I counted. I have 72 books piled on top of the bookcases downstairs, then more in my bedroom. So yes I need more bookcases.

Hello, my dears, from the cool dampness of an October morning in the Arkansas River Valley,
Just rambling this morning, nothing earth-shaking:
It was raining when Corey got up, which it often does up here on the hill while remaining dry at the valley floor, down in the big bend of the river where he works. Means I don't have to water today (yay!) to keep things alive for a little longer.
The fig tree has had tons of small figs on it for weeks, with no growth, but apparently likes the current cool nights, warm days, as they're finally getting bigger. Hopefully they'll finish growing before the first frost. It's a weird little tree, and has never really known what season it is since we planted it six years ago.
Not to get all woo-woo on ya, but I don't think I've ever felt this connected to the place I live. I really love watching things grow and fade and come back again in the spring. Egg, as you can see in yesterday's picture, just feels connected to me.
Part of that disconnect for me was knowing, always, that I was going to move again. The longest I ever lived anywhere was ages 6 to 17 in East Texas. Spent eight years in Montana, but that was a whole husband and a century ago - and Corey and I will mark eight years here in this house next July. Such an interesting difference in how your life works when you don't expect to leave.
Got my tests back, and my iron's great, but my thyroid is still slightly off. This doctor is very conservative, so he may well keep me on the current dose and test again in a month or two. We'll see. Ordered my Skyrizi injection this morning, and that dose is two weeks away. This is, on past performance, when things get a little weird. We'll see how we do.
Talked to my son at length yesterday. He's still adjusting to single life, contemplating his next move, which may be to Dallas and may be to Michigan. He's determined to finish out his one-year lease, and is doing well in school, and he sounds good. We are the only connection between him and his sister, and I hate that, but they're grown folks, and need to decide on their own who's important to them.
His agoraphobia is getting better, he says, but he's not seeing anyone for it, as the VA where he is has waiting lists that are six to eight months long. I didn't respond. Anyone who has that kind of issue has to want to get better, and I'm not sure he does. The VA will give him a community care referral for a local doctor of his choice, but he prefers not to. So 🤷🏻♀️.
I scrapped the one large project I was doing, didn't like how that was going at all… and got the feathers painted over that I'd painted on the side of the fridge. Second coat still to come. I have this vision of an archeologist digging up this refrigerator someday and marveling at how many layers of paint are on it. When I told Corey I was getting rid of the painting that was on there and putting something else there, he said, "You really hate that refrigerator, don't you!"
He thinks I'm funny.
Well, so do I most of the time. Without a sense of humor, life really IS hard.
Hope you're having a lovely day, however it is that you accomplish it.

Mo, yep she turned 70 over the summer. I went down on Amtrak for her party. Then we had fun traveling back up to Whidbey Island via Everett, Gig Harbor, and took the Port Townsend ferry to my island. I think she is doing ok. She plans slot of distractions, seeing her grandkids play sports (twice this week). That is an hour drive there watch them play and an hour home. She's traveling to Las Vegas soon to meet up with our cousin. She was telling me she got tickets for a show "in the big sphere". They were $300 a piece! Crazy!
Since her cat has passed the bird colony has exploded she said. They know they can munch on bird seed in peace now and not be attacked. That cat was quite a hunter. Even caught a hummingbird once! Then of course all the mice, bunnies, snakes, did I mention he was a hunter? Sometimes it was wild kingdom at her homestead. So she probably doesn't miss having to clean up the carnage. She writes a lot in journals, every morning.
You give to so many Mo, please care for yourself too. "You can't pour from an empty cup".💖

I went to bed last night pondering a tee shirt I wanna make:
"It's not that I can't be a gym rat,
I would just rather be a treadmill gerbil"😁
It sounds about right. Lol! I am on day 3 of a solid plan of walking daily. This morning was particularly tough. I said " no" aloud to no-one in particular, to life maybe. But then my bladder said up now! Aack, ok, ok, I was up. It was 5:20 am. I rebel against being this "morning person".

