We have a brand new Lego store which opened a few days ago at the end of the block where I work. I went in for the first time today.
That Poinsettia of yours is $100!! I liked the houses and architectural ones - running between $200 and $400.
I've never done Lego, and at the prices I may not. But I do like watching the show!
Melanie - your stories about the cows reminded me of when I first came to Australia. My husband and I lived well off the grid in a remote shack because a bushfire had burned through the area and there was nowhere else to live. To get there, we had to drive a mud track through the orchard and farm property where my husband worked.
We often drove through the paddocks where the cows were and I learned that cows like to congregate at the gates and tramp up the mud and make it really challenging to get the gate open to drive through. I'd be dressed up for work, but with my Blunnies and an old jacket on so that I could hop out of the vehicle, shoulder (like lean against the cows and push) the cows out of the way, slop through the mud, chase the cows off a bit more, open the gate, race back to the vehicle, drive through, chase the cows off or back in, and close the gate.
When I first got there, I couldn't work (not the right visa), so when my husband finished work and walked or drove up the hill, I'd walk out to meet him. I had been told that they were putting bulls in the paddock with the cows for a while, and that I should be OK to walk across the paddock, but if a bull noticed me, I was to get back into the trees around the edges. One evening I set off to walk across the paddock to meet my husband and heard a rumble up at one end of the paddock. I looked up, and there was the bull … staring toward me, pawing the ground with a hoof and raising dust, and rumbling. I was back in the trees in a flash!
One evening, we drove home from somewhere and discovered the cows were out - they'd broken through a section of fence. We spent a couple hours running back and forth getting most of them back in and shoring up the fence. They had separated the cows and calves earlier that day, and the cows were anxious.

On weight loss — I find that exercise makes the difference for me. There are times I do eat more, but exercise can balance things.
And not have a lot of snacks around the place.
Mo — I'm sorry your birthday wasn't better.
Lisa - I might have to look into the book "The Body Keeps the Score: Brain, Mind, and Body in the Healing of Trauma," … at times, I wonder if I'm still affected by my husband's accident and whole situation around that back in 2018. One thing is that I just cannot relax.

Over the past few days, we've had hurricane-strength winds … which caused a small, nearby bushfire to take off and become uncontrollable. It was 12 km away and the wind was howling between 70 and 90 km/h.
Fortunately, the wind died down and today we've had the most rain we've had in a long time, and now they're issuing flood warnings.
I'm not keen on spring.
Yesterday (Tuesday), I worked in the office in the city … then my husband came into town and we went to a talk at the library on Bees. Our mentor did that talk so we thought we'd go along to hear her. We stayed and chatted after and visited a museum display there that focused on bees. By that time we had missed our bus, so my husband and I had dinner and caught the next one an hour later. It was 9:30 pm by the time we got home!
But the bee talk was good! There are two more talks (by different people) and we're going to those as well - they're in November.
I've been busy doing cycling club work and have gone to bed late the last couple nights. Quite tired now.

I'm sorry your birthday wasn't all that you wanted Mo, but I'm glad you got your card and enjoyed it. Hugs in a envelope!

Machka - "The Body Keeps the Score" was the first time I understood that my early abuse physically changed my brain and my body's physical reaction to danger. It is dense, I won't kid you. I liked it because it doesn't just describe the changes, but gives some tools that can help you change how you can work with or deal with that damage—and not just medication. And on another tack - I can see why spring is not your favorite, between fires, floods and high winds!
Back into my more usual life now that Corey's gone back to work, and slept almost an hour longer than with him home! Got the Skyrizi out of the fridge to get to room temperature, and I try not to do anything too crazy on injection days. No reaction so far, but not pushing my luck.
Corey came home with the dentist's treatment plan estimate - they want to put a crown on one tooth. It's long been broken, but they want to keep it from decaying. $1400. Ow. May be his Christmas present.
Bits in front of me - masking off the windows, knobs, etc. on the other side of the metal door. Plus I need to see if I can find a replacement sweep, the draggy flappy bit that goes on the bottom - the old one, being unprotected from the rain for years, was in bad shape, and brittle, and came off while I was prepping the first side. You never know what's going to fall apart when you're renovating!
Plus I have some clay house numbers to paint, and the next color to put on the refrigerator painting - and I'd like to get on the rower for at least ten minutes and get that habit begun again. Nothing big, just enjoying my time alone again.
At the moment, a lap full of cat and some reading, until she decides to move along.
Hope it is/was a lovely Wednesday for everyone.
Love from chilly Arkansas, preparing for cold rain on Friday…

