Melanie - my grandmother used to make these Haystacks. Yum! Haven't thought about them in years. I know they'll be a hit. Congrats on the new bike and enjoy the swim.
Allie - thanks for the update and explanation about the parathyroid/calcium and lethargy/vomiting. Makes sense and so glad you are at Yale and you are in good hands. Love the photos of SMiles and Delia! Ooh, sounds like you get a glimpse of the "action" where they just moved you. π
Debbie - looks like your reunion was a success. Your cousin looks like a neat guy, glad you got to spend a little time with him.
Kim - I was thrilled to read you were back working in a garden. Are you able to drive much yet?
Rebecca - super nice photos of your grands. I can't believe how big they are getting. Seems like Eli should still be a little baby.
Heather - forgot to say that's wonderful news your son is engaged. His partner seems like such a nice person, very happy for them. How long until the cruise?
Margaret - Hope you can find an insurance plan that works for you. I just logged onto Medicare.gov to take a look at the options and prices (subject to change of course) and will visit my insurance broker to sign up for a high-deductible supplemental. Even with the labs and different health issues I had this year, I didn't have much out of pocket. I think I'll be able to save at least $100 per month. $1200 will pay for a lot of deductibles.
Yesterday was Computer Tech day again. Windows 11. Blast it. All of a sudden I couldn't log into Facebook on this Dell laptop. Don't miss that part, but I do use Messenger a lot. Luckily, Facebook/Messenger still works on my phone and tablet and the Chromebook of course. The Chromebook is kind of slow and doesn't have much storage, but does give me a keyboard to use when responding to someone on Messenger with something lengthy or attaching a photo.
I opened a brand new "Stealth" Facebook account on this laptop, and it works fine. Plus, it's totally "fresh." So far no garbage ads or political stuff coming through with things I'm supposed to be upset about. π In the old account, even if I block ads, some still pop up. I am just following neighborhood news and the weather on this new account. Refreshing! Wish I'd have thought of it sooner.π
Reminder tomorrow is Weekly Check-in for those participating.

Hey, kids,
Jumped WAY in the WABAC machine to bring you pics of the two spare bedrooms when we literally walked through the house, just before we bought it in July 2018, and today, plus a few extras below of their current decor/state.
I only took one snap of each room as we were doing the walkthrough, and that was from the door - and part of me now looks at the originals and wonders "What were we thinking?!" The floor in this room, we had to completely rip out and replace, it was so rotten. This is the spare bedroom at the northwest corner of the house. We have been using it for storage for five years, after replacing the floor completely. π All pictures were just taken with natural light. I love the light in this house, and even more so now that the walls aren't blue and/or yellow.
This next room is the one we finished yesterday, and is at the southeast corner of the house. There were four of the metal rolling racks you can see in the corner, and by using both closets well, and all the underbed storage, I was able to empty two of them completely. There is one in the closet of the now-exercise room, where we put all extra paper goods, garbage bags, paper towels, toilet tissue, etc., plus the one you can see that holds all kinds of miscellaneous things we didn't feel like we could donate or trash. The old parquet floor is real wood, and very solid, so it worked well for a home gym, just had to be cleaned. A lot. Like a lotalot.
A few extra views of the two rooms now:
I have an arched bookshelf that will go in that small alcove you can see between the gallery wall and the window. The alcove was created when we pushed the half bath wall out far enough to actually sit on the toilet without putting your knees through the tile wall. Below right is the bathroom, once Corey completed building and finishing the wall in March - there wasn't enough room for us both to work in there, so I couldn't help much!
And this, finally, is the hallway that leads to both bedrooms and the bathroom. I cannot find an original picture of it - but it was the same parquet floor as in the exercise room. We covered it with vinyl plank, which does no damage to the floor, it just floats over it.
Of course these rooms had been cleaned within an inch of their lives after we moved in, and as I said, the northwest bedroom floor had been replaced, so we could use it for storage.
But building the new wall on the bathroom and all the rest of the painting, etc., has been done between March and today.
I am pleased to say that the back third of the house is now completely renovated, usable, and ready for guests.
Seven years later.
The only true renovation that still needs doing is the kitchen, and I just really do not want to think about that for six months to a year. It works fine, it just needs new countertops and floor.
Maybe in 2027.
Maybe.
Sorry for the flood of pics - just wanted to see for myself what all the hard work has been for. Really proud of us and what we've accomplished. Also glad to take a break from it for awhile.
Later, my dears,
Love, Lisa16 -

