Food? It’s difficult for any of us to recommend food as we have no idea what you like. For me, lean protein like fish or skinless chicken breast with a tonne of tasty veg (think spicy sweet potato wedges, roasted courgettes, peppers, cauliflower and Brussel sprouts) will be tasty, filling, high protein and fibre, and not high in calories (providing I only use a little oil when roasting). But others might prefer a low calorie curry, pasta with protein, cottage or fish pie… tell us what you like and we might be able to give you some ideas.

Most simplistically, any food you enjoy eating that adds up to a reasonable number of calories given your overall calorie goal. Bonus points if it contributes to your day's overall good nutrition. Of course, practicality and affordability are also considerations.

I think you can see why we'd need more info about your preferences to give you more specific advice. There really aren't special "diet foods" or things we must never, ever eat. It's about balance, and your preferences matter.

Most people will find that the easiest calorie cuts are to eat fewer fried foods (roast, grill, bake, broil instead); reduce portions/frequency of what I'd call "filler foods" like pasta, rice, bread, etc., and add filling lower-calorie items like veggies, salads, etc. so there's still good volume on the plate. Cutting down on added butter, oil, mayo, creamy dressings and that sort of thing can also cut meaningful calories. (There are lower calorie dressings and such.) Similarly and rather obviously, if drinking large amounts of sugary drinks, eating lots of sweet baked goods or candy, then reducing portions or frequency of those can reduce calorie intake.

Most people find filling foods easier to stick with because of appetite, so mostly things like lean meat, fish/seafood, veggies, fruits, whole grains, lower fat dairy foods. (It's OK to have some treats that you can moderate, just smaller portions.)

Beyond that, to get ideas, you can find some threads in the Recipes or Food and Nutrition section of this Community where people share what they eat. Here are examples:

Here on this site, the MFP Blog also has lots of ideas and recipes:

Other options are to search the web or on Pinterest for low-calorie recipes, or lighter recipes.

    Best wishes!
