Just a lil epiphany :)

Hi all-
So here's something that kind of hit me the other day driving home from work. I kept asking myself, why is it so hard to control my eating? Exercise has never been a problem for me, but diet- always. I know exactly what I should do to lose the weight I want, but something in me won't do it. Then I realzied: I'm not thinking like the healthy person I want to be. In my mind's eye I see this compusive eater that is unhappy, that eats a snack she doesn't need and then immediatly feels guilty. No wonder it's so hard to eat right.
I think this is why hypnosis has proven to be so effective for weight loss. If we're thinking like an overweight person, then we will continue to be overweight. If we think like a healthy, fit person not obsessed with food, then we will become one. So, since I'm not able to hypnotize myself, I'm trying to slowly convince myself that I AM that healthy person. I pretend that when I woke up this morning, the scale said exactly what I've always wanted it to say, that yesterday I ate perfect ballanced meals, and that today is just another day where this healthy person continues to be healthy.
It's been working for the past couple days, maybe soon I won't have to pretend :)

I'm pretty much the same way and I'm also working really hard at trying to convince myself that I don't need to be so obsessed with food. It's been tough but I've been successful a few times when I wanted something unhealthy to talk myself out of it.
  • Thats awesome! Get rid of that stinkin thinkin!!

    haha i like that!
  • Something that's helped me in the past with other areas, and duh - I need to apply it here, too - is to use affirmations everywhere I look regularly. I've printed them and posted them on the walls of my home, bathroom mirrors, fridge, dash, in my purse/wallet, at my desk at work. EVERYWHERE. They were an AMAZING motivational tool as I prepared for my natural, unmedicated birth (which was successful!). The key with using affirmations is to word them in only positive wording - words like no, can't, won't, don't, not, etc have no place in an affirmation.

I also printed them up on computer paper or cardstock with pretty, colorful ink, pretty fonts, and backed some with colorful cardstock. Make them so you WANT to look at them and eye-catching so it's hard to resist looking :)

We have been so trained by advertising that we are not worthy - BUT WE ARE if we think we ARE ! Great epiphany!
  • That's some freaky psychic stuff you've got going there. I like it.

Great idea about posting the affirmations! What little quotes do you guys use to inspire you?
Some things that run through my head:

    "Surprise yourself"
"If you want to be something you've never been, you have to do things you've never done"
  • Whenever I'm working out and it's tough, I put myself in some sort of fictional scenario where I'm a warrior or something. It helps.

This doesn't work for dieting so much. :|

lol- yeah, i guess I shouldn't eat like a warrior hahaha. buuut I totally agree- if you feel really triumphant while you're working out- or think of accomplishing some huge momentous race, it totally works :)