love the pics! Great job!
We are going to be doing some upgrades too. Going to recarpet the stairs and upstairs bedrooms. Going to paint one wall I the master bedroom. We were going back and forth with doing the stairs with hardwood and bedrooms in carpet. Itβs about a 2 thousand dollar difference so if we did all carpet then we could get the higher quality carpet instead of the medium range. pics will come later
131913196 -
Pip - Thanks! The original floors in our house were either hardwood/parquet wood or stone tile - other than that one bedroom we had to re-floor completely. On the stairs vs. carpet decision, honestly, I've fallen down stairs that were covered with carpet and ones that were covered with hardwood too (π), so I have no opinion. We only have carpets in the bedrooms, and our few stairs are outside and either stone or concrete, with non-slip paint.

sad news from our neck of the woods.. a Paulding County Elementary School student (autistic, runner) slipped away from the class while on a field trip to a local pumpkin patch/farm. They found her in a nearby pool unresponsive. She was in my daughterβs kindergarten class last year. My daughter is, of course, heartbroken. It happened Thursday, I think. They did not release the name until today. Sarah had two autistic girls who were transferred from her school to that one. She was so afraid it was one of hers, and unfortunately, that proved to be the case. I feel for everyone involved - the parents and her family, the teacher, the kids in the class who had to witness this, the farm owners, everyone. Itβs just awful.
Iβm just sad today. So much tragedy, hurt, pain, sickness. So many of you need hugs.On a more positive note, i worked out all 5 weekdays last week and plan to do so again this week. It does help with the stress.

Dear ones, Iβve been reading along but not saving for comments, sorry. Tumble is doing fine, eating, drinking, peeing, pooping, jumping, barking, chasing Mooch, she is back IN CHARGE.
Arthritic knee pain complicated by sciatica/piriformis syndrome whatever continues to limit my activity. No chair yoga, no dog group, few short strolls, barely an hour of line dancing. Result? Low spirits and continued discomfort. D persuaded me yesterday that this has gone on too long, so will ask MD to refer for PT when discussing results of breast ultrasound next week.
Carol you and your DH have been on my heart and in my prayers.
Allie thankful youβre in hospital. Pray your doctors are communicating with each other and coordinating your care. What Kylia, Kim and others said about your family taking care of things for you for a change. ;}
Rita youβve been on my heart too. Prayers and hugs.
Barbie would you consider teaching line dancing at the community center where you go for balance and fall prevention class? You lost me at ββ¦ I like to vacuumβ¦β ;}
Carla your cards are gorgeous, but please, no, I have enough stuff!!! ;)
Pip ((hugs)).
Tracey Bravissima for getting your MIL out of that situation. Youβll have to face many battles to get her free permanently. Trust Rodger will step up and support you, know your daughters will. ((hugs))
Rebecca there is a big difference between the way we share food/health information/caring comments here β¦ and the nasty tone of those food police. Spare yourself, stop sharing with those unworthies, Beautiful snow bird, your sister has the gift.
Melanie Iβd read your book for sure! Congrats on the 32 years last month. Hooray for the helmet! ;}
Flea brava for doing whatβs best for your body, despite salty DHβs teasing. Heβs just lucky youβre cooking your familyβs meals according to their preference. If it were me, when he got sarcastic Iβd tell him βKeep it up buster and youβll be eating this way tooβ¦ β ;} When Joe suggested we get livestock for meat, I told him, βNope! I was a veg for 7 years and can live on peanut butter and tofu just fine.β Nowadays he eats more vegetables than I do ;)
Lanette wish that transporter was working. Weβd all show up at Allieβs bedside to advocate for her.
Kim so happy to hear youβre back in the garden.
Debbie great reunion pics. BTW you look SOO much younger than your cousin ;)
Heather would restringing that favorite glass necklace be a good project for the grands?
Ditto about the Metis, Iβm so abysmally ignorant of Canadaβs first nations.
Margaret sorry to hear about your part B supplemental. Youβre right. Sooner is better. Thank you for the βnever stop believingβ¦β meme.
Lisa, beautiful, very well done! ββ¦ knees through the wallβ¦β LOL! I had a bathroom once where I could only sit on the toilet by stepping into the showerβ¦ ;}
Mo hope youβre feeling better. Many mixed emotions about your impending move. Will you be able to move your mom to somewhere nearby?
Autumn color, like at Debbieβs we donβt get much. A few big leaf maples turn bright yellow but mostly evergreen is the word. The only brilliant scarlets and reds are in the poison oak [shudder]. Long ago, I heard of a woman who picked some because the leaves were so pretty. Her neighbor saw them in a vase on the mantle and threw them into the fireplace ! Big mistake the smoke carried the toxin and they both ended up in hospital. Ugh.
Hundred dollar tooth fairy? Thatβs not inflation, thatβs ridiculous. Setting such extreme expectations is damaging to kids. Yep I got a dime. I could see a buck, or maybe even a fiver today but not a hundred.
There were other comments I intended, but poof!
Later, lighter, lovelies!

