a mini success for my dad :)

My dad has been over weight since I was a kid. He had diabetes for about 10 years before he was diagnosed. He is on tons of less that make losing weight hard and make having a food addiction even harder. He's over weight but he works out. He doesn't push himself to the max like you're supposed to though so that's why he never really loses the weight.
Anyways, a few months back he reached a point where he just didn't care anymore. He was willing to eat himself to death. My sisters and I were so distraught. I have kids and my older sis has kids so we told my dad he had to show us that he loved us and our kids by living.
About a month and a half ago I found out my dad was researching the kaiser permanente weight management program. I definitely supported him and even tried doing replacement shakes for a couple weeks to suffer with him.
Well he officially started two mondays ago and as of yesterday he has lost 23lbs! This is all through the shakes, bars and soups. He consumes 1280 calories a day and in 2 weeks has list 23 lbs! I couldn't be more proud! Food addiction is a very real thing and my dad has somehow stuck to This program with very few mishaps.
He started at 331 lbs. Before we know it, he will be 299! He hasn't been below that in over 6 years. And he hasn't been below 299 since the early 90's.
Okay. Thanks for reading this. I'm just so happy for him.

Lots of love and support from his kids and grandkids should help him a lot. He still has to get on a normal diet but this will at least jump start him. I have been buying Diabetic magazines at the grocery store. They have a lot of easy ideas with pictures to follow so that managing the dibetes/diet part of the work is easier. Losing part of the weight may help him kick up his workouts too. Now if I can just get my husband on the bandwagon I be happier. Good luck.0

That's wonderful. I wish I could my dad to do something like this, but his laundry list of things he can't do exceeds my patience for trying to make him see what he's done for himself. He has knee problems, so he can't walk, do the elliptical, etc etc blah blah blah. I tried to tell him that if he can just do a little bit each day, nothing crazy, but a little bit and work towards increasing it would help with his knees cuz he has way to much weight bearing down on them. But it's like talking to a wall. I can't even get him to walk to the end of the driveway and back with me.
I'm so glad you could make your dad see that it can be done. Not only is this a success story for him, but for you too Tell him we're proud of him!!0 -

Congrats to your dad!!! I started the journey toward surgery about 3 yrs ago, and the doctors told me I need to lose about 30lbs before I had the surgery. I thought to myself if I need to lose lbs before surgery then whey cant I just lose all the lbs without surgery so I stopped the process and didnt have bypass surgery. Three yrs later I decided again that I wanted to have bypass but this time I said to myself...Ok if you are really going through this give it one more try to lose on your own.. 24 lbs in 6 weeks and counting!! I think this was my last time of trying to do the easy thing...0
