool today and did some range of motion exercises, then sat in the hot tub for a bit. Took DGS with me so DD could have some alone time. Felt less stiff and sore after that.
We got a new stand alone freezer this weekend. Needed more freezer storage so we can take better advantage of sales. It is hooked up but we haven't put anything in it yet.
Annie - my DH was not diagnosed with dementia but the last few years before he died he refused to shower too. Drove me nuts.
Machka - I thought of you while I was on vacation. My son's apartment has 20 steps up to it and I was walking the dog 5 or 6 times a day. At my cousin's there were 15 steps but I didn't have to do them as often. I can tell my legs are stronger though after all those flights of stairs.
Everyone take care, Sue in WA

Good morning my friends!
Lisa yes I beat on myself as part of getting motivated…Yay for Skyrizi!
I did do my bike and rowing yesterday. But today my left hip is very sore so something needs adjustment. I don't take painkillers anymore. I could try ice but the pain is fairly deep. The pain probably won't last. But I think I will rest on the couch today. I wonder exactly what I did because this is new.
Barbie Dad doesn't sleep through despite the trazodone. He gets up and eats cookies or ice cream. He was just up now, asking if church was today. So he might sleep again for hours and he might be back down in twenty minutes. Because his sleep is so irregular I can't just get up early to have my own time. Well, I can try to meditate but I get interrupted.
And you all are right Dad can probably go a month without a shower. But he does scratch. And there is some odor, now that I'm watching for it.
Melanie you are right Life is short and precious.
Carol hugs for you and DH. Will he come home or go to rehab?
Rita walking Lucy with a meditation stop sounds lovely! And I am so glad your son and DH are trying to improve. Yay!
Heather I carried a knee brace in my car for quite awhile. It can save the day after a misstep.
Michele you have worked so hard to share your kitchen. Sounds like overall it has been a success, everyone has been fed, and no big fights. Yay!
Sue yay for hot tubs!
May you all have a great day! May you be happy, healthy, safe, and free!

The knee brace has arrived. I've tried it on and it seems OK. I will only use it if I have to.
I woke up at 5.17, so, after I had done my morning exercises, I was able to do my writing. Also managed some machine work, but rowing doesn't seem to suit my knee, so I did most on the recumbent bike. Then I went out to buy eggs for tonight's dinner. I'm recreating a dish we loved, years ago, on our two holidays in Cantabria, Spain. Prawns, and loads of garlic, in scrambled eggs. (With asparagus). You could smell it in the restaurant, before it arrived, bubbling, at your table. It was a country restaurant and all the locals ordered it.

Hey, kids,
Just a quick drive-by - have to leave in an hour to get labs done in town.
Machka - That's it exactly. That painting has never been quite right. And it's not possible to put away a refrigerator where you can't see it, so it's paint over it or put a curtain over it! 😂👀😂 The hazards of expressing creativity on kitchen appliances perhaps… Ha! First world problem if there was, I guess.
Annie - I was actually talking about how hard on yourself you are about how you care for your dad. He wouldn't be able to live at home at all if it weren't for you, and you're giving him an amazing gift by caring for him there. How you motivate for exercise wasn't what I was referring to, darlin'.
Tonight in the northern hemisphere is the full moon, which is a harvest moon (tomorrow in Machka's neighborhood) and if you're out and about at moonrise, below and to the right of the rising moon you might see Saturn, visible to the naked eye as a much brighter dot.
Going to go hiking through the hinterlands of the Internet as I usually do in the mornings, then whisk myself off to town to be perforated. I will admit, it's a little weird to have a decent-looking shirt on and a bra at this hour of the day. I'm becoming a hermit…
Later, y'all,
Love,
Lisa in AR7 -
Interestingly enough, my carbs which are 120, and my protein which is 105 grams, seem to be my hardest thing to balance. If I eat protein, 9 times out of 10 it has carbs, so its a tipping of the scales. I have my go tos which are cottage cheese, or Oikos triple zero yogurt, which have protein, then my turkey or chicken bites.
I have noticed a change in my appetite from summery foods to the more savory winter foods. I will soon end my raw veggies kick to more steamed veggies. Well maybe not end it, but definitely taper down some!👍🏼💖
Healing tummy vibes sent your way!

Annie, I'm with Lisa on all you do for your Dad! You are awesome! Being a caregiver, especially for your parent, is one of the hardest jobs, but just know you can't pour from an empty cup. Know things you should or could get done, well if they're not earth shattering or anything, get put by the wayside. Its ok. 💖

Look at me up at 4:30 am, (husbands fault as his brain pings awake at 4:30 am). I stepped on the scale and I pinged too. Its a normal response. I was 209.6 then went down to 207.6 and today I am 208.8. Boink! Weight loss is definitely not linear in my case!

Both my husband and I have the crud so we'll be staying put for a while. Feels mostly like a bad cold. We'll be fine.
I plan to mow the back yard after the morning dew has evaporated. Expecting rain tomorrow and I'd like to make sure the areas of the yard that have growth are short. Most of the yard doesn't need mowed.
Lanette … I keep meaning to tell you that I bought the needle meat tenderizer and it does help with the monstrous chicken breasts. It especially did a good job on a london broil that I marinated overnight.
Sue … sorry to hear that you fell!
Have a good day!