Pip - good job with the 10 mile run, you still got it girl. 😁Glad to hear they found the carpet.
Machka - advertisers are really pushing the Manuka honey these days, as having all kinds of special health properties. Do you know anything about this? I always heard that it's best to eat local raw honey, if available, to help with allergies.
Debbie - I'm like you, not a fan of goat milk or goat milk products like cheese and whey. Having had bucks - "Billy goats" around and smelling their disgusting behavior (they pee on their chins folks!), it's a turn off. On the other hand, I like sheep milk (I'd sometimes have to milk out older ewes with huge udders and a single lamb) and love sheep cheeses. The rams we had were odorless and generally pretty tame and nothing obnoxious, lol.
Mo - ((((HUGS))). You are doing an amazing job keeping up with everything. Glad to hear your DH has a job and offers coming in.
Evie - Go Blue Jays! I'm not a sports fan per se, but it's exciting to be around people that are.😉 So I'm rooting for your team.
Heather - great photos, sounds like you and Johnny are having a wonderful time.
Lisa - smart looking exercise room, so clean, organized and inviting. Good job. 😁 Hope the Skyrizi injection is a breeze.
Lunch with my friend L today. She's in her mid 50's, divorced for many years, and has a bunch of "guy friends" who she does different things with and that help her do handyman chores. She's amazing in that she has set firm boundaries and she doesn't let any of them rule her or her time. She's the first gal I ever met who had this kind of power, lol. I'm intrigued and am going to ask her how she does it. Not that I have a lot of guy friends lined up, but who knows what's in the future. 😁

Ah… injection is done, and for the first time, I didn't have to look at that doolally front-and-back instruction set. Just for fun, though, I spread it out to show you:
Three feet by four feet, no joke, printed back and front. In one of my incarnations, I was a technical writer and I could have probably put the same amount of information on an A4 (standard) piece of copy paper, with an FAQ on the back. I may have said all this already to y'all. It always just takes me aback.
They spend all this money on this mess, and then you have to supply your own alcohol prep pad for the needle and your skin, which would have cost them less than a penny to include. Eventually, when all of us boomers are gone, they'll just put a QR code on it and you'll have to go look on the Internet.
I despair of these kind of seemingly small things that add so much friction into our lives, I really do. Not sweating about it, just shaking my head.
(Edit to add: I am genuinely grateful that I don't have to go to a clinic or hospital to get the shot. I need to add that. At least there was some bright girl or boy who thought that people could do this at home and created the delivery for an on-body injection.)
Anyway, now that I've cranked about one of the realities in my life, I'm going to go ahead and run into town. Still too cold outside to do the work on the door, and my door sweep is ready for me to pick up at Home Depot. Don't even have to go inside. Would have cost me $35 to get them to deliver it to me, though… so worth a little drive.
Later, mah babies,
Love,

Good Morning, Ladies.
I took Rose to see my mom and to drop off the check. Rose was in love with the seniors there. She ran up to everyone and sat still to allow the pats. The seniors were so happy. Then she ran me, and I should have made her slow down, directly to my mom's room and pawed at the door. I was shocked that Rose knew her room. They told me that she was in the community room. So Rose greeted everyone gently and then ran to my mom. She made sounds like, "I missed you so much." She demanded belly rubs. My mom remembered her, too. She said, "Oh, Rose, you are okay." She gave her a great rub down. Then Rose hid behind me. So I patted her for assurance. Then she woke up this lady in a wheelchair and scared her. I knew it was time to go. Rose greeted everyone on the way out.
On the way out, the resident wanted to visit with her one more time. Then Rose was ready to go. We were going to Hollywood Feed for her bully sticks, but something told me to check on my mom's account, and it was minus $600.00. :( Meaning that the check will bounce. I looked at her bank statement, and it was there on 10/14. I don't know what happened. So, I was disgusted, and I decided to run my numbers in my account. I couldn't make it work because DH used some of my money in my account. So Rose and I took a good nap. When I got up, I remembered that I had a savings account to use. So, I put in a request for the money transfer. I was so relieved. I guess naps are suitable for the brain. I will replenish that account next week. I love having rainy day money for things like that or a car breaking down. As for Rose, she was so exhausted that she was snoring. I am so glad she made the seniors so happy when she visits. I grilled a lean burger and air-fried fries. Couldn't eat it all, so Rose had the other half. I piled on the spinach and power greens on top. I painted for fun and read a book.I was supposed to plan a gathering with my friends to celebrate, but my heart wanted to go to the hospital, bathe my patient, and read to him before bed. My little guy has learned to sit up on his own. He is delayed developmentally, but that is more than many ventilated kids can do. So, I celebrate the wins. My Birthday improved when I was reassigned to him upon my return. The other patient was too much for my assignment without help. That is why I helped the nurse who took him on. She didn't want him the next day either. Like Lisa, I think about how my dad died at 69, and I wonder if I had 9 years left. Yet my mom is 83 and going strong physically. So who knows.
I am avoiding the scale currently. But my scrubs are really loose like pajamas. My newest scrubs are in smaller sizes, and I have more room in them. When I work, I close all of my rings too.
Lanette, you are a hoot! Managing DH is a job in itself. I am not good at dating and working with men. No one for me if DH is no longer around. I can be friends with them, but that is it. You go ahead, young lady, and have fun.
Lisa, I love the cardigan. If you sell it, you can make a good amount. Can not wait to see what else you come up with.
Pip, 10 miles? Impressive! How is Ethyl and the gang? Did they enjoy their walk?
For some reason, I want some overalls to wear around the house. I was looking for some on Amazon. We will see. I need to donate my stuff to tackle two more closets. Did a lot of organizing last week. I'd better hit the shower.
Talk to you all later.

