I am not a huge fan of 30ds but I am ok with it. I have done it for 4 days and it is getting easier except I still think it is kinda hard on my knees. My arms aren't as sore today because I am used to it but I am worried my knees won't get used to it. How do I know if I am just being a pansy pants or if it could be an issue?

Is the pain getting worse? Is it a sharp pain or just a gentle pain? Is it during certain moves that you can maybe work around?

For me, I wasn't doing it every day but I got about half way through the second week then ended up stopping because it hurt my knees. I found my knees mostly hurt during the lunges so I could've just swapped the lunges for squats or something else...but i ended up just quitting and doing something else (I think it was doing the exact same moves every day that hurt my knees.) Now I'm doing boxing/karate/dancing on my Wii and Insanity videos.

I would just try to watch it. If it starts to get worse, stop. If you can, swap the exercise to something that doesn't hurt. If your knees hurt during the whole workout then stop. At the least don't do it every day, just 3 or 4 times a week at first and if the pain still continues then stop. My friend was doing Insanity and didn't stop when her knees hurt and she pushed her knees so far that she couldn't work and she's still getting over it (this was back in June I think)

if the pain is in the joints then do a modified version of what you are being asked to do
you are exercising the muscles and I have heard that that particular work out is hard on the knees

so do a modified version of the moves that are painful for the knees - when the muscles that support the knees are stronger then you can try the unmodified moves but that wont happen in just 30 days
  • I finished L2D4 tonight and I have had trouble with my knees since L1D1... I also picked up tennis recently. My knees aren't used to the impact that I am putting them through. I am finding that for myself, it is getting better as it goes along. Some days are better than others for me too. The jumping jacks and the jump rope are what cause discomfort for me. So, I take smaller steps in my jumping jacks when they are hurting and I barely come off of the ground for my jump rope. In my opinion, 30DS is VERY hard on the knees.

i don't know what weight you are but if you are pretty heavy like i am/was when i done it and already suffer from knee pain you might get a littlle pain just after but think of the greater good just make sure it's the "normal" knee pain! lol
good luck and just try your hardest and yes you will ache afterwards for a little while!
no pain no gain(or loss in your case) lol

Which part of the workout are you finding it the hardest on your knees? I started doing this workout and I way 230, and have not felt any problems with my knees. There could be a possibility that your form is a little off, so when you do a lunge or squat, your knees are going behind your toe. If the pain is a sharp pain that doesn't seem to go away I would seek medical assistance but if not it just might be your knees are not used to the stress.

I do the cardio bits on my mini trampoline to ease the pain on my knees. According to my HRM I burn more calories this way as well and doesn't hurt so much at all. I have to just bite my lip through the lunges etc. Am on L2 day 8 now and just want to get to the end :-)

Thanks for the input. I have noisy joints I have always said I sound like an old person when I get up because of all the noise my joints make, even when I was skinnier. I have had the most issues with my knees making noise lately and after reading peoples posts I think it isn't so much just the minor pain but I freak out when they make weird noises while I exercise and I am paranoid there is an issue.

Are you wearing decent shoes? Some of the cardio is fairly high impact and good shoes are important...

I did day 1 last night. I have bad knees and am very heavy, but I was ok.

I have done day 3 level 2 today and my knees are killing me. I found level 1 fine, and have never had knee trouble before. I know my form is ok as have had it checked at the gym several times. It;s in the cardio I feel it, not the lunges or squats, yet I had no difficulty in level 1 so it has me confused.

However there is a lot of info pointing to 30DS causing knee problems. I dont want to stop but I am not going to risk damage either

Seems a reasonable article with some good suggestions.

I have to say the comment in there about 'weak legs' rather than 'bad knees' reflects my experience. The stronger I get, the more knee pain is reduced.

I wish mine were like that - now that my legs are stronger my knees are crapping out!
