Tina, sometimes my brain goes to having you go give my son a hug at his barracks next to Balboa hospital, but that's just me, and son would be way to awkward to accept one even though you could say, "I know you mother, this is from her"! Lol, young adults these days are more guarded than I am.๐๐๐

Choir was fun! We sang 'Crazy little thing called love' . I also went to a lecture by a person who builds faces on bones for the police and archaeology. V interesting.
Went to the Asian restaurant tonight. As before, we were a little underwhelmed. Not zingy enough. Bland. Nice wine though.
Tonight's show is an Annie Lennox tribute singer.
I'm in my green velvet dress with silver boots and sparkly socks.
I had a long nap this afternoon, so don't feel especially tired. I love being able to eat all the healthy low carb food without the bother of preparing it. Sooooo many veggies, especially beetroot!

I was able to talk to sonโs clinician today about what needs to be done to have my son in mandatory rehab. They have to wait until he says or threatens suicide or hurting someone, otherwise it is a voluntary program. Not much we can do right now. But at least he is getting help at the moment.
Bought some cute Thanksgiving earrings at Target today. Canโt wait to wear them now. I got some cute Halloween ones there a couple of weeks ago that Iโve been wearing this month. Something small to mark the holiday. There is a pair of pumpkins, witch hats, and bats for Halloween. Wearing the pumpkin ones today.
A couple of smiles for you all:

I also hope he doesnโt have to have surgery. But if you come visit, letโs hope itโs for a fun reason. This isnโt such a bad place to be a tourist.

It might be awkward for both of us and risky for me if he doesnโt know Iโm coming. :)

Oh yes! Our last duty station was Imperial Beach, our apartment complex with located at the far corner, next to the estuary! We loved it! If I stood on the toilet in the upstairs bathroom I could spy the waves crashing. (not that I did that๐).

Ginny - Yes I see it many times in the home too.
So sad.Barbie - I like all the seasons too, but would prefer Winter be a bit shorter and Fall longer.
Beth - Iโm looking into that too. Although all of the loans are payday loans and no Sociql Insurance Number is required.
Melanie - Itโs sad that this is common in a lot of familyโs when you get talking about it.
Heather - it sounds like a lovely day!!
Busy day at work.I weighed 190.4 this morning, Iโve lost 12 lbs since March i havenโt really done a whole lot to change anything, except I started HRT and all of the cravings and obsession to eat all evening has really gone away at least 90% of the time.
No more surprises today, but did get a couple of things completed for Mom. Need to make a couple more calls in the morning.
Amazingly, the grandson that lives there is thinking of going to work on the boats, the granddaughter complained about how she doesnโt have money for this and that and the daughter didnโt speak at all today.Lauryn and the Grands came and stayed with her today, they must have made close to 100 cinnamon buns. My weight loss is going to be hard to maintain at this rate. She also did two loads of laundry, she doesnโt know how to rest. Mostly her own laundry, but also what was in the hamper in the bathroom. Iโll have to be careful where I put my clothes that may shrink.
Kaitlyn is coming for a visit tomorrow evening and Jonah is here again to spend the day with her.

๐ I got my new book "We'll Prescribe You Another Cat", mailed a book to another paperback swap member, and did yard work that included using the leaf blower to clean off the driveway, patio, and sidewalks. I had to put Annie in the house because she tried to bite the leaf blower. I was glad I did that yesterday because today started with drizzle and I needed dry surfaces for the leaf blower to work.

Today was a work day - the morning went as planned but the afternoon was all over the place. I didn't get nearly as much done as I wanted.
This week, we've done "musical chairs" at work again and most of us have moved desks so I've been getting used to my new spot. Plus I was finally given the go-ahead to install Windows 11 last night. I've wanted it for a long time because I've had it at home for well over a year now. The installation went well, but there were a few settings I had to adjust โฆ which I discovered were wonky during a Teams meeting I was invited to about 45 minutes beforehand. ๐ Aside from that, I am glad I've got Windows 11 finally.
At lunch, I went to a free Chamber Music Showcase put on by music students at the local University Arts department. It was good. They're still learning so not perfect but I thought it was a good effort.
Tonight, my husband and I went out to Zambreros for dinner then on to the Playhouse Theatre for The Murder of Roger Ackroyd. That was great!