John took the car out today for its weekly run. These are a couple of bucolic pictures that he took of the South Downs Way. He walked along it for about an hour.
I can see a Christmas card in the last one.

Yes, that last photo is circular in how the folage grows and looks like a pathway in an enchanted forest.👍🏼💖
Glad you got your knee brace, one less thing to worry about.💖👍🏼
I have yet to drive our new car, no real desire to, is that weird? I mean if there was ever an emergency I would call 911. If I ever find myself alone I would not just automatically start driving it, I would just walk everywhere. If I broke a hip or something, I wouldnt be driving either.

Good morning. I'm still around. This semester has been too busy. I have hardly any free time. I'm reading a long, but by time I have a moment to respond, it's too late.
It's a short work week for me because of fall breather, but I took the whole week off. Hubby and I are experimenting with Amtrak sleeping car, and took the train from Salem to Sacramento. Stayed overnight in Sacramento, and now are grabbing an Amtrak bus to Tahoe. No gambling, just sight seeing, hiking, and relaxing. We are learning a lot about Amtrak, mostly good. We may try a longer trip over the summer.
Are we typical American seniors, or what? Lol
I hope all are well! Praying for those who are suffering and rejoicing with those who rejoicing.
Much love,

Lucy is keeping me sane, so I hope you all don't mind seeing her a lot here! Working in Visitor Center 3 time a week for 3 hours each time is still on my schedule. The head ranger, after 7 years, FINALLY got me my own logging for the reservation system. I was using his until today!

Up early to feed everyone this morning. They were up early to bring in all of the horses for tomorrow. Have a guy coming to trim all of the mares and studs feet. They do them in a tip table as they are not halter broke. He uses this big grinder and does about one a minute. We get them done twice a year- about 70 in total. The good saddle horses are done standing by my son- he trims them and shoes them if needed. The mares will also get pregnancy tested tomorrow as they go through to get their feet done. I don’t have enough experience testing mares so we hire another veterinarian to do it. They are much harder to do than cows. Our bank is bringing lunch out. They do that once a year to check out that we’re doing what we say we are doing 🙂 Nice that I don’t have to feed the crew that will be here.
Feeling a little tired this morning. Went on a long walk with a couple of the dogs yesterday. Of the 4, one (corgi X) doesn’t like going on walks and I couldn’t find the other (Heeler). We went 4 hilly miles. Got over 20,000 steps in yesterday 💥 At supper I was told they found a dead cow and calf. It looks like possibly due to wolves. Thanked them for telling me after I survived my walk 😬Carol- the thought of getting kicked in the face has always terrified me. Your dad sure was lucky not to lose any teeth. Hope your husband’s kidneys start to respond soon so you can get home 🩷
Rita- thanks for the tarantula info. Very interesting. I once looked up how porcupines find their significant other because you always see them solo. It said the male dances through the woods singing a mating song. I would love to come across that!
Glad Lucy is keeping you grounded. You have a lot of tough stuff going on 💙Michele- funny how anxiety affects animals. My daughter got bucked off a horse yesterday when he spooked at a rock 🤷🏻♀️
Lanette- both my kids live on the original home yard which is 2 miles away. We are each others closest neighbours. We are land locked prairie dwellers.
Annie- big hugs 🤗 What you are doing for your dad is amazing. You are a special person.
Take care everyone,
Melanie, Alberta

Heather - John's photos are beautiful. Yes, that second one would make a beautiful Christmas card.
Beth - so glad the needle tenderizer worked for you. I'd often use mine on round steak to make cube steaks since it did such a good job of breaking up tough fibers. Hope your household gets rid of the crud quickly.
Melanie - sounds like a lot going on at your place today, whew! Exciting, if the teleporter was fixed I'd zip up for a couple hours to watch.😁 Promise not to get in the way. That's scary about the dead cow and calf. Do you carry any - ahem - protection when you are out in on the prairie? Congrats on 20,000 steps by the way.
T is coming out in a d bit and we're heading to the feed store, lol. Looking for treats for the hens.
Have a great week everyone!

MFP Weekly Check-In 10-6-2025
Kylia in Ohio - Happy Fall! My scale shows a slight loss, about a half pound. I will take it as the scale hasn't moved in months! I l logged every day. I averaged 11,400 steps a day. 30-60 mins is intentional walking. I am proud that heading into Fall, I lost weight! this is when I usually add to my winter weight so I don't starve over winter-lol! Make the best choices you can in the moment! Take that taste (just a small bite) of that frog you want to change! You are AWESOME!
Rita in Roswell NM - Down 2 pounds from last week but overall staying about the same. I’m good with that!
Barbara on the Southern Oregon Coast –
Week ending: Oct 5 Sept 28
Avg WT 131.9 131.5
Avg steps 3892 3358
AF days 43%(!) 85%
Ps@2s habit solid . Thought it would get easier, but alas...
No knee and shoulder PT, BB&B/PT knee lifts, split squats, dynamic balance, dogs to powerline or chair yoga, foo. Half hour line dancing was all I could do. Baby steps..
Lanette in SW WA State - Weight staying in range. Logging most days. Average daily steps this past week: 7440, down from last week. Discontinuing early morning walks outside right now due to cold and/or wet, walking in house 15 minutes, carrying weights, instead. Still walking after meals, carrying weights. Still averaging SWSY 3X per week, tho I push it off a day if lower back hurts since I’ve learned I can exacerbate it.
