My dear mother would fry onions and garlic before company came, to make the house smell nice. There were no onions nor garlic in the meals she was cooking🙃😂. She also wiped her floor trim with Liquid Gold so it would make the floor seem shinier! The floor trim was a rubber type trim. Strange!
You are lucky Cory picks out the mushrooms! My guy would just see a mushroom and be like no...nope!🙃
I still have an appetite, a desire for foods and that's a good thing. Sometimes the medication can give you frozen belly where you have no appetite, no real desire to wish to eat. What fun is that? So I like that this low dose still keeps me from wanting the cookies, candy, and chips, but still enjoying eating in general.👍🏼

HHmm what gives me joy?
Video chatting with my sons, and grandkids. Fixing a rather complicated meal and husband having two heaping plate fulls. Playing with arts and craft things.

Pip, I meant to ask you how you got the panties on Chipsa. I’m think age is a factor. When Lucy went into heat a few weeks ago, I bought doggie diapers at Petco. Got one log in and fastened but that was it. She immediately turned to it and tore it off. Returned the diapers and just dealt with the discharge. Wasn’t too bad. She kept herself clean for the most part.
On this Tuesday, she will be spayed.
spoiler about dogs and diapers. I posted by accident. Meant to save it.

What makes me happy? Hearing how good my son sounds on the phone now. I hope he is finally ready to stay that way!
oli have developed some kind of illness. Slept most of the day yesterday. No ambition and just plain weak and tired. Still feel that way but have GP appointment in a bit. It may be sinus infection. I’ll find out ( or just plain old stress that my body has said “enough”!
Those of us who are facing cataract surgery, I was glad when I had the surgery done. All I need now are reading glasses. And a low strength at that!
Gotta go get ready for doc.

Topical Ibuprofen, paracetamol tablets and a knee brace did not prevent Bea pick up being really painful. I am fed up.
John doesn't seem to have any sympathy. That makes me cross.

Hello Ladies;
Barbie, thank you for bringing us into November. Last year was incredibly hard for you, and I was always amazed that you managed to get us into another month. Jake was so sick around this time. I want to send you hugs because the anniversary is approaching, and it is hard.
Today is the anniversary of when I lost my dad 22 years ago, and I still miss him. I just got back from seeing the weight loss doctor, and she is pleased that I've lost 4 pounds. I am mad at myself for gaining 4 pounds. I told her that I lost more. She told me to exercise and get more sleep. 4 hours is not enough. I went to work on Saturday, not realizing it was daylight saving time, so I had to work 13 hours. My student asked if she could leave at 6 am, and I said yes, because she is not getting paid. I slept most of the day on Monday when I got off. I am going to try Ashwaganda and see if that will help settle my mind so I can sleep. My goal for this month is to sleep more, complete my CEUs, and exercise more to support my body and improve my sleep quality. DH is loving his new job; I hope this works for him. I just found the location of my new job, and it is even closer to where I live. Rose was with me, so I didn't get to tour it.
Ginny, I didn't mean to say the neighborhood is bad, because it isn't. We are older here and very cautious about opening doors at night. Our neighborhood has a church that hosts "Trunk or Treat" instead. I used to love to hand out candy. With my kids, we went out on Halloween to our friend's annual party and trick-or-treated in Fondren. In my neighborhood, they used to drive over to do trick-or-treating. We had to have a big box and load it with candy and leave a note to take only two each. I worked on Halloween and got to see my babies dressed up. They were so cute.
Melanie, you and your sister are very pretty. Your "Monkey" is too cute for words.
Pip, I love your jersey and hoodie. It is disappointing that they couldn't do the year. You could put a patch on it with the year—just a thought.
Tracey, I am so proud of the work you have done for MIL. Roger sounds happy to look out for his mom, too.
Machka, you have had a great year so far. You are so organized and precise with your posting. I am trying to figure out what I have read. "Sitting with Dogs" was interesting, yet sad about what people do to dogs and how they are often discarded as if they don't have feelings. Some of the romance books are so sexually graphic. Like Amy Daws' books, but skipping that part, and getting to the meat of the story helps. "You, Again" was long, but I gave it four stars. "Without a Hitch" was 3.5 stars, and "I Love You Like It's 1999" was also 3.5 stars, so only one book had four stars, and three had 3.5 stars, with none having five stars.
Heather, Bea, and Eddie did well with their costumes.
Carol, I hope you are feeling our love and hugs.
Lanette, I hope Rose's friend Rosies feels better soon. Sounds like she is in great hands.
Allie, your grands are so cute. How are you doing?
Beth, I hope you finally find a mattress that works for you and your DH.
Kylia, I am so sorry the mechanic passed, but now he is free of pain.
Lisa, I am sorry your intestines went south. I'm so glad you have Corey.
Michelle, I love that blue crab! I wish I could make one too, or buy yours.
Good to hear from you, Sue.
Rita, trust your motherly instincts. Hugs
Okie, how are you?
Margaret, great job on maintaining your weight and health on vacation.
You all are in my heart, and I wish you all peace and joy.
XO,
Mo in Mississippi