Morning, kidsโฆ we're supposed to be getting rain today as well, Barbie. Supposed to see our first night dropping down in the 40s (5 to 10 c) this coming week, as well. The first frost is typically the first week of November here.
Had to read on how to overwinter the dahlias, which I should be able to do in the ground, just put a bunch of mulch in the bed once the first frost has come and gone. We should be temperate enough that they'll be OK.
Insomnia hit hard last night, due to an involuntary nap at about 4 yesterday. But, there's nothing pressing today except laundry, so another nap could be in my future. The way to straighten out the sleeping issues that follow on an afternoon nap isโฆ another nap. Welcome to old age, whee!
Anyway, while I was not sleeping, I got a bit of writing done, and the picture also shows what I decided to do for the lampshades.
I'll be ordering some gold/copper fairy lights to put in there - I can get some very inexpensive ones that will look more like fireflies.
I'm still deciding whether or not to add clay at the seams, or simply leave it plain. I'm very pleased with it, considering it just took a teaspoon of glue and some fairy lights.
Corey's already called for his good morning call, and the second load of laundry is already in the washer. Might as well be productive if you're not going to sleep anyway!
I think I will eat some breakfast this morning. The other hazard of insomnia - I end up starving mid-morning.
Welp, the dryer just buzzed at me. Time to get things swapped over.
Later, y'all,
Love,
Lisa in AR

John's birthday morning started well with delivery of champagne and chocolates. They also tied a towel into a funny sheep shape!
We loved our painting session, using inks to outline our wash. I went on to line dancing and used my knee brace for the first time. It really helped. Yesterday it was very sore after Achey Breaky Heart. You have to stand on one leg the whole time. My bad leg. I was wondering if I would have to give it up, but the brace made it possible. Pleased.
Singing later, before getting ready for Captain's Reception and Formal Evening. Getting out all my sparkles!
The sea is absolutely flat today. Perfect. Warming up, as we are opposite Portugal.

Off the hook for the horse sale. My son is going instead. It is always a long boring day and people only want to talk horses. I am not crazy about them and donโt care to hear about how they are bred or what their strengths are. I just get bored to death sitting there. The last sale my husband went to started at noon and ended after midnight ๐ซฉ
We are planning on vaccinating our calves on Monday then getting them sold. We made a YouTube video to send to buyers so we can get their bids. We would rather sell direct than go through an auction market. Imagine the auction market being like kindergarten. A bunch of kids carrying every virus and bacteria under the sun. We like them to arrive healthy so buyers know our calves are healthy. When the kids were little I used to say that I wished we had a dip at the end of our driveway that they could rinse off in after they got off of the bus, so as to kills any pathogens they had picked up at school ๐ซฃ
Hoping to get the calves sold quickly as we lost 2 last week. One to we are pretty sure was wolves. A cow was killed as well. And the other got cast against a bear bait station my son in law had set up. They get on their side or back and canโt get up. Their stomach then bloats pretty quickly and they die. We figured thatโs already a $10,000 loss โน๏ธ
We will be attending the birthday party for the 90 year old twins on Saturday. My issue is- what to bring? One is quite healthy and likes sweets so thinking some nice chocolates. The other is quite ill and on a feeding tube so thinking a bright bouquet of flowers.
Tina- I have had a few bouts of plantar fasciitis when I was a runner. I used a sock at night that pulled my toes toward my leg, which stretched the heel. Not the most comfortable but it helped. I then went to a super cushioned shoe- Hoka brand and never had an issue since except once when I switched brands. I am now a Hoka hoarder. Think I have 5 pairs at the moment. Hope the cortisone shots help. It is such a painful condition.
Tracey- 12 poundsโฆ awesome ๐คฉ Sounds like your mom is settling in.
Lisa- I donโt have the insomnia you suffer from but some of my nights can get pretty rough. Waking up this morning the covers looked like I was in a brawl last night. And crazy dreams that I actually remembered which are still lingering with me this morning. Gone are the days when I would wake up in the morning not remembering when it was I had fallen asleep ๐
Heather- glad the brace is helping so you were able to get back to line dancing. Your trip sounds so fun. I was looking into an Alaskan cruise last year but couldnโt find a time that worked. Maybe next summer.
Take care of yourselves ๐

Melanie - I popped by the thrift store yesterday while I was in town, as I had a whole trunkful of stuff to donate, and as I was walking past the men's shoes, I happened to look down at the shoes the man standing there was wearing. They were Hokas. so he was wearing $150 to $200 shoes to find a pair for $6.99 to $7.99 USD. Lots of possible reasons, but I thought it was funny.

OOh Allie, great everything went well! You will be so relieved to be home and rest up in your own bed! Do you have drains in still, or have they removed them? Hospitals are not to rest in, and know most doctors just want you out of there as quickly and safely as possible.
Gentle hugs!

