Sorry Falisha don't know much about HRM...going to ask santa to buy one for me for xmas. :) I will take the advice on here also to write down for santa's list.

Thanks for the updated chart. Have fun on your trip. I have been MIA for a few days and just catching up now.

Great job losers. Keep fighting everyone.

HRMs - Polar is usually one of the best in terms of accuracy, calorie counting etc. I don't know anything specifically about the A5 (no longer on the website so I think it is a pretty old model?) I used to have an F6 (obsolete, now I think the current equals would be FT models) - they allow you to program your gender, height/weight, max and resting HR. Then, your calorie counting is pretty accurate. Note that it only counts calories when you are logging an "activity". If you want all-day monitoring, I think a BodyBugg-type would be better suited.

Because I run a lot, I upgraded to the RS300 about 2 yrs ago - this has lots of extra features that I love but really not necessary for general fitness.

Biggest thing is to make sure that the chest strap battery is good. The A5 model is obsolete too - check to see what chest straps it is compatible with. New straps can run $40 and up... my original strap lasted ~ 18 months, then I upgraded to the strap that has user-replaceable batteries.

I have used the Polar one before and it's really good the only problem is that when the battery dies you have to mail the watch out ot get the battery replaced, can't just go to a watch store and get one. Right now I use the New Balance one for women- bought it at Target. Has a black band and a white watch. The watch is a little smaller and more feminine looking, I have been very pleased with it. Hope this helps!

Bumping this for reporting in tomorrow - I will be checking in early as I'm going to spend the weekend with my family - out for an early birthday dinner on Saturday and I WON'T be counting calories then and I WILL be having dessert :)
But that's OK, this week is looking good, I've made a real effort to avoid processed/added sugars this week and boy has the scale moved down! Official weigh in will be tomorrow, I just hope it looks as good as today.... I'm 0.1 kg away from my goal weight!

I have also looked into a Polar FT7 which seems like a good one, the only thing I worry about is how much I sweat that it will break while I am running & sweating.

Falisha, sweat is a good thing - you have to wet most of the straps in order to get good contact. With a fabric-type strap you need to run under a bit of water. For the hard plastic version you can dab a little water/spit on your fingers and rub on the contacts. No moisture = no HR reading.

You can just rinse the strap when you are done, else the salt in your sweat will build up over time & get a bit yucky.

edit: Straps are completely submersible/waterproof too - you can swim in them but sometimes I hear the HR transmission can be a bit tricky depending on the pool chemicals used.
