Melanie - Writing about what you do might be a thought for a hobby that would make you money. Large animal vets (as you're called in the U.S.) are largely not publicized, and the popularity of Dr. Pol tells you people would find it interesting. I think the brutality you've already mentioned is part of what drove people away from it, and I think your much more humane outlook would go over very, very well. All of your posts are well-written; I think you should start writing a memoir. I am, however, quite prejudiced about it. You might alternatively think about putting it together in a Substack newsletter, too, as I've done.
Which reminds me - if you or anyone wants to read the other stuff I write, you can find all my recent writing at
Unlike here, I DO talk about both religion and politics, so fair warning - I don't pull a lot of punches, I follow through on them. I'm writing once or twice a week at the moment - but all my older stuff can be found at that link, and the newest feeds go in at the top of the page. For anyone else - my writing is not necessarily for everyone here, which is why I don't talk about it much here. I write whatever is tickling my brainpan on any given day, and it ranges widely. You may not want to get know me that well, honestly.

Melanie - Yeah!!!
My elder son rang me last night to say that his ten year partner Jo had proposed to him the night before and he had accepted! Plus he had got a salaried job! Plus they are having next week up in Glasgow where he was a student and they will be visiting his dad. So all good news! :-)
He has always found life difficult, but Jo is so good for him. I'm not sure the job will last long, but hey ho.
V pleased.
John had a National Health crown fitted this afternoon. Seems ok.

Sipping some really strong Gevalia coffee this morning, munching on my prunes, pondering life.
I had quite a mental rollercoaster ride these last couple of days. It all started with me posting a photo of my food diary for that day on my Zepbound support page. Its women all 60+ so its nice. It was a day with me having an Iced coffee protein drink, a substantial egg salad sandwich on Dave's Killer powerseed bread for lunch, and raw veggies with yogurt for dinner. In my book it was a good day. The feedback I got was:
What diet are you on?
Where is the real food?
I could never sustain eating like this! You need to be at 1400 calories at least!
I don't bother with logging, especially the non food things like vitamins. It puts you in a diet mindset.
You need to be eating more protein, more organic foods!
I took in all the responses (there were hundreds), and the next day I ate 1400 calories, bumped up my food intake and promptly gained a lb.
After seeing the gain I was just mad at myself for being swayed so, to change up my eating, because obviously these strangers know me better than I know myself. "Lesson learned Rebecca". I just need to have the self confidence to realize my choices are my own, and that is why this " program" is working for me. I say program because the only thing I am doing is giving myself an injection of Zepbound once a week. The rest is me, making better choices, buying better, and portioning my food better. The shot is just a tool to stop the excess it food noise, and to curb my appetite a bit.
So with all this food diary mumbo jumbo, I have been bouncing up and down on the scale too. (Not literally😂). Its been 209.4, 207.6, 208.4, 209.2, so like a bounce in my book. In the scheme of things there is a slow downward trend (gawd I hate that word), but geez, way to bounce around getting there! This week I was going to the gym, so my body probably was adjusting to that. Treadmills totals came to about 6 mikes this past week. I need to put a piece of yarn in a map and "travel".
So today I might plan 1/2 a mini pizza with tomatoes, an asparagus spear but up, some black olives and some Jimmy Deans sausage bits (like a T). Then good course shredded parmesan. No Kraft powder for me!
Dinner is a bowl of 1/2 an English cucumber, some cherry tomatoes, celery, and spinach, with a drizzle of dressing mixed with ACV and a tsp of spicy crunchy garlic oil. I might fix a couple Alaskan cod pieces that are pub battered. Its a processed thing that "Trident" brand makes. Maybe a yogurt.
I usually eat around 1200 calories, with my protein close to 100 grams. The trick is not to overeat in carbs. I do enjoy the figuring. There is a puzzle play mindset to it all that is fun. Plus I do feel like I have accomplished something by eating what I have logged. Accountability.👍🏼💖
Hopefully I will be able to chat with boys thus weekend.👍🏼💖

Can’t wait! 😊
Lucy was licking her lips! Resting after a walk! Looks like she’s talking to me! 😊
Hobbies: to make money- volunteering (pays my housing costs) To keep me in shape: walking and teaching Lucy! To be creative: knitting, crocheting, reading, coloring, hobby kits from Hobby Lobby.
Lucy has been keeping me sane that last few weeks. She makes me laugh and learns things very quickly. I don't know what I would be doing if it wasn't for her, you all, and looking up jokes for you! 😁
Thought for the day:
What did the janitor say when he jumped out of the closet?
"Supplies!"