Lisa,
Egg is the sweetest cat ever!
Youngest son will most likely be using the VA for treatment. Hopefully he can use the VA annex that opened up in the on base clinic here, and not have to travel the long trip to the main VA hospital in Seattle.

Good Morning,
I have been up since 4:55 am. Usually, I would go back to sleep, but my head was beginning to hurt. So, I performed my sinus wash, took my nasal medication, and took some Excedrin Migraine medicine. Now I feel better. I should lie down now, but the moment I do, puppy girl will be up. I noticed that puppy girl was having trouble jumping into the back seat yesterday. I could be that she is picky about the proximity of other cars around ours. She loves to go, go, go, so I may need to get her a step ladder for dogs to get in. I have the hardest time getting her out of the car when we are home, because she loves car rides. It is hard to believe that my tree out back is almost bare—no pretty leaves. Tracey, if you see any lovely leaves, please take a picture of them. Was that a bald eagle I saw in one of your pictures? I love the images you are taking, Tracey. You are capturing the beauty of Canada. I have never been, but it looks worth visiting. My pastors in Chicago are from Canada. Now they live in Newton, Kansas. Looks like you have great scrapbooking material from this trip. I hope you are enjoying your respite. Interested in hearing about your MIL.
I had to stop writing because Rose woke up and wanted to go out. Then breakfast followed, and while she was out, I went on a leaf hunt. Nothing pretty so far. :( I need to walk her on the trail and see if I see any other leaves. Perhaps if we find a pretty leaf, we can take pictures of the tree and/or the leaf to celebrate Fall. Tracey has started something with her photographs.
Chow for now.

Very, very, short night. Packing angst has kicked in. It usually improves once I actually start packing! I'm also suffering my usual post jabs mini flu. It only lasts half a day, but still ..… I am now feeling much better after a nap.
We have French Circle tonight, and I've rebelled against making early dinner. I've offered a wholegrain roll, with nice filling, and we can have more if we are hungry when we get back. I had a good, healthy, lunch. Strawberries for dessert when we get back. I'm just not feeling like cooking. Nor do I want to go out, but I know it's good for me.
Tomorrow we are meeting some old friends at The Regency for lunch. I feel singularly unenthusiastic about everything at the moment. My usual pre-holiday funk. It's at this stage that I decide I never want to go on any holiday, ever again. 🤣😜

Thanksgiving weekend is coming up in Canada. Not sure how many I will have for dinner on Sunday. My kids are close but their partners families are not so it's always a juggle as to who is going where. I get them all the time so I feel guilty expecting them here for holidays as well. I'm not a huge holiday person as I like to enjoy their company everyday, but it is a big deal for my husband. Planning on turkey, of course, with cabbage rolls and perogies (we are of Ukrainian descent), garlic knots, carrots, pumpkin pie and mini apple cheesecakes. Going to town for groceries after work to try and beat the shopping rush.
Everything went well with the horses yesterday. The babies were weaned and brought to a pen on our yard. Listened to them whinying for their moms all night. They have quieted down this morning. At least they have each other. There are 40 of them.
Rebecca- this is how I feel about my sister who is 4 hours away:
I have another but we are not as close. They are quite a bit older than me- by 7 and 9 years so it wasn't until we were adults that we really connected. Your relationship with your sister sounds very special. One question- what are zucchini tots?
Lisa- "Crafters Crack House"… Bahahaha 😆 my crack is Hoka running shoes. Currently have 5 pairs. I also feel the same about where I live. I came here immediately after vet school when I could fit everything I owned in my 1989 Dodge charger including my lab and a cat. I was so happy to unpack and just stay. Have never regretted it.
My sisters don't speak. They are extremely different people. When my mom passed things really unraveled with our family. She was the glue that kept us together, although there was always an underlying tension between them and their families. It is sad but I often think it might be for the best.
Debbie- lucky your mom never got pulled over! Good catch!
Mo- congrats on the job offer. I could not do what you do. It takes a special person. But as others have said on the thread- take care of yourself as well 💕
Take care all,
Melanie, Alberta