I just got really lucky I guess. She kept it on, no fighting it. I bought the reusable ones. I then went to the $1 store and got some period liners and put that on there so it doesn’t get so nasty and most of the pee gets on the pad. When it’s dirty, I rinse it out. I put some dawn soap , water, baking soda and odor/stain remover stuff and soak the diaper overnight. It’s a quick process and she only wears it when she’s inside, especially when we sleep. So far so good

🌻🌞 Mo, thank you for your kind words. This time last year was tough for Jake and me. Yes, he was even sicker than either of us realized. His daughter visited me this weekend and we shared memories and feelings and had good times together but after she left, the dogs and I were sad. I had to use most of what was in my kit of spiritual tools to get through and I'm coming out the other side.

Tracey - great news about the weight loss and HRT. Hormones (or lack of) seem to affect us in so many ways. I'm not surprised about MIL's missing rings. Wonder what else is missing that hasn't been nailed down. Glad the POA is in the works, that should streamline things. Did you find someone to help unload that dresser?
Margaret - thank you for sharing the photo of the get-together at your brother's house. Looks like a fun time and neat people to spend time with. 🤩
Heather - sorry to hear about that painful knee. Hope it's a simple fix. Aggravating when nothing seems to touch the pain.
Rita - good news about your son, I'm sure it's a relief that he's in a safer situation. Sorry to hear you are under the weather.
Beth - I understand about the protein. I've been collecting recipes for cookies and desserts made with almond flour, PB2, regular peanut butter, etc. I figure if I can't stay away from cookies, maybe a super healthy one will fit the bill.
Melanie - maybe some time spent with your sister will recharge your batteries for your visit with your dad. Glad to hear you're having a good time in Fernie.
Debbie - I'm not familiar with MRI's to diagnose dementia but had one several years ago on my brain to see if there was a reason for hearing loss in one ear - tumor perhaps. Hope all goes well with your mom. I remember when you lost your dad to Covid, so sad.
Mo - I found the "I don't care" club a few weeks ago too and it's very entertaining. I think I was a charter member and didn't even realize it - I didn't care if I went to Walmart in my gardening sweats, for example, lol. Neat that your new job is closer to home, and so happy your DH likes his new job. Hoping you'll be able to get better sleep once you start the new job. 😉
Yesterday was windy and rainy and I was busy in the afternoon keeping sparrows out of the chicken run. The visitors like to leave their calling cards in the chicken feeder and their water bowl. I just spotted a couple intruders in there and shooed them out. I'm getting some big wads of bird netting ready to stuff in every hole that's large enough for a bird to squeeze through. Sparrows are a pain but I'm kind of impressed by their tenacity. 😁 I'm aggravated, yet an admirer of "bird brains."
Collette came this morning, the house looks and smells great. I'd say Collette's visit every 2 weeks is certainly a joy in my life. She is kind, trustworthy, energetic.

