OCTOBER 2025 Monthly Running Challenge

Another short run yesterday. +12c twice as warm as monday's cold +5c and not as windy, so didn't need ear muffs. Loosing daylight fast, will need lights soon, more for the cage drivers to see me.
Garmin Mommy is telling me to back off the training with a Strained training load and HRV status that is dropping like a stone. The red triangle is new! 🤔 Probably still not recovered from the ultra earlier. Need to learn to back off a bit. Crappy sleep is not helping 🙄. Chatgpt is actually rather useful in coming up with all sorts of stuff including a race recovery plan and a ultra training plan. Sigh, can't muscle it anymore 😐️5 -

Thanks @quilteryoyo!
It was another lovely morning. It has been pretty warm in the afternoons, but the last few mornings have been really nice. It was 59° F today. I really love it when it is cool, but not cold. Today the plan was 800m intervals at 5K pace. It went well and I felt really good about it.

@WarmJellyfish haha.. What does the tech know? When I was sick last month it BEAT ME UP THE HEAD every day for not working out. Now that I am recovering and doing my more normal activity it BEATS ME UPSIDE the head for overtraining. I think that it's ability to look longer term is limited.🧐😏😬
A nice 4 miler for me this morning. It was more humid but I pushed the pace a little again and felt better. (yes fitbit I am WAY OVERTRAINING) ….
@kgirlhart congrats on meeting your RTY goal already. You have upped your mileage - used to be about 5 miles daily for you and now it is 6. Your long runs used to be 8-10 and now avg over that and I think you are taking less complete rest days. A great role model for ALL of us.

Yesterday was my longest run in decades, setting the treadmill to the same pace I use for warmup jogs pre-lifting, one-hour duration, and just go. Turns out the cardio base I've developed by doing long steep-incline walks set me up for success jogging, as I only stopped because the time ran out, not because I couldn't handle the work. Made sure to stretch after, would have loved to hit the hot tub but no time. Was moderately stiff the rest of the night, but today I can barely tell yesterday happened.

@SummerSkier I call my garmin mommy and daddy. daddy's training advice is to damn the torpedoes and go full steam ahead. mommy is going, hang on, you're working too hard. sit down have a pew and rest. both of them funnily and annoyingly trip each other up all the time……
3 -
You're doing great @WarmJellyfish . The light seems to be leaving here quickly too, but I'm sure not as quickly as you are seeing. Love your "mommy and daddy" Garmin personalities!
Great longer run @kgirlhart .
Nice run @SummerSkier .
Congratulations on the long run @nossmf ! Amazing.

I went out for a driveway/road wun late morning. It was 63F (17C). Felt a lot warmer than I expected. The running portion was at an avg pace of 12:11 min/mile. Avg HR was 131 with a max of 154 bpm. Splits were 12:47, 11:49, 12:01, and 12:11.
I ended the run at mom's, talked to her a few minutes, and then did a cool down walk home. I saw this milkweed seedpod that had broken open on the side of my driveway. I thought it was really cool looking.
I'm playing in a tennis tournament in a town that is about 1.5 hours away this weekend. My first match is tomorrow morning. I'm not sure how much time I'll have for running/walking, but will try to at least keep the streak going. (A friend of mine and I are going to drive down together every day instead of spending the night. That way, I won't have to board Tippy.)
6 -
Usual evening trail stroll. Last light beginning at 6.45pm.
6 -
Pretty @WarmJellyfish .
The streak has ended. Not really. But I had a dream last night where I was trying to do a run and couldn't make it up the hill at the end of my driveway. I sat for a minute and then had to crawl to the top. I finally looked at my watch, thinking that surely I had gotten my mile in, but it had been 20 minutes and I had only traversed 0.40 miles. I clearly remember my first thought was that I will have to report to my MFP peeps that "the streak has ended." 😂 I figure I dreamed this because I'm not sure how I am going to get my mile in with the tennis tournament today…and tomorrow. Anyone else have running dreams?
6 -
@quilteryoyo I think you should get up early and do a slog mile. That will probably get you activated MORE for tennis. I used to run before waterskiing and it limbered me up. I lost my streak when I injured my foot. I mean I literally could not have crawled a mile. And it actually was not the end of the world. You will make it happen.
Such beautiful photos today also. Jelly you REALLY captured those clouds So well. And the flower Quilter. WOW. 😍😍
1 -
@quilteryoyo me me! I have this recurring dream where I'm in a trail race where the trail markers are all messed up and not knowing which way to go, am I going forward, backwards, maybe made a wrong turn…..I hate backtracking 😂 and all the animals are having a field day watching me. Bears and cougars munching on popcorn with my clueless running entertainment…
@SummerSkier it's the phone! But it's still amazing the light on the clouds is actually coming from below the horizon, sun has already set.
I just had a peek at the weather radar, big band of snow slightly to the north and looks like some is headed this way today. Let's see if this pans out.
3 -
On the contrary
And it actually was not the end of the world
Something to be proud of. And a rare opportunity to try new things.
Either way, it's all good.

