Overnight shift.

I work at Mcdonalds overnight 2-3 days a week. I really don't want to resort to eating Mcdonalds and when I am awake the whole night, I know I will get hungry. My shift it 11pm-5am. Should I sleep before I start working and then take a healthy dinner to work to eat on my break? I usually have breakfast lunch and dinner and the same time everyday , is it ok to change my meal times whenever I work?

I know of some people who work at hotels and lose weight while working.....
working at McDonald's while trying to lose weight is like an alcoholic working in a bar.0 -
haha well I would have taken any other job if they were out there, but there is not much out there at the moment. I had applied for many job before I resorted to Mcdonalds.. it's only money for me . I usually don't eat Mcdonalds while I work though.0

i work nights every 3 weeks, i go to sleep about 11am and wake up, work out, eat and pack my lunch....i would refrain from eating mcdonals overnight (or anytime for that matter), pack a bunch of healthy food...i eat at least 3 times during the night and i actually lose the most over my midnight shifts0

I think it is fine to change your eating times..I would really try not to eat McDonalds (especially the fries) Bring a healthy lunch or dinner and you will thank youself in the end. Good Luck0

yeah, i never eat fries , way too much fat. Should I sleep instead of eating dinner and then eat dinner at work ( a healthy one) I would sleep during the day, but I study till 4pm and going to have a workout after.0

hard times in the economy, i didn't exactly wish to work there, and I asked for advice to make the best of my situation. I'd like to think I have self control.0 -
McDonalds has some decent alternatives to the burger and fries. Their saads are okay.
You could probably eat a plain burger w/ 1/2 the bun. Since you work there, can somene make something custom for you?

thanks for that, as yes, I should be able to change things0

I mean if you take a close look at the nutritional menu, some of the burgers aren't that bad calorie-wise.
The salt intake is going to be high but at this point, you're trying to make the least worst choice. The salads would be the obvious choice but you probably won't eat that all the time0 -
haha yeah, I actually can't stand salads unless they have heaps of ingredients in them and not a whole lot of lettuce0

Man, I think you're going to have to make yourself like salads in some way. I was eating burgers and fries for lunch everyday. And I turned to either subway sandwiches or homemade salads. I usually cut up an apple or pear to make them edible.0

Getting started is the worst part....
Ok, McDonalds has PLENTY of food items which are perfectly healthy and compatible with weight loss. Ok, so you have to ditch the bread usually....no FRIES....
After 3-4 weeks.....it will be habit and you probably won't want the burgers anymore, or the freshly cooked fries, or those yummy hot apple pies. I skipped birthday cake twice this week...chocolate too. Didn't think much about it.
It will be habit, but you have to power through those first days...and get people around you to help.0 -
yeah, i told my boyfriend to say no to me when I want anything fatty or sugary, no matter how much I try to justify it :P Having someone to just say no is really good.
And yeah I may just skip Mcdonalds all together and bring sandwiches, if I'm desperate I will take that advice about looking at the nutrition closely. Thanks heaps!0 -
I do 3 night shifts per week. I'm a nurse. Yes, definitely change your mealtimes to coincide with your new schedule. It makes total sense. I lose weight during my night shifts too.0

So a permanent change you think?0
-
No, just switch over on your night shifts.0

oh great thanks for that.0

When I get home, I go to bed at about 9am. I sleep through the typical lunchtime, so I usually make up those calories somewhere else or I don't. Depends on how I feel.0