Thanks for your words of encouragement ladies! Yes, only I know my story, and strangers giving me advice is just a fast track to woesville! I learned a valuable lesson regarding all that!
Today was a nice bowl of ramen with bok choy, a white mushroom, some mung bean sprouts, rotisserie chicken shredded, homemade chicken stock, crunchy garlic oil, and a bit of half & half. It was glorious! I had some iced protein coffee, and some yogurt. Not a high calorie day but a nice day.
Love this! Used about 1/2 tsp. A small amount goes a long way.

Did Biggest Loser 6 Week Cardio Crush DVD then Firm & Flex Yoga DVD then took Ganon for a walk
Lisa β while ago I put this primer on some of the outdoor wood. Hey, it was white! Thatβs what I cared about. I think Vince thought Iβd paint over it. Not going to happen. Same here...if he wants it painted, he can paint it. Of course, that isnβt happening. When we got the cats, he made a βdoorβ to one of the bedrooms. This involved drilling a hole for the hinge and another hole for the latch. Here we are, 1-1/2 years later, he said he was going to fix it, but guess who did? Otherwise, I doubt it would have gotten done
Carol β Iβm so sorry to hear dh is still in the hospital. Heβs been there quite a while, hope you are taking care of yourself, too
Flea β no matter how many times I hear βa calorie is a calorie, it doesnβt matter when you have itβ. I know for me, if I eat at night, I can be guaranteed of a weight gain, no matter how low my calories are. Youβre right, weβre all different.
Rita β youβre going to have to tell us more about this βmandatory rehabβ. I always thought rehab didnβt work unless the person WANTED it to help.
Kim β that is so wonderful of you to donate the food! Surprisingly, we havenβt gotten a ton of zucchini like we have in the past. Not that thatβs a bad thingβ¦.lol re: Tooth Fairy. I donβt think Denise is going to have any more children. Sheβs just too overwhelmed with PJ. Pete is away (I think itβs now) 10days at a time so for 10 days in a row sheβs a single mom, working. My kids used to comment on the fact that I didnβt put a lot of candy in their Easter baskets but small cartons of juice, small bags of chips, fruit. Oh well...even tho daddy worked for a candy company, they really didnβt need candy. They did love to go to his work, tho
Rebecca β your sisterβs picture looks like it belongs on a Christmas card (hint Carla)
Allie β stop making excuses for others. Where thereβs a will thereβs a way.
Margaret β fantastic outcome changing your diet
J & C asked us to go to this pumpkin patch today. It was very nice. Not hot, cloudy and breezy. Got to walk the corn maze. Bought 2 pumpkins that J & C say theyβll carve. Came home and took Ganon for another short walk
Lisa β you have done an absolutely fantastic job on the house. Looks professional
EVENTUALLY I would like to replace all our carpets with hardwood. Like I said, EVENTUALLY
katie β how very sad, makes me want to cry, and I think I will. Yea for working out

Peaceful....maybe our day bring us moments in which to feel the peace.