Congratulations Heather to your sons engagement! Sounds like your eldest son is getting his life in order. I would imagine a sigh of relief for you. As moms, all we wish in our sons lives is to for them to have a good job that makes them reasonably happy, with pay that supports their lifestyle, and most importantly a mate that loves them as much as we do. That's it. Everything else is just gravy.💖

Worked then went to WalMart for a few things. Made an applesauce honey cake – wonder how it’ll turn out? The recipe didn’t call for any eggs or any type of rising powder (soda baking). So we shall see….
Tracey – your mom looks so lovely. Thank goodness you rescued your mom. What a terrible situation! You are a wonderful daughter
Mo – about the coughing: I do feel that I’m not coughing as much or as hard. So I think I’ll just give it time since. I think I’m going to have to break down and wear my vest to BK. Now that I don’t have to wash the lettuce, I wonder if I can wear something with long sleeves? Maybe I should wear the vest and a long-sleeved. If that gets wet, at least I can take it off and I’ll have the vest on. I do feel that I’m slowly getting better (only too slowly to me) You are not cheap regarding the tooth fairy. To me, $100 is outrageous. Even if Ganon wants to stay with us, I DO NOT want a dog. No way Lately Ganon has been like barking (but it’s not really a bark, more of a moan). I swear it’s more of a “I want to be with people” cry.
How I wish the US celebrated Thanksgiving as you Canadian guys do. Thanksgiving gets lost what with Christmas and all. Oh well….I think that’ll never happen
Lisa – when I had that whatever on my foot, I am so angry that the one doctor sold me a $450 orthotic when I knew that what I needed was a podiatrist. Saw one and it’s all better now.
Broke down and am having a cup of tea. The bright part is that it keeps me from wanting to boredom eat – I boredom drink.
Allie – oh no, back in the hospital. Hope it isn’t something serious
Melanie – I agree with Lisa, writing a book would be invaluable. Also for someone who may be thinking about going into large animals ,so that they know what they’re getting into so they can decide if it’s really something they want to do.
Heather so happy for your son
Off to take Ganon for a walk

Mo - would you send me (Michele LeGrand) a friend request on FB? I'd love to be friends but when I searched for your name, 4 people with that name came up and two of them didn't have a picture.
Thanks

30 years ago today. I can not believe it has been this long that I lost Lenny. He loved his name, Gerald Leonard Goodell. I was going to call him Jerry but he said he didn’t like that. I wasn’t going to call him Gerald so we settled on Lenny. Funny thing is when I met his mom and brother, they called him Jerry, lolol. Oh well. He was 34, I was 36. I still think about him and I know he would be happy for me and how my life has turned out. You taught me so much and I still play moments that we shared in my head. He would have loved kirby had they met. 2 important men in my life. I have been truly grateful and blessed .
his brother Jeff Goodell , great author.

Big hugs and well done getting her out of that situation!
A work colleague of mine was going through something similar.
You might need to look into Adult Guardianship and Trusteeship. And you could consider going to the police and telling them what's happened regarding the money theft.

A corner of our lounge room with my piano, and the "piano bench" and dollhouse we got from a tip shop a couple weeks ago.
Those windows, and a couple others, should look different in a month or so. We're getting double glazing!
The two little white bowls on the entertainment centre are the ones my husband and I made in the pottery class we took for my birthday earlier in the year.
The dusty little laptop is the source of our music. I get CDs from tip shops and OP shops for $1 or $2, rip them and put them onto an external hard drive which is connected to that laptop which is connected to the stereo. We've got hundreds of hours of music to choose from which I have organised into categories to make it easier to choose.

I am so glad you were sick in the surgeons office! I am so glad that they took it seriously. Being sick as frequently as you have been is not normal and not good.
If you haven't already, please go off the weightloss drugs. I can't imagine that they are helping at all and may even be contributing to your problems. Be sure to tell all your doctors about them.