Yes my eldest sister and I are close, but it has been only since 2011 when she divorced from her husband. Before, there was a disconnect, and it would take her awhile in a phone conversation before she would relax and not sound so stilted. Her husband was mentally manipulative, and she wasn't able to be herself. Now, we video chat and cry at each other if we need to😋🙃! She married the best of guys in 2018, after living together since 2011/12. Then he retired, but sadly passed away in 2022 from abdominal surgery. In 2020 they had moved to his childhood home/farm in Oregon. So living in a home seeped in his memory is hard. She didn't get all the time she wanted with him. Her home was built in 1875 which is so cool. So her farm is part of a co-op farming community that grows grass seed, or meadow foam. She isn't in charge of the farm part, just the part that the home sits on. His kids manage the farm part. The last time I was down, the co-op planted sweet corn for the neighborhood farms to just come pick. It was great! I think I had 2 ears nightly. We'd drive down in her gator and pick a couple.💖
zucchini tots are like tater tots made with potatoes into a bite sized fried blob, but its a zucchini mixture.

Melanie … your Thanksgiving Dinner sounds great (especially the mini cheesecakes). My husband likes to keep the holiday traditions as well.
Mo … congratulations on the job offer. Can't imagine anyone better they could have chosen. Hoping those migraines cease and desist soon.
Heather … I've watched you stress-out over every trip you've shared with us … and you always have an incredibly good time. Keep on while you still can!
Annie … my older son read and collected books like you. I can't stand clutter and would try to give them away or at least pack them up. He wouldn't let. I just stacked more and more on his shelves. They bowed under the weight, but they also brought him comfort.
The crud … we are moving through all of its yuck. Nothing serious but definitely has periods of miserableness. Unable to visit my mom until I've been asymptomatic for 5 days. It's now been 10 days since I last saw her (didn't visit after son tested positive). Fortunately, a good friend is visiting her in my place and has her FaceTime with me. It seems to help my mom.
It is an incredibly beautiful fall day here! My husband and I took a drive around town just to take a good look at all of the colors. Kept our germs to ourselves. I am going to have to get some essential groceries soon. A grocery order pick-up probably makes the most sense.

Just a thought- for Christmas, maybe you can find a copy of your dad's favorite dictionary on ebay so he can enjoy it and not worry about it falling apart. Keep the old one in case he prefers that one.
Yes, prices on pattern's are crazy. I remember paying like .79 for patterns but then again, I started buying them WWAAAYYY back when I was in about 6th grade-started sewing in 4th grade.
I have a huge box of patterns- stuck in the far corner of my sewing room- one day I will get that room cleaned up so I can use it again. It is on my to-do listDh is at the other house- have a plumber out putting in a full house water shut off valve. A requirement for the new insurance company. The old company wanted so many things done before they would possible renew- not doing that (to the tune of $30,000 for new roof which is less than 10yrs old, new paint, again, less than 10 yrs old, plus a list of other things.). The new company just wants this valve and pictures of a few things that are already there(security system and smoke detectors, etc)
So, I get a second day to myself here at home. Got half my to-do list done yesterday- two big things left-they arent that hard, just procrastinating a lot. Once I get started it should take me half hour or so for each one. Will be great when they are done.Debbie

Melanie- my sisters do not get along either. I am the middle one of us three girls and I am in the middle communication wise with them. I am also the most level headed of the three of us. So much so that in the trust, I am executor and if something happens to me, it doesn't go to either sister, it goes to MY husband-that shocked us when we read it and that was the one written years ago when dad and mom had it written up. She has a new one and still the same
Yes, very thankful mom hasn't gotten pulled over. Lucky for her she lives in a very small town and rarely goes anywhere- in to town three times a week to the church and at most once a week to go get chicken feed

I've had long conversations with my daughter, my sister, my best friend, my very good friend, and my son since Sunday. I have such amazing people in my life, people who love me and say so. These phone calls make my heart feel so full. My cup truly runneth over… sitting here typing this with my kitty in my lap, in a craft room that is my happy place, in a house I can finally call home.
This week will stay with me.
Oh - and my doctor is raising my thyroid dose again, will test again in December.
I think I'll go find a cheese stick and eat a cracker or two.