Lisa - thank you! It’s worth every grey hair and anxious feeling I have to have her in a safe and loving place.
I check my bank account every day, I keep wishing there was a lot more in it. 😂 there have been a lot of unexpected expenses this past month.
Rita - I’m glad your son is doing well. Your support probably helps a lot.
Heather - I hope your pain subsides soon. I tried a new product for Rodger today, he said it made a difference. It’s called Biofreeze
Debbie - I hope you have a successful trip with your mom.
Lanette - I’m worried about what else might be missing I fear a fiddle her father (brother in law) made is missing. Her son in law says he hasn’t seen it for a while. I spoke to him today to discuss him going to get the things she wants.
We found a guy, funnily enough from NB, that unloaded the dresser today for $30. It was worth it.
I love the “we don’t care club” another current favourite is Chicken Happy Hour. Not much to say tonight, I feel I’m fighting a cold.

Heard a bit more about my son's ankle problem last night. He was just jogging across a road and it turned. Has ripped off tendon from the bone and much other damage. Not sleeping well with pain. Can't drive of course. They will see in 6 months if he needs an operation. I think the boot comes off in a couple of weeks.
They provided a cake for John, which was nice. Edie was at football, so we didn't see her.
Today I've been getting ready for DSIL coming on Friday to celebrate with John. By special request he is making Moussaka for Friday night. We are out for dinner on Saturday, at Petit Pois. I just have lunches to do. Caesar Salad on Friday.
I've washed linen and made her bed. Also ordered new white towels for her as I'm fed up with being ashamed of my old ones - over 30 years old and pretty crunchy. Unfortunately, every step is an effort. Grrr!
John is out buying aubergines and minced lamb. Also posting my annual Christmas donation for a homeless person's Christmas Dinner. :-)
Love to all. Hard time of year for many I know. Including my friend Lesley. She is trying, and failing, to make some inroads into her partner's study. He died in December, four years ago. The study has turned into a shrine. She is sending me videos and photos to help her. A friend is coming to stay this weekend, but doesn't like sleeping in the room as it's so overwhelming.
My thoughts are with all of you who are struggling.

Mo - Thanks for the shout out! I'm here, reading along. I'm in the middle of cleaning out my Christmas crap in my storage room to weed out what I can get rid of. Some of it is lovely garland, etc, but I haven't used it in years so it needs to go to make room for the Halloween crap we use every year for our Halloween party. The Halloween and general party stuff is all weeded through and back on the shelves. I have ordered new storage tubs (many of the 20+ year old ones were cracking so I'm replacing them) and when they are all here I can continue with my project. Fingers crossed the stuff I want to keep fits in the tubs I have gotten AND the tubs fit on the shelves. I should have measured to be sure the tubs would fit in the available space…..but I'm a bit of a wing-it kind of girl 😀.