Hi everyone!
Thanks @chris_in_cal , @SummerSkier
Got in 3.51 miles at 09'39.
Fly out tomorrow. Probably won't get to run until Monday now. Two early AM flights back to back Saturday (London - Miami) and Sunday (Miami - Panama).
Side note. There's a cheesecake factory not too far from us on Saturday night... So I will get my annual fix of Cinnabon Cinnamon Swirl 😊
(Vermont doesn't have one; and while Vegas does - just didn't get a chance to go to Caesar's forum mall).

5 mile walk/jog with Mack lol

Great showing up @BigDfromNJ and @rennerkyler. Sounds like you are putting together back-to-back good running days @yirara I hope you've got the formula for staying healthier.
2 -
Thanks @SummerSkier . You know that I am NOT a morning person and I am already getting up at 5:00 in order to get ready and be where I need to be for the match. I ain't getting up any earlier in order to run. 😯 Sleep is more important to me.
@WarmJellyfish Love that your running dream includes the animals eating popcorn and watching you running and yon. LOL Did you get snow?
You're doing great @nossmf .
Great run @tarun_yadavA . Have safe flights and a fun trip. I have cheesecake envy, so would appreciate a picture at least. 😁
Great hiking @BigDfromNJ .
You did great @yirara . No shame in walking some, esp when you are running for that long.
@rennerkyler Nice trail run. Love the picture! Mack looks like a great trail buddy.

I got up early this morning to make it to the tournament in time - no running beforehand @SummerSkier.
I am on two teams playing in the tournament…65 and older and 40 and older. Today, my match was for the 65 and older combo team (6.5 for those who know about those things. I am the 3.0 player.) I played with a lady I had never played with before and we WON. It was a great match. Scores were 6-2 and 7-5. The Greeneville teams won 3 of their 4 matches today. I play two matches tomorrow.
When I got home today, at 6 pm, I went out and did a quick driveway wun. I "ran" a mile in 13:42 min and then walked 0.25 miles for cool down. So, the streak is still going.
I had intended to walk between matches (watching them) today, but didn't manage to do so. Tomorrow, I will have to get it in at the matches or it will really be hard to do after I get home since the last match doesn't start until 4:45 and then we'll probably go out to eat.
The weather was perfect today when I played. Started out at about 57F (14C), clear, no wind. Tomorrow will be a little bit warmer, but should be okay.

Friday was recovery day so just did a short walk. This morning was frigid. 0c/32f. Brrrr. Nearly wanted to turn around to get more layers, but I knew the moment I stepped back into the house I'd not be going out again. I used to be so hot in these conditions, now need polar bear fur. Funny that I was cold but still sweating. Did a middly length run. My lungs just remembered it doesn't like the cold anymore so was wheezing. Need a face mask to heat air. Tanked in the last 3rd. Wait, didn't I just do an ultra? Felt like a newbie.
@quilteryoyo congrats on winning the game. It did snow but it was the wet kind, yucks.

Got that 2 mile run in after Zumba! Happy Day!

Hi all, the Peachtree City 15K had fairly decent weather, though a little warm 64F. I started out running with my niece, but after almost 4 miles she said I was making her nervous, and told me to just go. I pushed the pace a little, but no where near my past races. End up with a 9:21 pace, 132/332 overall, 8th in AG. It was good to be around family. Brother walked the 5K with a few of his family, which is great for getting a new hip a couple months ago. Flying home in the morning.

I didn't get a chance to post yesterday, but I did get out for a 6.3 mile run. It was a good run. I just kind of took it easy. I saw a deer. He crossed the street near an intersection and he was standing there watching me approach. I was wondering how close I could get, but then a young man turned the corner behind the deer and it ran off. I have also seen the cross country team a couple of times this week. Several of them have started carrying their phones with the flashlights on. It really helps to make them more visible. I still wish they would wear lighter colored clothes, but at least they are doing something.
Congratulations on your 15K @Scott6255!
Thanks @SummerSkier,

This is true. It's funny how the mileage just gradually increased without me really even noticing it.

Sunday long run today and I hit the waterfront with my friend who was doing her last long run before the Auckland Marathon on November 2nd. I stuck with her for 10k but the pace was too fast, so I let her head off while I stopped for a gel and a loo break. I then carried on for another 6k at the same pace 😂. The gel obviously worked but I also think that without the pressure of keeping up and chatting, I was able to relax and maintain that speed.
Anyhow, it was my fastest 16k in a very long time (1:30:06) and I was shot at the end. Dead flat though, which helps. But happy to get it done.
I then sat on the beach for about 20 minutes to recover and watched the little kids learning to sail.

Well done on the 10miler!
Heavy meal last night, and then was up at 0330 am (jetlag). So got a gym workout in!