Allie- You are where you need to be! It is time for your family to f@%&&^g step up to the plate! They can bring you what you need, take out your trash, and take care of Siri! Maybe they will realize how much you do for them! But I won't hold my breath.
Sorry but not sorry for the rant. I feel they haven't been there for you and don't realize how much healing you needed to get done.
Be a good patient! Hugs and prayers!

😱 My friend texted me yesterday morning that her foot was still bad, so no dancing. I was determined to not waste the time so I thought for a few minutes and remembered that I'd been trying to figure out a time to get my flu and covid shots. I loaded Annie into the car and headed for town. I decided to stop at the bank first and get some cash. The bank wasn't open yet (it was 8:55) so instead of going to the drive through, I parked the car and waited by the door. I had a pleasant chat with a woman who thought the bank opened at 8. The teller was quick and offered to get me a balance or an envelope which I declined so I asked her for a dog biscuit for Annie since we missed the drive through. She was happy to oblige. The pharmacy was happy to give me vaccines as a walk in without an appointment so my morning was well spent.
😱 I had a lot of trouble sleeping, in part because of effects of the vaccines and in part because I was keeping track of a baseball game that eventually went 15 innings until my team won. We got up early this morning in spite of limited sleep. It may be a day with a few naps. Fortunately, walking dogs is the only thing I have to do. Everything else is optional. It's raining enough to make yard work unpleasant.
❤️ Allie, glad you are safe in the hospital. This is a good time for your daughter to step up and help you by getting the things you need from home and taking care of Siri.

Many hugs, Allie - So pleased they're keeping you there; the surgery should have already been done instead of waiting. Ditto what Kylia said, now is when your family needs to step up and help instead of expecting you to help them.
I am just enjoying my Saturday morning… Corey's up and about already. He made the mistake of saying last night that the yellow original paint was showing through the two coats of paint I had already put on the walls… the equivalent of someone who says, "you missed a spot." I was clear that if any more paint was put on those walls, he'd be doing it and left it at that. Interested to see how that plays out today… 👀😂🤷🏻♀️
Egg is being very pushy this morning, which is nothing new. She was so determined to be sitting on my lap that she was yelling at me to let her in from outside the moment I turned on the kitchen light.
Please note - she has her own kitty door at the back of the house, but she was yelling at me from the carport.
Then she "talked to me" until I got my cup of coffee and sat down at the computer.
Getting pushed around by the the ten-pound tyrant this morning. There are worse fates.
Later,
Love,

it’s funny, yesterday was a memorable day and when scrolling through facebook I heard a song from Pearl Jam, “black”. Some songs just instantly bring you back when you first heard it. Lenny and I walked down to the lower Queen Anne movie theater in Seattle. We were waiting for the movie to come on and this song played. It’s a beautiful song you should hear it.
all of the sudden I was hearing songs that reminded me of him and that time. Funny how that works.

Melanie - I agree with Lisa, it would be neat to read about your career as lady vet on the prairie. All Creatures (mostly?) Great and Small in Alberta, lol. And I'm curious - how did you meet your DH and become a rancher? Several ladies here have self-published books on Amazon. I'd buy yours!😉
Barbie - Go Mariners! I didn't watch the ball game but kept track of it from time to time last night. Good job getting Annie that biscuit.
Pip (((HUGS))) - you have been loved by 2 very special guys. It's so neat that Kirby honors and respects the feelings you had for Lenny. I've driven by that movie theatre on Lower Queen Anne many times. Wonder if it's still there? You might hear more songs in the next couple days that remind you of him.😍
Allie - glad you are being watched closely. I had no idea the parathyroid glands were making you so ill and feeling bad (or maybe it was something else? You probably said and I sailed right on by.) Anyhow, hope the upcoming surgery helps a lot and you do well after the surgery.
Lisa - glad Egg is keeping you in line, lol.
Carol - so sorry to hear your DH is still in the hospital, it's been quite a while now. Hope you are able to schedule some time and activities for yourself. Are you expected to remain close by most of the time?
Lanette 😎