Yesterday was a little rocky with DH. I walked, hot tub, 1.5hrs work paperwork, vacuumed, watered all plants, emptied dishwasher, fed cats, made bed, did cpap cleaning, filled tapes, got dressed for day. He did his 10 mins backward walk and calf stretch. I ask which car show we are going to ( I knew we were going to one). He was still deciding-tick tock the clock was ticking. Then he says the windows needed cleaned inside before we go. So yes, I do that. He is whining that I was too slow getting ready so are now going to be late. We weren't. Oh, and I didn't check to see if needed vacuumed since I didn't bring it. How was he suppose to think if everything-π€π«€π‘ It was a beautiful day for a car show. I had a good time.it was a pink ribbon event so a good cause. Got home in time to watch DGS (youngest) get his senior pics taken at our place. Then I did more work paperwork until bed. Again, DH had to make some comment about my videos playing while working since I have the radio turned off in parts counter area. The only sound at home was the videos. At work it is radio, phones, machines running, credit card machine beeping, and people talking. Just typing that sent my HR up! Anyways- sorry- he is a good guy, just was a PIA yesterday. Hoping today is better.
Massage and grocery after work tonight.
Much love to all!
Thankful for all of you!

Morning, my dears,
Still dark here, with sunrise more than an hour away as we move toward winter. Slept well, after all the hard work the last few days, and pleased to get back to my ordinary Monday morning chores that I've been fitting in and around the rest of the things. Last reno bits:
There are bits and bobs left to go. I got the little midcentury modern nightstands put together yesterday morning, but didn't have the energy left to deal with putting the flatpack bookshelf together. I'll try to get that done this week, if not today.
Corey also set up the carpet so I can do what's necessary to use the router to carve out the hinge insets for the bedroom door as well as shorten it a couple inches so it will both fit and clear the carpet at the bottom. While I've got the tools out, I'll make another stab at cutting a few thresholds for the doors at the back. Maybe today, maybe tomorrow, just according to my energy levels.
Due to the changes in the floor levels, they'll probably need a little router work too. Plus I've got two full door hardware sets to replace in that final bedroom, the closet and the bedroom door. Made more sense to just paint them as they stand and not worry about whether paint got on the old hardware, then substitute one thing at a time. #RenovationHacks.
While I'm carving wood, I also want to build a blanket ladder for the living room. We always need blankets available in the winter, as we keep the heat fairly low, and just use blankets or sweaters to stay warm. So, in other words, I'm just playing now.
And⦠that's about it for plans for the week. I have a follow up next week with the orthopod for my shoulder (and PT did wonders for that rotator cuff thing), and then nothing medical until the end of November!
Allie, Rita, Kay, everyone who's hurting, whether physically, mentally or emotionally, thinking about you.
Machka - you sound like you're feeling better. That must have been one heck of a sickness if it kept you down that long.
Rebecca - You looked lovely before you lost the weight, but you look lovely AND happy about the weight loss in that picture. I'm glad you're doing well with this, and most of all, making the shots work for your life instead of the other way around. You know your body better than anyone.
Heather - You're very welcome to come stay - and yep, the light in that bathroom is brutal. But that is largely Corey's space; I almost always use the main bathroom, other than in a pinch, and the light in it is bright, but not as harsh!
I want to make a quilt that I would like (would be the first one I made for my own taste!) for that back bedroom and curtains that match. The ones that are up are the ones I had from when we first moved in, and will do for now. And I woke up thinking about moving furniture around in the living room! My brain never stops, even when my body says it's done for nowβ¦ π€·π»ββοΈππ