Both my computers have spent two days with the wonderful computer repair man The upgrade to Windows 11 is taking a long time because my faithful old laptop was built for Windows 7. I’ll pick them up at 10 and will happily hand over my credit card.

Took Stormi to the groomers early this morning. I was grooming her myself but doing a horrible job so splurged the $60 (yikes, I pay $40 to get mine done). Worth it:
I can tell she feels better, but the 3 other dogs greeted her like who are you? Some growling until they realized who it was.
Pip- nice 10 and Ethyl is gorgeous 💜
Lisa- thanks for the book and good advice. My issue isn’t knowing if I’m hungry, it’s more knowing when to stop once I get going. If I get too hungry that’s when I really get in trouble.
Beautiful gym- love how bright it is. Mine is gloomy in the basement.Kylia- YAY for moving and losing! I have a junk cabinet as my husband loves sweets and my kids are in and out with their families throughout the day grabbing snacks. If only I could forget which cabinet it is- like that light that the guys from Men In Black use to erase your memory.
Mo- I will give that recipe a try.
Lanette- I know I have some insulin resistance. I think it’s from years of being on call, eating lots of carbs and sugar and stress of work and family caught up yo me. I have asked for a fasting insulin the next time I get a blood test to see where I’m at. My nurse practitioner seemed to think that A1C levels wouldn’t be accurate because my iron levels are high 🤷🏻♀️
Practice for me is now split. I closed my mobile practice in 2014 and went back to work in a mixed animal practice for 4 years. That was the end for me in full time practice. I was 45 miles from the clinic, on call every other night and all Sundays, and had to go back to companion animal after not having done that in over 20 years. Plus my boss was horrible. Left there a mess. Told my husband I couldn’t do it anymore. Then a neighbouring vet who had gone to a pharmaceutical job told me to apply for large animal technical services position. I did and got it and thoroughly enjoy it. No sales, just dealing with veterinarians from all across Canada regarding the use of our products. I also returned as “an as needed” associate position at a livestock practice. He could not find an associate and is in need of a hand sometimes. My pharmaceutical job requires me to be fully licensed so I can practice as well.Debbie- loved the goat story. They do not handle stress of any sort so wasn’t super surprised the C section didn’t survive. And those boar goats do reek- especially, as Lynette said, they like to pee on themselves to make them extra attractive 🤢
Matchka- bulls terrify me, but our cows aren’t much better. They either take off running when they see people or stand their ground and decide whether you are worth the energy to trample. Thanks for sharing the memory- I love cow stories 💙
My daughter ran some webinars for a farm animal care group on bee keeping. She didn’t present, she just did the webinar stuff. I learnt a lot of out bees from what she told me after them. I saw this photo of a bee and the caprtion said they sometimes will fall asleep on a flower. Do you know if this is true? That bee bum is so cute!
Take care of yourselves,
Melanie, Alberta