Heather - Very nice photo of your son, Bea and John. I was wondering about your son's injured ankle. Sounds like he really did some damage. It's so hard when driving is curtailed. I understand, a little, what your friend Lesley is going through. I've donated and sold a lot of my DH's things, but have more to go through. Little reminders of him still remain in the house, and that's how it should be I think. He could walk into the house and it would look much the same as before he passed. I figure when/if I finally move, that's when I'll select a few things of his and mine to bring to the new place. Otherwise, I'm not feeling guilty that it's not a priority.
Barbara - have a safe drive to Medford for all of your stops. Sounds like your area is getting the blast, we're getting a little break for now.
Kylia - I forgot to mention - your current carpeting still looks great in my opinion.😁 My carpet is near the same color but with a lot of spots thanks to cat barfs and dog barfs/accidents/human coffee/food spills after nearly 20 years here.
Foods that lower blood sugar - I ran across this doc a few days ago. I was curious how my A1C could have dropped over the past 6 months, even with incorporating more carbs. Did strength training and walking with weights do it? Perhaps, but after watching this video, I realize I had been adding a lot of these foods to my diet so maybe they helped too. Chia seeds. Salmon. Cinnamon. Avocado. Chickpeas (Hummus). I really like that he gives a scientific explanation of why and how they work. If interested, here's a link - 14 minutes.
Top 10 Foods to Lower Blood Sugar QUICKLY (Without Medications)
Sparrows - I beefed up more of the chicken run yesterday afternoon with that tangly bird netting. It's like concertina wire, lol. I discussed this bird problem with AI Copilot, and it suggested looking into mylar bird scare tape. Tying it to the apple tree next to the chicken coop, even to part of the coop itself and their enclosure. I ordered some from Amazon, will be here Friday. In the meantime, I remembered I have a lot of sparkly mylar garland that seems to be kind of the same thing. So will drape a some of that around the coop in the meantime and see if it helps.
Quick comments on Food Stamps/SNAP delays and Community support.
I wanted to mention that the outpouring of donations and monetary support to food banks, church soup kitchens, senior lunch programs, restaurants giving out free meals, etc. have been overwhelming in my community. People are anxious to help their neighbors. When I was at the grocery store last Sunday, I asked one of the clerks if she'd noticed any problems.
She said only a few have commented, and they were concerned that they couldn't buy snacks and energy drinks. 🤔
She also said that overall, most of the ones who really need and appreciate the benefits at her store seem to be the elderly and they choose foods wisely with the benefits. I had been wondering about that for a long time, elderly who are alone -invisible - and are struggling with higher prices on everything with limited income, so food is the one place they can cut. 😢 Grateful our senior center has lunches for them at no cost and even can deliver if some elderly are unable to drive.
Perhaps I've already mentioned this - a friend of mine works at the large county wide food bank. Even before the SNAP delay, he said many of the grocery stores like WinCo, Safeway, and Walmart donate a lot of food. Many times when I'm at WinCo early in the morning, I see a food bank van parked there.
Rainy here this morning. Need to head out and pick up a few things at Walmart - milk and eggs mostly, then have a 9:30 appointment with my insurance broker to go over my Medicare supplemental insurance.
Make it a wonderful day, ladies.

google failed me, so I thought I would ask you all this question. My husband adores playing Poker with Hoyle Card Games. As far as I can tell. Their latest version is not supported by Windows 11. We took a chance on it last year, paid $20 at our own risk, knowing it might not work on our new Windows 11 computer. Well, it worked fine until it didn’t. Now we get a message saying a driver is missing. I’m sure one of our updates made it no longer work. He just wants to play poker with fake virtual money and computer characters for opponents. He does not want to play real people with real money. I downloaded one different game from the Microsoft store, but we can’t figure out how to play it. I will continue to try to find him one, but if any of you have a game to recommend, I would appreciate it. He doesn’t ask for much, but playing this game every day was part of his routine.

Rita - I'm so glad your son sounds better on the phone now, and sorry you're not feeling well!
Heather - Sorry about your son's badly damaged leg. It sounds painful. So does your knee. Hope it gets better soon!
Tracey - Biofreeze has been available down here for quite some time. It's effectively menthol in various pain relief delivery systems, spray, patches, roll-ons, etc.
Mo - Glad your new job will be closer to home. Commute time can wear on you. Try to take time off in between this one and the new one! You need a break, woman!
Lanette - Had I started with anything other than original Medicare, I would have had to change now, as my top possible choice no longer provides that service. A couple of the majors have completely stepped out of the arena here. I'll stick with original as long as it makes sense, but I have the VA pharmacy for backup, which an awful lot of people don't.
I decided while I was out yesterday to go ahead and stick with my original thought for "No"vember and try very hard not to buy anything other than the essentials in November. Something caught my eye that said "You save 100% on what you don't buy," and it made me blink. I've always avoided things like Black Friday anyway. That many people freak me out.
In all honesty, we really need very few things. I don't really plan on putting up Christmas lights, we don't actually own any, although I did have a thought that I may or may not carry through on for my hanging baskets on the front porch. It involves fairy lights (that I already have) wound around the chains to make them look like a Christmas tree. Still mulling that one over.
And in my next post, I'll put my fridge painting. Figured after weeks of work, it deserves one of its own.
Onward and upward!
Love,
Lisa5 -
Honestly, if you don't like it, it's okay. While art is certainly part of who I am, it doesn't mean I'm personally crushed if someone doesn't like what I paint. One of the things I learned as a writer is that you're not ever going to be everyone's cup of tea! 😂👀🥰 Feel free to ask questions, I'll certainly answer if I can.
Heather - you might recognize the background… Please tell John thank you for me - the balance he used in that photo made me see… well, this.

