Okay guys…. i can’t be the only one that logged in and thought.. “Oh no….”… I’ve been so used to logging that I’m afraid I have no clue what i’m even doing now. Personally, i loved the old formatting. What are your thoughts?

I can't stand it. I still haven't figured out how to copy and paste meals forward from the previous day! I've sent an email to support on how to change it back to the old format.

Hate it! Why? Why change everything about it? If it doesn't change back, I'm canceling and will ask for a prorated refund. There are plenty of other apps.

I hate this new layout! I am going to be looking for alternative apps.

I hate it as well. Why change something all of us are used to using? I see NO advantage to this, and hope the developers read these comments and change it back.

I hate it. Its no longer functional. Ive been a premium subscriber for years. I sent them a message and if they dont get back with me in 1 day, or if they dont fix it, im unsubscribing and deleting my account. This has become the worse garbage app ive used in a long time.

I worked as a software developer for a couple of decades.

In my experience, humans pretty much always hate new software.

If it's bad software in objective terms, the software deserves the hate.

But if it's good software, people hate it anyway. For a while. If it's actually good, after some period of time, they really like it, in fact like it better than the old version. This is absolutely the most normal reaction, something I've seen repeatedly.

I think a part of the reason is that when someone has gone through a learning process for a piece of software, they reach a point of feeling confident/competent using it. When a dramatically new version is introduced, suddenly they feel confused and incompetent again. That feels icky. We blame it on the software. In those cases, it's not the software, it's that change feels icky.

I don't have a strong opinion about the new update, because I'm a human, too. I've found and reported some problems I perceive with it. Mostly, I'm at that confused/incompetent stage. Because I've worked with so much software so am comfortable experimenting/exploring, my initial reaction to this is that some of the ways it now functions may be more direct and efficient once I get used to them. Other aspects of it may be worse.

At this point, I'm suspending judgement until I understand it better, since it's obvious that it still does the basic functions I need most. Switching to another app just introduces a whole new version of the confused/incompetent feeling, and that other app might turn out to be less good than this one once I go through all that, plus I'd lose a whole bunch of history. I'm going to give this one a chance for a while.

YMMV and that's fine, but I don't feel like immediately rage-quitting over this best suits my needs.

I’m on the iPhone app - my phone and app are up to date and I don’t see a difference in the diary, etc..

I gave up on any updates to the community forums.

I hate it to the point I’m thinking of cancelling my subscription. It’s so fiddly and unclear compared to the previous format. I liked the dashboard - now I have to go searching for my weight records. The food diary is so much harder to use.

All in all, a terrible update.

I hate it… so clunky and just a bad layout. Hate how you can no longer view the ingredients in one simple layout, but have to click to go into each meal to see beyond the first item logged… Also how they removed the option to copy meals to different days… There's a bunch of other things but too long to take the time to list them. The unpopularity of this update is also rampant on Reddit. Hopefully the developers listen to what their customers actually want.

Who even asked for an update…

I’m neutral at the moment, as it’s only just arrived in my phone. I don’t like that I can’t find things, but then I feel the same every time Microsoft updates, every time Netflix or Amazon changes their streaming layout, and even when the BBC changes their online profile. I can see from the other forums that there are some issues which I won’t like (inability to search by brand won’t be great) but I’m sure I’ll get used to it. And if I don’t, I doubt MFP will notice or care if I leave!

    What new update?

  • Lietchi
    Lietchi Posts: 7,334 Member

Update to the android app (not sure about the iOS app, if that is being updated too)

I haven't gotten the update yet. MFP seems to roll out updates gradually, and judging from the comments of users and MFPs statement regarding some functionalities still being under development, I'm glad it's not my turn yet...

this explains why as an Apple user- I have not seen anything on my app!

I'm an Android user and I haven't noticed any recent changes in the app. A while back they took the "progress" function out of the "more" menu and gave it a place on the basic ribbon on the bottom of the home page and most other pages. Once I found where they had moved it to, I was fine with it.

But, yeah, software changes are painful enough in terms of relearning stuff that folks in charge of changes should consider whether they can articulate benefits significant enough to make up for the pain caused to the vast majority of users in relearning how the software works (especially when you consider that software developers gave up a good 30 years ago in providing any real documentation, guidance, or useful assistance of any kind for users — we have to poke around and learn/relearn by trial and error, and perhaps get some help from other users in community fora).

I haven’t seen the big recent update everyone is talking about but-

    - now that I have given up my premium membership - they now have a big ad right smack in the center of the diary.

    :/

One is for Panera bread. And another for bagel bites.