Feeling a lot better this evening now the post-jab lurgy has lifted. John remarked how much faster I was walking to the bus than I used to. Even though my knee was sore, my mobility was OK.
French Circle was interesting, but not riveting. I just like hearing French spoken. I did chat, haltingly, with an acquaintance.
On the way there, the Uber driver was talking about his marriage and the difficulties they faced, being from different branches of the same religion. He is a Coptic Christian from Sudan. The shop I often frequent near me had owners from the same community and I heard their stories and knew them well, especially their daughter. Just a couple of weeks ago it changed hands. So sad. The driver, it turned out, was a regular customer and a neighbour of theirs, but didn't know they had sold the shop. He was shocked! Such a small world!
Came home and had strawberries and cream. Yum.
Love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx

Planning to do a Body Pump DVD tomorrow and then from 10-12 we’re supposed to go to this ceramics place to see if there is any bisque that we’d be interested in.
They started taking apart the enclosed porch. The other day the guy found out from his engineer that the wall between the porch and the deck is a load bearing wall. Then he ordered lumber from the Home Depot in Charlotte (since ours is so limited). So the guy from HD gets on a 16 wheeler, drives from Charlotte, then refuses to put it in the backyard, so he loads his truck onto the 16 wheeler to drive it back to charlotte. I bet when he gets there he gets some reaming out, our contractor told them that there aren’t muddy conditions. The “excuse” (to me it’s more of an excuse than a reason) is that even tho some customers give them permission to drive on their lawn, the people have sued because they ripped up the lawn. It’s grass, people! Grass grows back. Anyway, Lowe’s delivered it. At first the guy didn’t want to drive on the grass, same reason. But eventually he did and he put it on the side of the house. Plus...the planking we’d picked out had been discontinued. We did decide to get some other that was close. They should be delivered tomorrow.
Took Ganon on a walk yesterday and we really had sensory overload. First, a guy who had been cutting our grass asked me about the deck. He had his tractor running and while I was talking to him, a truck came by. Too much. Then we went around the block and got almost to the end, someone was having a tree cut down and the person across the street was having something built. He absolutely refused to go near the noise so we had to go back around the block to get home. Then, as we get home, they deliver the second dumpster. Well, the noise really freaked him out. So when things quieted down, I gave him his treat.
Went for a walk today (Wed). Now to get him used to me stopping to talk to people and not have him try to pull me away.
I used to bowl on Wed. night. I know it was frustrating for Vince because I’m no where near competitive. I know he was trying to help me, but if I got a gutter ball (which happens A LOT) he would always say something like “look where your arm is, across your body” or “stand here”. Well, last year he was on a team with this one guy and that guy thought he had another partner but it fell thru. I mentioned that if he couldn’t find anyone, Vince could bowl on a team with him and I’d drop out. Well, that’s what’s happening. You know, in a way I’m glad. I kind-of like having my Wed. evenings free.
Made oatmeal pumpkin cookies for C
Sue – even tho it’s just the two of us, how I wish I’d gotten the biggest freezer. Instead, I got the middle size
Annie – regarding the kitchen, well, Jess was just saying today that it stresses her out to have to come home and make dinner. She just isn’t the type of person who plans. See, I asked if she needed anything from the store since I was going. Vince needed to eat earlier since he was going bowling. So it looks like now I’ll cook on Tues, Wed, and Thurs since we have something each of those evenings (Tues ceramics, Wed. Vince’s bowling, Thurs ceramics). Now we’re going to discuss the weekend the day before. I’m going to suggest I do Sat. since sometimes she works on Sat. and she do Sun. But if they are doing something, not a problem, I can just take a leftover out of the freezer. Count me as one of those who are amazed at all you do for your dad
Lisa – been looking for the moon ,but it’s been so cloudy that you can’t see it.
Rita – love seeing pics of Lucy
Just saw this post on Facebook from Denise. PJ lost a tooth and guess how much he got for the tooth? I asked Vince to guess and he guessed $20. Nope, more. Then he guessed $50. Nope, more. He got –get this -- $100. To me, that’s a bit on the ridiculous side. But it’s their decision.
Deb – so glad the reunion went well
Mo – congrats on the job! Honestly, I don’t think I’d enjoy working at the ceramics studio. Wish the gal who was there before was still there. She was quite knowledgeable since she has her own ceramics business. She used to run classes too. I don’t know that much.
Pip – good luck at the dentist. Good idea to take headphones
A while ago I was diagnosed with bronchitis. I’ve been taking steroids and cough medicine. Just finished the cough medicine but ’m still coughing. Personally, I think the coughing is getting better. Jess and Vince don’t think so. I think that as I get older, it just takes longer to get better. But they don’t agree, they think I should go back to the MD. I want to wait a bit. Like I was on one medication, once I finished it Vince thought I should be all better. Then I find out that it needs to be in my system for 10 days, even tho I only had to take it for 5.