Yesterday had a nice morning with clear crisp skies. I told husband we should make our trek to the mainland that day instead of the planned next weekend trek. So we went for lunch to a great pizzeria called District Brewery. I had pizza. They have a wood burning oven so the crust is amazing. My pizza had red bell peppers, sausage, caramelized onions and olives. They bake them in square pans and put it on black slate plates. My pizza was 4 square pieces. I ate 2 with a diet Pepsi. It settled well. Then trip to Hobby Lobby, I bought stickers, husband had to buy green pipe cleaners for a diorama/solo game he's setting up to play. I will take a photo when its lighter.🙃. Then we went to Fred Meyer, and I bought bath bubbles, rose scented sugar scrub, and we found Knorr gravy mixes that the commissary seems to not be ordering for some reason. It was a nice day.
Dinner was protein chips with cottage cheese, a protein shake and coffee. I drank 81 oz of liquids but still am retaining water from the sodium in the pizza. Today I am up a lb.🙄🙃. No worries, I know what its from.
This morning I am a sore puppy. Only two more days of exercise and I can have a three day reprieve.
Woot!
Remember ladies today is a good day for a good day!

Lisa I like how the bird flies into the sky and becomes part of the sky. Reminds me of my friend Jeannie who past this year…She painted a tree with birds on the wall that greeted you as you entered her home. It was painted over when they sold their home. I thought it gave their home charm. I do see why it was painted over because it made it too personal.

🌧️ There was a big noisy wind storm last night for about two hours. The wind scares Bessie so she moved from her bed that's against an exterior wall to a place next to where Annie and I sleep. Annie worried about Bessie so she kept getting out of bed to check on Bessie. After the storm we slept well. My walk in the morning gave me a chance to see the mess all over the park—lots of little debris and branches but no major damage. Power popped off briefly. It was interesting to see the number of women our age out sweeping and collecting branches from their yards before 8 AM. I gathered all the branches that were too big to put in my garbage can and put them in a pile at the edge of the street for the park maintenance people to pick up when they clean off the streets.
😀 The management of our park has initiated a food closet for people to bring food and people who need it to pick it up. I hope the people who need it will take advantage of it. I know a lot of people here are living on very limited incomes.
😐️ Lanette, I have cleared a lot of Jake's stuff including giving a lot of it to his kids. They have taken as much as they are going to take. The rest is up to me. What's left is small sentimental items and some books. It's hard for me to deal with so I leave them alone. Daughter likes that the furniture is the same. She says that some things remind her of her childhood. She was twelve when Jake and I got married.
😀 Carol, take your time and stay in the moment.

Heather … it was a visiting cousin that pushed me into clearing out my deceased son's bedroom. It turned my husband and son upside down. They were devastated that I removed so many things. But I asked them how they would like sleeping in someone else's shrine. There are still things in the room that remind us of him. But that overwhelming sense of walking into a memorial is gone. Hard to do.
Lanette … thanks for the 10 foods that naturally lower blood sugars.
Tracey … you've had a lot of stress these past couple of weeks. Time to baby yourself and rebuild your immune system.
Have to run (not literally … I am not a runner) but off to visit my mom.