Melanie - I bet you'll do great with your presentation. Do you have any input as to why the price of beef is so high at my supermarket, and I'm sure in Canada as well? I'm guessing weather problems adversely impacted feed (corn, grain, hay) production, which forced some ranchers to cut back on their herd. And the remaining animals have to be fed higher priced feed, plus labor and fuel costs figured in. Supply & demand. There's part of your presentation right there, lol. Smart thinking vaccinating the calves as they head out.
Tina - Hoping your doc can come up with a solution to your painful foot. Cortisone shots sound good, at least a way to handle the pain.
On that topic, I got a kind of depressing email from my brother last night. His wife - my SIL - somehow tore a tendon in the front of her leg this summer that had to be surgically reattached. An odd thing. She was recuperating OK but now has a lot of foot pain. Plus a UTI and is having some memory loss from that. His property taxes have doubled in the past 6 years (whose hasn't, he lives close to Indianapolis). He normally is stoic and isn't one to open up. He did end the email with "but I'm not retiring". He's 72 and for his sanity and budget, working sounds like the best thing for him, he enjoys it and it's an upbeat atmosphere.
Lunch with M yesterday - Had a nice lunch with M yesterday. She's currently reading Dan Brown's "The Secret of Secrets" which she highly recommends. We talk about brains a lot, lol, and she said this book delves into consciousness and some brain stuff. I have it on order from the library.
Heather - sounds like you're having a wonderful time. LOVE that watercolor. To me, that's worth the price of the cruise, what a nice thing. Glad the knee brace is helping. Always look forward to your reports.
Allie - glad to hear from you! Take care. Can't believe Delia is already up and running. ๐
Tracey - sounds like MIL is being kept busy and entertained by Kaitlyn and family. You are doing a fantastic job helping to manage MIL's affairs from across the continent. Is there anyone back home who could be trusted to help - who'd have power of attorney?
Housemate for companionship topic - just me rambling:
M and I also talked about whether we'd have someone move into our homes for companionship as we age. (Her DH is still alive and healthy). It's one thing to need to share our homes with someone because we need them to financially contribute - help pay the taxes, utilities, food, etc. We concluded as long as we can afford to live independently, a dog or cat is might be a better roommate. ๐ I could probably live with my sister if she'd want to move out here.
My wheels have been turning. I don't have a Kirby or Corey or Beth's DH here to do the big stuff, but I need to consider just paying $$ and having that master shower replaced next year. I kind of talked about it with my contractor Roger who did some work on the house last year, but we never firmed anything up. A shower with grab bars would help a lot. The cost - probably a couple months $$ in an assisted living facility-I'm hoping to be 15 years from that stage if I make it that long, but who knows.
More I wanted to comment on but the sun is shining, leaves that need to be raked are drying off. Wind is picking up so I need get out there.
Have a fabulous day everyone!

we started our walk around 6ish this morning (dark) so we could be home in time to let the guys in to start working on the spin room. When we got back, I went to the gym first since I had to do the 8 miles then when I got back, he went to the gym. One of us needed to stay to watch the kids because the workers would be walking in and out.

Machka- that reminds me of the Okanagan Valley in British Columbia. Beautiful.
Melanie โ we think so too. ๐
I have family in that area so I've been all around there several times. Maybe that's one of the the things that attracted me to this place.
But the water in our case is salt water as it is a bay, or more technically a lagoon off a bay off the southern ocean.

Getting into and adjusting formal wear took some doing, but I managed it in the end. I had an AF beverage at the Captain's presentation of all the senior crew, about 5 of whom were completely bald!
Lovely meal! I had scallops and Dover sole. John had scallops and fillet of lamb. They produced a very nice chocolate birthday cake for John.
We actually had someone nice sitting next to us, so chatted away. She raises horses!
I didn't go to the evening show as I was v tired. For some reason I was retaining water. In the night I must have peeed 3 litres! Feel much better now. :-)
Breakfast has arrived!

Saturday
Fairly calm today for a change. Cool but sunny.
So of course, I went for a bicycle ride! My 40 km ride was the longest one I've done in 6 months! Felt great! But my legs were a bit tired.
Then I got out in the garden to wield my mattock. I'm still digging up the very persistent and long-rooted grass. Year 2. It's a slow process because this grass is not easy to uproot and its a big lawn.
I've really enjoyed a nice day outside. I've been longing for nice days.
Tomorrow another hurricane is supposed to blow in. Sigh.