I saw my Mom today, she was back at the manor and in fine spirits.
She told me her husband doesn’t visit often but he never did like hospitals. The other day she asked me if I had talked to my Dad lately, I told her I hadn’t (he passed on 2012) she said, “well tell him o haven’t found anyone in here.” She told me before this that she heard my grandmother’s phone had been disconnected, when she asked about Dad she caught me off guard. My friend said, I think his phones been disconnected too. She agreed.Today she remembered that my FIL passed two years ago around my Dad’s birthday and recognized Jonah in a photo.
this is a picture of her and I looking at the album I made and shared a little bit ago. She was able to name everyone on the album.in the second picture she was telling me she was a good looking girl. 😂
my friends dog upset with me because I wouldn’t share my two-bite cupcake.
tomorrow I’m on the way back to Edmonton

Well, it is 1:00 am now, the dishwasher is going, and Rose is snoring and tooting. I took Excedrin migraine after breakfast yesterday and then napped till noon. I played Scrabble on my phone, then decided to pack up my Mikasa glasses. I labeled it and set it in the living room. Then I packed my high school pictures and my mom's pictures. My son didn't cooperate with me on his cap and gown pictures. So, the only one I have of him in it, he looks drunk (he is not a morning person). I found some photos when I cleaned out one side of the hutch, and I also packed up DH's ordination certificate. Then I put the items I am donating at the front door, ready to load them into my car. I am finally letting go of my larger clothes. After my nap, I had energy, so I had lunch and watched my shows while wrapping my glassware and packing. Then I worked out (I haven't done that in a while), and then I cooked baked fish, and put together a salad. I made a Diet Coke cake and portioned it into serving sizes, then placed them in the freezer. Dh was not happy that I packed his stuff up, but I did label the contents of the box. We talked about the books, and we will donate some to the hospital. Most of my day was headache-free. I loved it.
When I was telling you all about how we spent our summers as kids, I said I would be at the pool with my friend Cheryl. Well, I decided to look her up. I found her! She lives in Morro Bay, California. We talked for a while, and it turns out that she is a DJ on a radio station called Coast. She always loved music. She never got married or had kids. She is happy and has traveled to Australia and New Zealand. She says that she loves where she lives. The pictures are beautiful out there. Next, I will call my friend Zaida and catch up with her. That is how I am going to say hello to 60 this month. Baby Suko is currently in Hawaii. As for DH, he got hired by ADT, but it doesn't seem like the right fit. King Koil isn't ready to go on the position until January. So, another company is interested in him and interviewed him yesterday.
Pip, I have something I want to send you for your Yogi corner. Can you DM your address? I promise not to stalk you.😂 I suppose I should send you a friend request first.
Barbie, how is Annie doing? Has she stopped tearing pillows?
Melanie, that sounds like a wonderful and busy Thanksgiving. I remember being so exhausted on all of the holidays. I was the one to make it special. I had to wrap the gifts, buy them, and hide them. I remember one year when I hid in the van for a long time, because while I was getting the gifts, I saw a mean-looking dog. DH called me and asked where I was. I told him about the mean dog. He looked and said to me that it was a deer grazing, not a dog. We laughed so hard. Thanksgiving, I looked awful from cooking all night, and I was exhausted. We had to eat at MIL's, and the kids preferred my cooking, so we ate at home too. Julia's friends would also come to eat.