you sound like you're feeling better. That must have been one heck of a sickness if it kept you down that long.?? 2 weeks at the beginning of September. I've been back to work and doing stuff for a month now.
The weather has been so bad over the past 6 weeks we haven't been able to do stuff outside and it has been getting to me. I want to work in the garden. I want to go cycling. There have been days where I haven't even dared to go for a walk in case a tree came down on me. 2 people were killed that way last Friday - trees here have this nasty habit of toppling in the wind.
And it has been so cold because the wind is coming right from Antarctica. It makes my arthritis hurt.
This past weekend, the weather was horrible so I spent the weekend dividing my time between working on work stuff and reading my books.
But today was not too bad. The wind calmed to about 30 km/h and the sun came out. The high today reached 15C (with a "feels like" temp of 10C).
And my husband and I had a lesson with a golf pro today at lunch! We did all right. The last time I actually played golf was in the mid-90s and I wasn't very good. I found it frustrating because I had friends who would tell me what I needed to do and all the instructions were confusing and conflicting. This time, the golf pro gave basic instructions and I was able to carry them out!
Plus it was nice to be out in the sun for a change, even though we were bundled right up.
I'll be sore tomorrow! But that's OK. We've got a golf course within walking distance and we're thinking of going now and then.
And because there was hardly any wind (only about 30km/h), I went for a walk in the evening for the first time in a while. It was nice having a decent weather day.
Apparently the wind comes back tomorrow.

DrKatie, I am so very sorry for your daughter and everyone. We've had that happen here too. Such a sad turn.
Lisa, your remodel is amazing! I'm so jealous. Wanna come work on my house? So old. hehehe...
Completely understand Barbara! That's why I don't sign my cards. So you can pass the LOVE onto others. It's something I learned from my upline. I even include a little poem that explains. All you need to do is grab another envelope and pass it forward.
SO PROUD OF YOU Rebecca!!!
That's right!
Happy Thanksgiving Canada!Love and Blessings
Carla, in MN5 -
π Happy Thanksgiving. I am thankful for unknown blessings already on their way. I saw that on a sign on my way to work one day when my life was in tremendous crisis more than 20 years ago and it has stuck with me.π
π Barbara, I have no interest in teaching another line dance class. I want to dance and not be bothered with the teaching part of it. I loved all the years of teaching and I'm glad I did it, I could probably teach again at the facility I used before. Now there are line dance classes at the Senior Center on the same day I used to teach so there is dance for anyone who wants to dance.
π Our location which is a mixture of Canada and the US PNW, has a nice mixture of evergreen and maples for pretty colors in the fall and green all winter. I love where I live.
π There are sunny dry days forecast for this week so I'll be able to get out and plant the iris that I dug up in August. It will be cold but I have all the right clothes.
π The cozy mystery book I'm reading is set in a small town and includes a Maine Coon cat named Diesel. The ebook I'm reading in bed is a cozy mystery set in a small town and includes a large cat named Butterball. It has made me lonely for a cat. Fortunately sanity prevails as I realize that having a cat would require more diligence than I have about keeping doors closed to keep a cat from getting out.
π Life has many chapters and this one doesn't include a cat, a husband, travel, or teaching dance. I believe that you can do it all but you can't do it all at once.
π Maybe on a sunny afternoon this week I can lock Annie outside and run the vacuum. I don't like to vacuum but it's been a month.

V short night. Awake from 2.40. I'm looking forward to a nap once the cleaner has finished cleaning in there.
I've packed my evening wear and shoes. Not a lot of room left in that suitcase for John's bits. Oops! I've overdone it on the shoes, I know! Almost everything else is on my bed, ready to go into another suitcase. I will bring it down when the cleaner has finished.
I had a bath this morning and did my nails.
Tomorrow we have said that we are going to pick Bea up, but not stay late. I think it will be takeaway pizza for dinner.