No issues after the shot, so I think I can drop that from the worry list every eight weeks. It's a good thing - 'cause I ended up at four different places in town, plus had to get gas, and then Corey asked me to stop and get a couple things for him, too.
Glad to get it all done in one day, though. Did pick up a notebook to try to corral all the projects in one place. I keep trying to do that on the computer, without notable success, so I'll try it in analog fashion. Plus a call with a much-loved friend on the way home, it's been a great day so far.
Added to that, I got the door masking done - something that's easier to do with Corey at work, because I can tape up nine panes of glass in about an hour with music playing and actually enjoy a very tedious task. I can't have music on when he's here, because the moment I turn it on, he shows up to ask me another question. The boy has a gift. 👀😂🥰
My energy levels are still holding, and less overall pain. I've noticed when the thyroid starts going sideways, the pain levels in my joints start increasing. Went and looked at the symptoms, and ends up I've been dealing with eight out of ten.🤷🏻♀️ And it took TEN MONTHS to get the dosage right. Three tries of inching it up. I'm trying to be grateful that I didn't end up getting too high a dose, but it's kinda hard right this second.
Melanie - Thanks for the explanation on your job. I'm glad you found something that wasn't so stressful and hard on your body that still lets you do what you love. A lot of studies have shown that literally half the people who quit jobs do so because of bad managers. Love the bee bum, and Stormi looks quite spiffy. 🐕
Mo - Glad you and Rose had a good time at your mom's care home, and that your special little guy helped your birthday get better. Thanks for the compliment on the cardigan. Making lots of progress on my refrigerator painting today. Isn't what I thought it would be, but inspiration isn't to be ignored…
Pip - So glad Ethel is doing well.
Tacos for dinner, one of our favorite meals. Quick, easy and lots of protein.
Later, my dears,

Pretty good day today. Tenerife hasn't as much glorious nature as previous islands, but still an invigorating ride through numerous vertiginous hairpins. We had a great stop off for wine and cheese, and I ordered the local coffee, which has condensed milk, rum, palm syrup, and cinnamon. Excellent!
I bought some palm syrup, from La Gomera, at the indoor market that we stopped at. It's like maple syrup.
Photos to follow.
This evening we had a long chat with the people on the next door table. You tend to swap life histories!
Tomorrow Gran Canaria. A long tour, but we are getting sandwiches and cake. We are seeing a beautiful old town, a huge volcanic crater, and botanical gardens.
Love Heather xxxxxxxx

I went to the gym this morning, though my arm was sore from the flu shot yesterday. Lunch was a single spam lite packet fried up with teriyaki sauce, a microwavable bowl of white rice, cooked up egg all pressed in the spam container then taken out and wrapped with nori seaweed. I had two. They were glorious musubis!
Tonight is just some chicken nuggets, zucchini tots, a protein shake and some buttermilk dressing to dip them in.
Took a nap for an hour today. I needed it!

Melanie,
You sound like a person with great work ethics, and come from hearty stock! To me those are admirable qualities! You have a strong constitution! Me, I am polar opposite, but I can kill a spider if need be, as long as its not a big fella. I grew up in Oregon in the outskirts of Portland , towards Mt Hood. We had a "craft farm" with like 4 acres. It was an old berry field so great drainage and soil for our garden. We raised beef cows, our first 2 cows were named Hamburger and Steak. I never made the connection! Dinner table banter: Dad- "We're eating hamburger". Me- " um ok". We had a bunch of Angus cows which were smart things and would get on their knees and go under the low electric fence. We had to string another! One of our Momma cows was sent to Japan for breeding, we kids thought that was so amazing! It was not one of the Angus cows, we didn't have them long. My best memory was when it was really warm in the summer and I would lie in the white porcelain claw footed tub that served as our water trough. The cows were like, "why are you in my water human"!

Heather … Great photo of you! The scenic shots have been beautiful too.
Mo … a belated Happy Birthday!
Melanie … your life as a vet and on the farm is so very interesting to me. Thank you for sharing. I understand food restriction/diet struggles…I battle them constantly.
Carol … you and your family are continually in my prayers. If you're reading, know you are loved …
Lisa … the cardigans are really cute and on trend.
Tracey … thinking of your family and hoping that you're finding clarity on how to best help your MIL.
Allie … glad you're out of the hospital. I wish you would rest more …
Kelly … I've been thinking of you too! Hope all is well.
I went on a cleaning binge and, of course, overdid it. My back is not happy and I've spent the last few days needing to baby it. It's slowly getting better, but I don't like how quickly I go into pain with activities that never used to bother me. I know this is a sign of weakening muscles and that has to change.
This weekend is our church Trunk or Treat event. I'm not really keen on the whole concept, or Halloween in general for that matter, but I still volunteer each year to create a trunk. To sort of combat the secular nature of the event, my trunks always have a Bible theme. This year's trunk involves crayons and "drawing near." I have also purchased crayon costumes for my husband and I. They are cheap, cheap, cheap costumes and we will look ridiculous (mine barely fits) … but the kids will like them.
Rainy days here near Buffalo