Tracey, it looks like the time you spent with your mom was priceless. I am so happy for you that you got to go on this trip.
Michelle, if you are still experiencing coughing, you should see your doctor again. Don't let Denise talk to my kids. They will feel cheated. I was mad at my friend for raising her boys to $10.00 a tooth. I gave my kids a $1.00 bill. Grandkids, will not get $100.00 from me. That is wild. I hope they put it away for a college fund and give the baby a $1.00. (Maybe I am cheap)🤷♀️
Lisa, I am so glad you got to talk to your Framily and kids. (Friends are the family you choose.)I hope all is well with your daughter dealing with her ex.
Rebecca, how does DS feel about leaving the Navy?
Well, I'd better go to bed since Rose is moaning at me. Talk tomorrow.

Hi ,
It has been a crazy week. Productive at home..…productive at work....still way behind on work. SMH.
I learned on Sunday that Lowes has a plant clearance rack! I got 8 large mums for $50! Yes, they needed some TLC, but look great in the beds. I trimmed up iris leaves along with the tip of my finger. Oops. Washed well, antibiotics ointment, and butterfly for a couple more days. DH freaked out. I didn't chop it off just a little trim-lol! All is good.
Last night stopped at while foods to drop off Amazon return. DH waited in truck as I would only be a minute. When I came back out he asked me where the Chips ahoy were. Obviously he has never been in Whole Foods. So last night while doing laundry, I baked him chocolate chip cookies. As I was folding the sheets and things, he said they could wait until tomorrow as I hadnt sat down since we got home. I let him know it would only take about 10 mins and be done. Did he help fold- nope. All done though. Got inside plants brought in yesterday morning, laundry done, sheets changed, cookies baked. It was a cereal night for dinner. His with milk. Mine tossed in yogurt.
I love you ladies!

Hey, kids,
Spent the last couple hours writing… one of my favorite things. Now there's painting to be done—waiting on a delivery of something I need for the creative-type painting, but in the meantime, there's the painting that needs doing in the back room.
Medical stuff:
Happy with myself for a change - not my usual mode, I will admit. But I pushed the doctor to check my thyroid a couple months back, and I was right, it was off. The change in dosage helped, but not completely, so it's going up again.
But I am feeling better - some physical things are still a struggle, but it's awfully hard to tell what's thyroid/iron/Crohn's/A-fib and what's just being 65 and winter is on its way in, you know? Might just be because that thyroid dosage they put me on didn't get me all the way to normal. We'll see after the new dosage begins.
I guess what I'm saying is - your health is worth fighting for. If you don't feel right, you know your body better than anyone else does. Get seen. Get ALL the tests. Do what you must to make sure your own health is being recognized as a priority. Because it is. And no one else is going to fight for you.
Your doctor is busy and will dismiss your "complaints" if you let them.
Don't let them.
Okay. Down off my soapbox. I got stuff to get done, baby!
Later, my dearlings,
Lisa in AR5