Kay - so sorry to hear of that child's drowning. Tragedy like that impacts the whole community. Praying for comfort for all impacted by this loss.
Lisa - so glad you posted those "before" and "after" pictures. You and Corey have sure made your house into a wonderful living space. Great job you two - not only for the final result, but the fact that you worked together as a team and got so much accomplished without coming to blows, lol. Maturity helps, right?
Beth - did you ever get a resolution on the mattress situation?
Barbie - "you can do it all, but you can't do it all at once" is a perfect recipe for sanity. I'll be glad to have a couple days of sunshine. My huge Sunset maple is starting to shed leaves. I'll get a photo posted. I share your feelings about getting a cat, but I sure miss not having a lap-cat. Rosie is not a lap dog and she thinks her job is to make me throw toys and look out the window to warn me that some robber disguised as the mailman or the UPS delivery is coming to probably cause mayhem.
Rebecca - cute sweatshirt and you are looking great. πLove love love your hair, so becoming.
Kylia - you have superhuman energy, woman. Are you done mowing that big front yard?
Carla - your travel plans after you retire sound like a lot of fun.
Mo - have you told your current employer about your new job? I'm sure they'll be very sorry to see you leave.
Barbara - I can't remember - have you had a recent X-Ray of your lower back? The reason I ask is that before Dr. Lisa ordered one for me this summer, nothing seemed to reduce the pain. Depressing. I couldn't do S2S, the PT didn't seem to help as much as I hoped it would. Once we got the diagnosis of the facet joint arthritis and a month on the Cele coxib, it's been more manageable. (And recent labs show kidneys just fine, in fact, a tiny bit improved.) Somehow just knowing has helped. Glad to hear Tumble is getting back to her former self and keeping Mooch in line. π
Rosemarie - are you back from your cruise?
Melanie and Tracey and Evie - Happy Thanksgiving! Seeing Melanie's haystacks had me looking at recipes yesterday, lol. My mom had a great chicken casserole recipe using crunchy chow mien noodles. Diced chicken, cream of mushroom and cream of chicken soup, and a big container of those noodles. I'm sure carbs were through the roof = extra yummy.
It's near 35F outside (close to 0C) and my deck is a sheet of ice. π€¨ Glad I stapled down those little cheap mats I got at Dollar Tree a few years ago, they give great traction unless there's freezing rain and everything has a coat of ice. I tacked down a few more last week to widen my track.
Make it a fantastic week.π

Tried to nap and couldn't. πΆ I did get John's presents wrapped while he was out getting his hair cut, and painted him a v quick card. I will give him the card and his favourite chocolates on the ship, on the actual day, and the other two small presents tomorrow. Then I decided to toddle round the corner to get some asparagus for tonight, more to stretch my legs than anything. The cleaner is just finishing up, and John is packing. I'm still in panic mode. I have no idea why I do this to myself. π³
Oh well. Sigh.

So sweet of you to sayπ. I am finally getting into this groove of things, eating, planning. I will say that on this low dose of 2.5 (Zepbound doses are 2.5, 5, 7.5, 10, 12.5, 15) I do have to realize that my food noise, and appetite comes a knocking about 2 days before my next weekly dose. I have decided to embrace that, in fixing foods a bit more complex because I do like cooking. Its just that now, unlike when I was an intermittent faster and cooking up a STORM, I will be logging and paying attention to portions more. I like that I have an appetite, that food does still taste good.
Slowly getting comfortable in this smaller body. Like walking back from the bathroom in the middle of the night, and noticing my breasts are not as heavy as they once were! Walking up our steep stairs is nothing now. I am noticing my shoulders. Just part of recognizing change and appreciating it. I have 8 lbs until Onederland!

So sorry your DH was a pain. You are not a mind reader, and sometimes we need to say to our mates, "just go do you, and let me be me". Glad you had a nice time at the car show. With that being kind of both your hobbies, it show feel like a shared experience. Sometimes I get the feeling that its a lot of work you're doing, and prepping and its is more work than fun. But once you get there, then you seem to appreciate the hobby though.π. Big hugs!