    IMG_6702.jpeg

There is *nothing remotely similar in my browser history for this… this is a marketing choice.

in the AppStore.. MFP has gone from the most popular …down to the 6th popular fitness app.

I have to go through several layers to add water, whereas it used to be a single click. The prior layout allowed me to see EVERYTHING on the dashboard. Now you have to drill down through multiple layers for just about every piece of info you need. I cancelled my subscription because of this and as soon as the premium expires, I will move on to another app if they refuse to roll back most of this.

I hate this new update. Its like they took everything that everyone loved and just decided to get rid of it. I hate it so much that I'm going to have to cancel. Its soooo frustrating. Here are just a few examples. And for those of you who haven't gotten the update yet, count yourself lucky

    1. The old Diary is GONE! and replaced with a useless summary page that is now your "today" page
    2. Can't copy anything anymore like literally, there is no copy!!!
    3. Trying to find an menu a few weeks ago to add to today is impossible. you have to enter everything again … and so I do but …
    4. What AI? I type in a food and the app should know based on my previous entry, to suggest the same, but it comes up with the exact same wrong list I don't need, EVERY TIME!!!
    5. Can't move foods to a a different meal in the day

Its so sad, cause the old Myfitness pal was great, easy and even with the miscounting errors, I was alright with paying for it.

iOS user here. Mine hasn’t updated. For a while, Apple Stire said I needed to update, but I purposely didn’t. Now that update flag has disappeared. I suspect they postponed the update for those of us who haven’t?

The only difference I’m noticing is that the “…” copy meal function is suddenly a bit wonky. If I select copy an older dinner to lunch, it puts it in some random place like “dinner” or “evening snacks” or my “chai” category. Sometimes it will randomly add one line of the copied meal to another meal, so I’m having to be mindful of duplicate entries.

I do, however, find it interesting on a couple of counts:

1.) the update has brought out droves of long time user/first time board posters venting their fury, and furious they are. The lurkers are out in force, and good for them

2.) the “old” version, which also drove some of us to occasional despair has become the new Gold standard. That’s quite ironic

Despite being one of the most vocal bellyachers since Newsfeed was killed off, as long as MFP keeps working, I’ll keep using. It’s been effective with loss and maintenance, but man, do I miss my friends! Of yhose that left, for another app that had a (rather pathetic) social aspect, only two or three have checked back in. The rest still seem to all be over there.

I just couldn’t stomach learning a new, even buggier app than this one. So here I remain.

The new UX looks pretty in spots, but brutally promotes new engagement/planning features which quickly get AI sloppy if you explore. Useful basic features like copy a previous meal and save a meal are missing with a handwave “We’ll get to that later, until then just create a saved meal, and log that.”

But trying to log a previously saved meal — that looks complete and correct — often fails to log more than a a third of the meal’s foods.

Performance when a saved meal is logged is laughable — foods sputter into the Today page in randomly animated order over seconds — sometimes five or ten seconds.

The AI Support agent is inept and incapable of responding to any but the simplest two or three word requests.

It seems like someone at MyFitnessPal just vibe coded and pushed an AI slop implementation, turned out the lights, and fired the humans. Is MyFitnessPal owned by a greedy and inept Private Equity firm? Or just inept humans?

Today’s Lunch on the Web and iPad now shows 30 food items, with what looks like 6 duplicate attempts to add the same meal (the saved meal lists 7 foods) but it still has many missing meal items from several attempts to log the same meal this morning. (6x7=42 + I manually added 3 items to lunch = 45). So there appear to be some queued performance or other problems that delay visible logging of saved meals by two or three hours.

Where did the page go that listed all my friend’s achievements in one place?? I’ve been using MFP off and on for 10+ years and I was shocked to come back and see no activity page. I think it was the old dashboard. The new dashboard is boring

you mean the old Newsfeed page, where you could communicate with friends, celebrate wins, share tips.

That received the axe over two years ago.

Friends serve zero purpose nowadays, and yet they keep that “make friends here” thread up like it actually had a meaningful purpose. 🙄

The only friend requests you’re going to receive now are from romance and cyber currency scammers.

I have 37 friend requests pending right now. Such a handsome gallery of fellows panting for my attention. I only keep them to wag at my husband when he gets outta line. He doesn’t need to know every last one is a scam account.

I don’t even remember the last time I got a friend request from a legit user.

I'm on Android - and I also have failed to notice changes. I've been computer literate since 1967, so unless they CANCEL the software I'm using, I ignore changes to my processing sequences, mutter under my breath at anything requiring me to learn new procedures and roll with the inevitable changes.

I DO understand the complaints, though.
